[Q] Problem with Rooting my A500 - Acer Iconia A500

Attempted to root my device last night, followed all the instructions that were giving to me in the How to root thread. I opened Gingerbreak, no problems, I clicked root device, no problems, it said running exploit and just stayed on that screen for about 10-15 minutes without doing anything. What am I doing wrong? I followed all the steps given to me but im just not sure?

Get Iconia root.
Butt if you have.to ask this you might not want to root your device until you read the threads in the development section.
You could very well end up with a flat shiny brick
Good luck.Reading is power asking someone else to do your research is dangerous.

I've read through all the pages on the how to root your iconia tab, some people have had the same problem but said they just turn their system on and off and then it works, I did do that but with no success. I guess I shall just go back and have a bit more of a read of it.

Please Help Also
I have the same problem, and have had no luck finding the issue, if you fix your problem, please pass on the info.

Simple application to Root G1

Will we have a simple application like the ones for iPhones to Root our phones.
I am ashamed to say this but I have tried the steps here and nothing works on my phone.
I type in reboot and nothing happens.
Just a thought.
If you have allready installed the JF update, reboot will not work. r-e-b-o-o-t will only work on an unmodified RC29.
Not to call you stupid, but the instructions on this site for rooting your phone are fairly idiot proof. Please read and re-read all the information here, and all related threads and try again.
If you have read all the information here and still cannot understand how to do it, you most likely dont need root.

a tad bit harsh eh? wth..hmms try to be a tad more curtious sheesh
Ok, less harsh this time...
To the OP's question, kind-of. There is an auto updater for the JF releases in the works.
JesusFreke auto-updater in the works.
And for guides to rooting- honestly, there are plenty of "spoon feeding" guides out there, google around, use this forum's search feature, they are out there.
Here is some supplemental information for rooting-

How to downgrade from Rc33 (a question)
hey shooe can you still be able to root your phone? if not just send me a msg, I will try to help you out.

Downgraded from rooted 2.2 to 2.1 and cannot root anymore.

I've read over the forums quite a few times and am stumped. For some reason i cannot get rooted again after SBF flashing to 2.1. I've used the one click root program and while it says the root was successful, i go into adfree, titanium backup, and wifi tether and all tell me that i am not rooted. Super permissions doesn't seem to work either.
I've flashed my phone six times and have had the same results, so i was wondering if anyone else had this problem or could help me out. I just want to root and get back to 2.2 again, but i don't see why I'm having such difficulties when I've had success before in the past. I'm trying to give all the information i can, but there isn't really much to it. I followed all the steps in the HOW TO downgrade 2.2 to 2.1 link in this very forum.
If anyone can help me or tell me whats going on, I'd be in their debt forever.

Six times? Did you try the 7th????
http://alldroid.org/Default.aspx?tabid=40&g=posts&m=5164#5164
But anyways...did you try to root in manually instead of doing it with one click?
Ok the seventh time was in fact the charm. I just upgraded to 2.2 without root and then SBF flashed to 2.1 again and now when i root, it actually takes and adfree tells me im rooted and super permissions kicks in. I could just not figure out what was going on because it didn't make any sense. It still doesn't, but hey problem solved so i'm not gonna speculate. Anyways thanks for the time.

i turned on S now it wont let me turn it back on please help

hi guys i turned on s because iam sending this back to tmo. but i forgot to flash the stock recovery img and now i am attempting to root again with visionary. it says already rooted. but it wont give me permission. and the s is on. what do i do please help...
anyone...?
This is probably going to get moved to the Q & A forum before I can finish posting this.
I have yet to find an easier root process or an easier set of instructions to follow, than the following post...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834225
Please read that in its entirety. This is such an easy process that anyone who gets lost or messes it up, might not want to try it in the first place. I'm being as honest as possible, not trying to be insulting.
Ultimately, S=On is part of the un-root process, soooo, you're back at scratch. This means you would need to start back at the top of that post above and follow the instructions on how to root your phone/get S=Off.
Good luck!

i understand BUT when i run visionary it tells me already rooted.... but when i type in su it says permission denied....
We're going to need some additional details. You on 2.2.1? Have you restarted your phone since and tried again?
I'll spell it out for you - it really is dead-simple...
(***paraphrasing the OFFICIAL instructions in the thread I linked to above***)
- Enable USB Debugging
- Extract the root.rar in the original post - MAKE SURE YOU PAID ATTENTION AND NOTICED THERE IS A ROOT FOLDER WITHIN A ROOT FOLDER - a nested folder. You do NOT WANT THIS. You want just one /root folder on your sdcard, within it at the .sh scripts.
- Install VISIONary
- Attempt Temp Root
- Run Terminal emulator, type su and follow the instructions in the original post to execute the script - reboot.
- When your phone comes back up, run VISIONary again
- Attempt Temp Root
- Attempt Perm Root
There is really no way to mess this up. I have done this on 6 MT4G's, so if it's not working, you didn't follow the instructions - no doubt, no question. You don't need ADB - you can do this all from your phone with a file explorer (I use EStrongs) and a terminal emulator (I use Android Terminal Emulator).
I'm surprised this hasn't been moderated yet...

What do you mean it "tells you already rooted"? I am rooted and just running VISIONary - that is, launching VISIONary - it doesn't tell you anything. If you click Temproot now, is that when it shows that?
You know you have to first do Temproot and then do Permroot, right? From what I've seen, you can't "over root," so honestly, I highly recommend starting over again. If possible, I would literally type out each and every step you're taking. Maybe it will show us where you're messing up.
Try a different version of visionary... r11 is my preference

Good call. I thought about that as soon as I finished my last reply - i.e. check the VISIONary version.
I've been using r14 since my first MT4G and haven't had a single issue on any of the MT4G's I've used it on.
guys loook.... i am using r11 when i click root now.... it says already rooted i can access the clock work recover and everything but s is on and i dont have super user permission.... i turned the s on but now i cant turn it of. i dont have super user permission in terminal

So that means you used the unroot.rar file and the process outlined in the first post? That's how you got S back =On again?

So what was it? It would help if you posted your mistake, so maybe it can help someone else that runs into problems.

Problems rooting/rerooting

Hey. I recently purchased a Kindle Fire and rooted it without a problem. I had problems installing the Android Market as every time I open it and I try to sign up , it force closes.
This morning I woke up to find that superuser had disappeared. I wasn't sure if this meant that it was just superuser gone , or if my kindle been unrooted.
I tried to reroot using SuperOneClick it but every time I try , it gets stuck on step 7 . I have a feeling that it was somehow unrooted as when I try to reroot it , it doesn't give me the 'already rooted' prompt.
So... the questions. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way I can get superuser back? Is there any way (without terminal , or rootchecker) to see if my kindle is rooted?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
I think there are too many other threads about this already. try using search our just look at the top 10 or so threads.
The SuperOneClick is not the current rooting method.
Ah , sorry about that. I'll search harder in the future.
I wonder if it's possible for superoneclick to amend this with an update.
Really... you should do some reading before trying something like that. It will keep you out of the I don't know what I'm doing camp...
A vast majority of the people asking for help, didn't bother reading through the whole process, or bothering to see what other users had problems with in the very threads that talked about how to do it. Just doing a little reading alone would solve most of their problems as they keep asking the same thing over and over and over...
did u have the 6.2 or 6.1 update on there and when u woke up it was the 6.2.1 update on there? that could bethe prob as 6.2.1 update breaks root and super one click doesnt work anymore

[Q] Used motochopper for 9506

I thought that I could survive without registering, but the day did come. I have rooted successfully several phones but have not fiddled with Samsung before and was not so familiar with the models. I checked the phone model too busy and remembered wrong it to be i9505. Too bad i noticed the mistake after using the motochopper, when trying to find correct CWM. It was an i9506. The phone is working fine, but the su requires updating. I used root checker and not surprisingly "not rooted". After noticing my mistake I would not want to do anything before getting some advice. I have a linux and using of the odin is not possible, at least without visiting some of my friends. Too bad I could not find any help without posting. Can you please suggest how to proceed to prevent bricking and even eventually rooting the phone? If I manage to get access to windows, how hazardous is it to proceed from the beginning with the guides for i9506, after failing the rooting? What excatly is there going on at the moment, when super su is installed but does not have root?
Take a look this thread: HERE
Thanks for your reply! I checked the thread all way through. I think that the only solution is to try the basic method of the first post and see what happens. I should have done that in the first place. Luckily the phone has 4.2.2. without knox. I hope that the previous rooting attempt does not interfere somehow. I will visit my friend some day and report the result here.
I promised to report how things sorted out. Everything went smoothly with rooting as I followed the guide here , not a single issue. Although it would probably have worked with heimdall as well, I did not want risk anything and used windows computer of my friend. Thanks for Joku1981! Keep up the good work! Over and out.
