Better a2dp with the Tab - Galaxy Tab General

I like using my Tab for web surfing while listening at music, and use a2dp for bluetooth streaming to a Nokia BH-214 connected to my amp.
Since music play stuttered when cpu was busy woth web page downloading or switching apps, I tried to renice the whole bluetooth and media player stack with
renice -20 -u bluetooth media
(of course in a root terminal).
This apparently reduced stuttering in a significant manner, and I'm reporting here for discussing.

Is this something that could be tone with Tasker, when it detects certain Apps running?

I've tried, but don't know how to make Tasker run a script as root. Without root you can't renice system tasks.
What I'm doing presently is having a "promote bluetooth" widget, done with script manager, which can run scripts as root.
EDIT: now I know how to run a script as root with Tasker
See http://tasker.wikidot.com/rootbasic
I can confirm that it works flawlessly: I connect the a2dp device, tasks get reniced -20; I disconnect device, tasks go to base nice level. I'm very happy

Ernesto,
I am getting a new car radio this week, that supports BT music.
What app do you use to stream stero audio BT to the car radio.?
I can only find those that perform mono.
Thanks for the research.

I am using 'Music Folder Player', a folder-oriented music app. There are both free and donate versions, and performs well.

Bluetooth weirdness

Got the mini last week and am generally loving it
However, a couple of niggles. When I'm driving to work I have the mini playing music via a bluetooth audio device (that transmits FM to the car radio) and when I get to work I listen to same audio through a JayBird stereo bluetooth headset.
My previous two phones (both htc and windows mobiles) have coped admirably with this. However, with the mini, when I get to work, connect the JayBird and then start playing music the audio profile disconnects. I then have to keep reconnecting and eventually it seems to work but is a bit laborious. There doesn't seem to be a repeatable process to guarantee it working.
Not sure if it is possible to revert to the standard Windows Mobile bluetooth management - like I said things seemed to work with previous phones/custom roms etc.
The other thing is that the htc audio manager's shuffle doesn't seem quite so random as media player's! If I've got multiple songs with the same title it tends to play them all together... weird!

Bluetooth AVRCP Being Ignored

I bought a bluetooth car kit to play music with. When I first paired the device to my phone, all 3 the media buttons worked (play/pause, forward, and back). The next time I used the kit only the play/pause button worked.
Knowing Samsung sucks at everything, I didn't waste my time disconnecting/reconnecting. I plugged the phone into the ADB interface and watched the system log in DDMS. What I found was really confusing.
I plugged the bluetooth kit into a 12v source and connected the 2 devices. I played some music off my phone and watched the log as I presses some buttons. In the log, the button presses were actually showing up in the log with the right scan numbers but the media player just doesn't respond to anything other than play/pause.
If I try different combinations of connecting/disconnecting I can get the media buttons to work but 90% of the time they wont. WTF is happening T_T
I have not had that trouble with my bluetooth head unit. I have been using Pandora and Mixzing. I only have issues with audio dropout and it seems to disappear (stop dropping) after the connection has been used for maybe 10-15 minutes.
It worked perfectly with my Samsung Omnia.
I found out that the bluetooth controls only work when the media app is in the foreground. If I'm on the home screen the controls will be ignored. If I have pandora open on the screen, pandora will be controlled.
This is annoying and I wonder why nobody else is having this problem.
I understand your frustration. And if I may, I would like to add this question:
Does anyone have a handle on the interrelationship between the Epic 4G, wireless headsets, and AVRCP music players?
My rooted Samsung Epic 4G is running 2.1 and has the stock ROM.
I’m looking for a compatible MP3/Wireless headset combination using either the Motorola S9-DH or S10-DH, or the Rocketfish RF-MAB2. So far, I am unable to do everything the headsets say I should be able to do, that is, answering a call and having the player resume (both headsets get this far) and also controlling the MP3 player, i.e., allowing for track skipping, pausing, etc.
In short, I do not have control over an MP3 player’s basic functions from a wireless headset.
I have tried both the Motorola and the Rocketfish. While the Motorola does not see an MP3 player at all, the Rocketfish does control an MP3 player’s volume level.
The following MP3 players were tried: stock Epic player, Winamp, PowerAMP and MortPlayer Audio.
I am open to suggestions. I am not wed to the Motorola or Rocketfish, but I am comfortable with the way they sound and fit.
OR...would you buy the headset you like, work the MP3 player manually (not a good idea while driving) and tough it out until Froyo addresses the issue of Bluetooth connectivity?
Thank you.

[HOWTO] Bluetooth A2DP and HFP working (rooted phone)

As a Junior member I am not allowed to reply in the Development section of this forum, so I share what I have discovered here.
You must have a rooted phone to edit /system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf
Use ADB or Root Explorer to edit this file.
Thanks to this members for leading the way to a working bt-connection:

When connecting to car audio system I now have bluetooth streaming music from phone to car speakers and the HFP (Hands Free Profile) working. Receiving a call when listening to streaming is also working as the music mutes and the call is preferred.
Before I could only connect HFP and from time to time got a message saying phone must be re-connected.
I made the following changes to /system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf
[General]
Enable=Sink,Control,Headset,Gateway,Source
#Disable=
AutoConnect=true
[Headset]
HFP=true
MaxConnections=3
Reboot the phone after saving audio.conf, enabled Bluetooth and under Options for my car audio I have two profiles ticked:
Media [v]
Phone [v]
-
My SGS GT-I9000
PDA: XWJS8
PHONE: XXJQ1
KERNEL: Speedmod-k13e-500hz
does this add a "media audio" profile to the galaxy bluetooth?
I have a Parrot bluetooth in my car and a Galaxy S. On the profile for the parrot in the Galaxy S I do NOT have an option "use for media audio", only "use for phone audio".
I have not been able to stream books (I use Ambling book player) to the parrot except when using the app called SuperMonoFroyo but it has to be restarted after every call placed or received.
I'd like to get the "use for media audio" profile if possible.
So is the mod to /system/etc/bluetooth/audio.conf a solution to my problem? Or is there some other way to solve this I haven't found.
Thanks
sblevine
This mod wasn't needed on Gingerbread. XWJVH stock audio.conf connect phone & media just fine.
Are you sure Parrot support A2DP?
Older C-F kernels also had problem with bluetooth but it is fixed on recent version.

Hey O-T,
I updated my audio.conf to the conf that you specified, but I still do not see the additional Phone audio profile under the options of my BT connected speakers. My device is a galaxy S2 T989. Do you know if this conf enables phone audio via A2DP for all the devices or is it just for GT-I9000?
Thanks.
I have updated to GB 2.3 and this problem to connect bt a2dp is gone.

Bluetooth problem

I listen to stuff on my Galaxy Note via samsung bh 3000 Bluetooth headphones. My problem is that occasionally the sound just stops. It's not that the Bluetooth connection has been broken - the device remains connected, and I can still stop and start the playback by pressing the button on the headphones. When I do that stop and start, the sound comes back again if some budy call me.have flashed all diffrent kernels with some kernels it works some time. Any ideas of how to avoid this problem?

I have that problem too. I've only had my BT headphones a couple of weeks (Plantronics Backbeat 903+). I use Power Amp.
The BT connection is still active. Other sounds come through OK. The play button on Power Amp shows the pause symbol though, as if it is still playing. I usually have to force close PowerAmp and start it again to get the play button to work again and to be able to hear music.
Yesterday I tried using the stock music player when I went for a bike ride and it didn't stop at all. So I don't think it's a problem with the headphones or BT on the Note.
I don't like the stock player much (sound and interface) though, so I just downloaded the player pro demo and will see if that plays nice with my headphones.
I never noticed the problem when not using the BT headphones in PowerAmp, but I've never used it for a long period without the BT headphones.
I'm on the stock LC2 with root.
I'm using Nokia bt905i headphones as well as a parrot bt interface for my car stereo, and these for several hours a day. GN side, I use poweramp player and a series of Internet radio players.
Never had a problem of this type.
Kernel : cf-LC1, stock rom.

I did some more testing today.
I had the same problem using Player Pro, but again, no problems with the stock player.
What I did notice, that it seems to coincide with announcements I get through Sports Tracker.
So if Sports Tracker gives me an update on distance or tells me it has auto paused or auto resumed timing, then sometimes (not all of the time) Player Pro and Power Amp seem to freeze up and the play button is stuck on pause.
I have to stop the app via task manager to get it to work again.
The stock player doesn't seem to have any problems.
I'm not sure why, or if this is just a coincidence, and if it is just with BT (I only use Sports Tracker when I use my TT headphones too).
Maybe when Sports Tracker access the BT audio, it's conflicting with the way Player Pro and Power Amp access the audio, but the stock player doesn't have a problem?
But it's not all of the time either, sometimes I get the Sports Tracker updates and Power Amp and Player Pro keep playing fine...
Do you have anything else trying to access your BT audio at the same time too ?
If you are talking about Sports Tracker of Sports Tracking Technologies (there are many of them called "Sports Tracker"), from my experience I can say that this program causes a lot of problems in wireless communications of my Galaxy Note. For instance, it interacts badly with phone's wifi radio, so each time I use it, I first turn wifi off and, what's more, when I finish using it, I go through the application manager to Force Close Sports Tracker. Otherwise, sooner or later, I'll have to restart my phone! Notice, that while activated, Sports Tracker works fine with my polar bluetooth heart-rate belt (no disconnections).
Yes it is Sports Tracker of Sports Tracking Technologies. I haven't noticed any problems with wifi on my Note. I use wifi at home and it has worked each time I've come home.
It works fine with my bluetooth headphones in terms of giving status updates. But I'm starting to think those status updates cause Power Amp and Player Pro to freeze.
I might try Endomondo tomorrow and see if that makes any difference to Power Amp and Player Pro...
Therese a app called btswitch from market. It helps.the problem is you must switch it on every time

Just an update on this, I emailed the developer of Power Amp the other day describing the problem.
He sent me an updated apk.
I've used it for a 40 minute and a 60 minute session with Sports Tracker and my BT headphones and no music freezing. So he seems to have fixed the problem I was having.
I'm not sure if you were using Power Amp also, or some other music player. But if you are, it might be a good idea to contact the developer, or wait for an update if he integrates the changes into the next release.
Volume Boost app
What you're describing will happen if you have an app called Volume Boost on your Note. As the name implies it helps to boost the sound volume and bass a bit for your headphones. But I find interferes with Bluetooth and the built in FM radio when its activated.
If you have the Volume Boost app, set it that it does NOT come on at start-up and DON'T put it's widget on the home screen. Only activate it when you need it.

Nexus 4 4.2.2 and RNS 315 car system issues/tweaks

Hi,
I am a happy switchover to Nexus 4 from my iPhone, only thing I am starting to miss are some integration bits with my car audio system.
I am currently connecting the phone via bluetooth and it is working well, I can stream music and use built-in car dialler, however, I do not see what is currently playing on the car dash.
When I had the same setup using iPhone, I could see the currently playing song information. I can still skip to the next song using car's steering wheel buttons but I only see "Bluetooth audio" on the display.
I am using the default Google Play app to play music - have also tried with dogcatcher but no avail. On the iPhone various app worked - Music, Podcasts..
Second issue I have - is it possible to "force" phone calls to background when connected to bluetooth headset? I would quite prefer the satnav to stay on instead of seeing the current caller's information - as I already see that on my dash.
Thanks!

The first problem is caused by you and other people buying iPhone. You have contributed to pushing 3rd party manufacturers into supporting proprietary apple formats and communication protocols.
There is a perfectly fine Bluetooth protocol for track display, but your car stereo doesn't suport that, only the proprietary Apple one.
Hopefully you are now aware of the evil lock-in tactics that Apple have been engaging in, and next time you will check the product specifications to see see if your purchase is going to lock you in in any way.
Volkswagen and their bluetooth devices work fine with Android. It's Android that lacks a proper protocol to push that info to the radio. I know this because I worked with VW for months on troubleshooting the issue. Eventually, I obtained a stock galaxy S3 and it displays info just fine. With a custom 4.2.1/4.2.2 rom, it does not, just displays "BT-Audio".
CM is adding in bt tag support, but it currently doesn't work with play music, but is noted to work with pandora.
OP - your second issue is not possible. The radio automatically flips to the most recent info it has to display to you. You can manually toggle it back IIRC, as I can on mine.
I have the same issue:
See thread which explains a lot and could solve your issue:

We need to get AVRPC in our devices then it would work.
I drive an A5 SB with no go : ( to bad
yea the bluetooth works on my ford focus, but doesnt show the info of what track is playing.
