Anyone running this?
Is there any discussion of the RCs? I find some discussion of Nightlies, but not RC nor info about what is included.
Now for the stoopider question.
Can I install this RC just like the nightlies using Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards?
Any special considerations? Like clearing Dalvik & cache?
Thanks,
kev
Idk bout running from SD but I have been running off emmc and I just wiped cache and dalvik. It should be the same process as you have been doing for nightly. Just back up first.

I purchased a brand new Nook Color on Monday, brought it home and immediately installed "update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-encore-signed" to the internal SD by following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1030227
My results so far have been fantastic. The only thing I have experienced so far that is even close to a 'bug' is that the backlight comes on when I plug in the charger, even if the Nook screen is off. Pressing the power button once turns the backlight off. I fully expect to eventually run into some other issue, but for now I am very happy!
I'm about to install it right now, been using the latest nightlies with no problems, but I still update every few days.
I would also like to know if there is a reason to switch to RC if the nightlies are working?
Sent from my Apple IIe
If a nightly is working great, then no particular reason to install just like there is no particular reason to install every single nightly unless you want to. I went from nightly 103 to nightly 112 then to RC1, it works great and yes it can be installed just like a nightly on the sdcard using verygreen's method.

The only reason I switched to 7.1 RC was to more easily implement the USB functions as described in verygreens WebCam thread.
It also requires the latest dalingrin OC kernel of 06/18/2011
Has anyone resolved the BACKLIGHT ON WHILE CHARGING issue in RC1?
Thanks
As for the backlight issue, just tap the power button when you begin charging and the backlight will turn off. My issue with rc1 is flaky wifi. By this, I must explain, not losing wifi signal but random switching between multiple signals at random. I have 2 routers here about 250 feet apart. My nook sits about 10 feet from one of the routers and has a full signal but sometimes decides to drop that signal and connect to the other router which has about a 40% signal. These are both 802.11 G routers.
Sent from my NookColor using Tapatalk
I also have two routers and have noticed the same switching and/or connecting to the one with the lesser signal even though I may select the stronger and hit connect. I just updated to nightly 120 will see if there's any difference.
I tried updating to 7.1.0-RC1 the other day and upon reboot it stayed at the flashing ANDROID text on the side. I was able to boot into recovery and restore a previous backup of 7.0.3.
For what it's worth, I noticed my wi-fi signal changing as well as the nook booting up when I plug it in to charge - both on 7.0.3 prior to attempting the 7.1.0-RC1.
I'm still learning and probably missed a step somewhere with the RC1 flash, maybe I'll give it another shot. Thanks to the devs for all the hard work!
Running it for 2 weeks, stable but some games don't work
Running RC1 for a couple of weeks now - very stable and smooth - but Spiderman: Total Mayhem stopped functioning altogether (was working extremely smoothly on CM 7.0.3).
Let me know if there are any possible workarounds - thanks !

The backlit issue may be a holdover from NC stock because the owner's manual states this is normal.
RC is stable enough.
Running this for about 2+ months and the results are fantastic. Anyone knows when the RC2 or stable release of 7.1 is planned?
I am running cm 7.1.0 and ever since I flashed my trackpad has not worked right. I can move it around over items but if I press down on it it wont take me into an app or whatever I want it to do. But when in text messaging it will act as if it is stuck and will bring up options in the text entry field and keep doing it till I close out the messaging app completely. Anyone else experiencing this problem or is my trackpad just stuck or broken
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Have you tried other ROMs to see if it it's a hard ware problem?
I rarely use the track pad except to wake the phone.
Well 7.1 is coded properly and works with the track pad. At least when it's install correctly.
Not saying you did something wrong in the install, but it's entirely possible that something went screwy during the flashing. Maybe a file related to the trackpad didn't get put in right for whatever goofy reason.
Since you say the problem started as soon as you flashed 7.1 I'm pretty confident in saying it's a software problem. (Though coincidences do happen)
Try reflashing a fresh download of 7.1 and see if the problem fixes. That's the first thing to try because it's one of the easiest things to try.
If that doesn't work, then try a different ROM. And if that does't work, the button is broken.
Assuming you followed the directions about whipage, you may want to double check that the download was correct (checksum) and not corrupted.

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to install a new ROM on my girlfriend's HD2. I use a SGS4G, and everything is much simpler there. I have Cyanogenmod installed on her phone currently, but I did that a while ago and I completely forgot how I did everything for it.
I'm trying to do the following:
- Repartition a new 16GB memory card so it works with the phone
- Install a stable/smooth ROM for her to use (this one looks good -- is it?)
The problem with the SD card partitioning is that I'm not exactly sure how to boot into CWM (assuming that's where you partition the SD card at). I can get into the aMAGLDR v1.13 screen, but I have no idea how to progress into the CWM screen.
The second problem is that I'm not sure how to format the system to 200mb and the cache to 5mb.
If someone could at least point me in the right direction. I wouldn't mind trial-and-error with my phone, but I'd really like to avoid bricking hers. Thanks!
get the 'nand tookit'
start phone into magldr, and choose 'usb flasher'
connect usb, run the toolkit, magldr repartition, select 200, and hit repartition. This will partition teh nand AND install Cwm
then, restart, in magldr choose 'ad recovery', this starts cwm, , in cwm - advanced - partition sd car (or words to that effect, i'm not restarting my phone to check) - it WILL wipe your card, so back up anything you wanna save.
So much for the SGS4G being easier lol. Thanks for the information!

Lol, no native Android phone is as easy to flash as the HD2 is HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM, Partition SD, ROM with no chance whatsoever of bricking it providing you have an EU HD2
Yeah, now that I see how the HD2 is done, I wish the SGS4G did the same.
I came back here for another question, however. My girlfriend said that her phone randomly becomes unresponsive. When she hits a button, the backlight for the buttons comes on, but the screen doesn't turn on. She's forced to pull the battery to reboot and have it working again. It happened once yesterday, and just now as well.
The rom I flashed to her phone is this one. I tried searching that thread, but was unable to find anything. Is that a hardware issue, or software? If it's a software thing, what's a different rom I can flash that won't have the same issue?
Thanks guys.
I offer you my understanding of the issue and what I've read about it. It's not definitive, but hopefully it helps.
The issue is often referred to as the black SOD (screen of death), so you can search this to try to find more. It appears to affect some HD2 roms, as well as various other android devices. As for the cause (hardware or software) I've seen people claim it was certain apps, roms, kernels, even the SD card (some said changing to a 2 or 4 GB card stopped the problem).
I currently have an issue with this, but mine started after I had a cracked screen replaced. When my screen goes black during a call it will occasionally exhibit the same symptoms you described, and I believe my issue is due to the screen install and the proximity sensor. To bring the screen back I hold the screen towards a bright light (or flick a lighter near the proximity sensor) and it's worked every time for me. Not a fix, but if it works for you it beats pulling the battery.
Lastly, my personal advice would be to consider a Gingerbread rom for her phone instead of ICS if there are any other problems. The ICS roms are still undergoing heavy development , where GB roms are usually highly tested and polished.

Hmm, as stated above it could be the SOD, but that's extremely unlikely. This problem never existed on NAND builds and was solved a long time ago on SD builds. I would suggest trying a Gingerbread build (probably CM7 or MIUI, Sense is RAM consuming) and using that instead. No matter what the dev says ICS is NOT stable or fast on the HD2, it's all just advertising. You will not beat the speed of MIUI and CM7 and these are the most stable as well. Assuming your girlfriend isn't a power user MIUI is better as it has a better UI with more eye candy, although you probably will want to replace the stock launcher with GO Launcher because it's simply better than the stock one.
Would you mind linking me to a stable gingerbread CM rom? The one I flashed for her before the ICS one she has now also had the problem of the screen turning off and staying off. I don't mean to seem lazy, but I don't think she'd let me have her phone for long enough to test out all the roms. Thanks again, guys. I appreciate it.
Typhoon, look for it in the nand section.
ALL the ICS roms are still works in progress, no matter how much the author types 'for daily use', they aren't daily useable for everyone.
Gotcha. Thank you!
This ROM is smooth as heaven, have a try!
Hi m8! try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026

Hello there,
I recently changed from Schlund's Photonic SD Boot to CM 7.2 NAND Version, where I started having this strange issue. SD Boot worked just fine once I managed to get over the critical first 10 minutes after booting without freezing. Now the screen shifts occasionally, especially when I'm opening white windows or menus like the shutdown menu or the one where you enter a wlan security key. It stops in every position, just like mustafas picture shows. If I turn it around, the line dividing the screen just stays where it is, both frames will turn. I tried changing every single option related to the screen, flashing different versions, without gapps, without update, even [ROM] Phonerty MIUI v4 (ICS). The bug is a bit slower in this one, but still there. In all cases everything is the way it ought to be after tapping the standy button and waking it up again. But in most cases it will wont stay that way. I can't even flash it back to WM (and I don't really want to since I know how useful this little thing can be with Android on it), every RUU i tried to use told me I was using the wrong one. Any ideas? Anything new about this one?
Hi, my Nook's screen is freezing sometimes I don't know why, maybe because I'm trying to use an app an then it goes to the home screen and it freezes, so then I can't use any button on the screen and the power/volume buttons either. So then I hold the power button a few seconds and it turns off, then I turn it on again.
But I don't know what's happening.

I think you are right, it is an app you have installed. CM7 is very stable and does not freeze like that on it's own, especially on internal memory. The only thing I can suggest is to start removing apps till it quits doing that. Maybe booting to CWM and wiping dalvik-cache and fixing permissions.

Anti virus on your nook? Most people don't use anti virus. I have not heard of any viruses for android. I would maybe suspect that.

This is a Nook Color thread, not Nook Simple Touch. You might get better response posting in a NST thread.
