Deskclock apk - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I put the Generation X stock enhanced v5 ROM on my phone yesterday and for some the deskclock app seems to be missing. Thought it might have been a bad download so I redownloaded it and hen I looked in the system folder it wasnt there. Am I looking in the wrong spot? I like being able to tap the flip clock and get to my alarm and what not. If anyone has the apk they can get me that would be awesome.
Thanks

A simple ?

I was able to find a signed APK for HTC Navipanel and install it onto the MTG3S and it works just like on my Nexus One with Desire ROM.
Wanted to try and install HTC Contacts app and widget, I'm not a fan of Tmobiles Fav widget and gallery, and can't seem to find a signed APK for it. If anyone can point me in the right direction for the APK or post it I would really appreciate it! Thank you!
This got me thinking anyone try installing android contact apps, like wysie's? I wonder if it would work, I know it wouldn't replace the stock app but at least we can have some organization and sane-ness back with contacts app.

New Google (Honeycomb) Test Versions Of Music, Gallery, Clock And Camera

techfrom10 got access to a test version of Market and downloaded some Google apps which apparently are test versions also.
Please see which apk works fine for you. As for me, only the camera is ok! LOL
What is working:
-Other users report Camera is OK (including me). FC when switching to video and viewing preview.
-Other users report Music is working fine for them.
-Clock widget is ok. Honeycomb style But only the widget. if you open it, FC!
*I checked the details of the apks: target version is 11, meaning those are for Honeycomb.
Maybe FCs are caused by missing or incompatible libraries.
Thanks to techfrom10!
im on dark v10 rc3 and i cant get clock, gallery, music to work. Camera and market work fine though, do i need to uninstall the old clock gallery and music to get it working?

Nope you do not need to. Somehow other apks work on other ROM versions of SGS. Mine which is running stock XXJVK only has camera working ok.
I hope others will test these and see which apks work for any ROM, may it be stock or custom, and maybe devs here could find out why it works or not.
Running Darkys 9.3 Music works fine, have not tested the others yet.
i got gingerbread.xxjvk, camera works until i change to video, everything else force closes.

Same as mine. As confirmed, these apps are for Honeycomb F/W only. It only goes to show that Google is about to release its proprietary apps for Honeycomb, with new Market interface
I'd be interested to know if there has been any updates to the Google News Weather widget app (genie.apk). I've got version 1.2.02 (RC2(PROD) according to the settings page in the widget, but i've had this since Eclair 2.1 and it was taken out of a Cyanogen ROM for the Nexus.
Now on 2.2.1 and the widget seems to still work, but sometime the offline caching doesn't work as well as it used to on 2.2.
Anyone got a new version of the genie.apk?

Apparently techfrom10 did not see or download it in the test Market. I think Google already abandoned that app as it is not even pre-installed on Nexus S.
Let us just hope that come Honeycomb release, a new better version of geniewidget will also come out. For now it is just MIA for that app.
none of them work on js8
i had music player and it worked fine on js8. and on xxjvk, the camera worked for me. no video, just photo.
thanks i will try...
Thanks for testing guys! I hope some devs could figure out how to fix or circumvent the FCs so we could use it on our phone
Though I am not that hopeful since the source code for those apps is not yet released. Besides any missing libraries, coming from Honeycomb, would be difficult to fix.
On stock JVK,
music, gallery, clock FC on open.
Camera FC when switching to video mode.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
We all have almost the same result. Let's wait then for the HC to come out before we can use these goodies
I'm on Goatrip (Jvk) with damiangto's ultimate kernel beta 5
And i've tried all of them but only camera works
The clock widget works but after every reboot it gives me FCs :/

Disable market autoupdate notifications ?

I am using the latest market (3.0.something, i believe).
It will not stop notifying me to update applications.
I do not want to update these applications.
There is no option to disable notifications like in the old market
I can also not find market autoupdate bulk toggle in the market
I would like to disable these notifications. How would I do so ?
I would like to know this as well. It keeps reminding me to update facebook but I dont like the new version and refuse to update to it.
i dont think there is a way of disabling the notification, you would just have to ignore it unfortunately !
@dkyle. whats wrong with the latest update of Facebook ? mines working fine !

batch toggle of Market autoupdates can be done with Titanium Backup - definitely in Pro verison, not sure about free - just go to Menu / More / Market Autoupdates
You can always use tasker so you never have to see the notifications
From something awesome
the older one... free i guess....
menu/settings/..booom....!

I just don't like the looks of it compared to the one before it. It seemed to work alright on mine but I don't like the way it looks like the mobile site now.

anyone ? Can't find anything else on the internet about this.
If you are running Market version 2.3.6 or under, the notifications can be disabled via Market --> Settings --> Notifications --> "Do not notify me".
I'm not sure about Market versions higher than this, as I do not want to deal with the latest market version layout. So you could roll-back or just re-sign the Facebook apk or whatever apk you don't want updated (Signapktic is a android app that would do this easy for you) and re-install it (you must uninstall the original before the resigned will install). The re-signed app won't show up in the market then.
The last option (again, tested on 2.3.6 and lower) is to manually edit the Market database file, under "/data/data/com.android.vending/databases/assets.db". All your installed apps will be listed under the "assests 10" table and you can remove them from there and push it back to your phone. The Facebook app or what app you delete from that file will not show up as installed in the Market anymore. The database will be regenerated whenever you clear the Market cache though.
Hope this helps,
-Mike
EDIT: Sorry for the redundancy, just re-read your post and saw that you are running the latest market and already looked at the settings. One of my other two options should fix the problem for ya though.

Maps no location from Wifi?

On my Nook Color, Google Maps was able to approximate a location from Wifi.
On the Kindle Fire, Google Maps gives some (empty) error message when I click on the "my location" button and nothing shows for my location.
Is there any way to fix that?
You need location servicices on the KF for that to work.
There is GPS Tether which is not quite the same thing but the person who first posted it, appeared to have another method to get the location info, and I suspect he figured out how to get location services (WiFi) to work. I don't think he has ever posted it though.
Not all WiFi routers or hotspots provide GPS location info though. My 4G Hotspot doesn't for example.
Not sure I follow: the nook color also has no gps but it always got art least an approximate location from wifi
The KF does not have location services installed. Without that, there is NO interface to get the data from.
I've never seen a Nook Color so i don't know what it can/can't do how it is modified etc...
The KF didn't include GPS or location services as it was designed. if someone gets it working (GPS tether does work), then it is an added bonus. otherwise you got what you paid for.
Any chance grabbing the network location files from another gingerbread Rom would do the trick?
Edit: Well it actually worked, didn’t think so at first but its working. I used Root explorer to grab the networklocation.apk from the CM7 Rom on my phone. Uploaded that the Google Search Bar and the Maps apk's to Dropbox. I put the network and Google search Bar in the Kindle systems app folder, changed the permissions to match the rest and rebooted. Got a weird popup why booting asking me to sign into my Google Account witch I have never seen but did and everything booted up normally. I then installed the Maps apk and when it loaded I skipped the turn on GPS settings popup and to my dismay the app had no idea where we were. I then opened the Google Search Widget I also grabbed hoping that applying a Go Launcher ICS theme would give me the cool clear ICS look but when I opened the app and skipped the import Gmail search history popup another popup popped up asking if I would like to turn on Google Location for better results or something like that so I chose accept and opened my Maps App to find my Google profile picture overtop of Philadelphia PA. I live in Philadelphia PA so this is a good thing. Went back to the Google Search App to be sure and Goggled Pizza and sure enough the recommended shops were local so I’m fairly certain it’s working.
Side note,
At the same time I did the above I tested a little Keyboard shortcut. Installed a few keyboard APK’s I also grabbed from my phones app folder and uploaded to Dropbox. After installing I copied and pasted the APK’s from the data/app folder, and pasted the APK’s in the system app folder and rebooted my Kindle. Once booted back up I used Root Explorer and reinstalled the keyboards from the APK’s copied to the system/app folder , selected done after each install and then opened up each keyboard for the first time by long pressing a text field and selected each keyboard. After I opened the keyboards in this way and set each ones settings to my preference I backed them up with Titanium using a label I named keyboards. So anyway the actual shortcut is that going forward after booting my Kindle I just run a restore using the label with Titanium and all the keyboards are working again until the next reboot in which another quick batch restore will need to be done, much easier then reinstalling individually after each boot. Works on Thumb, Swift, Smart and Go. Sorry didn’t think I had gone on this long about it.

Thanks for the apk, but I couldn't figure out how to install apktool on my mac. When I unpack the basic program, apktool.jar appears and then disappears and turns into a folder. Then the helper script for macosx can't even find apktool.jar.
Put networklocation.apk from the CM7 gapps into system/app with the proper permissions.
Tried rebooting.
No dice. Does not work.

What a useless post.
If you can't or won't help, don't post.
It does work. My location is the center blue dot in larger liighter blue one. Exactly positioned on KF. I just loaded GM 6.1.1 and did the reboots, passed on geo loc. and voila!

Did you install gmaps after installing the network location apk and did you do anything special?
I've tried everything and still I'm not getting network location activated.

Still does not work for me, either.
What I do remember and see is my KF - is rooted w/ the update-cm-7.2.0-RC0-blaze-KANG-signed rom, Also I have installed the build.prop by enkode in the "Kindle Fire Market MAWR OPEN!!!" thread to appear like a GT-P1000 to Android.Market for Fuller access. I have Flashed ICS touch-20 with success and Have 'bout 20 Backups saved to pc from Twrp. Ok, Noob with first Android. These 3.apk's I put in the sysem/app folder 1. NetworkLocation.apk , From gapps-gb-20110828-signed . 2. framework-res.apk, a modded one from another post about wifi location. 3. Google_Maps_6.1.1.apk. I set all the permissions on the 3 files to 755 . But I only installed the ONE "GoogMaps6.1.1", I did not install the other 2 .apk at all. Rebooted and saw Latitude, Gmaps, etc. Folders. Went to search stuff with GMaps, and all worked Did steps to reboot and skip geolocation etc like "chairshot215" OP wrote 1 page back. I take no respons. If undertaken. either. lol. Also undertaken by me ( b4 all this) is I installed Gr4-update-modacocustomrom and afterwards the Gr5 ver.one, so I may be on 6.2.2 beneath it all. Maybe this helped /not . But it works! Luv the street view app and using mic and saying Chicago, Illinois- directly map goes. Even works on ics .Hope it clears it up. somewhat.

Could you post your NetworkLocation.apk in /system/app when you are using Gr5 Docomo with your Gmaps 6.1.1

Yes, but for now I'm currently on cm7 and occasionally switching to ics. I'm actually nervous abut that Gr5 switch now considering it make jack this unit up.
For what it's worth here's the one I use now. From my gapps used in cm7 above. I think it overwrote when copied to system/apps , but like i said I did no install it.

[Q] How do I get the Gtalk icon to show on the Fire?

I side loaded GTalk and it works great, but like installing the Market there is no icon that shows up. I used MarketOpener to get a Market icon, but the only way I can get to Gtalk to by going into Titanium Backup and launching from there.
Anyone know if a way to get that icon to show up?

This is your first post?
o Are you rooted? Assumed but you really didn't say.
o What ROM are you using?
o If Stock are you using the Amazon Launcher?
Been visiting the forum since I got my Droid over a year ago, but yes that is my first post.
I am rooted with the stock amazon ROM and Amazon Launcher.
I've followed several guides in the Fire forum to root and install the gapps. Everything worked great. Like many others, the Google Market icon did not show up in the launcher but I used the MarketOpener app to put one on there. GTalk was not included in my gapps zip, and was not available in the Market (not sure why) so I side loaded from my Droid with CM7. I'm having the exact issue with GTalk that a lot of people have with installing the Market; there's is no icon for it.
I was just wondering if anyone had a work around to get the icon to show up?
Gtalk is not a market app, which is why you don't find it there.
You can load it, but the Kindle Launcher is somewhat limited in what it shows. That is why the Market Opener was created. There is no equivalent version of that for Gtalk.
If you use another launcher, you will have no problem seeing it as a normal app.
krelvinaz thanks.
Question:
I notice in your sig that you're using a custom ROM on your Fire, MoDaCo.
How do you like this and how is it vs something like CM7? I already have CW Recovery installed so I'm tempted to backup my current and try out MoDaCo. If I don't like it I guess I can revert back.
Any install 'gotchas' when installing MoDaCo or is it just moving the ROM to the SD and running it via recovery?
Thanks again.
GR6 is a pretty stock ROM that has some nice tweaks in it, like location services working, Amazon market (now Google play) sees it as a transformer instead of kindle, meaning more apps show up.
Installation is very easy, you don't even need to wipe.
I use the ADW launcher 99.9% of the time. I can do most Android apps and still use Amazon Prime video as well.
Been solid as a rock since I loaded it.
ICS doesn't impress me.
