hey guys
I'v got a number of documents in *.chm formats, and its incredibly frustrating that windows mobile doesn't support the format by default. I've been looking for a CHM viewer, but have been met by little success
Was hoping someone would be able to direct me to a stable CHM viewer (since the files im trying to open are upto 200MB in size) - preferably free.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS - i'll update my first post with any recommendations that are given, so others looking for a chm viewer don't have to look through the entire thread for the link.
Well, I have tried quite a few CHM viewer but the results are dismal.
Some do manage to open big files as I have big books too but then they lose the layout etc and the document in rendered useless.
For smaller documents esp those which do not have an index bar Amber CHM works well.

Hello,
MicroOLAP CHM ebook reader would do the magic. It's not for free however. I am currently using the version 2.5 on a Blackstone without any sweat. Formatting and Setting are kept as original as possible. You will definitely like it as you happens to have big clogs of eBooks. Check it out.

i recommend you Alreader2, it reads .txt, .docx, .doc, .pb2, .zip, and web files and u can keep the books anywhere u want
i think hes asking about ereader...they new to be in a .epub file...you can convert most files into this with a word processer ,,save them to doc/erader/books
then you go into settings/system ereader indexer and hit index...
The books need to be in a fodler names My Documents\Peanut Press. This folder can be in main memory OR on your card. eReadr will install itself to main memory but you can easily move the .exe to the card if you want.

No.
eReader does not read .epub books at all.
It started on the Palm platform, so reads .pdb (Palm DataBase) files. With the right software, you can convert an .epub book into a .pdb one.
I have used eReader for many years and generally like it. I haven't found a good reader for .epub books that I like as much (including freda, which is probably the best one currently available).
schmenge is correct that the books (.pdb format and some .prc's) need to be in \My Documents\Peanut Press either in device memory or on the storage card.

Are we talking about the eReader in a lot of the HD2 roms out now??
There are 10 examples in the folders on the internal storage. And there's also a books.db file. I just used a SQLLite 3 editor to edit it and inject my own info into the books.db file. And I also put an .epub file in the Books dir.
It opened after a hard reset. Painful process to get it into the db but hey, I can side swipe the .epub books there and don't have to scroll down continually.
So, the HTC HD2 DOES read epub files. I used Stanza Desktop to create one from an MS LIT format file. Copied it over, edited the books.db, and hard reset and it worked.

I can't imagine why we would be. This is a Touch Pro 2 forum.

Because some TP2 ROMs use parts of the latest HD2 Sense with eReader Tab. DeepShining X2 for example.

On the other hand...tt's also not a Palm forum, so why would anyone be using .pdb -- Palm database -- files?

Yes, all of the many TP2 custom roms that have "LEO" in the title/name (and some that don't) are using Manila/Sense from the HD2 (aka LEO).

Because eReader was released for Windows Mobile many years (6? 7?) ago and PalmOS has gone the way of the dodo. You probably just skipped over my explanation ("...started on the Palm platform...) or are pretending to be unable to understand that in order to make a point.
The primary reasons for using that format (irrespective of platform or the history of the extension name) are:
1) People have already-purchased ebooks in that format and want to be able to read them without conversion.
2) They're still being sold by the bucketful.
3) Many high-quality free ebooks are readily available in .pdb format and not readily available in other formats.
The only current devices running eReader are WinMo, Symbian, Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, and Blackberry devices. eBooks in .pdb form are sold at http://www.ereader.com/, owned by Barnes and Noble. It's a fairly large and well-established enterprise and I don't think it's unreasonable to make the assumption that, in the absence of all other identifying information, the OP was referring to the eReader from eReader.com.

Gotcha. All of those include the eReader tab? It must be pretty well-hidden on the ones I've flashed.
Since there are apparently now two apps called "eReader," one well-established for many years and one brand-new and bleeding-edge, it might not be a bad idea to specify to which of those one is referring.

Only problem is that the settings applet does not seem to exist
Just to add to the confusion, BOTH of the eReader apps that I know of are from Barnes & Noble. The original, .pdb-only version that started with Palm then went to Peanut Press is now owned by them. The new, .epub version from the Leo Reader tab is also from B-N.
Confusing and silly.
I can't think of any good reason they don't update their original eReader app so it can handle .epub books, which they also sell.

Nope. The sense ui tab is connected to Borders.
However, B&N's reader, which is not yet on WinMo, does use a lot of epub (in addition to some pdb) as you say. The reason they don't update the original ereader app is because fictionwise/ereader.com have remained under their own management and retained their own online store (once, the largest ebook store in existence). Since they don't sell epub, they see no need for epub support.
mstevens made the correct assumption. If someone asks about eReader support on any winmo forum, I'd suggest pdb PML files. If they wanted to know about the tab, they should have specified. "eReader" is the name of a very specific and incredibly popular application, not to be applied to anything that happens to read books.
This works for my ereader tab in New 2.5 build .epub format

Whoops - brain fart on my part.
Hi,
I am making an eBook Android App for a Client.
The idea is simple, it's a Kindle like app development where the user will get an application and a ebook in a encrypted format and the ebook can only be opened by the reader
The basic implementations are done, I was requiring to have the option to Annote the text and tables (Highlight, underline, strike through).
Something like what we have in Repligo
Is there any way this can be implemented. If would be a great help
About only the reader (yours) opening the ebook... this can be done if you create a new format only readable by your reader or using a format which is sort of "unknown" and not able to be read by other ebook readers. Good luck in your project.

Well, as I said the basic functionality is Up, i needed help regarding the highlighting, underlining text, et. al.
I want to use Nook simple touch for reading lecture notes. The thing is that notes contain a lot of mathematic symbols, the format i use is pdf. I tried other format and everything was messed up. When i use pdf version in normal letter size everything is ok but letters are too small for relaxing reading, so when i try to increase letter size everything is messed up (mathematics types are lost or get confused).
Does anyone know how to deal with that?? I tried some other reader apps but everything is much worse than the default reader. Unfortunatelly i can not use a lot of reader apps. It is rooted but android version does not support a lot of reader versions.
Thank you very much in advance.

Hey,
Is it possible to add highlights and annotations to PDF's I've downloaded online (all online essays/papers) and then when I open the files on my pc and import the PDF files back to my pc, does it keep the changes?
So will changes made on the Nook be saved IN the PDF as Adobe Reader does? I've been searching far and wide for an answer and my guess is it will but well I need to be sure before I purchase this reader. It will be my first e-reader
Asking the question here so I dont have to make a new account on some e-reader forum. Hope you can help me out!
Thanks
No, all the files (EPUB or PDF) read on the reader are only read only.
The annotations are saved in the Annotation provider.

Thanks for your answer.
I was afraid of that. And by rooting the Nook, would it be possible to change that? Or rather, after rooting are there ways of using the Nook in a way so I could make changes to the PDF files? I've been reading about different reader apps (Moon+ or Radaee PDF Reader) would these do the trick?
I would not mind rooting it, I would mind buying it and then finding out there is no use as all I can do is read the papers... Highlighting is a huge priority and as far as I can see all the e-readers work with an 'export to new file' rather than 'save to original file' function.
Hope you can clear things up for me one more time! Thanks!
Solved
Oke... So I found out what is causing my confusion. I tested some PDF readers on my phone and each time I saved the file and then copied the PDF to my pc via USB the file would be without the highlights. Now I gave it one last try... I used the share option and send the edited PDF to myself via email. The result? When I opened the file on my PC the highlights were there! This is probably not how it is supposed to be but well.. At least a big problem is now solved for me. Kind of weird though.
