Change default country for android market - Galaxy S II General

Hi
JUST BOUGHT a new galaxy S2 in UAE
I need to access US android market to download Google voice as Its not available in UAE.
ANY Suggestions . ...
I m ready to reset to factory settings or whatever but wats the way to change default country
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

No need to reset
Use marketenabler

For that i need to root the phone and the phone will become out off warranty. Is there no other way?

No, because the information that determines your phone's country of origin is in a file that can only be edited with superuser permissions (which is why you root).
If you want to change the phone location then you 100% have to root.

Another way to change country in the market is to use a simcard from an another country.

Thanks, Whats the best way to root then? For Galaxy S2

So, if change the simcard of someother country and factory reset my phone, it will access market of that country??
Then once i change the simcard back to my UAE card, the original market stays??

I never needed to factory reset my phone, just insert the simcard and reboot the phone, and the market should have access to the american apps.

Yep, I kind of had the reverse. I worked in Egypt recently, and noticed with an Egyptian sim in my older Aussie SGS1, I couldn't see *any* apps in the market, but I was still getting notifications if an update was done for any app I had installed (and could do the update for all updated apps except paid apps). When I stuck the Aussie SIM back in again, bingo, full market.

Ultimately rooted the phone and installed market access. Am able to access other markets now

MarketAccess is better than MarketEnabler.

Slightly different problem
I came to this thread looking for ways to enable the FULL Market (books, movies) in any country. When I'm in UK my Market on my Galaxy Tab shows all content, but when I move to another country (Angola) the Market shows apps only. Should I expect Market Access or Market Enabler to help here? I've tried both, they say they are working, but I still don't get access to books and movies.

I'm not sure, but I'm at the same situation too, except my actual market doesn't even have books or movies in the first place, and changing countries (changed it to US) doesn't seem to make it show up either.

Just download the apk wtf

Yes Google locked it up. Even though you can access the apps it is not possible to access the Books Music tab outside the alloted countries. It is possible if you use proxy servers that are located in UK or the US. I think there is an app on the market called market unlocker Pro which reportedly does this but I can't test this since proxies are blocked where I stay. Try it if you want.

Paid apps inaccessible on Optus (Australia)

Anyone know why paid apps on Andriod Market are locked on Optus..??
My contract is up with them end of this month, thinking about jumping over to Vodafone..
Is there anyway to bypass this lock out?
optus block it so people are forced to use their own crappy market.
use market enabler if your phone is rooted, or put another carrier sim card in to download the paid apps..
there is a huge thread about it on whirlpool
I was using Market Spoof, I found it more convenient, just click the widget on or off when you want to use the apps store. I got fed up with optus and changed to vodafone mainly because of this.
I am in Kuwait and not able to get to the paid apps either.. Where do i download this market spoof or market enabler from?? Thanks!

Paid Apps in Market - Xoom WiFi

Darn it. Im in South Africa, and just received my xoom wifi. and find out that we dont have access to paid apps, and because there is no carrier associated with the wifi xoom, i cant even spoof a US carrier with market enabler.
i figured that it must have something to do with the fact that my IP address indicates im in South Africa.
so i need help in Spoofing my IP address.
i have found an app which i havent tested that can make android connect through a proxy. i just need a proxy....
hope it works
hi,
I have the same problem. Can you tell me what is the app you mentioned?
What about Amazon app store?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
the app is called proxy settings
https://market.android.com/details?id=org.credil.proxysettings&feature=search_result
I managed to get the proxies working as per this list http://hidemyass.com/proxy-list/search-278
I can now see paid apps but can't download apps even the free ones. I guess its the choice of proxy. I need a fairly robust one.
Hi, i live in Costa Rica and had the same problems with the market, this tip someone posted on amazon worked for the free apps , paid apps are still a problem.
"TURN OFF WEBSITE LOCATION
For those of us who are in another country or in a US Territory. Certain apps (in fact the majority of them) in the Android market will not allow you to download. You get a message such as "Cannot be donwloaded due to carrier" or something to that affect. What you have to do is go into the browser and in the right corner click the internet icon (looks like a piece of paper). Select internet settings and look for location settings. TURN LOCATION OFF. That is all you have to do. Then go back into the App store and begin your download. You can also do this for google books so it will work."
Hope it helps....
wish it had worked for me. I removed all location services in the browser and the system and it still magically found me to be in south africa.
Guess its back to finding a robust proxy
I was able to buy and then install the tablet keyboard on my xoom..
First I bought it on my nexus s using market enabler as paid apps are not available where I live. Then on the xoom and using a VPN connection in US I was able too see my purchased apps and downloading any of them.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
which VPN service are you using. it seems its the only way i guess.
Part Solution
OK, so I managed to use Market access a market enabler clone...
http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess
i still cant see the tablet optimised apps, but i can at least see all the apps ive purchased before. so its a step in the right direction.
it goes without saying that i had to root my device...

I've been using Banana VPN for a while on my PC and they are excellent. You can look at other options too as you can find cheaper alternatives.

So market enabler worked. U can download paid apps but they will not be listed in the market and you will have to search for them.
At least it works
But did u root it to use market enabler?
Sent from my Milestone using Tapatalk
yes you have to root it. though rooting with tiamat sd card hack gave me major market install issues..... so i had to root and remove the tiamat kernel
And how did u do that?
U can replace the kernel after rooting with no problem at all?
The Tiamat kernel is not needed to root =O?
What I did to get paid apps onto my unrooted Wifi Xoom, was to use MarketEnabler to download them to my rooted phone, then use Titanium Backup to extract the apk, and then transferred the apk to my Xoom, and then some guy named Bob called me claiming to be my uncle.

weird market access

Okay guys maybe im missing something here, but i know yere are several programs such as bank of america, compass bank, mint, and many more are available in the android market. When i try to access them on my tab they are not even showing up as available for download. Can anyone tell me what is going on?
Thanks in advance.
It either can’t be installed in your country or it’s not compatible. That is what I get when I look at some of those apps on the market from a PC.
Im in the USA and bank of america is installed on my android phone wont even show up on my tablet... what gives?

App developer has marked this app not compatible with Android 3.0
Missing apps in 'My Apps' of Market
Sorry I meant to post a new thread. Deleting and reposting...
Yep. I've only noticed the Netflix app is missing now.
When I was updating to 3.1 it made me pick a country from the list. Since USA wasn't a choice I just chose UK (assuming it was just asking for language purposes) . Could that have screwed up my android market choices?

[Q] how to trick market into thinking i am in the us

How would I be able to trick the market into thinking I am based in the us? There are a few apps like Google books and even nook is not available for my country. With the phone I can slip in a t mobile similar and problem solved.
I have tried using market enabler but that is a no go.
For me my account is American, was created in the US and is backed by an American card. I don't "miss" any software that users outside the US do. Unfortunately, I live in Mexico. So while I have full access to the US market, it shows me prices in pesos, which pisses me off to no end. Not a huge problem, but annoying.
So to note: My A500 was bought in the US, my market account was made inside the US, with all US information, here in Mexico it works just like when I'm in the US only the prices are in pesos. Dunno how hard it would be to setup an account from outside to US to look like it was inside. Use a VPN while you set it up I suppose, look up some random business address and phone number if it asks for such. As far as buying a tablet in the US, well that'd be harder.

Thanks for replying. So basically I will need to reset from a fresh tablet using a bocom?
Seems like google does not give much love fire non us fans.will try to look for a vpn to find out.
Here's what I did:
Kill the market
Clear the cache
Remove my gmail account
Turn off all the location settings
Turn on airplane mode
Turn on wifi
Run market enabler
Restart market
re-enter my gmail account
Now the market shows me the books tab, and apps allow in-app purchases. None of these were possible before. Hope this helps.

Here's how I always do mine:
a. Root your device and install Market Enabler
b. Remove all synced accounts in your Tablet
c. Go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> All -> Market and Clear the data of the Market App
d. Run Market Enabler and choose T-Mobile or Verizon
e. Open the Market App and it should prompt you to login a registered Google Account
h. Once logged in, Market should recognize your A500 as a T-Mobile/Verizon A500
Note that you need to do this every time you reboot your tablet. Additionally, the trick also works for the browser version of the Market (it should list your device as T-Mobile/Verizon registered).
Thanks Will try that, because when i tried it with just the vpn, it did not work. Quick question, have either of you upgraded to the leaked 3.1? because that seems to be "china/taiwan" rom.
I got this working on 3.0.1 and the leaked 3.1 China ROM.
I'm on Picasso custom rom right now but haven't tried it yet as I just changed ROM a few hours ago.
You also mentioned using VPN - no need for that.
Thanks. Got it working, but still cannot see nook, google books, earth and some others.could you see if you can see google books on yours?
The Books link shows up in my Market but does not contain any books on sale.
As for Google Earth, I was able to see and download it before (and Blogger app too). Same thing for other paid games like Dungeon Defenders and Pinball HD that did not show up in my region before. Not sure about Nook as I never looked for it but it should be there.
You can check the browser Market App to see if your Acer A500 is registered to Verizon/T-Mobile. It it's not, it's possible that the hack was not properly executed (items for sale in $ but you are not able to see region-locked apps).
Did you also turn off the location settings (no need to go on airplane mode) as advised by ill_dawg?
I can see the books tab, but not the books app. I am going to try to reboot, clear cache and start from there, turning off all location services and try.
Ok rebooted into recovery cleared cache and also dalvic cache for good measure. Start up, take away all sync apps, clear data on market app. launch market app and can see the google books tab, but still not the app. On the desktop browser, i can see the app, but cannot actually download to device, because it is still not verizon or tmobile. Have you actually got a 3G tablet? Thanks for help Panda, much appreciated.
Omg just Google for Market access.apk; if the device is rooted, u won't experience any problem setting a default location and backing data up.
Hi,
Just an update, I was able to dl Google Books from the Market.
Unfortunately, this method does not seem to work with the Books Market only the Apps Market. Sorry!

Thanks panda. I am still not seeing books on the market. Must be doing something wrong. Market access is just another market enabler, which already does not work for me. It's alright tho, sideloaded the app anyway.
I had seen books on my market...which ussually doesn't appear ....by installin market enabler on my phone and settin it to at&t.....or sprint(for codes look for market enabler codes) and used wifi tethering for internet access on my a500.....and it worked!.....and as a matter of fact price currency didn't change but books was available....so were the other apps which weren't b4.....so....give it a try(don't forget to clear market data).......and FYI....when I then I used regular wifi....books dissapeared!

ok quick update. Redid the whole procedure and it worked this time. Was able to download the US only apps. My mistake was to just untick the sync accounts. Whereas this time, I REMOVED them as was instructed and it worked. Thanks guys.

i read in the moto section some time ago, it was enough to replace the build.prop with Verizon build.prop of xoom, but it didnt work.
so i used a VPN carrier (overplay.net) and instantly i got books and videos access so its for sure testing your origin by ip address.
and it worked with a A500 (PRIMEE!/asus) profile too.. as i tested videos (i just looked at its trailers)
but for me VPN is the only way it works, and if i disconnect vpn, i loose my web videos. i did not check if the books access also got lost as well, but the books remained on my bookshelf.

Try checking through Titanium Backup if the app is frozen.
My nexus didn't show the App initially, but it was actually already installed, but was frozen by google due to country restriction.
I unfrozen the app using Titanium, reboot and seems to work fine.
Although I still have to use VPN and Market Enabler to access content on Play, but content I copy through USB seems to work fine on the app.

Actually I have a quick question. Were you able to get the 25 dollar app credit and transformers movie? Because I wasn't able to get any
I don't have the 25$ credit as well, I don't think you can get the credit if you activated your device outside "USA".
Google also double checks the credit card address to confirm your country of origin as well.
Honestly it's not a big deal, there are many ways to get the movie.
I plug in and copied a few movies (including Transformer ) to nexus and they show up and play fine on Play Movie.
My only problem is Play Book & Play Magazine doesn't recognize anything not purchase through Play.
So I have to use other readers (Aldiko) which read my ebook, and magazine.
The interface is not bad, actually better then Play Book/Magazine, maybe give that a try.

Another option, you can Root your device and try running Market Enabler + DroidVPN.
I was able to access the US version of Play and can download App without country restriction.
But I haven't tried purchase as I don't have a US address tied credit card.
The downside is VPN is slow, you have to upgrade Premium account. You may have better luck trying than I do.
But DroidVPN seems down these few days for Upgrading Premium account.
If anyone has other alternative for DroidVPN, please advise?
