[Q] Class10 Sd Card with Android - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Hi all.
I know there are number of posts in forum about sd card speeds and preferences. But everyone says different from the other about exact performance. Both sd and nand android versions need a fast sd card to work smoother. That makes me want to change my 8gb Class2 sdhc with 8gb Class10 sdhc one --> http://www.e-piix.com/memory-cards/team-micro-sdhc-class-10-8gb.html
Write speed with class2 card is 3,5-4 mb/s and read is about 14,5-15 (Tested using sd tools, on hyperdroid cm7 nand rom). Will a class10 sdhc improve my smoothness or make me experience a faster android? Anyone has experience with a class10 card? Or any ideas?

i think brand is more important than class. for me class2 sandisk has smoother than class4 toshiba. i strongly recommend sandisk. and i think class4 is fairly enough.

Agreed, stick with Sandisk. My Kingston 16GB class 4 is cheaper than a Sandisk but apparently is not read by MAGLDR for SD Android, so I can't boot more than NAND Android. I think that all Sandisk cards are supported.

Ok, thanks. If you have a sandisk, could you add a test result then?

there was a thread about that in xda moths ago.can you please google it. and test results may be faulty. because standart read write speeds has nothing to do with android. if you can find that thread you'll see many interesting results with different brands.

I don't understand what's so surprising? Are Kingstons not common in your area?
And yeah, there was a really good thread a while ago which showed that in some ways the class 2 cards outperformed the class 10 cards by miles, whilst in others they were thrashed. Also showed good details about brand.

Yepp sandisk 16gb best one!!!

4GB Mini SD

Is there anybody using 4Gb cards in the trinity?
Can it be an SDHC? Or is there already 4GB non SDHC mini SDs?
Memory speed & specs
are there special requirements in terms of tranfer speed ?
could a 133x mini SD 4 Gb ( Samsung nand flash ) works correctly in our trinity ( to be used as storage for gps Maps , MP3 and pictures ) ?
I don't care about video streaming or other video performances..
Please let us know wich kind of memory are used in your devices.....
Thanks for any reply

So far SDHC doesn't work, hopefully a new ROM will fix that. People have reported that a standard 4gb miniSD will work when it is formatted to FAT32. I'll let you know in a few days when mine arrives...
I am using a standard 4Gb card from mobimemory.com
Formatted Fat32.
Works fine!

I am also using same card from the same company with no obvious problems. I also bought a USB mini SD card reader from them as a bundle and interestingly its the only way that I can reliably read and write to the 4Gb card with a PC. To be more specific I found using a mini SD to SD adaptor with a standard SD card reader didn't work (probably old card reader, or possibly because SD spec is maxed out at 2Gb).
I use the 4 GB MiniSD from Topram
Works fine for already 2 weeks. If I have any problems, I shall report them.

Yes, I've just tested the TopRam miniSD too, its working like a charm. I guess when I update my ROM, I'll be able to use the SDHC 4gb that I already bought. I'll have to say that all performance being equal, the normal flash card might be better since it will work in most card readers. SDHC card readers are hard to find.
Just wondering does the Transcend 4gb sdhc card now work after the dopod gps test rom update.
What's the difference between a 4GB SD and a 4GB SDHC? Which should I get (considering that the Trinity will read SDHC after the update)?

I hope that you bought a card reader that is compatible with SDHC also, otherwise the only way you will be able to read that card is with it in your phone. I must have 4 card readers and a laptop with one built-in, none of them will read SDHC format.
So, does SDHC 4gb MiniSD works with new rom? Anyone?

Has anyone tried the sandisk card? Should I get the transcend card or wait for the sandisk? I am running the dopod test rom.

So far I've only heard one person say that they have the SDHC card working on their device running the test ROM. If you really want to know, you'd better wait a week or so, or just order the normal 4gb mini SD which would be compatible with most card readers.
SDHC from Transcend works fine
I just received a 4 GB mini SDHC, and tested it. It works...
Hi,
can you tell me the advantages between a
normal MiniSD-Card and the SDHC Version of it ?
Mfg Ulti and THX !

I think the advantage is that SDHC format allows for a much larger capacity in the future. SDHC also supports a very fast transfer rate, but I don't think these devices can utilise it...
I don't think you gain anything with SDHC for a phone, maybe the transfer rate could be useful in a camera or an SDHC compatible card reader.

[Q] Fastest SD for Android on HD2

Hi guys i have been using
FroyoStone Sense - V2 for couple of days now and with basic winmo install, so far I love it.
Although it seems to slow down when more stuff is opened also when using Astro for file explorer.
Since this android build is all running from the SD card are there better cards like faster ones? I'm using the original 16g that came with my T-mobile phone. Is that the fastest i can have for that phone?
what's your sd card class ?

Class 2 i think
im usung a 4gb class 6 and its screaming compared to my friends using the included (class 2) 16gb cards.
so yes the speed of the sd card helps, they go all the way up to class 10

Class 6 seems to be the most popular. I went with this one.
wait till the nand rom comes..it will be there soon
DN41
im not sure i want an incomplete rom in the nand.
I'm using a 16gb Kingston C10, and yes it's really fast, compared to my old
16gb sandisk C2.
Ok but now I need to transfer my android and all the stuff to the new sd
should I just copy over all the folders and thats all?
I want to keep all my settings cotacts, apps and more!

Best SD Card?

I recently bought a 16GB Patriot MicroSD card, class 10. I find that after 24 hours of use, things start to fall apart (I've tried several different SD builds). I also have Sandisk 16GB Class 2 card that runs my daily Android software; never had a problem with it in 2 months. I follow the same procedure when attaching the card via a reader and removing it from my computer. I also use the same procedure when attaching the phone to my PC. I have concluded that the new Class 10 card is failing. My questions are:
1. Is anyone using a Patriot 16GB Class 10 card with success?
2. Can you give me an opinion of the best 16GB card when using Android on the HD2?
3. Could the Patriot card be too fast for the HD2?
4. Is there a maximum class rating I should not go over?
Thanks in advance.
-Bob-
The best SD Card for me is ''Kingston 16gb Class4'', never have had a problem.

Same is true with my very old Adata 16gb Class 2. But, I was hoping to get a bit more speed.
I think class 10 is too fast (and expensive XD ) for the HD2,
I got Kingston 16GB Class 4 and it works perfectly.
Hey all. I've got a 16gb Patriot class 10 installed, been using 1week now with no issues, Cotulla's Nand stock desire rom. Seem a little faster than the stock provided card, not sure if was worth the $ for the slight boost though.
Sent from my Nand~Droided HTC HD2
3/19/2011 - my 16gb patriot still no issues. Mine has been formatted multiple times and been re-partitioned with ext3 and even split for dual boot wp7 and hyperdroid gbx v7 and now v9 and have noted no sdcard related problems. Have downloaded and deleted multiple apps, and currently have 6gb of full DVDs on it. Have noted with all SD cards, you gotta pay attention when you're instructed to mount/dismount card via phone or when in mass storage mode connected to PC via USB, or when in PC using card reader or data can get corrupted. Hope this helps.

Hmmm, I absolutely can't seem to keep it from crashing. Right now I'm experimenting with another class 2 card to see if I can manage to destroy the installation again. Glad it's working for you. Might the difference be that I'm running an SD version from the card using the current stock HTC ROM?

I use Kinstom 32GB class10 early. But when I take photo, some photo maybe have error.
After that I check for internet about it. Someone said that maybe Kinstom's problem. It's not stable.
Now I use the Sandisk 32GB class4.
Maybe defy not support class10.
or that's Kinstom's problem. I don't know.

I bought a Team 16Gb Class 10 micro SD and it freeze my Defy, but I read that all Smartphone have trouble with class 10 cards (maemo and WP7 too).
It's something related to voltage (if you use setsvel to undervolt) and with partition (you need format the card with 32k or 64k)
I think Class 4-6 will be enough, until the Android Kernel will support class10.

Did you mean SD Class?
Just look at the card, it has either a 2 or a 4 or a 6 in a circle stamped on it. Thats the class. The class = the number of MB/S it can transfer.

No. Class=speed only. He said the partition have 32K 64K.....I think that is not Class. Because the class can't change when you format the sd card.

Using a class 4 32 GB Kingston since a few days, working nicely. Got 5.5 MB/s write, 12 MB/s read. Thanks for the info, I was going to buy a more expensive (and I though, more future proof and safer) class 10 one, before I read about the compatibility problems with class 10 here.
using class 6 non brand. Works perfectly with 2.3.4 CM7

If you want to find out what partition your card is just plug it into your computer then mount as SD storage. Right click on the card from "computer" and select format. The default settings your card is set at will be shown. You can change it to other sizes, and formats (like FAT, NTFS, but FAT32 should be default and used for phones). I recently formatted my Samsung 8GB class 6 at 4069, and no issues so far. Don't worry it won't format unless you select to format, so you can do this just to check.
Hi there, because of this thread i bought a class 6 16GB Trancend SD card. Formatted it with 64kb clusters now have 11,2 Write and 21,9 Read speed (in SD tools).
Thx you all for the advice not to buy a class 10!
Running GB 2.3.4 nandroid.

Android HD2 with 32 GB SD card?

Hey guys,
let me ask you one question. Is anybody using 32GB SD card in HD2 with Android ROM?
Yes. I've got a Sandisk 32GB [class 4] card using latest NexusHD2 ROM.
And everything works fine? No problem with read/write operations?

yes, i also have had the 'small' 32 GB card for a long time with no probs. Sandisk of similar good name is recommended. and class 6, dont pay any extra ro higher, lik class 10, as they are slower in a phone.
but.....
posted by hyellow on the WinPhoney 7 forums,
"For anybody who wants to try it, I have put a 64 Gb microSD XC class 6 by Sandisk into my HD2 and it works. Just flashed the new ROM with it. Didn't knew the 3 year old HD2 was already anticipating on XC. "
onwards and upwards...
32gb kingstone 10 class.... very good, very fast

I'm surprised, 3 years old phone supports 32 GB card. I am using Cotulla's LEO "Stock" NAND Android ROM.
IMO difference between Class 4 and 6 is minimal. A REAL Class 10 at 16 GB may be a better deal.

From what I've read class 4/6 performs somewhat better in general use of the phone except obviously moving large files to the sdcard such as ROMs, and using the video camera to write large files for general use I've read that class 4/6 are somewhat better.
I'm currently using Kingston C10 32gb without problems.
