Been hard at work, I see. Thank you in advance for all of your work, that which is coming and that which you've already down (err, I mean done). Your efforts are appreciated at least by me and, I'm sure, much of our community.
Peace,
Ray

Welcome back player... I've been real busy also. I did get 2 PC's up and running but nothing installed yet due to a 4 hour commute daily plus my usual 14 hour days. Hopefully ill have time soon to get them up to standards and time to do the graphics for us.

Welcome back, Cotter. Question (as usual) : on the twitter mod, did you change the pngs in res/drawable, or change the resource id somewhere? Curious because I want to try it with messenger, and some of the child Apps in carcradle. I think the principle may be the same

This community needs you TB101!...and I want to play around with your autotheme 2.0..... I got 1.0 but still playin w packages...

iam so in love with this UI but its taking sooo long for them to release...it was showed off in the start of 2010 its more than an year now...even phones come faster than that!! like in 4 or 5 months from announcement..but this is just too much!
Thanks for the heads up! I knew they were working on it and I'm glad they are releasing a beta! Got my request in and hoping to get it!
i tried to email them and still no response at all.
reply from spb technical support :
Thank you for your message and interest in SPB Software.
We will contact you via email when we have an open slot for you. Please note that while we will try to include as many testers as possible, we may not be able to include everyone in the beta test. Signing up does not guarantee participation. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. You can always refer to this ticket using this link: http://support.softspb.com/default.asp?193293_e8r4qlpo

Yeah, I emailed them ages ago and was told that they were getting thousands of requests each week and if I don't get a response within a few days it probably means I'm not getting in.
I did email them last week asking when we can expect a release and they told me that currently it's only for OEMs and Carriers and they have not announced SPB Android for end users at this time or something like that. Looks great, whatever the case.
In other news, with 150,000 apps on the marketplace it seems that I'm always discovering new awesome things. Can't believe I've never seen netfront life screen before looking at this thread. Just tried it out and it is freaking awesome. It seems to have a low rating due to lag at this time, guess we'll find out how bad it is. Really cool when I discover new things like this though.
Hi.
I have been using SPB_Shell now for a cpl of days and It is a fantastic launcher even at beta stage.
Here you go if you wish to try it out. Just pop it in system/apps using root explorer. Set permissions, Install, Reboot and as if by magic...........
Link removed on advice of fellow XDA members. I have messaged MODS to find out if this is allowed.......

AOSP Alpha for Fascinate

So, I see Twitter is all buzzing about the developers putting AOSP on the Fascinate and I was hoping to see some discussion about it here but surprisingly....nothing.
Actually I have to admit, I was hoping to lurk around to learn some more about what this means for us. As a new Android owner, I believe this gives us the stock android experience that devices like the N1 and NS have but I'm not entirely sure.
So I'm just coming out and asking, is this the reason why so many people are excited? To get rid of Samsung's TW layer on top of Android or does this mean something more? Secondly, does this offer us a pathway to Froyo or Gingerbread or are we still dependent on Samsung releasing their version first?
Aosp is android open source project. Yes it is vanilla android. The reason there is no discussion on here about it is that it is not totally functional yet, from last I heard, 2 days ago. If you want to see the progress of this, you can go into irc and ask about it. Aosp is usually more streamlined because there is no custom skin over it, sense, tw, blur which usually slow the phone down. It offers more customization, you can look at other aosp roms on different phones to see what kind of customization it offers. And lastly, no it does not pave the way for froyo or gingerbread. The source has to be released from Google which it has been, (I think) but samsungs source is corrupted which really hinders our devs from really doing much and makes it much more difficult. The RIL, the thing that allows us to call, text, ect also is also a problem. I hope this clarifies some things for you and I am still learning things everyday and if I have anything wrong, please feel free to correct me.

The alpha build was just "released" here today or last night. It's still buggy, but functional enough for basic use. It will make it somewhat easier to get AOSP Froyo/Gingerbread working, but it will still be difficult to get either on our phones without Samsung releasing either of them first to lay the initial groundwork for them.
Jt has made his own RIL for the aosp build, so I think this does help with froyo a bit.

Thanks guys. I had read the he was making his own RIL, which seemed like you would only do if you wanted to make yourself independent from Samsung in the future.
This is my first Android and I REALLY like it compared to my previous smartphone, the BB Storm 1. However, like the Storm, Samsung's inability to produce a timely Froyo build feels like Deja Vu all over again.
I've played with TW, Sense and Stock Android and maybe it's just me but honestly, they are all pretty similar. I know that some here will vehemently disagree but all of them just let me do what I need to do, run apps, write e-mails and make calls. Truthfully, it seems absurd for these manufacturers to even write these silly custom UI's at all but they seem to think that this provides some sort of value added differentiation.
The only 2 things that bother me about my phone, the occasional freezes where the hardware buttons are lit but don't respond and then all of a sudden all the touches that I made that didn't do anything at first, start to fire off rapidly. Secondly, not being able to upgrade to apps that are coming out that require Froyo.
Full disclosure, I would have said GPS performance but that was fixed here with DJ05 and JT's 12/12 Non-Voodoo Kernel.
Well, I think the only thing that scared me away from running the AOSP rom was the list of bugs that seemed to indicate that inbound phone calls don't always work and lack of BT. While I know I can try it out and return, I hate having to restore all those apps and data settings with Titanium, not to mention the potential for a late night in IRC in case things go south!!
I was really excited to see this and loaded it up as soon as I could. It looked great, I would have kept it on regardless of the bugs, but for some reason my home button stopped working and sms functionality was sporadic at best.
I can't wait to try it again when it is finished.
Gotta say, major props to JT, birdman and others. Only reason for me wanting froyo now that i have DJ05 is HID support, which most likely won't come until CM comes around, so i'll wait on installing this, especially since they don't need bug report yet. But its nice to see progress on the playing field, especially when its progress that the community has taken into their own hands.
Thanks for all the hard work.
^this. Cant wait until its fully stable/all features working properly. JT is truly awesome at his craft!
I'm running it right now as we speak pretty stable for me, my new daily driver

Working good for me as well.
Noticed there is no task manager as well as the backup to reload contacts. Guess it's manual input of those again....not so bad since it is the 20th time doing it. Just a nice waste of time.
Glad you posted this thread. It clears up some questions I had too. I've been in computing since 1980 and it seems like the more time passes, the more unfriendly people are about sharing tech knowledge. Android has been one of the most difficult pieces of tech for me to find solid CONCRETE answers about. You have to piece things together from hundreds of websites and hope the consensus is accurate and not a stream of cut and paste work. Especially with android purporting to be open, you'd think there'd be a lot more energy to encourage more folks to develop for it, but it almost seems exactly the opposite.

Google contact sync works fine (even fixes the duplicate contact bug that touchwiz has). I think he was referring to backup assistant (which is of course missing from this rom )

Does anyone else get an instant FC on the Facebook for Android app? I was looking forward to using the app's built-in and far-superior to TouchWiz Facebook contact sync. Thing is, it just won't open after a fresh install. The only way I can get the app to open is if I restore a TB backup of Facebook taken from DJ05... which automatically keeps the built-in contact sync disabled.
bwheelies, as far as contacts go, it its probably worth your effort to put them into your google contacts now that you are entering them anyway... Just click Contacts in gmail (on your computer)and go to town, you will thank me later. Well, maybe not, but it its a handy time saver for synching contacts in the future

Hey Verizon/Sprint Tab users

Since we are kinda the minority here we really need to stick together. We should start putting a thread together of our wish lists for developers. I feel like we are kinda behind the curve compared to the GSM folks and hope we can get more people involved in CDMa stuff.
Your thoughts.......
Good idea. . . . Just not enough dev in the sgt anyways. I bought my verizon sgt 2 weeks ago in hopes of something fun to flash like a hc port or CM7. I am dissapoint.

I am new to this and willing to learn, and will support with beer funds. I am assuming that the vzw efforts will carry over to Sprint since both are cdma devices. I have my galaxy tablet rooted but have not gone any further as I have not fully understood so many of the posts in regards to which are the better rom to use, the best method of flashing based on the rom, so to avoid any of the big issues..aka not booting etc. I am looking for a really good guide to get started. One that says first and foremost fo this before you start so you can recover you device if you really bugger it up.
I was in the same situation as you up until last weekend, notice I avoided using the "same Boat"
for now the first thing you need to get is Heidmall, dl the stock image and warez for your specific unit. If you need help I have aol and Gmail chat, Pm me for that info.

HID or SPP Verizon Galaxy
I may have found a solution for the bluetooth keyboard issue. "keypro" on the market will drive certain SPP keyboards (not HID) it is a little more to work with than the single verizon samsung option for keyboard use. I am waiting for my freedom universal standard keyboard and keypro is supposed to support it. You can download the program free and see what keyboards it supports. I will let you know when my keyboard comes in. Sorry if I am in the wrong posting area I just signed up so I could share this.

I dont profess to be any coding expert, and All I really know anything about is the VZW tab at this point. Sprint files are totally different but loading is the same.
VZW people should be on the look out for a new Kernel from Boushh, Im running it now for 24 hours and its a screamer and totally stable. Latest benchmark was 2221.
It should be out tonight or soon after.
Trying to learn basics of coding and all in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully ill be able to contribute down the road. I bought min early January and am very happy so far.. even with a gingerbread/wp7 hd2 on hand..my tablet is used much more. I have heavily layer into the honeycomblayout/theme and just the changeover to khasmeks work and honeycomb density and layout...I've started using much more. Like I said,I'm really pumped to start deving as I know alot of cdma users will benefit from more work coming to the table..when I start getting confident and have things down pat..even then I can't promise it will be as good as what Boushh has done, but at least it will be an attempt at getting more dev for cdma

WP7Android Lockscreen Released! ~UPDATE!~

Hey,
For those of you who don't know, we (me and my friend) from the WP7Android team were working and still working on a WP7 Lockscreen, which was released as a "Lite" version today on the forum (for the engadget promotion). when the Engadget promotion finishes (http://wp7android.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=113), I will publish the lockscreen on the market (Only the lite version, you will be able to access the full version on the website when its released, www.wp7android.com/shop/) and the full version will be hopefully released within a week or so..

there is no need for another thread...
There is no need of you spamming every thread with the WP7Android project.
Well, First I didn't know that there was another thread going on, that's why I posted this one. And second, I can understand from only one post, there is no need for the whole world to reply the same thing..
uhmm. Sorry, I meant to have replied to the first guy, not you.I have no problem with this thread

Yeah the shadewalkerz guy has been trolling all the wp7 threads.
I withhold my position that the wp7android team should release everything for free except maybe the launcher, so that people will use your stuff. When you release all these limited versions that are just okay, and then don't have the paid versions even on the android market, you aren't going to get hardly any profit. If you put everything in full for free you will likely get many more customers who would be willing to donate to the project, and you might even get featured on some android sites, maybe even Engadget or Lifehacker.

Too much advertisment for a buggy and unfinished product (wp7android). There is no urge to try your produducts seeing as there are other alternatives which are less buggy, like fede music for example. Widget locker can create the same look as wp7 lockscreen although it is not possible to slide the lockscreen picture up...but I can live without that aslong as I have a buggy and laggy free lockscreen

Yeah, I gotta say... I bought the actual WP7contact app and Im disappointed... have to uninstall Facebook to get it to log in. And then it will only do status updates. Won't sync with Facebook and friends pics or show there statuses. And for the first week. Every time I left the app and came.back in it would FC. I would have to uninstall or clear app data to get it to work again.
--In 1938 I killed a Hobo--
--In 1938 I killed a Hobo--
I installed and it worked out great. Had 1 issues tho, I could push the home button and the lockscreen would be bypassed by that, the slide to lock thing was a little buggy. For example, when I slide to unlock it'll just sit bouncing. It was good, but not for my use personally.
Good job overall, I'll check out the product in its later stages.

Dev shopping for music-only ROM idea

I had been thinking of all those who are going to or already have gotten a new phone, but thanks to the development community still love their old Erii. I am going to eventually (as soon as I get a job) switch mine, but I really love my Eris and don't want to see it end up getting tossed out like it's garbage. So I had an idea for a super-light ROM that disables or deletes anything not need for being a fancy mp3 player (read Android version of an iPod Touch).
I had asked Workshed if he might want to do it, and he said he thinks it's a great idea. I think it should happen and so I am asking the rest of the devs to try.
It should :
Be as fast as possible.
Be super stable.
Have (baked in) the WiFi only script.
Be sexy.
If possible, be either ICS or ICS-themed. (optional but would be cool)
If there is a dev that feels like giving it a try, respond here and see what you can do.
I love you all here on XDA. But even more so the development community of the Eris. It's made the using of such an outdated phone bearable and, in fact, enjoyable.
a froyo rom like this was made a year ago.. im surprised nobody has made a gingerbread version.. and honestly for a device thats not a phone.. i could deal with froyo... 2.3 on my touch pro 2 runs so slow...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979808
I have made my own "music only" ROM based off GSB 4.5 that workshed just released.
basically, I just load the "wifi-only" script via init.d, and have stripped out everything not necessary. The only remaining annoyance is that the signal bars for the cell network still appear in the status bar, just grayed out and with an x over them... I'm trying to find a way to remove the signal bars entirely from the device, and then I will be happy.
Is it not possible to just remove them from systemui. In a sense just remove the actual PNG files.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
I'm using xtrROM, because I needed native wma support. I stripped everything I didn't need. I used zeam launcher and put only one screen to avoid the annoying auto scroll from the well known crappy track-ball problem. I underclocked it with setcpu, down to 256Hz with the screen off. Added wifi only script, and I can get about 6 days moderate use and 8 hours of continuous play. I think an mp3 rom is a good idea, but I have already got a good setup. WMA support is a must though.

Futile post, I made a thread with the rom I released.
Called (ROM) Abridged for Music
I'll have to try that one once I get my new phone (soon so don't worry). If it's not fast, I suggest asking workshed for tips, since GSB has speed figured out. It should be really fast if the bloat gets removed, or at least easy to make faster. And as far as forgetting the script, don't worry. All devs forget something from time to time.
Also, if there are any devs working on ICS for the Eris, I would love one of them to try this out, as it could be a simpler "starter version" of their final work and be perfectly suited for this. After all, most ROMs start out really rough, with no working phone or some such problem. In this version, they wouldn't have to work all the major problems out, after all. All we want is to have no phone access, but WiFi. Not even Bluetooth.
However, I have to point out that this thread is for getting devs interested in the project. You should make your own thread for the result, so people can come to you and let you know of issues and suggestions.
