I'm curious if anybody else had this problem...
I got my DesireZ a couple of weeks ago, with Android 2.2.1 Froyo factory installed. I played with it a lot, seetings-apps-tweaks and the works, but didn't get to the ringtones personalization part. 10-12 days ago, I updated to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread. After that, I fiddled with it till I got to the soundsets, and I downloaded a few of them, maybe 5 or 6. And then the troubles began. I can't apply any soundset, other than the HTC Default one. I select another (Flute, for instance), I apply it and the phone either uses it for 5-10 minutes then simply reverts to the default one, or it simply lists QuietlyBrilliant.mp3 as the ringtone for every sound (ringtone, alarm, notification for sms and email and so on). Some of the times, it sets as ringtone the files from the chosen soundset, but it doesn't find the sound file, and obviously doesn't play it when needed. Or worse, it sets random files as ringtone for different notification. It's hard to describe it behaviour, since it's so erratic.
Also, I can't positively know if this is a result from updating to Gingerbread, because I didn't change anything sound-wise before the update...
So I ask you: does anybody else have this problem? Is this a known bug, and hence, resolvable? Or does only my handset suffer from this? I searched this forum and browsed the net a bit in pursue of this, but haven't had any success so far.
Hmm i did the manual update and have not had any problems, but then again i did a wipe and restore first then updated.
Hm, didn't think about that. I just updated... I just ordered a Wildfire S for my girlfriend, it should arrive tomorrow or the day after. It comes with built-in Gingerbread... I'm curious how it will behave about this. Small chance to suffer the same bug, though...

From time to time I have a problem where all my audio plays at 2x speed (or something faster than normal.) It starts happening with no "apparent" cause. It applies to all sounds, so my ringtones will go faster, the voice command voice is faster, and MP3's as well. It happens without any over clocking, or with over clocking for that matter.
It goes away after a soft reset but is still quit annoying. Anyone else have this issue, or better yet, a fix for this issue?
Thanx; Lew
thats happend to me once or twice, however..i dont soft reset...i just stop all running programs and its fine
Thanx for the reply. That don't seam to fix it for me. hmmm...
Same problem Here?????
I have the same problem when playing files off the storage card. So far, only thing that fixes it is a soft reset. Closing all open app's didn't do it for me.
I'm noticing the same problem as well, although I wouldn't say it plays TWICE as fast. To my musician's ear, it's more in the range of a whole step, which is common when 44.1KHz files are played back at 48KHz. Maybe there's a connection? I'd love to find out what's causing this.
As with others, the only thing for me that cures it is a soft reset. This is annoying, because it screws up the pitches of DTMF.

Same here. You'd think that with such a high tech device and for the price, you'd get a device that at least played music correctly.
Is that too much to ask? I was going to ditch my iPod video and Nano and use my 8125 as my mp3 player but not with this annoying glitch.
You'd even expect the default ringtone to ring at the correct speed!
But NOOOO!
A.
mine did this to only thinkg i did was applied some tweaks using tweaks2k
not sure if that was what did it or not
Check to see if your ringtones are on the miniSD verses the phone in the rings directory. It did that on mine and then I erased the ring out of the SD card and put it in the windows/rings directory and then it didn't do that anymore. Try and see. It fixed it for me.
Mine are in those folders and it still does it. I have done registry tweaks and it does it. My friend has done nothing except install Agile 5.0 and his does it too, it has to be caused by using your own homemade ringtones.
Nope. I use a stock ring tone (Old Phone) and it still does it.
In a word I can tell you what causes this: BUG.
I figured out how to make mine play the sounds at normal speed. I just connect the stereo headset and disconnect.
Let me know if it works for you guys.
try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46000&highlight=sound+fix
Has anybody tried the solution in the link provided by Nice Pants? I am hesitant to make a registry tweak that nobody seems to know too much about.

I tried this registry fix and it didn't work. I believe the registry fix is used when your audio isn't working at all, not for this speed issue. I'm experiencing this speed issue as well. It's pretty annoying. Connecting and disconnecting the stereo headset solves the problem, but only temporarily.
You're right, I edited the registry using my directions, and after a soft reset my sound speed was back to normal, I came to realize after the same problem occured again, that it was actually the soft reset that was fixing it. I've only had this happen twice, and unfortunately I haven't been paying attention to what I was doing before it happened.
I currently have the summiter custom 2.17 ROM installed and I never had this problem with the stock cingular ROM. So... it's annoying, but I don't know if I have the patience to look through the registry for the fix, when this will probably be fixed by the "official" cingular ROM whenever it's released.
This is just another one of those issues that we as early adopters will probably have to live with (like the stupid battery icon, and no vibrate on push email).
I'll keep looking though, and if I eventually come up with a fix I will definitely post it here.
I am having this problem as well and posted a comment on Cingular's forum. This problem happened often on the stock ROM, but then seemed to go away when I upgraded to the 2.17 ROM. However, it has returned! It seems to happen randomly every day or two.
Initially (when I was using the stock ROM), I called Cingular's tech support and they forwarded me to HTC's tech support. The HTC guy was sort of rude and initially accused me of overclocking, which I hadn't done! He told me to soft-reset the device, which of course worked, then that was that. Incidently, I have tried overclocking since then and it does not affect audio playback speed. How about them apples? I am not overclocking anymore. I only did it as an experiment.
Also, this is my second device (I traded the first one in because of this issue). And based on the number of people that run into this, I believe the problem is fairly wide-spread, just most people don't pay as much attention to the audio as we do or perhaps reset their devices more often.
I wonder if a workaround can be created to exploit the solution of plugging and unplugging the headphones? Could somebody write an app that emulates the headphones being plugged in and unplugged? Or can somebody trap whatever messages the OS is sending around during that process and figure out which one "resets" the audio speed?
This is strange. I'm half wondering if it's a design flaw...
I hope this thread stays alive and somebody comes up with something. It is frustrating, despite being a "small" issue...
Personally I always have my headset in my pocket and just connect and disconnect, but I'd love to see this problem fixed. I have noticed on my device that the sound speeds up when EDGE disconnects and reconnects because I loose signal while using Agile. Does anyone have this problem and is not using Agile Messenger??
I don't even subscribe to EDGE services, I just use mine for the phone, text messaging, and wifi. And I notice that it started doing it about a week ago, in which i did a HARD reset. It of course went away, and i was thinking it might be some of the Tmobile addons in the extrom. but it seems that cingular is having same issue. I havent even bothered to call t-mobile because all im going to get is a rep who doesnt know anything. its not like they can write rom patches. I notice it came back the other day and i soft reset and it goes away. I want to let you know i've had this issue with a computer before. Someone a long time ago wrote an AC 97 sound driver for BeOS that i used on an old emachines. There was a bug in the driver that made audio play back 10% faster. It was completely software related so maybe someone in the board here who knows about the registry and drivers for this device could find a way to patch the bug.
I have a samsung vibrant, but my wife has the G2, so i haven't been following this forum too closely. I have a problem i'm hoping someone can shed some light on. I tried a search with no luck, so sorry if this has been discussed and/or fixed.
I rooted my wifes G2 for her a couple of months back and installed what ever release candidate was available for CM. After a while the phone had a few bugs that started rearing their ugly heads (as expected on an RC release). So when CM6.1 stable dropped I upgraded, but after a while the same bugs were still there and same with CM6.1.1.
The bugs that my wife and i have been noticing are the alarm doesn't vibrate when set to just vibrate, sometimes random notifications will sound but there will be no text or email (this mostly happens when playing slacker radio in the car), and sometimes the screen will become sporadically unresponsive when web browsing.
Has anyone else had these issues? I've tried doing all sorts of searches on google and here on xda but i haven't been able to find any thing about this. What should i do? full wipe? flash a different rom? trying to avoid that since its a huge pain in the ass to restore all her apps and texts.
Any help is appreciated. Sorry if this has been discussed, but i did try to search. also any suggestions on alternative roms would awesome as well. if it were my G2 i would have already tried them all. thanks!
Not sure if this will help but after I reformatted my micro SD card and copied all the data back to it, my G2 started making random sounds.
I went in and checked all the notification sounds and they were all set to default, I reassigned them the way they were before and that seemed to fix it...
Try it and see.
ok thanks. i'll give it a shot tonight. if that doesnt work i think i'll just do a full wipe and reflash...or try a different rom
thanks again for the response
Ok, so I've done some searching and I've found my problem is pretty widespread over a few different devices. However, it seems like no one has come up with a solution. My problem is this, SO a couple weeks ago I had the sync icon pop up in my notification bar. But then it didn't go away. I've tried looking on other forums for this solution but nothing yet. Thought I'd see if anyone here has the same problem and if possible, how to fix it. I can't help but think my battery life is suffering since it seems that since this started happening I notice the battery drain a bit faster than it used to.
I've tried several different possible solutions, except a reset. I loathe the idea of a reset, but if that's what I have to do then I will.
Running stock version. 2.2
Solution...
I decided to give up on my weeks long search for an answer online and called support today. Figured out it was the ooVoo application I had installed for video chat. It seems to keep your device in this perpetual sync mode even though you're not in that application. Once I deleted it the damned thing went away. My Tab, now with more battery power for Angry Birds.
Here are some issues I've noticed with Media on my phone.
It happens completely at random.
Occasionally I will attempt to play a video file, or an MP3 file using the built-in software. The device will say "unable to play this file type". If I completely shut-down the phone, restart it, then I am able to play the files again. Like I said, happens completely at random, but I will usually have to reboot at least once every 3 or 4 days to resolve this issue.
Also, sometimes and also completely random, my ringtones will simply stop working. I still get a notification on the notification bar, and NoLed still gives me a notification, but no sound. Again, I have to reboot the phone to correct the issue.
Any ideas? Anyone else experience this?
My phone is the Bell 19000M on the latest factory Bell Froyo build with no root or lagfix or anything non-standard. I also noticed this behaviour on the last Froyo build (the one just before Christmas the bricked the phone).
TIA!

I've done this several times, each time I don't even restore a backup, rather I manually drag and drop necessary files back onto the device, and manually re-install applications as necessary. But I appreciate the reply.
I can confirm these issues on a i9000 european uk with jvk gingerbread.

Dammit, that's not good news!
This happens maybe once a week or even more infrequently. I had the media not playing twice in 6 weeks and going out of video, closing with task manager and then back in fixed it.
I had the ringtone bug last week and going in to sound and checking which sound was selected showed the circular icon was blue, sound played ok when I selected it again. On froyo, sometimes I could not select any ringtone that was my own, the blue icon would not work.
This happens very infrequently but it is annoying having missed calls with no ringtone played to alert.
I still have the wifi stopping working in perfect reception at times too.

When this happens on my phone, I had tried going into Task Manager to end all active applications, and clear Level1 and Leve2 memory, but it didn't seem to make a difference for me. Only rebooting the phone did.
I am also experiencing this issue.
I am running stock AT&T Captivate.
I have google music, double twist, and mypod installed as well.
Note: I also notice a problem when I unplug power or headphones it sometimes starts playing music.
Folks, I had the same problem with the media files (video and audio)...occasionally had to reboot to play anything on the phone....scoured the internet and found an obscure reference to the official Twitter application causing this issue (was buried deep inside a forum post). It didn't make much sense to me, but I had the application installed, so I decided to take a shot anyway. My media playback problems disappeared after uninstalling it. Haven't had to reboot my phone even once for this problem ever since. Thinking back, my issues started right about the time that I installed the application.
Anyway, I'm no expert so can't guarantee that the source of your problem is the same, but that is what was definitely causing my problem. I switched to a different third party twitter app, and all has been good ever since.
Edit: Forgot to mention that I am also with Bell Mobility and have an unmodified SGS with the latest firmware available to Bell customers

Hi guys and girls,
Been using WP7 about a week now and one niggling little issue is doing my head in. Sorry if it has been mentioned before or is covered under some other issue, I did try a search and got nothing relating to it.
My issue; the clock on the phone keeps jumping to random times.
I am using YukiXDA latest build and could find nothing relating to this isue there either.
Would like to know if others have had this problem and what have they tried to remedy it?
Is it a ROM issue or is it a hardware issue?
Okay, An update
This is happening when I reboot the device.
Is there something in settings that I am missing, or is there a registry setting I can change?
do you have your "date & time" settings set automatically?
Yes

Yes time setting is automatic, even tried setting it in the registry.
It got that bad yesterday my phone reset itself to Jan 1980.
It sounds like the battery *may* be ****ed up, I have no idea about the htc hd2 (I've only had mine for a couple of months), but on my old phone(s), some of them have had that "time resetting" too, and the people at the tech support said the battery needed to be replaced.
Sorry for hijacking your thread:
I have a similar error with my phone (yukixda v4):
If I send myself a text message at say... 01:35... it's sent 01:35, but the one i recieve has the timestamp at 01:34... this is both with and without automatic time settings..
any ideas?

Truth is no matter what is causing this... TWO big issues for me when choosing a phone software set up.
The phone knows what freakin time and date itis
The phone nor the software on should destroy batteries
but thanks guys it really was fun to play with.
Don't use automatic, mine does the same if I set to automatic.
I thought it was something with Giffgaff as I would set automatic and the time would be right but later on during the day it would be some crazy time and date.
Set to manual and your clock will be fine
dunno about any of that but, i do know that if i boot in to MAGLDR is gets buggered up, doesnt matter if the time is manually set or auto set, it always buggers up, dont boot to it and all is good
, at least for me anyway
I'm having the same issues. Time and sometimes dates getting screwed up. Only started happening to me about a couple of weeks ago now. But it's frustrating at the least. I've switched mine to manual setting at the moment. Gonna see how it goes over the next week.
One thing though, it isn't happening to my wife's HD2. She is using the older version of WP7, I'm currently on Yuki's more recent NODO version...
as per my post above yours if you use magldr or even the bootloader it gets messed up, so dual booting droid may be a reason, or using bootloader / magldr to charge, other than that i dont have this issue
Not got dual-boot on my phone, neither do U boot to magldr to charge... But it's happening to my phone every few days so far. Today it was out by 28mins. I want to see if having it on manual time/date does any better...
i also have a problem with my hd2,
9 times out of 10 when i reboot the phone the time and date will be wrong with no pattern i can spot (started to do this out of the blue- no updates or new roms).
im currently running with a cooked win mo image and android on the sd card.
battery still has a respectable life although seems to run out quicker than it once did so i may purchase a new one. (the old one is just over 12 months old)
also my phone has started to freeze on pin request after receiving a text so im gonna try a new image too
if anyone else has seen problems like these and solved them drop a noobie a helping hand pleeeeaaasseeee....
It's not HD2 related
The same issue happens to me (phone jump approximately 36 hours foward randomly)
The phone was a LG Optimus 7 on official rom but never managed to fix this issue (automatic date or not)

I have the same issue! It happened some months after flashing xboxmods v. 1.11 Rom. It can't be a battery problem because I use 3 different batterys ^^
