No you can't, update will fail. Sorry. You have to flash a newer ROM like you flashed the first one and you will lose everything not backed up.
My focus 1.4 is stuck on step 6 (reboot) of the updating process.
I don't even get the 801812C1 error. It's just stuck waiting.
I can't even set it in pc connection mode using the camera button and try to use the microsoft fix it patch. I can only remove the battery and than the phone restarts. I'm out of ideas
I'm curious, was your Focus 'Walshed' before?

So, if you had used the ChevronWP7.Updater to update to NoDo (7.0.7390), then you will not be able to update any future releases without "unWalshing". See this thread from Chris Walsh's blog about getting your focus back on track.
I had performed thees steps on the blog and having issue with my Focus. Now I'm wondering if my unWalshing didn't perform properly.

no problemo, let me know if you have any questions or issues, that being said, it's a pretty comprehensive and fairly well done write up.
Hi,
I have a "Walshed" Focus to get to 7390. Since then, I have been unsuccessful in "UnWalshing". When trying to update to 7392, I get stuck in reboot at step 6.
So I decided to try the Mango upgrade from 7390 - to which I've read that some have been successful going from 7390 (not necessarily from a Walshed device) to Mango.
Well, my phone gets stuck at reboot and when I run the ISV_Provisioning_live.exe following the Mango upgrade steps, I get an timeout error.
So at this point, I'm stuck at 7390 and thinking that I need to reflash my phone to 7004 and build up from there. However, I can't seem to find instructions for flashing a Samsung device. In the WP7 development forum, I only see instructions for flashing HTC devices.
Can someone point me to:
1. Instructions for flashing Samsung, Focus if it's device specifc.
2. Where can I get a Samsung 7004 ROM?
Thanks.

Read my posts here (location of Roms and checklist) and here for the instructions on flashing.
Just wait for the real deal coming Wednesday if you are an AT&T customer.

Hi,
I'm not sure if you were replying to my post above but I have version 1.4 and "Walshed" (forced the NoDo update back in April). At any rate, my understanding is that an official AT&T Mango for v1.4 will not be available in October. I suppose I can wait for it but given that I had "Walshed" my phone and my attempt to unWalsh is not successfully, I fear that an office update will not work.
As an anecodatel point, I did receive an update to 7392. However, the many attempts I have tried, I got stuck at step 6 when the phone is supposed to reboot but never does. Others have had the same problem with v1.4 and with a Walshed phone. So, I don't have high hopes that an officie Mango would even work. But I hope I am wrong...
Just install Zune and disconnect your internet about a second after it checks for an update. Got mine to mango.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Will that get the AT&T update or the default Microsoft one?

+1 buddy , the force mango isnt happening for me , i tried a lot of times. rev 1.4 here. i cant seem to find any other solution
I received, I assume, what is a pre-mango update. 7.0 (7392)...anyone else get it? I assume the full Mango is days away?
Yeah, I hooked up my phone to my PC, and received 7392 (hoping it was Mango). It wouldn't find any more updates, so I just forced the Mango update via this method: http://www.wpcentral.com/force-mango-update-early-through-zune-software
FYI, I have the Verizon Trophy...

Awesome...trying that now!
Yep, worked for me too on unbranded trophy. But no differences from the leaked ROM that I flashed a couple of weeks ago.
Worked for me as well. Dont you know, if I did this hack (plug out internet connection during searching update) will I get an official HTC tested Mango? So it will be final Mango with optimized drivers?

It worked for me but I ended up having to do a hard reset to get my data up and running - bummer.
FYI:
7392 is NoDo, Mango is 7720.
If some of you are JUST NOW getting 7392, that's really odd.

Maybe i should of told you guys before: it takes a very long time ..... i think more than 1 hour and a half. You just have to let it do whatever is doing. My update worked like a charm and i didn't lose anything.

My update worked fine, and I didn't lose anything either. My update took less than 30 minutes, but then again, I have fast internet, which probably pulled the update faster than you did.
