Does this have gorilla glass? - Acer Iconia A500

Just wondering since most of the tablets out now have it.

Yes
Inviato dal mio HTC Desire usando Tapatalk

So what if it does? It CAN scratch quite easily (maybe bit harder than other glass but still easy enough) and it all depends how it falls for the "unbreakable" part of the gorilla glass myth. The fact is that you should take care for your gadgets and not rely on the advertisements. A simple, good screen protector will save you from scratches much more than some gorilla, bear, orca or whatever-they-call-it magical glass. And if you drop it, the only thing you can rely on is pure luck.
Bottom line - I should follow my advise and finally buy a screen protector for my a500

Screen protector always needs.

I drooped a glass gorilla on the floor and broke into a million pieces. BE NICE TO YOUR ICONIA.

how are the cheapy protectors on Ebay? Been fine for my phones

does it have gorilla glass?
according to cornings website it does
Nope no gorilla glass, Acer confirmed to me the other day that the screen is a Cinecrystal LED backlit, TFT LCD, tempered glass with fingerprint resistant coating.
I think it's the Iconia double screen laptop that has the gorilla glass.

Interesting, that's been updated since I last looked, also odd that acer wouldn't confirm that when I asked them.
Great news if it is Gorilla glass though!
def nice if so. Would like to know for sure so if or if not to get screen protector.
True story. Wrote Acer 4 separate times thus 4 different people vs. followups regarding the type of RAM in the A500. Terra 250 ventana is supposed to support DDR2 667, but many blogs and sites with FCC sourced specs say DDR3 so I wanted to confirm.
3 say DDR3, 1 says DDR2. What shall I believe?
Point/Morale? You get it, right?
Would be cool if G glass was in it. Says so on their website so I'm inclined to believe it.

Sorry, but this question has probably been answered on multiple other posts. I don't think people search anymore. You could have just used google, it would have taken you less time...
this topic is silly

All glass can be scratched
No it has Monkey Glass.

Corning has done a pretty good marketing job it seems, most people seem to think its unscratchable. Then they freak out when they find a scratch.

Scratches Easy should have Gorilla Glass

I really liked my TF300. It was a good price for the specs. But I really wish it had gorilla glass. I had mine no more than 2 weeks and it got a nice scratch right in the middle of the screen. I've had other tablets with Gorilla Glass and try as I might I never ever got a scratch on those. Does the TF300 have any type of coating on it to stop scratches? I'm really afraid to clean my screen much anymore because of getting scratches so easy. All I use is the cloth that came with it as well...
The first thing i did was applying a ultra clear screen protector for same reasons
However, i didn't have one on my One X
I use my shirt and have no issues. No scratches. Idk what you did...

I accidentally dropped my keys on the screen and thought for sure I would have a scratch but I was surprised when I didn't find any. It may not be Gorilla Glass but its still not that bad.

According to Asus it's not Gorilla Glass but it's "hardened glass".
I've had my tablet over a month now, not a single scratch on it. I haven't used any screen protectors or anything, just cleaned the screen every once in a while with the micro fiber it came with. Gotta say I'm really happy with the screen
I even took the tablet with me to my one week trip to Italy, but not a scratch there either

FFS, Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant, not scratch proof!
It really is a simple equation - if your screen comes into contact with an object that is harder than the surface of the glass, it will likely end up scratched (depending on the force and the direction it is applied in of course).
Gorilla Glass is not a panacea and should not be treated as such. However, it will protect your screen from scratches far better than it would if not equipped with Gorilla Glass.

Dave

If you are obsessive about your screen getting scratched then you should use a film to protect it, the glass on the note 2 looks to be song enough but I'm sure scratches are quite possible.

Guys guys guys.... IT DOESN'T HAVE GORILLA GLASS (Thats what Samsung says) I know Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. But Note 2 doesn't have it. Do u know why Samsung did somethig like this ?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using XDA Premium HD app
It does. The person at Samsung who said it didn't probably doesn't even know what gorilla glass is.
It has GG2, GG is more scratch resistant than normal glass of the same thickness but will still sratch - it is not scratch proof.
The fact that you have a scratch does not mean it isn't GG...
Gorilla glass's biggest problem is advertising...everyone thinks it makes the glass invincible for no reason. It's just stronger, and regularly glass is pretty weak, so...nowhere near invincible.
On a sidenote, how are screen protectors faring with S-pen and such? I saw a warning against using them, but will probably want one myself.

Where did Samsung say this? Every review site says it does have Gorilla Glass because those are the specs that Samsung provided to the reviewers.
It's time to put this to rest once and for all.
If you Google "Galaxy Note 2 Gorilla Glass", every site that did early reviews states that the Note 2 has Gorilla Glass. Why? Because those are the specs they got from Samsung, not just made up or speculated out of thin-air.
Secondly, THIS VIDEO that was posted on the previous page proves that the screen has Gorilla Glass. There's no possible way that you'd be able to press that hard on your screen with scissors or keys and have no scratches if Gorilla Glass was not present.
Thirdly, you're scratching a stylus on the screen all day for some people. The Note 2 will most definitely have Gorilla Glass for that reason alone, just like the Note 1 did, and almost every other modern Samsung (and touch-screen) device.
Finally, Wikipedia has a list of all devices that are known to have Gorilla Glass and the Note 2 is listed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_devices_with_Gorilla_Glass
So, let's stop this madness and disseminating misinformation until it's officially posted on a Samsung webpage that the Note 2 does not have Gorilla Glass. Every indication proves that it does.
mine has Dinosaur Glass
There are other manufactures that make similar glass too. It's not rocket science and the idea has been around and used since the 60's. They are just replacing sodium ions with larger potassium ions, the larger ions put the glass under tension making it harder. Kind of like pretensioned concrete. It will still scratch, sand with a little pressure will scratch it easily.
Every new samsung high end phone have gorilla glass1 or 2. At samsung service works a lot of silly people. One time I asked does s3 has micro sim or normal sim card slot and he said me- normal.....
When i called up to speak to someone at HTC about a few problems with the phone i use the now, i was in contact with 3 HTC employees and not one of them knew anything about the phone HTC sensation i had to get put through to the technical department before i finally spoken to someone that knew about the phone..
The email that you say you got from Samsung was probably written by someone who works for them and has no idea about the Note 2, as everyone has said the phone does come with GG2.
Christ my HTC Sensation and the girlfriend has the HTC One X both have GG and she still managed to put scratches on both phones. as people have said its scratch resistant not proof. My cousin has managed to put loads of scratches on her S3 and that has GG2, so it can be easily done. even thought the GG is supposed to make it harder but as anyone will tell you.... every phone they have had they have always managed to put scratches on the screen in some way.
I have one more question... Is it possible to scratch the screen while cleaning with cleaning cloth ? (The same cloth that we use to clean glasses)

If there is a bit of grit between the cloth and screen then yes its possible, some forms of grit can be so small that you may not be able to see it on the cloth or screen but yes its possible

Screen protector: yes or no?

Have heard a lot of conflicting advice respecting Gorilla Glass. Is there any agreement on whether we should use a screen protector or not?

There are several arguments in favor of using screen protectors as there are several things capable of scratching Gorilla Glass. Most notably sand. I get the feeling here that a lot of people plan on using some combination of either a screen protector on the front and back, or a screen protector on the front with some kind of TPU case.
I personally don't like screen protectors or cases. I don't like the way screen protectors make the phone feel, and cases generally make the phone too bulky for my liking. No less, I plan on going with one of the androidified cases by CruzerLite whenever they're released -- they're kind of like the case for people who hate cases. I'm willing to make this sacrifice to save myself from an indoor drop. In New Hampshire, all bets are off when you're outdoors.
After a year my RAZR has a single hairline scratch that's only noticeable if you really look for it. Never had a screen protector on it.
That being said I have seen many people who got scratches and on gorilla glass seemingly easily.

I strongly advise a protector. The new tempered glass protectors are really nice but they aren't available for this phone yet. I was totally okay using gorilla glass 1 (original) without a protector. I used my Sensation naked for months and it never got a single scratch. Not even a nick. I sold it in perfect condition. My nexus already has a few microscratches in it though. I have seen galaxy SIIIs with scratches in them too. Gorilla glass II just sucks. It may still be resistant to cracking and shattering, but it seems to have virtually no scratch protection anymore. When I get my warranty replacement, I'm definitely putting a screen protector on.

tbh I don't like anything on my phone, and most of us gonna use it for a year or two. so why not use her fully naked :cyclops:
choose your own, and risk your own.
Why bother asking others if there is no absolute answer?
I don't plan on using one until some tempered glass ones start coming out. I hate how normal screen protectors feel.

I highly doubt this. My nexus has been subjected to the same if not better conditions as my sensation and already has scratches whereas my sensation was even dropped on concrete and not a scratch. A simple Google search will show most people find the original gorilla glass to be more scratch resistant. Samsung Galaxy s2 vs s3 is a prime example.

gorilla glass my butt!

I dropped my Note2 on asphalt today and even though it had a anti scratch prorection on, the front glass broke! This sux. I thouught it would tolerate more beating then a single fall.

gorilla glass isn't shatterproof. It's resistant to perpendicular impacts, but hit it along the edge and it cracks like an eggshell.

So,

what is sad here ? I WATCH FOR MY PHONE VERY CAREFULLY.
nOT even once ( or maybe once or twice ) it was in my pocket with other stuffs like coins or keys. ž
I took out my folie, because I've burned it with cigarete, and I did't like it. So my phone was about three, or four weeks without screenprotector.
YET, I found little scratches on it.
CONFUSED .
I watched some movies on you tube, with Note 2, and S3, the guy was simultainesly hit screens of two devices WITH VERY BIG KNIFE.
Non scratches was found.
I cary the phone for three weeks, 2,3 hours per day, in emty pocket and YET GET SCRATCHES !!!

Dirt and sand in your pocket can scratch the glass. The glass is scratch resistant NOT scratch proof. Any glass will scratch under certain situations

if you the lcd and digitiser still function you can replace the top glass for just ~$20. You dont have to replace the entire assembly. Check this video out to know what i am talking about.

Let's see, even if english is not my mother tongue, I know the difference between SCRATCH and HIT.
As they told you, gorilla glass is SCRATCH resistant, so if it falls it has nothing to do, the difference is that is harder (not impossible) to get scratches with the normal use than other screens without it, and I can ASSURE you that it does its work.
I have some thin scratches at my screen after using the phone carefully for two months. Very disappointed.

Someone have hardener, and someone softener glass on his phone. I think this various from phone unit to phone unit.

To see it you have to look at a white screen, little "rainbows" appear.
