[Q] How loose is your swivel hinge? - Flipout and Charm General

Well its not exactly a hinge but, you know the swivel piece that allows the screen to "flip" out. Is your screen and keypad still perfectly parallel? does it all still line up? or is it cocked to the side, slightly off, over extended. If anyone else has or had this issue, any known fixes/prevention? just want to know so i can either fix it or make sure it doesn't get worse. I love my flipout and ill buy another one if this one breaks. if i got my new one, id like it to not share the same fate. So yea, is yours still perfectly lined up? Or is it over tilted? Do you know of a fix?

Mine flips in a tiny bit more than it should so it doesn't line up perfectly when shut. You wouldn't really notice unless you were looking for it though, and it doesn't seem to cause any problems.
---------- Post added at 05:37 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:34 PM ----------
...and the hinge is a little bit loose too, so when it's shut you can pull the screen a little bit away from the rest of it, but think it's always been like that and doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

Yea, i mean its a minor issue, but i mean i love my phone and wish it were still perfect, been racking my brain on figuring out a fix. Its not like i wont like the phone anymore is its a bit cocked, and i know im the only one who notices it, but still. If i figure out a fix, ill post it on these here forums.

To say the truth I avoid to flipout so much if its possible.. (using the on screen keyboard) I read somewhere that the mechanism is from steel so no worries (I do hope!!) and yes mine too, does not allign well when open

[Q] Typing on the keyboard while laying on my bed with the DZ in front/above my head?

Hey
Im wondering if, because of the hinge, can I put the HTC Desire Z in front of me, while I look upwards at the ceiling with me seeing what on the screen...
A (bad ) drawing example is included.
Some sites say that it cant be done but they havent tried it as I havent read anything with personal expirence with this issue and this is pretty important to me. Thanks.
I guess i don't understand. Are you saying that some are saying you shouldn't do this for some reason?
I am able to, but I know others who aren't.
it helps that when I hold my phone to type on the physical keyboard, my index fingers naturally wrap around the screen, which holds it in place... but even if I intentionally move my index fingers so that there is nothing hindering the screen from moving by itself, it does stay up. if I give the phone a slight wiggle, it will pop down though.
again, I believe with these phones it just varies from device to device... the hinge threads I've read have been all over the place.

LOL, man! One of the funniest posts I have ever seen. Even with that drawing.
To answer, though, I hardly manage to type like this, because the device tends to close. You can hold it with your thumbs, though.
I love your drawing, buddy

the accepted fix involves modifying the spring that opens/closes the hinge. there are several threads floating around with the process... note that it does void your warranty, however (you have to partially disassemble the phone). for me, the hinge hasn't been a huge nuisance anyway. yeah, it's loose... so what? you learn and adapt your "methods" to work around it as you use the phone. it has never caused a serious problem for me.
I would like to add that over time I have noticed it does loosen (noticably, but not so much that it has been a problem for me) more and more.. which makes sense because the spring is being compressed and relieved repeatedly.

Obviously, your needs arent the same as mine. You say "so what?" if the screen closes and Id like it to stay open.
Could you please post some links to those threads? Id like to see if the process is difficult.
Thanks
I rarely use the phone laying on my back, but when I do I move my hands a little bit higher on the keyboard and push my index fingers inwards toward each other slightly so that they are touching the device where the screen meets the keyboard. Holds it in place just fine, no need to modify the springs.

I think you misunderstood (I didn't word that very well - apologies). I'm not saying it's not an issue, it is an issue.
but, as I and a couple others have posted here, there is a remedy: positioning your index fingers such that they hold the screen if you are one of the unlucky ones who gets a hinge that is so sloppy that it falls at whim. on my G2, I don't even have to do this, but I do it naturally so it's added security that the screen isn't going to slam shut.
there's no such thing as a perfect phone. but as far as android phones with keyboards go, you're not going to do much better than the DZ/G2 at this point.. that is a fact.
here's a link to the best hinge fix thread I've gone through:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=863919
if you search "hinge" in the main G2/DZ subforum, you'll get a plethora of thread matches.

Intresting. Looks a bit complicated though but I guess Ill have to do it if I want to use the phone correctly the way I wanted.
Thank you
Just as a update: I can use my phone perfectly without applying any fix about using it for about 3-4 months. There is no issue at all.

Home button double clicking out of itself.

My homebutton will sometimes double click when I just click once, which makes the carkit menu come up. This will happen like once a day. Anyway to resolve this?
mine kept doing this, drove me mad!i just disabled the button altogether , job done lol
Is there a fix beside that?

I had the same issue. Seems like the home button isnt the best built like the iPhone.
I had mine replaced by a whole new front panel (Included a new screen as well, which was good since I had 1 dead pixel)
Best bet is to get it replaced.
how's the new screen treating you? I need to get mine replaced because of blotches and lines, =(

The new screen is working just fine (knock on wood). Although its not as bright as my original screen at the same brightness level setting. But thats a very small marginal difference.
My home button is still doing this. Should I return my phone to get it replaced?..
Just figured out that I still had the plastic on the home button never knew it was there before because it is really hard to see. I but I peeled it off and my home button is a lot better now. I suggest anyone else having problems and doesn't realize it is there to peel it off.

Mine does this every once in a while, not enough for it to be a real problem though. The thing that's more annoying is when my back button double backs. I have to be real careful with it.
it really annoys me that you can't disable this 'feature'. Forced me to root to get rid of it.

Hate Fingerprints? Here ya go

I might try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371535
I'll have to try that out.
I have done it, I have a bottle of rain-x at work and one at home. You have to apply it about once a day, and it makes it feel shiny new, but it does go away after a day. You would probably want to reapply it about twice a day. Works great though, doesn't eat the screen or anything like that.

I also posted about it as well earlier on this forum btw
I just use a clean cloth(for glasses) and works fine.
It helps a little bit, but not by much.

Yeah, the twice a day turned me off when i realized i can breathe on and wipe it less frequently.
having to apply it once or twice a day made it lose its appeal. are there any other alternatives?
I lost interest when he used 'their' for they're
I don't seem to have an issue with fingerprints. They get on there, but a quick rub on my shirt, and they are gone. I thought that these had a coating on them already that made them oleophobic.
Mine was fine too, but after awhile it either wore of or something. Right now, when the rainx wears off, they never want to come off ever. I have to rub and rub (yuk yuk) to get them off.
Nifty, thanks for the link

MXPE quality - MotoMaker vs. Amazon vs. BestBuy

So I have read here and elsewhere that some of the common complaints about the MXPE are battery doesn't last long, yellow tint on the screen, 808 running hot, laggy screen response, jerky scrolling, etc.. Not saying these are really issues, just saying these are some of the things I've read about here or elsewhere.
I'm curious if these things appear to be equally common across MotoMaker, Amazon, and BestBuy sourced phones or if, for example, Motomaker phones are more prone to these issues.
In other words, are the chances of getting an MXPE 'with issues' any different with one that was pulled off the line for MotoMaker customization than with one that came from a large batch of the same configuration intended for Amazon or BestBuy?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
From the experiences I've read it seems like early motomaker editions were more likely to have a faulty speaker. That's about it.
you have to remember that most people come to the forums to complain rather than to praise.
My MXPE is perfect!
MotoMaker phone here. None of the above mentioned problems, and the only annoyances I have aren't really worth crying over.
1. If Moto Display isn't active, when pressing the lock button to wake the phone, sometimes there's this blue-ish glitch thing going on near the bottom of the screen for a fraction of a second.
2. The motor that controls the vibrating feels lose? I don't even know if that's an actual problem or not, just not used to it compared to other phones. Vibration feels different.
Amazon 32gb here. My only issue is slight light bleed in one spot and the occasional studder when scrolling from Google now back to a home screen. My battery is a tank (really good life), the phone runs cool, screen color is great.
^I can echo all aspects from above. When it's a dark room how much light bleed is reasonable? It comes from the lower left side.
I don't care much for customizization from Moto.
Picked up the 16GB from BB today, and pretty happy with it so far.
Got a total of 4 phones from Amazon, 3 of them had yellow tint screen..
Phones are black 16gb x2 and black 32gb x2
Sent from my SM-T800 using XDA Free mobile app
Got mine from Moto Maker with a really crappy display panel. Had a light white spot in the upper right quadrant and about three areas where light bleed was visible. I think you will find this across the board. It doesn't do Motorola any good to assemble custom devices for people that are faulty. You would think they would have better quality control, but they are Chinese owned now, and that usually means bad things to come. I am getting a replacement but I will be interested to see how much better it will be. If it is much better then time will tell how well it holds up and lasts. If it turns out that it doesn't hold up very well then it will be the last device I buy from Motorola. It's too bad because they used to be very rock solid. The Droid Razr that I have that is 4+ years old has less light bleed than this new Moto X Pure. My Galaxy S4 has none whatsoever, of course it's AMOLED. We will see how the next device turns out. If it sucks too, I will report back.
Have the same light white spot on the right upper corner also i got it from BesBuy 16gb Black

There was no light white spot when i first got it , it become apparent after the 14 days past. So i couldn't even go and exchange. So im gonna try to call Motorola see what they can do.

Wow that doesn't bode well. My worry is that I want to unlock the boot loader and root. I can just see Motorola trying to say that the unlock has caused the issue and refuse my claim. I know unlocking voids your warranty but I have heard from a few that Motorola will still accept the claim if it is a physical failure not related to software. I just don't trust it. If they burn me then I will never buy Moto again. I just hope I get a solid replacement device with no white spots and minimal light bleed. I would like a perfect display but at this price, it might not be possible. it seems some are lucky enough to receive one free of light bleed, but I think many more have moderate to serious light bleed. To me that is poor quality control on the part of Motorola(Lenovo). Should have my replacement buy Thursday and I will report back on it's quality.
Its doesn't show good in the camera but in real life its bothering.
Here one more maybe it shows better, the first one i had from best buy had a black dust stuck in between the screen and the gorilla glass right in the middle of the screen like a black dust not dead pixel.
To me that looks like the lcd is being pinched is it in a case?
No its not in the case, I think its being pinched also maybe there is a screw right on that spot, but i dont wanna open the back to see.

Not sure if you want to deal with Motorola and RMA but you might be able to get another phone...I had the same problem but mine was easily solvable. It was the case causing it, and that's getting replaced.
I would suggest asking for someone higher when on the phone and also try the Motorola forum and see if you can get some help there
Amazon 32 Gb here, aside from somewhat of a rattly volume toggle, no problems so far.

Mine was exactly the same so I think whatever is in that spot is pressing against the screen. I immediately contacted Motorola and initiated an RMA which worked perfectly. They sent me the RMA within one hour and I received a code to build a new phone about 45 minutes after that. I ordered the new one the same day I RMA'd the faulty one. Calling Moto is a PITA, they are Indian and some have heavy accents which makes it hard to understand them. Their headsets absolutely suck, they sound way too loud and their voice just sounds like a bunch of noise. I have resorted to using the chat instead and that pisses me off less. In any case I can't complain about the RMA process, it has gone well so far. My new phone should be here Wednesday. We will see how that one looks. Hopefully something in their manufacturing hasn't gone wrong causing these phones to have that spot. There was a few others on Reddit reporting the same problem and it's always the upper right quadrant.
I think its gonna be the same, they all are the same way manufacturing, i was at best buy today and i saw the display model had the same thing on the same side upper right white spot. Im guessing maybe the wanted to put the nitrification light there lol?

Rainbow Effect on screen [Off topic thread, needs mod attention]

Hey, I recently purchased a Grand Prime. Rooting is one problem, but I don't need a lot of pressure to form a rainbow circle on the screen. When I'm not applying any pressure, when viewing the screen when it is off in direct sunlight, I can also see a rainbow circle. And no, I am not using any tempered glass, or a case. I have used those, but removed them when I noticed the issue. I can post pictures on request, but I really don't want to damage my phone further if you can understand me correctly. This does not feel normal. Does anyone else have the same issue? Also, when placing the case on, it it will be constant, and it will get worse if I place a tempered glass protecter on. Is it an air bubble between the screen and the LCD? If so, how do I repair this? I do not want to replace the device, as I have data on it, and Helium Backup is seriously painful to set up (half of the time it doesn't even work). Any ideas anyone?
Update: I meant to post this on another forum site. Sorry, I was half asleep at that time, please forgive me for posting a hardware issue in a software forum. Although I would appreciate it if someone helped. Mods, move this to off topic forum plz.

I understand that it can be replaced, however, is there a way to release any sort of air bubble trapped in the lcd? I removed the battery and started poking the battery compartment and I see some smaller rainbow circles where I am pressing. There is still some hope, right?
