Hi,
Hope you will be able to help me, but i have finally managed to get CWM installed, and now i need a new ROM, can anyone help me in choosing a new Rom?
Thanks
Dan
Hey!
Visit the Desire HD Android Development section and check through the ROMs there.
No one is going to tell you what ROM to use. Since this is something that depends on personal preference, it's all up to you.
Look through the ROMs and compare them with one another, see which one appeals to you the most.
Here's some starting points:
Cyanogenmod & MIUI are two generally popular android ROMs.
Android Revolution HD is the most popular ROM for the Desire HD.
Good luck! Hope you find what you're looking for!
Thanks for the reply, i tried AR HD and found it quite laggy, but i didnt do the superwipe before hand, im now running Leedroid, which is good and quick (i superwiped before) not really a big fan of HTC Sense 3.0.
No problem!
ARHD was laggy only cause you didn't superwipe.
See, it comes down to personal preference, I prefer The Sense 3.0 interface, but you don't.
Glad you found what you were looking for though!
The new runnymede ROM is very nice but as you said you don't like sense 3.x. Glad you got sorted though.

For anyone else visiting this thread:
1. XDA rom section
2. List of HTC Desire HD roms
+ a few screenshots
I've been a fan of Coredroid for a while, but since they based the ROM on Sensation's base it's become quite laggy, though I still find it to be the most beautiful.
Now I'm on Revolution HD 6.1 and I'm very, very satisfied.
Personally I don't like no-sense roms at all. I just tried MIUI and CyanogenMod, but i soon took them off to get back to sense....
Thanks for all the replys.
Just to check, with ARHD, if i do superwipe, will it be alot quicker then Leedriod?
I've been using RAHD for about a few days now I did the superwipe before hand and it runs perfect. Never any lag.
I'd say it's the best Rom I've run so far and I've had quite a few.

Lee just released a beta of his official Sense 3.0 rom. Pretty quick and smooth, comparable to ARHD. It's still beta because he hasn't finished all the mods he usually does but it's perfectly fine for me.
Should also be able to flash the official version on top without a wipe since they will both be using the same base.

Sup dude, if you want suggestions you should give us an idea of what you're looking for first.
I'm currently using CM7 HyperDroid which suits me cos it's minimalistic, dark and fast. So if you like those things to, I definitely recommend it. Another good thing about this ROM is that you only need a 150mb CWM partition, which is good for us EU owners.
I've only tried one other ROM and that was UltimateDroid. It's another fast ROM (I'm pretty sure it's based off CM7) which has a lot of theme options. It's got a more stock feeling to it, but if you don't like the default green it's got red, blue etc.
I'd also suggest having a look at the MIUI ROMs too, I haven't tried one yet but they have some interesting features.
Hope this helps man.

Thx,
i need a sens rom, and it must be stable. and fast is always good
I've had no luck with Sense ROMs so far. Not fast enough for the added eye candy. Been a long time CM user and finally tried MIUI yesterday morning. OMG! Within two hours I became a diehard MIUI fanboy. Been hammering it ever since and it's blowing me away. More functionality than CM, same level of zippy performance, but much better eye candy. It have yet to find one thing I don't like and it keeps amazing me as I stumble upon new feature after new feature. I don't think I can go back to any other ROM now.

MIUI needs a 120mb CWM so it's low profile like CM. Both good for EU owners. Unlike that damn 400mb for Sense.

One of it's few lacking features... true. Always forget about that since I listen to mp3, podcasts, and internet radio. FM radio pretty much unnecessary here in the states with the other alternatives.
I'm also on miui but I installed launcher pro because I didn't like the iphone like launcher. you should try it. the roms are very smooth and fast. i'm using the ndt one and won't go back unless the gingersense roms are working without bugs.
sure but i think it won't work on gingerbread when none of the roms have included it.
and well, honeycomb has the highest build number but it's for tablets.... just use 2.3.4

+1 to both posts. Don't use the honeycomb version. The one in my sig is solid. No force closes yet and smooth. I run everything at once and no issues.
As mentioned above, hypderdroid cm7 is one i recommend as well, it is very fast. You will need cwm installed thought but its worth it. Here give it a try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=769026

Let me preface this by saying I am not trying to start a "What is the best ROM" thread. My question is simple. Of the many Android ROMs available for the HD2, which is the most optimized and stable Gingerbread ROM? Furthermore, is there some sort of CM7 port for the HD2?

Personally, I've used NDT MIUI for a quite some time, it's not for everyone I guess, but you could always use a different launcher. It's never given me problems, and it runs smooth as silk
Before MIUI I was a hyperdroid fanboy though, both are excellent roms

I'm sorry but I really didn't want people's personal preferences on ROM's. When I meant the most optimized Gingerbread ROM, I meant the most optimized ROM. Not talking about features, looks or anything else. Just the smoothest one that runs Gingerbread. I also apologize that I didn't look around the forums enough to find the CM7 port thread. I'm still learning my way around these forums and I have very little knowledge regarding these ROMs and such but I will do my best to look for relevant threads.

I base my own tests on how good gun bros runs on the roms i have tested and till now only NexusHd2- from tytung runs this game without any problems. All other roms failed. It may be that i am doing something wrong but is very unlikely.
I've tried CM7 nightlies and tytung's rom, both have issues last I checked (last week). Tytung build seemed great, but just had the phone app lockup/issue mid-call (perhaps it's fixed by now).
I settled on Tyween's TyphooN CM7 "nightly" build, and have had no issues at all since the install.

This is kinda like asking what do you prefer crunchy or creamy peanut butter...your bound to get many different responces. lol.
Check out this site. It lists almost all the nand android ROMs found here on XDA in a place thats much easier to find it.
AmeriCanAndroid is a great ROM and its updated often so thats always a good starting point. if your one that prefers HTC sense then maybe try out RAFDROID HD. i've personally found this ROM very fast and stable. If you like more of a iphone type feel then try a miui ROM out. i would suggest LADY MIUI or D4RK MIUI.
There really is no one best ROM, i think anyway. This is because everyone has their phone set up slightly different and also want different things on their cell. just try out a few ROMs intill you find something you want to stick with for a little bit of time and see how it goes. It took me several months to settle on a ROM because i always wanted to flash every new ROM that came out. lol.
I tried Miui, Sense and cynogen based roms; Miui has the best home applications like the camera app, phone app, etc. The fastest (real difference), with lots of tweaks and the best baterry for me is Dorimanx High end rom, although some of his builds are not stable because he is always updating his rom. Im using dorimanx rom right now, although im waiting to see if Hyperdroid is updated wich is another excellent rom.
Hello,
I tried BoyPPC ROMs and it's quite fast, stable and regularly updated so it seems well followed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1199917
But I agree with previous comments that it depends on your configuration and your needs. each one has pros and cons and you should just test the one that best fits to your needs.
Since Feb I'm using AmeriCanAndroid (well, cope's sd rom at that time, before he and warrenb started together AmeriCanAndroid). Haven't changed to anything else since then. Have switched to the nand version since 2-3 weeks and I'm happy with it.

I'm currently using my stock froyo ROM with sense, and using the nfinitymc4 kernel(which means I can overclock, this is the kernel you need if you are using a sense based ROM), I prefer this to CM, as I believe its easier to use, looks better and is as smooth performance as Cyanogen.

I'm also using just a stock 2.2 with sense. i tried a few others but with every installation the phone seemed to get slower and slower. I did it all right but meh... anyway mines just a stock 2.2, but rooted and i reckon it runs great (considering the hardware limitations that is....)
Ah. Well he won't be using any major apps
Hell be using WiFi at home and that's it aswell as other basic phone features (call, todo list/calendar) and maybe sms.
I just wanted it so he could push some more juice out the battery fully charged.
I'll stick to stock. Any modifications in order to improve performance on stock roms?
Sent from my Desire HD
I am the developer of SkEye ( I can't post URLs yet. Search on Android Market by that name). The app works fine on 99% of the phones but not on HTC Wildfire! On Wildfire stock ROM, the app receives a SEGFAULT and closes silently. This shouldn't happen for a Java application, and from the logs it appears to be a bug in the OpenGL implementation in the stock ROM.
I don't have a Wildfire phone myself; but I get lots of user reports by email and Market comments.
Since we are talking about the best ROMs, can you try my app on your ROM and see if you manage to not crash the app?
Here's the exact sequence of steps to reproduce the bug:
Set the location on first run. Approx location will do.
Click Menu -> Indirect Mode
Click Add new alignment
Select any object. Doesn't matter which.
Click "Return" or press the back key.
Search for any object (Menu -> Search or the Search button)
If the app doesn't crash after this, please let me know your ROM. I will recommend it to my users.
Thanks!
Does your app depend on the usage of a GPU? The Wildfire and the Tattoo are among the few phones that doesn't have it, so that could be the problem.

It does require OpenGL, but doesn't strictly require a GPU. The interesting thing is that the app doesn't crash outright. It crashes only after the above steps are executed. I will start a separate thread in the developer section when I get access to it. For now, I would like to know if its a ROM specific issue. Particularly, does the Cyanogen ROM have this bug or not.
It crashed here also, on latest CyanogenMod 7 nightly. The "called unimplemented OpenGL ES API" errors in the log are fairly common though, and happens with almost all apps using OpenGL, like games etc. They still work fine though.

This isn't a issue of cyanogenmod, its because an older version (gmaps 5) is running on the sense roms, you can deinstall on cyanogen the new version of gmaps and install the old 5.0 and its running like on a sense rom. So don't blame cyanogenmod ( the best mod for me so far), no offence to you but most of the complains about cm7 are about users don't know how to handle cm7.

I hate threads like this, each rom has its good points and also bad points too.....
Its all about preference try the different roms till you find one that suits you, its taken me nearly 3 months to make my mind up and trust me I've tested every rom. I don't believe in an out of the box rom as the customization of android is just unbelievable, every single rom can be tailored to your own needs, tweaked for extra performance and should be too, else what's the point in this community?
I've only been using android for around 5 months to its full potential and everyday I'm learning more and more ways to make my phone my own and as unique as I can make it.

I agree, but it's always good to get opinions so you know where to start. When I first started out on custom ROMs replies like "try them all" just aren't helpful.
Hi everyone, I apologize ahead of time if these questions are redundant and can be found in different forums. I recently received a MyTouch 4G from T-Mobile as a replacement for my wife's lost Samsung Galaxy S 4G and am trying to set up a stable system for her.
I've already downgraded, rooted, and installed a custom ROM (currently CM7 7.2.0 RC1) but wanted to ask a few questions.
1) ROM recommendation? Rock-Solid ROM with non-buggy WiFi calling is a must since we have poor reception at home. I imagine that a ROM based off of an official T-Mobile base for the Glacier would be best but I'm not sure.
1a) For such a ROM, is there a preferred standout kernel?
2) Is there any hope for ICS roms to gain solid WiFi Calling capability?
3) Out of curiosity, why are there so many ROM ports? Are they just as stable and functional as one specifically for the Glacier?
Thanks a lot for your answers! I know it's very subjective but I'm hoping to get some good feedback so I don't have to keep deleting her data as I try out different things
Virtuous Unity is an oldie but goodie and everything works. Use the kernel it comes with.
There is always hope for any feature. Wifi calling will work well on ICS eventually. Give it time.
There are many very good roms for other phones that port well. The MyTouch 4G has two "sister" phones that share the same SoC and port easily. Why build a whole new ROM when you can port? Also, keep in mind that a non-ported ROM has to be compiled from source which, for the most parrt, limits you to AOSP, AOKP and CyanogenMod. We have lots of that. Any sense ROM that isn't based off of a glacier/panache build is going to be a port, as well as MIUI.
Edit: I almost forgot. Android Revolution HD is right up there with VU in functionality and is still supported. There is a camcorder fc, but a fix can be found in the thread. Doubleshot cam and 720p setting, as I recall.

I used to have an HTC Sensation (which my 1-year old son tragically dropped into a cup of joe) and ARHD was definitely one of the most stable and popular ROMs.
However, because of his commitment to a stock experience I had to flash several add-ons to get desirable tweaks (battery%, ultra-smooth rosie, extended quick-settings, custom power-button settings).. are these also available for the Glacier version? (I read the thread and it seemed like the latest version does not have these yet?)
Thanks again!
ps. Is it best to keep the kernel that comes with it?
flash rc tweaks. There is a link in that thread somewhere. Also, that kernel is really good. If you don't like it you could try thederekjay's sense kernel, but I doubt you will need to change.
The ROM called LeeDroid is good too, I've been using it for several weeks, no problems.

Call me blasphemous but Sense feels a lot smoother than CM.. have you seen how smoothly the screen transitions ? It also looks more polished IMO.
Having said that, is there any way to adjust the haptic feedback level on ARHD? It's too strong for my liking.. tried to search but didn't turnip anything.
