[Q] Tatto gets stuck when booting - Click General

My wife was about to reboot her Tattoo yesterday. She closed the phone normally, but when she was about to start it up again it didn't.
When I try to boot it it says Tattoo, after a while a couple of droids appear on the screen and after this the phone says HTC. The HTC text seems to be "active" for a while (light flashes across the letters) but after a while it stops and a few seconds later the screen goes black.
I can go into fastboot on the phone, but can't do very much in there. If I try recovery or anything else I get a warning triangle and a phone on the screen.
I also tried flashing stock ROM, but since USB does not connect to PC I can't.
The phone runs stock ROM and is unrooted (I think). I know I was about to root it a year ago but I don't think I did. Also, when I boot with back + power I receive HTC boot options and not the one I usually get on my rooted Desire.
Does anyone know what to do?
Thanks!

I don't know what to do……

what do you mean with "USB does not connect to PC"?
Can you see a boot logcat with adb?

Do a hard reset...google this...

Is my HTC Magic totally bricked?

I bought a Rogers HTC Magic for a pretty cheap price. It had The Rogers 1.5 Sense UI update on it. I decided I wanted to root it and load other ROMs, etc. So I read that the easiest method was to use Universal Androot to root it, and ROM Manager (from the Market) to flash the appropriate recovery image.
So, I installed both apps. I first ran Universal Androot and rooted. I confirmed root through ADB and also Super User permissions. I then restarted the phone just for peace of mind. After the restart, I ran ROM Manager. It automatically popped up and asked me if I was running an Ion/My Touch or an HTC Magic. I selected HTC Magic, because that's what this is. So then it flashed the recovery image and restarted the phone. When it restarted it went to the Rogers boot screen for a few seconds, and then started a loop of restarts. That's all it does now. It shows the Rogers screen for a few seconds, goes black and reboots over and over. I have tried booting into HBOOT, Fastboot, and into recovery. I cannot boot into any of them. One thing I did notice is that when I'm pressing any of the combinations (volume down + power, home + power, menu + power) for a very brief half a second right before the phone restarts, the bottom of the screen says "ClockwordMod ..." where ... is the version of the image (I'm at work without the phone, so I don't recall the exact number there).
So, is this thing officially a paperweight now, or is there some sort of hope?
Thanks.
Paul
Well, I don't know if you are full-bricked but here is what went wrong. The HTC Magic recovery is incorrect for the mytouch3g (at least the 32b). There was a top option for "saphire/mytouch 3g" which is what you should have chosen. So, you can't load the incompatible recovery. Can't you boot back into the rom you were using? The recovery flash shouldn't have messed with it. If you can, boot back in and flash the correct mytouch3g recovery in rom manager.

Okay. That's weird. I mean, my phone is a Magic so choosing the option for the Magic instead of the Ion/MyTouch seemed to make sense.
Anyway, I cannot get anywhere. Holding vol+ and power does nothing, neither does home and power or back and power. Are there any other tricks to getting anywhere beyond this endless restart loop?
Thanks.

You may be, I'm not sure exactly what state you are in but the recovery you installed was for a magic 32a (that you have) with a 3.x radio (that you don't have)
The rogers sense rom uses the 6.x hero radio and needs a hero recovery.
The mt3g uses a 2.x radio thus yet another recovery.
Try booting with volume down to see if you can get into the hboot/fastboot screen, but I think you tried this already.. you may also try letting it loop unplugged until the battery drains it may error out giving you access again..
Besides that there is the option of jtag and fixing the software stack that way.

Right, I cannot get into fastboot or hboot. I'll try running the battery down when I get home today. Interesting idea.
Unfortunately running the battery dead with restarts didn't do the trick.
Any idea if there's any place I can send it to who has the smarts to jtag recover this thing?
Thanks.
me too
I did the same thing on a 32B. Rooted. loaded ROM Manager. Ran the recovery, I choose the Ion/MT3G option. tried to load CM6-FroyoRedux-v1.7-32b-blk.zip. Now it's stuck in the boot screen.

I don't think it's the same thing.
I rooted, loaded ROM Manager and installed the recovery. I was never even able to get into recovery in order to try to load any ROMs.
I have a Rogers magic, and its a 32a. One way to fix it is to go to the HTC website and punch in your serial number and download the rogers update. Only problem is that will make it a pain to root again. But should fix that reboot loop. But do that as a last resort to get the phone running again.

The phone does not identify itself to the computer, so this doesn't work.
The program should try to put the phone into fastboot mode, and install the upgrade. Have you tried pulling the battery and pressing the power button + back, once the battery is installed again?

Oh yes. I've gone crazy trying every key combination with every combination of taking battery out, plugging it in, USB cable attached, detached, etc.
The phone never identifies itself as a piece of hardware to the computer in the 5 seconds between reboots.
I had the same problem yesterday, and i was doing the same rooting with Universal Androot and flashing recovery witch Rom Manager (choose the same options). I tried to go into recovery and then it started to bootlooping the whole time.
I was pretty scared when that happens, can't open fastboot menu and the only thing that my phone was showing was HTC logo and a quick blink of clockwork sign over and over.
I don't know exactly how i managed to fix it, but it started to work when i quickly plug off baterry and i immiediatly plug it in (I was doing it at the exactly time when the phone reboots) while holding the power button.
Now my magic turns on, but recovery won't work (just flash for a moment, and reboots) and it always say at the beginning of booting system that SD card was removed which means i can't use any SD card.
I hope it somehow helped you.

I tried doing this quickly for about 5 minutes this morning but didn't get it to go anyway. I can try some more after work today.
When you say it booted after this battery pull thing, do you mean the phone booted right into Android, or you were able to get to hboot or fastboot?
Thanks.

I wasn't able to get hboot or fastboot. I pluged off and on the battery in the exact moment when the Logo came out after restarting. The logo was on the screen for the whole time, even while battery plugged off. I guess, i've done it so quickly that phone didn't switched off.
I think i was holding the power+home or power+back buttons all the time.
Can't really rember the exact way, sorry.

Try removing the SD card and booting if its not restarting due to the wrong radio too soon that may help.. if you get into android restore the SD card and run the exploid process I posted a bit back for rogers magics, or the older goldcard method.
I've played around with taking the battery out and putting it right back in at all different times during the booting and can't get the phone to behave any differently. Iv'e tried it with SD card in and SD card out, USB cable in and USB cable out. I can't get anywhere.
I did notice that the phone does show up as an Android device for a second when it's booting. Tried to catch it in adb but no luck.
Starting to think this thing is shot. Any other ideas?
Just so everyone can see what's happening, I recorded a video and uploaded it. Linked below:

try to hold and KEEP holding the back + power... Not volume down!
Don't push and release like you did in the video.

[Q] Need help with semi/soft brick!

So my Vibrant has been turning off randomly. I think its because of the loose battery or maybe it's just over-heating. But a few days ago, after turning it on there is only a black screen and lit capacitive buttons at the bottom.
It boots up normal, with the vibrant name, t-mobile animation, and the Galaxy S boot animation, then black screen! This started to happen after a few reboots, and now it won't rebbot properly, just black screen. It seems like I have to restore my phone, but the problem is I cannot get the phone into recovery or download mode! Please advise.

First of all, there's no such thing as semi brick, there's brick or not. Try installing your Rom again..
Dan0zone don't be rude man,.backup your apps, enter recovery more delete all user data, if after that you have the same problem restore, or keep trying to enter download mode, try different methods

Do this bro... just tested it myself, works fine...
get adb installed on your computer, should already have it if your rooting but if not get it, youll find it in the stickied thread for informative links in the development section.
get a cmd prompt open on your computer and type in
>adb devices
let it start up deamon and it will tell you device not found, its ok.
now type and have ready...
>adb reboot recovery (do NOT press enter yet)
start your phone like normal. before its even finished with the boot up tmobile animation and the galaxy s (but after the plain vibrant text/picture) logo press enter. if it says error: device not found then wait all the way till galaxy s only you did it too early...
screen will go black and reboot into standard recovery... hope to goodness you had a working clockwork recovery installed and nandroid ready for this next part...
go down using your volume keys and select reinstall packages using the power key
now in clockwork recovery go down to nandroid
now go to restore
go to your earliest back up and restore it.
there you go.
I would start fresh get odin set up and reinstall the original rom at this point as something may still be corrupted, reroot, install latest clockworkmod, latest vibrant 9 rom (im using and see no bugs and runs better then the vibrant 6 rom i had) and DONT install the lag fix until the newest "TRUE" lag fix comes out with the new file system and kernel that JAC is working on and has almost ready.
good luck and pm me if any of these steps need further explanation.

hes just stated man that he cant even get into recovery, my guess is hes locked out using the volume up/down keys like many new phones are (which btw is a known defect, spend 10min on the phone with tmobile doing thier trouble shooting to show them it doesnt work and they send you a replacement..) sooooo I gave him a way to get into recovery without the buttons and not having to wait till he gets to a black screen where possibly its frozen and he cant use adb commands.
I was just making mention to you also that he cant even back stuff up NOW (hopefully he already archived all his apps and data) and hes better off starting fresh since hes getting problems using his current rom/lagfix....
Thanks for the quick reply p()()pypants, but i will have to try your method later. It's late and I have class (college) tomorrow, but i will post my results soon. Thank you again.
Edit 1:
Btw, is there a way to back up my current rom? Like the way rom manager back up roms? I know my current rom works before so that's why I want to back it up.
Edit 2:
Actually i did not use adb to root my phone, just used the one click method. So can you please give me more detailed instructions on how to install/use adb?
Okay, I typed in "adb reboot recovery" and press enter as my phone booted up during the t-mobile animation and at the Galaxy S boot animation. Neither time work. Then I reentered it again after the black screen. That did not work either. CMD keeps on returning "error: device not found" and the phone stays on with the black screen.

Do you have the right drivers installed? You can check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929
Another very stupid question, just to cover all bases - your phone is plugged into the computer, correct? When you install the new drivers, try plugging the phone into a different USB port on the computer than you've been using, so it will hopefully pick up the new drivers without much extra effort.
If that doesn't help, just keep trying the command while the phone boots up. Maybe you'll get lucky and it will work. Sorry I don't have any real solution for you :\
I'm fairly sure I have the right drivers, otherwise I wouldn't be able to root in the first place. Yes, the phone is plugged in also. I'll try a different USB port and see what happens...
Update: Trying different USB ports does not help.

Sprint Hero Stuck at htc Boot Screen

Apologies in advance for my newbie-ism with the Hero/HTC android devices... I'm trying to get my father's Hero running for him.
The story is that a small amount of water was spilled on the phone and now it won't boot past the "htc" boot screen. My experience with phones + water is that either they dry out and they're fine or they refuse to ever boot at all ever again so I'm hoping the fact that I can get the boot screen at all is a good sign.
I've tried the home-back-end call clear storage and the volumedown-action-end call fastboot. Everything I've tried just gets me back to the htc boot screen. When I plug into USB a mass storage drive pops up in windows explorer but when I try to click into it it gives me the "please insert a disc" message.
The diagnostic screen at the top states:
"HERO XC
HBOOT-1.41.0000 (HERO20000)
MICROP-0110
TOUCH PANEL-fail
RADIO-1.04.01.01.21"
The touch panel fail message scares me, but is there any hope of getting this thing running again?
Thanks,
Kevin

Is the phone rooted? If so, try booting into recovery. May be a coincidence that water got to the phone and something with the phone's software got broken.
pull battery from phone, reinstall, then hold the volume down button and the power on button at the same time. hold until you see recovery screen pop up, this will work with or without root
The phone is 100% stock.
When I boot into the recovery mode (volume down + power on), I would hit the home button for "Recovery", correct? When I do that the phone restarts and goes back to the "htc" boot screen and hangs there.
Any ideas?
Holding the Volume down and powering on the phone will boot you into hboot. You can boot into recovery from hboot but you can boot directly to recovery as well. Hold the Home button and power on the device. However, to be honest I don't know if you can boot into recovery with a stock (unrooted) phone but it's worth a shot.
Looks like a direct boot into recovery is a no-go...
I downloaded the ROM update utility from the HTC website and was able to get the upgrade to load through FastBoot USB. The phone booted up and actually loaded past the boot screen into the Android setup screens, but the touch screen was completely non-responsive and every second or so an "acore" something or other error kept popping up. I wasn't able to get past the setup since I couldn't access the keyboard so I tried to restart and now I'm stuck at the (now updated) htc boot screen again.
It seems to me that the touch screen is fried and that the phone is probably no good... someone tell me if I'm wrong
Thanks for all of your help!
That's rotten luck. Hopefully you can get it fixed or replaced.

mytouch s-off in bootloader nothing else works..bricked?? fixable??

I had freezing issues, my mytouch 4g would just end a call and id have to take out the battery and restart it or it would freeze on a screen, even the start screen ans wouldnt do anything and id have to take out the battery and restart it. I tried deleting apps to make it stop doing this but nothing was working. I talked on my phone the other night and as soon as i hung up it froze, i tried restarting it and now all it will do is go to the mytouch 4g boot screen, but it wont boot up. usually it would flash that screen and go to the sceen with the green dot the wrote my in the center then reboot, but it wont go past the mytouch 4g screen.
I have tried holding the volume down button and set back to factory settinfs, but all that did was sit on the skateboarding androids screen until the battey died, I have tried this many times both with and without my sim and SD cards in.
I have tried recovery and my phone acts like its going to restart then flashes and phone with a red triangle and exclamation point on it and wont do anything, wont even come back on until i take the battery out and put it back in and turn it on again.
things to note: i am able to get into the bootloader screen via power and volume down but anything after that such as factory reset and recovery fails, i rooted the phone and it is S-off. I wont mind sending it back to tmobile but i need to get s-off in order to do so. I would do adb but i am unable to get into recovery so i cant. i also would flash the pd15img.zip but the phone while in hboot i keep getting failed pu on everything then nothing happens.
any help on possible solutions would be greatly appreciated. I dont even really need it working i just need s-off so even if it wont work i can send it back to tmobile. thanks in advance
if you are getting the 'fail pu' message your phone may be bricked. unfortunately there are a lot of other people that have experienced this. I'd send it back to t-mo anyway, they are aware that this problem exists.

Ok so I wont be charged anything by the insurance company although I rooted it last year. I don't want to send it in and then get a a crazy bill for
like $400 because they receive the phone and find out that it was rooted.
Hi, did you try and go to T-Mobile site and select your phone and download the OTA through their program in the support section. It will restore it. Then redo the downgrade if u don't have s-off

Stock phone, unable to boot under any mode

Hi all,
I have a stock mytouch 4g and yesterday it froze during an update. After rebooting it a few times to no avail, I did a factory reset and still got nothing, it just kept getting stuck on the beginning image.
I factory reset it without the SD card, and it booted (showed me the introductory video) but then as it was asking me to set-up my e-mail accnt it froze again, and that was pretty much it. I reset it every which way after that and got nothing but it getting stuck on the first image.
I also can't go into recovery mode, nor fastboot. On recovery mode, it shows me the alert red triangle sign with an exclamation point.
Please help?? (I refuse to believe my phone crapped out bc of an update! =[ )
Thank you kindly,
Nasja
You need to find the stock rom and place it on the root of your SD card and then boot into hboot and it should ask you if u want to install update then just wait for it to install and your phone should work fine again

I had the same type of thing happen to a phone I'm looking at for a friend.
He lent it to me because it wouldn't boot past the mytouch logo. It would boot into boot loader, but wouldn't allow us to select wipe data / factory reset. I tried to apply the update through the Bootloader like preciously mentioned, but it kept hanging and wouldn't load after 10 minutes or more.
I've noticed it's extremely delayed when it even runs the scan in Bootloader for new recovery and other updates. It probably takes about 45 seconds to do the scan.
Anybody have an idea what's causing this? I read in another thread that it may have been caused due to the phone overheating.
