[Q] How to remove the dock for ADW EX?? - Acer Iconia A500

Hi,
I am using ADW Ex for my Iconia.
But it default have a bar at the bottom which I guess is the dock.
May I know how to remove the dock. I don't need any dock from ADW. I prefer the original honeycomb looks...

go to adw settings then click UI settings and go the Hidden Dock bar and uncheck(use as primary and dock bar) then go back under UI settings and click Main dock click dock style and select none.... that should do it

Yes, it works...
thanks for the information...

so adw ex updated and now i cannot remove the bottom dock bar as well. Anyone else having this issue?

Yea.....at a quick glance on the update version the only way I see to hide the dock is
under settings/general behavior/Gestures/Swipe up or Swipe down actions........choose open/close Dockbar
that will hide or show it with a swipe of the finger

Thanks for the heads up, I saw that tweet from adw yesterday and it works, but it looks like they are aware and tryng to fix that.

Guess I am the only one here who likes the dock?
Even with the dock ADW still gives you more usable space than the stock Launcher does. plus I can re size any widget I want.

Love the dock! I really like ADW EX on my tablet, but don't care for it much on my kids' two NookColors. Ever since the latest update, the dock will not rotate down to the bottom of the Nook screen in horizontal mode. Works fine on my A500 and the old version even worksfine on the Nooks. The dev borked it in the latest version.

You can remove the dock with ADW. But you have to add a shortcut to open the app drawer.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.vtlab.launcher&feature=search_result is a honeycomb optimized launcher I believe. check that out. ive never used it though

Pretty sure it is only optimized for Gingerbread on larger screens. I tried this one about a month ago and was really disappointed.

Aww that sucks. I just remember reading a article about it but never really looked into it. Looking forward to it's release. bummer
You can get rid of screens using ADW just select edit and select the screens you do not need. You can also hide the dock but add a short cut for the app panel on the desktop.
Hi Everyone
Ok thanks for your advise, I have loaded ADW and successfully configured it nicely, however I removed my old system launcher, and put this ADW launcher in the system app section. Now everytime I boot, the thing reinstalls wiping my settings....
Does anyone have experience if you make ADW a ststem app, why does it reinstall each time you restart (wiping all user settings) and is there a way aroun d it? an odex file maybe?
why do you want it to run as a system app?
because its better than stock app...do remove stock app to replace with this makes life easy and bloat free...Also if someone with no understanding of programming deletes this app (wife or Kids or my parents) then I have to do a CWM recovery----I dont want to do that....
Set ADW as your default launcher and use an autorun manager to stop the stock launcher from running at boot-up. Problem solved.

Yes it can.
Cool ...i run into my market !
Liking it...mostly.
Adds a new dimension to wallpaper wonkiness, unfortunately.
My wallpaper (via wizardrii) is not properly centered in landscape mode. Have not fiddled with it yet.
Anyone have any tips?
I will definitely be purchasing this for my girlfriend's 10.1.. thanks for the tip, it looks great!
Am loving it just make sure if your rubbish bin bar is located at the bottom you enable auto scaling of desktop when bin bar is used, otherwise you won't be able to add icons to the docking bar !

Mine works well for an hour or so, then takes an age for an app to return to the launcher. Only way to fix is to reboot the tab. Anyone else seen this?
Is there a light or trial version that I can try for free? I can't find one in the market.

Wallpapers aren't rendered properly, and my dock bar just disappeared on mine. Still has a ways to go on tablets.
Dock bar going away is a common "problem" with ADW. Turn off hidden dockbar in the settings, turn off gestures.
I went ahead and set mine up without a dockbar, and with just the ADW settings menu item in the top right. Removed the trash bin as well (long-press then Remove from the desktop works just fine).
"Endless" page scrolling, page-turn animation of Tilt, 350 turn speed, 15 desktop bounce, and a theme that has a transparent top menu bar. Desktop has 9x7 columns/rows, icons scaled to 95%, density hack off. App drawer is 6x6, in 4D vertical scroll.
Basically, it looks pretty much like Honeycomb at a glance, but without the one-inch "tap space" wasted on the left and right screen edges. It's much faster and smoother. About the only performance issue I've had is that it doesn't handle "card" widgets like YouTube, Market or News360 as smoothly as stock, when you go to "fling" a card away.
Maybe I'm just getting old and simple, but I don't really see the point of having the excessive customization of ADW on a Honeycomb tab. I have my homescreen setup with two widgets and about 12 regular icons, then the next screen over has some lesser used stuff. If I need any other apps I just open the app drawer and easily locate them. I mean, it's neat to make things whiz-bang and all, but from a usability perspective there's already so much overkill built in to Honeycomb that ADW doesn't seem worth the time.
On my phone, ADW is great, however. Now get off my lawn.

You don't have to use the power of ADW, it's just there waiting to be harnessed if you want it.
In fact, you can use ADW to simplify it, for example you can delete unused home screens, unlike stock Honeycomb. Doing things like adding widgets or changing wallpapers is also cleaner and quicker than the flashy Honeycomb interface. It's simpler.
I'm a card carrying member of the Curmudgeon's Club of Canada, by the way.

So... You are saying that you need adw
I like simple too, and adw help me doing that.
I mean, I do not need the 3d cubic scrolling effects, neither than the futuristic widget selection screen, or the quick search bar at the top.
I didn't choose to display the dock too in adw.
And it is so fast, close to the ipad smoothness.

It is not a problem but a feature hehe. If you slide one the dock, it disappear. I you slide again it appears. I think you can disable somewhere that movement.
ADW still sucks on the Tab..not only are the card/live widgets like Youtube slow to flick like someone said, but the worst thing is that for certain widget, like the Digital Clock stock Tab one...it looks fine when using the Tab landscape at first, then every single time I rotate to portrait view, the widget re-draws for new orientation and both left and right sides of the widget are not cut off. This does not adjust/fix itself instantly like stock launcher does and the only way to really fix it is to re-add widget or sometimes turn screen off and on.
I like the smoothness of the launcher/drawer but I aint dealing with this **** where a widget gets screwed up every single time....too annoying to deal with. Why is this such a hard thing to get right?? Is there a fix for this or no? I am not resizing the widget to begin with btw...just adding it as normal size. The homescreen size I use is 8 columns and 7 rows btw, just like stock.
Oh and why in the app drawer, the the top still unmatching/not dimmed like the rest of the drawer below it? Looks so stupid. They should dim it too and still keep the buttons in the top right corner, ughh.
EDIT: Here, compare landscape to portrait when flipped. Not only does that Digital Clock widget get cut off, but also look at the Wireless Widget..it looks ridiculous now.
EDIT2: I unchecked the ADW option for resizing widgets to fit blah blah but the same thing still happens where the Clock widget, for example, gets cut off after going vertical.. although the Wifi Widget looks a little less ridiculous now when turning. Anyone know about the widget issue though??

The 15 minute refund policy really sucks, especially for apps like ADW EX where you really need some time to get a feel for how you like it and check out all the customizations. To get around it you can always buy it, pull the apk from /data/apps (requires root), refund it, and re-install the program using the pulled apk file. This way you can take your time to play around with the app before deciding if you want to keep it. If you do go ahead and re-buy it from market. If you decide not to buy it do the honest thing and uninstall the program.

A MUST HAVE APP FOR THE NOTE (big screen devices)

Hello Status Bar.
Use a button to pull down the notification bar !!
Very handy with this BIG ASS screen.
Put it everywhere you want .....

Nice sharing but its not necessary to ''touch'' notification bar to pull it down.
If you ''touch'' anywhere in screen and scroll a little bit down, notification bar will be appear..

Another option is Go Launcher Ex.
It enables you to configure gestures for the dock icons.
One of these options is to bring down the notification bar.
Just putting it out here in case peopel wanna know...

Some other launchers such as Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher Ex and Go Launcher Ex to mention a few let you set gestures for various things such as the notification bar. So no, the stock launcher isn't the only launcher for this gesture
I prefer setting ADW's swipe down on homescreen gesture for opening Notification tray myself...
I have used gestures since... forever?
I have no idea why this isnt added to the assorted skins or even vanilla Android. It makes so much sense.
I have my gestures setup so that swipe up = open app drawer, swipe down = open notification bar.
Another advantage of this is it means not having to have an app drawer icon on your dock, leaving more room for quick access icons.
Speaking of dock... another pro tip for GO Launcher EX users. Long press on an icon in the dock and hit 'gesture'. Voila - your dock icon can now perform another action by swiping up on the icon instead of just tapping it. Your 5 bar dock is now 10 actions.
I love GO Launcher.
yes, go launcher ex , use its swipe for notification. But it has alot of good functions too
Just another unneeded app running in the background? No thank you

I installed GO Launcher EX on Christmas on my EVO & it is so much faster & cooler now that I think I can wait to see the SGNote hardware in a US store as long as it's Q1 2012 (as EVO's video camera still sucks & Note does obviously have cooler abilities but would ideally like to try it in my hand first). No fan of TouchWiz here & would likely be using GO Launcher EX on Note.

Play Store launchers ?

I'm on the new Joying 2GB RAM, Intel unit, 8 inch double din. Sometimes I find the Joying default launcher boring. I wish I could get the KLD Launcher to work on it, but I'm not sure how. So I tried a few from the Play Store.
I used Nova, but it keeps the Dock on the right hand side, instead of putting it at the bottom. Even if you try to force Landscape it keeps it on the right hand side.
I tried a bunch, but I think I found my favorite:

How did you get the app drawer icon on the bottom like that?
put your finger on the app drawer's icon (which appears often on the dock (right side) )you keep your finger on it, and slide it to the bottom of the desk .

I figured it out. Leave the dock on, just get rid of the platform, then you can pull it out. If you turn the Dock off entirely the App icon disappeared
Now I need a good clock and weather widget, basically just trying to recreate the KLD launcher

You can create a 'shortcut' or widget to any of the Nova actions (Including open app drawer) on the homescreen.
You can disable the dock, and create an app drawer icon to go anywhere.
Personally, I don't use the app drawer icon. I change Nova's button behavior so that when I press home it opens the app drawer. Look in the settings in Nova. TONS of ways to customize this to your use.
I cant seem to get Widgets to work on any of these launchers. Let me correct that, I can't get a large widget to work, like the clock or whatever. If I put a shortcut, like a playlist in Google Play Music, it works fine. If I try to put on something simple like the Clock widget, it just says no more room on the screen
I have a problem when using nova launcher.
Everytime I set it up and arrange everything the way I like it. After I restart my unit I end up with blank screen tiles (no apps, app drawer, nothing). Which almost had me stuck there since there is no way to access the settings to uninstall nova launcher. But I figured out how to open the GPS with the hardware buttons. That lets me get to the downloaded apps, after I uninstall nova launcher the problem is gone.
Not sure why this happens. But I would like to change the launcher because the stock launcher is kind of boring.
Has anyone tried this Car Launcher Pro? It is made for these units, and has trial version too. I think I'm going with that when I receive my new unit.
Sorry, can't post link here yet.

Launcher frustration!

Just got my PH-1 and I usually use Nova, but no matter what grid combo I select I have this gab between the last row of icons and the dock and I cannot add any icons there??? its about 12mm wide, I even tried evie launcher, same thing, it wont let me add icons above the dock. any ideas/solution, hate this blank space between app icons and dock on Homescreen.

I'm running Nova and I don't have that issue.
You might need to tweak the settings but I came from a LG G6 and my settings just worked.
hi, in settings what have you got your display settings as? default with default font? are you in immersive with nav bar dropping away after a few seconds or is it static? thanks
Fixed: some conflict (I guess) between settings in Nova/Evia and immersive and resized Navbar. so I just went back to stock settings and restored a nova backup and all is well.
