Dagi P504 / Wacom Bamboo Stylus - Acer Iconia A500

There are threads about this in order forums, but I could not find one specifically for the a500. So I wanted to share with everyone.
I recently purchased the dagi p504 from amazon, and promptly returned it. The plastic circle tip was not smooth and flat, the spring held the plastic tip on slightly crooked, and the metal that was inserted into the plastic circle at the tip was done so in a way that seemed like they had to melt the plastic and then resolidify it. The casing seemed ok, but just about as good or bad as any other styli I have used. I do not know if I had a defective one, but i can't find out with returning it and rebuying it (no exchange offered when I emailed them). So I went into best buy and bought the Bamboo stylus.
I recommend against it. Im not going to go into a bunch of tech info about who what when where why or how, but will just give you my impression of it.
I like the build quality. Thick enough and enough of a texture on the paint job and metal casing to make it feel comfortable. Probably one of the best build qualities I have felt in a stylus. However, one of the stylus's selling points if that the tip is 6mm, vs "Competition's 8mm", but the casing made it feel more like a high quality marker than a pen which made it feel bigger all over than competitors.
The main issue, though, is the tip. I have used a few different stylus options and the 'spongy' tips always were a bit of a pain. I could deal with a big slightly inaccurate tip if the tip only held somewhat firm. The Bamboo stylus is rather spongy, and you have to put pressure to push in the spongy tip before it will respond with any real effect. Meaning you can't simply touch the stylus to the tablet and move it around without having to actually drag the tip around, meaning this detracts from the smoothness and ability to transition directions. It also causes me great concern in the it seems like the tip will rip or tear very easily, meaning the 30 dollar stylus becomes nothing more than a 30.00 metal casing.
The whole point of a stylus is that it will be more accurate and responsive than a finger. At least thats my whole point. I want to be able to draw in the sketchbook pro application and need to do rather details things. However, my finger is significantly more beneficial to this task than the bamboo stylus or the dagi stylus.
and I really wanted to love this stylus. I used the bamboo pen and touch tablet for many things, and I wanted this to be its tablet accessory.
I have an AYL Stylus coming for my wife here in a week, and going to test it out and see if it will work for me too and maybe get myself one.
Im still on the quest for a decent stylus.
I just wanted to share my experience with the stylus devices so that others can be informed a little more.

I tried the Pogo Sketch, hated it. The tip felt cheap, spongy, and didn´t take long to start falling; the body s too thin (to my hands, anyway).
Then I bought a Griffin Stylus, it´s heavier than Pogo, but it feels right. They use a rubber tip, and it´s way a better product.
But I´m still hoping for a fine tip stylus, like the Bamboo pen.

The AYL is supposed to be fine tipped like the bamboo (although bamboo is smaller I believe), and the AYL has the same reviews as being spongy.
I dont mind a big tip, but I dont like it caving in just to put enough pressure on the screen to write, like the bamboo did.
I used to use a boxwave and it was ok, and had two of them, until my kids ripped the tips off both of tthem.

I also owns the DAGI P504 & P601 ... they works OK... not great but OK... maybe due to the fact that I have the Skinomi protector on... ( those scratch proof protector that takes water application....rubbery feels...etc
I also have this on pre-order and it's on its way... seem to be the same concept but less stress on the tip because it's ballpoint instead of spring
http://www.adonit.net/
They are also looking into sending out a different tip that works for those of us that have the rubbery protector ( Skinomi, Zagg, StealthGuard...etc )
get yourself a pre-order

Looks like what I want in a stylus. Really just more about the precision than anything else, and this looks good. Just wish it wasnt 'preorder' lol.

Could check out the Ostylus www.ostylus.com I don't have any personal experience with it, but have been tempted to order it. It *looks* fairly precise, and appears to have the line appear in the center circle which is very nice. But not 100% of the time it seems with the review. Definitely more expensive than most as well, but may be worth it.
Here's a review from Engadget on it.
http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/01/ostylus-capacitive-pen-review/

Just picked up the Wacom Bamboo stylus today for my A500. Not disappointed, but not as happy as I planned on being. Everything the OP stated is true regarding the amount of pressure needed for it to register on the screen.
Also, with no palm recognition on the tablet, it makes stylus writing/drawing rather useless.
I'm still going to keep it just in case. For .pdf annotations and signatures. Got it half off anyway.

So here is an update. The AYL stylus came last week, I believe. I wanted to give the wife and myself time to test it out before commenting on it.
The tip seems smaller than the bamboo, but I dont have the bamboo anymore so cannot do a side by side comparison, and the AYL doesnt exactly give specific steps. I could whip out a ruler....if I had one.
Overall though, it seems to be one of the finest tipped and bodies styli that I have used.
The drawback is that it still requires pressure to make it responsive. I know most people might be thinking "Of course it does", but I have used styli that were responsive just from the touch on the screen. The AYL, just like the bamboo, seems to have the tip formed in such a way that it not only required a little more push to be sensitive, but the tip seems to be more willing to cave in. I am thinking it may just be because they are smaller tips that most other styli and therefore it is more of a significant impact to using them to feel them cave in then other stylus.
My wife has used every other styli with me, bamboo and dagi, and she had the same opinion of them I did. However, the AYL seems to have grabbed her liking. She has been using it quite a bit for drawing and a variety of other things. Even my kids (2 1/2 and 1 1/2) seem to enjoy it. Mainly my older son. Havent quite caught my younger boy messing around with it yet lol.
Overall build quality is about average, tip is probably one of the better ones.

Zagg Invisible Shield Review

Well, I among many other moaned and complained there was not Treo Pro forum so I am now celebrating this with legitimate contributions.
Well, anyway I went ahead and as always bought myself a Zagg Invisible Shield for my Treo Pro which arrived late last week. It was a few more pieces than I am used too as my iPod only required two pieces (front and back). This unit actually comes with a screen protector, a back piece, a piece for the palm logo, a piece for both the calendar as well as mail buttons, a strip for both the left side and right side and finally a small piece to go in between the power button and the silencer switch.
So as you may have noticed from the above it is a bit more complicated then an average screen protector. However I will not use a device that I spent $500 on without serious protection so I went head first into the install.
As always after carefully and tirelessly installing the device I continue my love hate relationship with the invisible shield. They are phenomenal in the sense that the parts that install correctly are truly invisible and provide amazing and tough protection for your device.
However my only dislike with the product stems from the fact that literally I spent 30 minutes installing the shield and it still is far from perfect. The toughest air bubbles never go away, some pieces will apply and do not seal on the device perfectly and there simply is no way to get it stick perfectly. Also my biggest gripe stems from the fact that the back piece has the palm logo cut out from it, which makes sense until you realize sliding the phone in and out of your pocket can drag on that making it less and less of a tight seal. On top of that a gripe with all invisible shields is that dust, and lint from your pocket inevitably sticks to every crevasse of the device.
Well long story short it may be hard to tell but I actually really like the shield. It serves its purpose nicely and as a hole it lets the device still be beautiful and shiny (even more so believe it or not) and because of the material does not attract fingerprints at all. Which as many may agree is worth the price of admission alone!
Well if anyone has any invisible shield questions feel free to ask, also I have an extra 20% coupon to go around for anyone who may be interested in picking one up. First come first serve however!
I also just installed the Invisible Shield on my Pro. I had the same struggles (I love how they say to put the piece in place and slide it around to get it to fit - once its in place you cant move it!). In fact, I haven't put on the small pieces for the edge because I thought they would be the hardest. I was able to get the back piece on without a bubble and got all the corners to stick down! It looks great.
Like you, I have a love/hate relationship with Zagg's or their competitor's shields. But they are the best protection for your device possible. I have dropped other devices on bare concrete without even leaving a mark on the shield. I was extremely careful with my Pro before getting the shield on.
My only worry is the screen protector fits nicely inside the lip around the edge of the case, but doesn't overlap it any. If something hits that edge just right, it may mark up the Treo. Oh well, nothing's perfect and I couldn't leave my Pro unprotected any longer.
One thumb up for Invisible Shields.
Love it
Just installed on my TP as well as my wife's Curve. The larger pieces were great, all went on without a hitch. I chose not to install the smaller side pieces, at least for now.
To look at the TP sitting on the table, you'd never know there was a protective coating at all. It's absolutely invisible.
I was surprised to find that the stuff is much more rubbery feeling than I expected. It just feels softer, somehow, than I had expected after looking at the Zagg website.
I just installed the zaggs on my treo this weekend and three really nice things that I have to point out first is the rubbery feel as stated in an earlier post, I don't feel like the phone is gonna slip out of my hands. 2nd is i have about 90 percent less finger prints on my phone now. The 3rd thing is my opinion and it's that I feel the touchscreen is so much more responsive. I would like to see if any one feels the same thing that I stated in the latter.
Last weekend I applied the shield to my TP and I am very impressed. There are two small points where the shield didn't stick properly (on the corners on the back, I probably didn't align things precise enough), but apart from that you hardly see it. I also like the "rubbery" feel of it. Gives the TP a nice grip.
Just a tip for people who are going to install the invisible shield: make sure to apply plenty of spray on the sticky side of the shield. I found out that then you get no air bubbles and you are able to slide it like advertised. After half a minute or so the shield will start to stick and dry beautifully.
Can someone post Pictures of their Treo's with the Shield installed?
Agree - it's good
Everyone - like others have said, I applied the invisible shield to my TP last evening and it looks great and I love the fact it doesn't feel like it is going to slip out of my hands when I handle it. I just applied the back and front pieces - didn't bother with the side pieces. Would definitely recommend it to others and as one blogger said - plenty of spray works the best.
seeing some pics on the raphael thread, it kinda makes the raphael look a bit 'plasticky' and cheap.
do you guys think this is so, or is it 'invisible'...

If you get it put on correctly, then it truly is almost 'invisible'. I used lots of solution and pateince and am happy with the result. i would say it perhaps has a 'plasticky' feel (which i like - no longer feel like it's going to slip out of my hands every time i use it), but doesn't look that way.
does it decrease touch screens sensitivity compared to factory given screens? And would it cause it hard to write with a stylus? like sticky?
Get PhantomSkinz instead of Invisible Shield. Protects better and isn't sticky on the outside like the Invisible Shield.
I've gotten a zagg for my past 3 devices (HTC Touch, Samsung Ace, Treo 755)
I've never had a sticky problem. I've been quite happy with them, so I just bought one this morning for my Treo Pro... I'll let you know if i get a sticky one.
IS are having a tax day sale. use code "TAXRELIEF" on checkout & get 30% off. valid till 21/4/09.
tbh, still think they are expensive...
Update
Just browsing through and forgot I even opened this thread. I have to give my update as things stand now.
I would say after heavy usage the invisible shield holds up great. The parts that get beat up the most and will accumulate dust in the corners. The part that covers the screen has held up perfectly and looks just as good as I put it on day one. I feel it is way more responsive and it doesn't pick up finger prints.
I just put mine on this weekend and it went very smoothly and looks great. It certainly isn't sticky on the outside... I think the poster with that problem might have put it on backwards.
I really appreciate the added grip, as the treopro without skin was so slippery I nearly dropped the phone quite a few times.

Hmmm. Added grip but it's not sticky.
well sticky and added grip are different.. and in this case the grip is a feature.
I gave IS a try and I can't say I was too thrilled about it. It has it's pros and cons which i'll list below.
Pros:
1. The material provides a nice grip, the phone feels secure in your hands.
2. IF you get every piece put on perfect it's somewhat invisible.
3. The material does provide the best protection against scratches.
4. If you have a touch screen phone it works great with the stylus....only.
Cons:
1. The material does have an orange peel look to it when the light hits it, not a huge deal.
2. If you don't get every piece (8 for the treo pro) put on perfect it can be noticeable and not all that great to look at.
3. Lint sticks to ALL of the edges of each piece you install.. all 8 pieces. The "Invisible" shield isn't so invisible anymore.
4. I'd rate IS a 1/10 when it comes to finger friendly on the screen. once you press hard enough with your finger or your finger nail to drag an item your finger will stutter, and not move smoothly. The OS will now think your clicking on several parts of the screen and it can be extremely frustrating.
I'm not trying to bash IS but I personally did not like it on my treo pro. On the other hand, if I ever have a NON touch screen phone in the future I may consider it. I ended up sending my IS back about 3 weeks after using it and replaced it with the Seidio Innocase II I also wrote a review on the Innocase II which you can read Here
Yes, Invisible Shield blows. Phantom Skinz have all of the same protection but without the orange peel and without the sticky, dragging feeling when you push on it.

Not buying SG2...

>This OP was from a user that is currently deciding which new handset to upgrade/change too. And has been wanting this handset for a long time, but now is having second thoughts<

Good news and bad news
Good news: Just been into Carphone Warehouse. And discovered Talk Mobile do a tariff. 12 month, £30/month, 400 mins, texts and Unlimited data with no fair usage limit. Handset £179. That in my eyes is a cracking deal.
Bad news: Handset looks nice, but has the ergonomics of a shoe box. Does not feel nice in the hand at all. Compared to my HD2. I maybe use to how my fone feels, but the edges just felt too square.
Also i tested both phones on moneysavingexpert.com homepage. The colours were perfect on the SG2. HD2 colours looked washed out. But I was testing clarity of the small letters. Both were identical. Iphone 4 is the yardstick for this and it fails.
So im passing on this and waiting for the HTC Sensation. The look and feel is paramount, u cant touch memory, so shouldnt miss it too much.
SG2= ergonomic fail.
I want to view pages without having to zoom all the time and read pdfs. Nice phone but no cigar, this time
Sorry.

to each its own. I couldnt stand my hd2 after having my galaxy s for a year. But it comes down to persoal preference. Im pretty sure theres some happy people enjoying there devices.
I agree. Nothing wrong with the phone, I just have a specific requirement to be able to use service manual pdf's on the move so i dont have to dig out the laptop.
Dont wanna troll. Just thought people who havent handled one yet maybe interested.

Having just upgraded from a HD2 yesterday I don't agree at all - the Galaxy S II feels a lot nicer in the hand. However, thanks to it's plastic construction, there is no doubt it feels less sturdy than HTC's offering. I get the impression that, despite the Gorilla Glass, one drop of this thing onto a hard surface would lead to a world of hurt. I'm not saying that is definitely the case but it feels that way.
I have a FlexiShield skin on order and I will feel a lot more comfortable once my phone is in it. I bought one for my HD2 18 months ago when I first got it and it saved it from at least a couple of drops. Superb cover.
On a side note, is anyone going to bother with a screen protector? I have never had a Gorilla Glass phone before so don't know the likelihood of it scratching. I much prefer touch-screen phones with no protector but for obvious reasons it's not a good idea.
lots of people aren't bothering with ascreen protector. they bring a good point that... anything that can scratch the gorilla glass will probably pass through any screen protector anyway. having said that... i'm getting one. i have one for my GS as well.
as for the GS II i just may not put it on yet
I like the shape of the sgs 2, very thin and light makes it ideal shape.
Yeah, we really needed to know this. Nobody is forcing you to buy anyone phone so if you don't like this one there is no need to run home, jump on the interwebz and make a thread on the forum about it.
I hope you like which ever phone you do get.

Dropped my SGS multiple times on hard flooring, concrete and Asphalt and despite thinking one drop and it was a goner the thing doesn't have a scratch on the screen, body still looks new and works perfectly. I wonder if the SGS II is the same way but I will not be dropping it anytime soon to find out.
I love my Galaxy SII but it seems that you might be better off with a 7in tablet such as the Galaxy Tab or maybe a bigger tablet such as the Advent Vega or iPad.
I personally couldn't read PDFs on a screen smaller than 7in for very long.
This is good info for me. Nexus One owner and I sported an HD2 for a few weeks and loved the feel and size, knowing it had the dimensions of my next phone (G2x was a failure for me).

Small hands...........
Small gloves...
yeh I know what your on about I went from iPhone 4 to gs2 and text is so hard to read with no reflow option, but I gain so much more with customization, and the weight is great, the iPhone feels like such a brick now.
in saying that I had a hd2 and really missed it after I got the iPhone, thought I could get that feeling back with the sgs2 but it's not the same hd2 is a quality product.
enjoy your sensation and thanks for being honest in the lions den lol
i do agree with the [OP] regarding the "ergonomic fail" thing.
..and this is coming from a Samsung phone fanatic like me
personally, i don't like at all the shell design of the SGS2, i'll definitely not use the SGS2 naked, it looks simply disgusting... seriously, for the lack of a better word to describe its design.
unfortunately i love all the technology packed inside that "disgusting" shell so is either take it or leave it, and i choose to take it
so the ergonomic fail became a non issue for me, as i'll be replacing the case, and using with a protection case, and other accessories i always slap onto all of my phones; i praise the after market accessories people to make the impossible possible

Disgusting? Seriously? Dear me, it takes all sorts I guess and the world would be a boring place if we all had the same opinions.
IMO: I like very much the design, I can hold it in one hand and even type with one hand, it holds perfectly in my right hand... Even ergonomically I like it. It's simply perfect for me.
It's up to you to choose another phone. I would never choose another now. Especially HTC sensation which have many things less than Galaxy S2.
+10 I find the design very nice unlike some here
And I would never change it for nothing on the market that's just a piece of beauty, a very thin piece actually
What I don't understand is the point of this topic ? If you feel it not as you want anyone else could feel it in the hand differently like me. And many peeps have already said they like the feel in the hand in this thread so your opinion can't be taken for facts until someone interested in it hold it for real :/ anyway...
Pitching in on the ergonomics of the device being awesome, for me anyway. If you have really small hands then this will probably be a pretty bad phone for you, since it wont fit comfortably into a normal grip. That aside, for people with average or large hands, this design works very well. You can keep a very firm grip on it easily, and one handed operation works too, all while having a 4.3" screen.
Not sure about the people saying it feels cheap or anything, unless you correlate cheap with light - because it's very light. If this is the case, you can buy a nice big heavy cover for the device to make it feel heavier and sturdier - but that seems really stupid to me. A phone is meant to be mobile, the lighter the better.
Phones won't be perfect until they're razor thin, bendable, and weight as much as paper! And the SGS2 is firmly on the right track.
To me I'm loving everything about the phone, ergonomics included. I don't have huge hands but find the phone very easy to hold and use for one handed operation.
As for a screen protector I will say a big NO. I work for a Verizon retailer and we have a demo line hooked up to their version of the first galaxy s, the fascinate, that also has gorilla glass. Being inquisitive and it being a demo line, I decided to test the durability of gorilla glass. Grabbed a phillips head screw driver and preceded to try and scratch the screen. Repeatedly I scraped it, scratched back and forth quickly, and somewhat violently tried to stab it. Wiped off the screen with a micro-fiber cloth and not one scratch or mark on it, gorilla glass is really some remarkable stuff.
I'm not saying its impossible to damage it, but it will take some serious effort. Since most of you guys probably take care of your phones anyway, with gorilla glass your screen will be fine. A screen protector on gorilla glass just seems redundant .
Problem is... the old galaxy didn't have an oleophobic coating. You try taking a screwdriver to that and the coating WILL come off. The screen will be resilient, but not the coating, sorry.

The HD2 is such a class act to follow, it's replacement has a to be nearly as iconic.
And only then will I splash the cash.

Adonit Jot Stylus

http://adonit.net/product/jot/
http://www.amazon.com/Jot-Capacitive-Touch-Stylus-Red/dp/B005GSS8TG/ref=pd_cp_e_1
I know there are many reviews out here, but wanted to make my own review here. As my time is pressed this will not be the longest review but a few key points I may expound on later.
The Jot is a stylus along the same principles as the dagi styli. Using a small plastic clear disc with ingrained conductive material in order to relay the 'touch' to the screen.
I have used many styli, from bamboo, to dagi, to ayl, to boxwave.
However, jot is definitely the best by far. Here are some bullet points to keep in mind:
*Uses clear disc at tip to increase accuracy and view of user
*REPLACEABLE tips help significantly reduce costs, increase longevity, and allow a more forgiving stylus to accidental damage
*A very conductive casing, which can act as its own stylus (I have used the metal housing as its own stylus)
*Screw on cap, that screws on to keep from being accidentally removed, and screws on the end to increase length and to avoid being lost
*Nice colors (not a pro for some, but where I like my red)
*Lightweight and feels slim in the hand while still being comfortable
*VERY helpful customer service. (I, myself, damaged the tip by my own error and they sent me TWO replacements for FREE when the original one only had one tip)
*Very agile tip. Unlike dagi styli, the tip swings freely on the ball bearing (literally can hold it by the tip and the stylus will swing very loosely) meaning that it is easy to use quickly without focusing on how you are holding it.
*The Jot Pro has its own additional pros, but I prefer the Jot to the Jot Pro cause I dont need magnets to hold it or a rubber grip
Cons
*No rubber tip supplemental. May not be a real "con" but I would like to see a rubber tip because sometimes I just want to use one.
*Popping the tip back on the stylus can damage the tip if done incorrectly. (The tip is actually two separate clear discs held together, and you have to put the tip on a hard, or at least resistant, surface and then press the stylus into it to snap it on. If you dont have something like a table or other resistant surface to use then you might wind up pressing the stylus through the first part of the tip and separating the two plastic discs.
*Some screens can be a little resistant to the disc sliding around, like the a500. My Galaxy S2 works awesome with this, but the acer a500 is a little resistant.
Thats the review so far, I may amend it later with more information.
Maybe a little RainX would help it glide better on the A500? Anyway thanks for the post, will be ordering one soon.
WOW! I really like the design on this one. I bought a dagi awhile back and the tip broke off eventually and I'm never rough with stuff. This one with the ball on end seems 1000 times better because then no plastic is flexing and weakening. I might actually buy this one even after deciding to not buy another stylus after last one broke.
I'm reviving the thread in the hopes that someone who owns one chimes in - if you have a video of you using it on the a500 or an opinion, please share.

3 compacitive stylus (styli?) for under 3 bucks shipped

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0053NBLFW/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details
Amazon has a sale on these stylus pens for $2.22 shipped. Any red flags on these? I likely would only use it to draw better. Other than that, I can't find other reasons for a stylus.
Just ordered them, so I'll let you know how they are. For the price jump on them.
The three colored ones?
I got them a long time ago.
I mainly use them for draw something. They do okay I guess. Nothing exceptionally good, just ok.. Not very precise but better than fingers for sure..
Edit: I lose them a lot, so I guess cheap is always good.
Not bad, thanks...You dont know if you can get a more precise stylus or "Pen" similar to the galaxy note style one do you??
THE Digitizer grid is not small enough for the real pen like stylus such as the galaxy note. There are a few precise stylus but they have a wide round see thru plate on for tip. I have one and it works much better then those posted above. I would love one to work like my Intuos 4 tablet. NOW That would rock.
As far as the price well you get what you pay for .
Good Luck
Well been using one for a few now, and worth the $2. I prefer my fingers for most stuff, but the styli work just as good as my $15 targus, just lighter and alot cheaper.

Just be careful the rubber tip doesn't smash and expose the metal rim on the stylus. This will cause horrible scratches on your screen (learned this the hard way). I got a nano fabric, retractable stylus a little while back. It works great!

Stylus Replacement

Hi Guys
Looking for a Stylus replacement for my tegra note after my little girl bit off the rubber on the end. Any suggestions??
If you find one let me know. I wanted to buy the pro stylus as I miss the thin end for writing but its kind of unicorn everybody talk about it but no stock available.
Have you tried contacting the store where you bought it from? They might be able to buy it for you directly from the manufacturer as a spare part.
Or you might have luck contacting the manufacturer directly, perhaps they have the possibility to sell spare parts directly to customers.
In Uk I have asked in PC World (as Advent is their sub-company) if they have them/will have/can order and the answer was "no". Also I have contacted EVGA EU (as their US store had them for a while but will not ship outside US) if they are going to have them the answer " no".
someone was selling them on ebay for about 15 quid IIRC
the homecare branded covers and styluses are available.
I don't think the rubber is that important but the funny core piece is so it might me feasible to make a replacement.
PC world must have spare stock instore to deal with people nicking the styluses off the display models I would have thought
doing a quick search and newegg have them but wont ship to the UK so you need a postal buddly
I am looking for one too. I have the pro stylus and while it is fine, the rubber tips wear out very quickly. And either I can not find them in stock anywhere, or they are like $35 (Insane) So I have been looking at the more main stream ones, like for the surface tablets, or similar to see if any work and have not had any luck so far.
So I am hoping someone out there can find a suitable replacement for our styluses?
Okay, I ordered this one from Ebay. It works okay, not perfect, but certainly good enough for what I need it for. It is a hard plastic tip, not a rubber one, so it does have a different feel. Since it is hard, occasionally the tablet will skip a beat sensing it. But again, for the price it does work to write notes on this tablet with. Be prepared for a 30 day wait on delivery though.

Hey there
How about other styluses like adonit jot or anything else
Anybody ever tried? I find the supplied tip very soft
Used to use wacom hard tip
Does it response with those batteried active stylus (not asking about pressure sensitivity)
And.....a tip
You can get "pressure sensitivity" effect by those cheap blunt rubbery head styluses.
Just a reminder that any standard pencil (mechanical pencils usually won't work) will also work as a stylus, though without pressure sensitivity. They work beautifully, and they won't hurt or mark the screen at all. I never use the included stylus any more. If you want the best option, check the drafting section at your local office supply store for some solid graphite pencils; they work the best, plus they're just really cool.
This is where I got mine in the UK

I'm using a graphite pencil now it works really well. Easier to hold than the stylus that came with my tegra. I've also put a screen protector on it so I'm not worried about marks on it.

I just purchased a set of standard wooden pencils and a set of 3 solid graphite pencils (HB),
both sets work but is somewhat hit and miss whether they work or not. I also found that the tip of a screwdriver
works fine (but not suggesting that you use that permanently). Best item that I've found is the back-end of the
standard wooden pencils, works like a charm without any skipping. What I want now is one of those little diary
pencils that I can jam into the stylus slot.
EDIT: Painted rounded solid wooden pencil end, not eraser

You've probably already tried this, but make sure your screen is clean if you're using pencils. The tip is so small (that's what she said) that any oil or dirt on the screen can interfere with the touch sensor. You also have to dull the point a bit; I sharpen a pencil and then scribble all over a piece of paper to round the edge down, and then it works like a charm!
I had originally not taken the point down enough (too sharp) and that was the cause of skipping, with a rounded tip
the solid graphite pencil works just fine. I also chopped off about 1/3 of the back end and ground a fat chisel edge
somewhat similar to the back end of the Nvidia stylus. (I take it that some have yet to find that both ends of the stylus
work, and the fat end is great for use in the Tegra Draw app, took me about 3 months to find out the thick end also works).
I still kinda like the fat end of a rounded painted pencil, smoother than the solid graphite pencil and not as hard (less of a ding as you stab at the screen). Strangely, a straight cut pencil end does not seem to work at all, the only ones that did have been
rounded end and painted, think the paint must be relevant for some reason.
Is there a cheap stylus pen that can be found on ebay or dx.com that would work as the original pen? In case one needs a replacement other than the original pen.
Anyone ever tried this one?

At $35, it looks rather expensive.
You can buy them direct from Nvidia as "Shield Direct Stylus 2" and on Amazon as "NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Stylus".
