No more space on phone - HD2 General

I'm running htc bliss WWE 3.5 for hd2 by dungphp, I have a EU HD2, 2GB SD card with 1gb partition 0 swap, I have a few apps but I can't download anymore due to no more space on my device memory, my SD card is almost untouched, is there a way to save apps to my SD card instead of to the device memory?
Thanks in advance

There are many ways to move apps to the sd card. You can go to Settings-Manege Applications and select the apps you want to move to the sd card. However, this can be troublesome if you want to move many apps. You might want to use Apps2SD to batch move the files to sd. On the other hand, do take note that not all apps work when when they are moved to the SD card. So it is best you only move the user apps that take up more memory. Just a word of advice, even if your apps are in your SD card, it is only a matter of time before you exceed your 2GB of SD card memory. 6/8GB class 4/6 should be ideal.

Installing applications on SD card instead of main memory

Everytime I install new program to HD2 it asks me if I want to install into main memory or SD card. My PC windows experience says that it is advisable to install programs to main drive (C: usually). Does the same logic apply to WM devices? Or is it safe to install apps into SD card (which would leave more space on actual device)
It's really up to you where you install them. The only things to bear in mind are that the internal storage cannot be expanded, and you can remove the storage card.
The way I do this is to install anything that I think I'll really want to always have at hand on the device (essential apps like coreplayer, nitrogen etc..) That way, if I remove the storage card then my device still has my most favoured apps on it. Anything that I'm not too fussed about (games in my case) goes on the storage card.
It's your call completely, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with installing things on the storage card. In fact, I'd recommend doing it when you're installing non-essential apps so that you save internal storage for things that you don't have a choice with (MarketPlace apps, for example, or tweaks and mods).
Hope this helps mate.
ok, thanks for detailed reply. I will try to install apps to SD card, if that option becomes available during installation process. I am not switching SD cards, so it should be fine then.
one more question that is related to the first one... If I install application on SD card, then if I take the memory card out, put new ROM into phone and insert SD card back. Will applications run as before installing new ROM? Are all program files saved to SD card when installing or does it do some registry entries or save some files onto maine phone memory???
In my old JasJam I found that programs loaded faster when stored on the device storage as opposed to the SD card.
Is this the same on the HD2?
If you upgrade ROM then you will need to do a backup first then restore afterwards otherwise you will lose everything including the links to the programs on the SD Card (although the programs will still be there).
I use SPB backup to do this. It works well. I used it yesterday after I upgraded my O2 V1.43 ROM to HTC 1.66. The restore worked great
All Micro D cards aren't the same I paid a bit more and got a Class 6(fastest) 16GB card. Class 2 is the slowest.
I hope this helps?
Things to remember
SD card usage eats battery.
SD card usage is slower than phone mem.
SD card usage can cause conflicts and freezes.
SD card usage creates app associations that really should not be carried over to new ROM flashes.
Installation to phone mem gives smoother and more stable operation of phone.
You have plenty of on phone storage space so why not use it?
Links to apps gone
i have loads of applications on my SD card for my HD2 but when i reset it i lost all the links to them so now the only way to get to them is to go to the file explorer but i dont have any icons anywhere else on my phone, any suggestions?
Either reinstall the apps, or simply browse to the executables, copy, and paste as shortcut in \windows\start menu.

Differences between internal and external SD card?

Hallo everyone,
I just get my SGS and I notice that the memory structure is so defined:
- The internal storage memory (8Gb, but i see only 5,7) is called "SDcard"
- the phisical external Sd card is seen as a directory, called "SD" under the SDcard.
Now my questions are:
When I install big seized programs,e.g. Navigators, all the program data are by default stored in the internal memory, which is limited and fix (not expandable). I would install the navigation map on the exernal Sd.
Is this a problem of Android or just how SGS impemented it? Is it possible to make the external card be rocognised as primary SDcard?
- Why the internal memory is only 5,7Gb? ok 8Gb are theoretical but 2,3 GB less ....
Thanks
Bye
The reason it's so small is because the OS and it's apps have to go somewhere, also when Froyo is released you'll be able to install apps directly to the SD card but know that internal memory is much faster than an SD card so you may what to keep that in mind when you factor in what apps to install to SD.
Hallo Sebrina,
thanks for the answer, I supposed the 2,3 Gb were for the OS, in fact the space for application is 1,8GB, but I hoped the two memorys are separated.
So with froyo will be able really to install the app on the real Sd card, and not on the internal memory, whichist called "SDcard" by the os?
Thanks
bye

is it possible to re-partition the internal SD?

App2sd

hi everyone, im try to move some app on sd but cannot .. all install into internal 512..
how can solve this to move more app on sd?
tks
As Android is running from sd card, its pointless to move them.
i wanted to move games and apps to the SD as well to keep the phone memory free
Indeed I have same problem. Phone memory is iconic since it is still SD card (due to android running from SD card).
But even when the iconic phone memory is running out of space, android warns you as if it was real.

Low on space ERROR!

Hi,
I guess the subject says it all.
To clarify, I've just got my new Note and I currently have Acer A100. I took the titanium apps backup folder and transfered it to the Note and did a titanium backup restore.
I've successfully restored 316 apps, but still have 84 apps left.
My System Storage says: 1.8gb used - 184mb free
USB Storage from Storage says: 11.07gb total space - 8.37gb available space.
I couldn't complete the titanium backup restore and have to turn the phone off/on in order to stop the FROZEN apps restore process on the 318th app out of 464ish.
Moreover, I can't install anything from the Market and I get unable to install for insufficient storage error.
Any ideas, help? And please don't say I've to install an external SD card since I'm not planning at the moment. My concern now: why this is happening?
BTW, I don't have Facebook app installed so I can clear the cache, and I already did Market clear cache, but no luck.
Thanks!

Move some apps to SD.
i had this issue when i first started loading my apps on the note. started getting low memory alerts after about 200mb was left then stopped loading any app when about 190mb was left. what the f*** my old htc desire had 147mb internal memory available for apps and would load apps till about 5mb was left on initial firmware then with updated firmware would allow apps to load only till about 15mb was left on internal memory.
anyway even i too had about 10gb left on the internal storage and still would get the low memory alerts. and just could not move apps to internal sd card with apps2sd pro or even the stock apps tool for moving apps to internal memory. my 32gb card was almost full so was stuffed till i deleted some stuff on card and then could move a bit to external card.
but somehow later, when installing / uninstalling apps it seems to have now moved some to internal sd storage dont know how it happened and i have more meroy on my external card now.
but phone does crash with freezing and only sorts itself out when card removed. happened a few days ago and again last night. works perfect when no sd card. card is sansidk 32gb and works fine on my htc desire. but the folder structure is a bit different from my htc desire and dont know if my htc desire folder structure being present on my card is causing issues and freezing and crashes. if not sorted then will put a new card and copy over stuff that i need.

As I said earlier, I don't want to insert an external SD card at the moment. I want to use it like any other phone/tablet that has more than 3/4 of the storage available... BUT, thanks for the suggestion!

I had the same exact thing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Around 190mb, my phone started to give that error.
So, I either had to install/uninstall apps and see if it moved them to internal storage, or I have to have an external SD card????
I just ordered a class 10 16gb sd card from AmazonBasics and I'm waiting for it. My problem is that I'm overseas and I want to use the phone fully without an SD card!!!!!!!!!!!
how big are the backups and what are you restoring? if you have loads of sms/mms etc then it will take up the internal space
the usb space you can ignore as that isnt part of the data space provided
The backup was 1.8gb. But I was restoring only the apps nothing else from titanium backup...
Is there away I can use the USB storage as internal storage for apps? And I mean not using an external SD card at ALL...???
Post with incorrect information.
I tried doing that, but it tells me that I need to insert an SD card!!!!

You have misunderstood move to SD option.
Gingerbread storage operate a bit different from Honeycomb.
The 16GB onboard storage in the Note is divided into two visible partitions, 2GB for storage apps and 11GB as SD card.
The move to SD option simply move the apps from the 2GB partition to the 11 GB partition, no external micro SD card is needed.
Just download App2SD and see which apps can be move to the 11GB partition to free up space for install extra apps.
Once Note get Ice Cream Sandwich update, hopefully we will not have this problem.

no your method didnt work for me even though i had 10gb free on usb internal memory and 190mb free on partition reserved for apps. app2sdmove pro and stock application manager would refuse to move any app to usb 11gb memory. my 32gb sd card was full so couldnt move there either. only after i deleted some data and made space on my external 32gb card could i move apps withh app2sd pro or the stock app manager.
but curiously later (2w later) somehow (i dont know) now about 155 apps seem to have moved themselves to internal memory (the 11gb usb memory present internally on the phone and now i have 10gb used up on the internal memory and similar amount free on my card. god knows how that happened.
now as my phone was crashing again last night have had to remove sd card from phone and phone working fine. will see whether to copy data to lapton and reformat the card in phone and then transfer back data or whether to use a new card.
but the app move to sd feature is certainly buggy with there being different areas to move the app to. now some of my apps are on internal 1.9gb memory, some are on my 11gb internal memory and some are on sd card. i have no contrl over which app goes where irrespective of whether i use stock app manager or app2sd pro.
any pointers anyone, how to force all apps to move to internal 11gb memory and not to external sd card?
Thanks for the clarification.
There must be something (some sort of process or an action) triggered the apps transfer to the internal storage!
Don't you think? Can't you think of anything that you've installed or did that made that happen?

dont know but the crashing usually starts at night uk time and always hangs when system media scanner is perpetually scanning then device crashes. cant remember what apps i uninstalled but most were reinstalled and seemed to work fine a few days. same phone has been phone all day today but the sd card has been removed since last night. am busy work wise till tomorrow so havent had the time to sort out the sd card. will see over the next few days.
regarding the apps moving to internal sd card. i just deleted some apps then reinstalled them then used the regular apps2sd pro to move to sd card, seems t work sometimes, but not at other times. same goes for the app settings menu. for example if i now without sd card in phone try the sd card move option, it does not move apps to internal 11mb but rather i get pop up saying no sd card. but dont know how the 155apps are already on the same 11gb on internal memory, but many are still on the 1.9gb space of partitioned internal memory and can be moved.
i already have google earth installed from the market and moved it to sd card. but thought that some bits of it remain on internal memory. but doesnt look like it. now without sd card if i visit market then google earth on market gives install option again inspite of having it already on my sd card and when i press instal it installs again onto 1.9gb of internal memory and when i try apps 2 sd option then i get pop up saying no sd card and doesnt move it to the 11gb internal memory.
dont know how to sort this issue. will try to figure it out over the next few days but hoping someone else can give some pointers how to move apps to 11gb internal memory.
out of the 303 app icons present on my noteapp screen (including all the ones that came with the phone) 128 are on external sd card, 155 are on internal 11gb card. dont know how some went to internal sd card and some went to external sd card. hope someone can help out to move all of them to internal 11gb memory.

This is not correct.
Apps to SD moves files from internal memory to /sdcard/external_sd/Apps2D.
This is the external SD card normally. (it's technically possible to mess with the device links to swap /sdcard and /external_sd though).
Data in /sdcard comes from applications which download their own data.
I.e. you run them and they say 'I need to download a bunch of data!'. For example, Asphalt 6. That data can't be shifted out and there is a definite possiblity of filling up your 10 gig partition with stuff like this.
This is one of the bigger faults of the Note, IMHO.

That's what I thought...
It's one of Note's drawbacks in terms of usage of internal storage and there's no workaround as far as I know.

My bad, good to know.
I don't seems to find /sdcard/external_sd/Apps2D path, or Apps2D folder using both My Files and Root Explorer apps, must be hidden.

Whoa - you are right... Me neither. I got the location of Apps2D from the diskusage app. I wonder if it's a diskusage bug.

No move app to external sd...?!?!??!

So apparently since the android Jelly Bean update you can no longer move apps from the internal sd card to the external sd card. BULL**** (forgive my french) this is ridiculous why would they get rid of that feature? The 16gb s4 actually only has roughly 9ish gigs. That's not enough space if you download the big games nowadays. Has anybody found a workaround for this? Unfortunately you can't even use the app2sd app. I have a 32gb sd card waiting to be filled with apps so if anybody knows a workaround I would really appreciate the help! Also I would prefer not to have to root my phone.
*I have the At&t Samsung Galaxy S4 16gb model*
Download gl to SD from play store, you can move any data to external SD, just follow the directions.

Sadly I dont think rooting can even help... the sd slot just seems like they added it so people would buy the phone atleast thats why I got this in stead of the iphone..

Here's the app that you need. Move any data to external_sd.
DirectoryBind - move data to external_sd (GameLoft, Shadowgun etc.) ROOT req.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410262
EDIT: OOPS!!! DirectoryBind doesn't work on 4.2.2
(I'm still using it on my S2 w/Gingerbread. Waiting on the 32gb or 64gb S4.)
Have to use this instead:
[APP][ROOT] FolderMount - Link folders from internal SD to external to free space

Thats because they're installed to it automatically. Before when you moved to sd the apps moved from inernal to internal sd card, which is where apps installed on the s4. Ext-sd is your memory card you insert on back of phone. Stock app manager has never been able to move apps to ext-sd only sd card. Titanium back up and other apps can though. So remeber if you inserted a sd card in back you have three storage places. Internal, internal sd, ext-sd. Apps install to the 16 gig automatically on the s4.

OK, I'm not a full-on geek (e.g. I do not want to root my device), still I'm pretty savvy, but I don't understand what you've said here.
I just updated from a Samsung Stratosphere (Android 2.3.6) to Stratosphere 2 (4.1.2), so I'm now acclimating to JellyBean.
I moved my SD card from the Strat to the Strat 2 and can see in the File Manager the sdcard0 and the exSdCard.
You are saying that in addition to my inserting an actual, physical SD card, there is both internal storage and additional built-in storage (sdcard0)?
Three separate storage areas?
The "main" internal is for the OS?
The built-in SD is for apps?
And my additional external SD is for data (e.g. video, music, etc.?)
I'm confused because, while the phone is still zipping along smoothly, Settings/Storage is telling me that, in 24 hours, I've already gobbled up 4.3 GB of my 8 GB device memory, > 3 GB of this being "miscellaneous" files.
Meanwhile, my application mgr tells me I have used 1.1 GB with 3.7 GB remaining.
Mind you, I am not a heavy app user (e.g. Evernote, my bank's app, NY Times, Dropbox, a few simple games), so what took a 3 GB chomp of my internal memory. For the life of me, I can't remember how I did it, but I did move all "consumer" data (e.g. documents, video, photos, etc.) to be stored on the extSD but, in 24 hours, I don't have that much to store.
Bottom line, are we non-rooters slaves to the internal (SD?) memory for our apps?
