Hello. I am having a large amount of difficulty rooting my phone. I hate these slow phones and I want to be able to overclock the CPU. Trouble is that I can't physically root the phone. Can anyone out there help me out?
And also, i thought that I would like to try CyanogenMod 7.0.3 for my Wildfire. I have the Clockwork Mod app to switch ROMs and a copy of the CyanogenMod ROM itself, but I don't know how to get the S-OFF on HBOOT to be able to flash it. Specs are below. Can someone help? Thanks in advance.
Android 2.2.1 Froyo
HBOOT version 1.01.0002

Refer this page:

Few more things:
- Try to get a latest nightly rather than 7.0.3. Its far better, and as stable as 7.0.3
- Do NOT (Repeat - NOT) forget to take a Nandroid backup in Clockworkmod just after getting S-OFF and Root (i.e. before installing Cyanogenmid) to prevent situations like these
Good Luck
Thanks. I'll see if this works

I've done a fair few flashes with my Desire and always found it quite easy to follow and do, but I am so, so, so confused about how to go about attacking the HTC Desire.
Essentially, I want to root it and install a custom ROM (maybe change a radio, that's it). However, there is no set of instructions in any one thread, it's all over the place.
So far, i've managed to permroot my brothers phone using Visionary. Now, the next step is getting Clockwork Recovery. However, there seems to be two version 2.x (installed by ROM manager) and version 3.x. Apparently the former doesn't work for CM7... but I cannot find how to actually get Clockwork 3.x installed (easily...).
What are the most popular DesireHD ROMs and do they all require Clockwork 3.x? Also, what is S-Off... and do I need it!?
Because standard Desire does not have nearly as tight security as DHD has. You need S-OFF to get clockworkmod, and if you want to flash CWM 3.x, you need ENG S-OFF. Only gingerbread roms need CWM 3.x.
S-OFF: Phone security off, internal memory becomes read/write, you can flash anything you want, no version checks etc.

Hmm... OK, I mean this is for my brother who is in no way technically inclined Perhaps we'll just leave it rooted for now and see if an automated tool appears for the Desire HD in the future
Cheers!
It does not get much more automated than my Radio S-OFF Tool / ENG S-OFF Tool..

I suppose so. So basically, the steps are:
Root phone - Done
S-Off/Eng S-Off
Install Clockwork Mod
Install ROM
The bit I find trouble with is how to do the clockwork mod bit. It seems like CM is the best DHD ROM, but that requires Clockwork Recovery 3.whatever and to get that installed you have to go through a ton of SDK stuff. Is there an easy way to get it installed?

Ah brilliant
You know if it'll work with Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.7 as that what comes with ROM Manager?

Simple answer, no.
Please try following the advice you are being given and search the development forum, if your not willing/able to devote the time to reading up on S-OFF and installing CM7 please leave well alone and save us all a little time
To be honest I think that dhd is quite easy to root. You have one click tool in stickies so really a monkey could do it.
I'm attempting to root my girlfriends galaxy s and it's really complicated. Download this download that check if you have 3button startup, get Odin and so on....
Desire HD is fun to root...

One Click-tool? For the latest update you have to downgrade, that looks not so easy?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Yeah, downgrading makes it a bit harder, true. But after downgrading it is a breeze.
Wating for a new tool or updated visionary?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Visionary will not do it, but I might make a tool to handle all those downgrade commands. I am busy now, however, so you should not wait for it.

I wouldn't hold your breathe, whilst there is a simple-ish downgrade route the chances of anyone going to the great effort of needlessly finding and exploiting a new security flaw are remote. Anyone desperate for root will probably take the downgrade route and anyone unable to grasp the steps involved would probably be better served by a stock rom
I'm looking forward for an automatic tool to downgrade...Jkoljo
I want to get rid of that irritating bootsound and have a new bootscreen...

Just use the manual method, I am busy, so it might take a while before I can start developing such tool..
I have time and I am afraid to do something wrong...

Tech support, without root access you are unlikely to do anything terminal to your DHD software wise, so that should limit your tech support to hardware issues. With root access ham fisted people are returning phones with user inflicted software problems
I've rooted my HTC Wildfire on 2.1 before, but since then it was sent away and a new model sent which has 2.2.1. I would like to try out Cyanogen Mod on it because I've heard it will improve the performance of my phone.
What is the easiest and most "novice friendly" way to installing Cyanogen Mod on this phone? Previously I used unrEVOked.

first is to get S-OFF by alpharevX.
Hello all. Let me first state what I've done first.
I had the new hboot so what I did was to use alpharevx and s-off first and installed CM 7.03. But I had some issues and some things that I did not like.
I don't want to list my issues. Anyhow, so what I wanted was to install the stock Rom/sense based custom ROMs. That I did. But whichever ROM I installed, including Wildpuzzle, DK and the stock, all missed HTC scenes and wallpapers. Not that I care much about them, but that brings the question, if these are missing, what else could be missing?
I've used CWR 2.x to flash these ROMs and I did all the wipes before installing them.
I've seen some others having this issue as well. Anybody has a workaround?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
No, seems to be some issue with AlphaRev X and Sense ROM's. Only OLD WildPuzzle is working, AFAIK.
@3xeno were could i find the old WildPuzzle rom?
Here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761927
Remember though, it's built on the CN Froyo ROM. Don't expect as polished an experience as on others.
Anyone knows what happened with wallpapers?
I don't think so, in my opinion it is still very unclear how an s-off bootloader can have an effect in copying files from a zip.
Perhaps someone that ancounters that problem can post a log from CWM?
it is alpharev hboot problem. revert back to stock hboot and make a factory data reset in settings/sd & phone storage menu.

Can you elaborate how? Many want to do this.
Can anyone who used xtc clip alone to S-OFF wildfire confirm some things (whether this issue is there or not).

Same thing happened to me... after s off with alpharev. is this problem solved yet?
Sent from my Wildfire using Tapatalk
I asked at #alpharevx that we at xda are having problems with HTC sense where once we unlock are wildfire with there hboot it stops the htc wallpapers and settings from working and wedgets form loading if hard reset and there awaser was i was talking bull s**t

Certainly not a kind answer....why... because i did downgrade to hboot 1.01.0001 and then installes ruu and... voila everything works... but s-off gone, also root binary... it wold be nicer they told you what thebproblem is, and why they renoved windows version beta...

I went S-off with first alpharev x beta. No problems at all, but I left my stock froyo rom. I noticed many people flashing coocked Roms encountered this issue. There is even a fix for this. Could it be something generated by custom roms?

Nope. Seems you are unaware of issue. The issue is small in my opinion. It is just after alpharevx s-off, formatting the phone will not load sense widgets and setup by default. But we can use then manually. Also HTC wallpapers and scenes will be missing. Wallpapers can be used if we have the picture files of them.
Just make a nandroid backup and format your phone to see it.
And I don't know whether it is due to alpharevx hboot or not. Because I don't know the technical aspects of it. And personally I don't think it is due to alpharevx hboot. If hboot has something to do with it, then why should be the old wildpuzzle Rom and Chinese froyo Rom HTCsetupwizzard.apk worked perfectly. And has anyone tried using setupwizzard.apk from any other official roms.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
I actually noticed this as well, as soon as I got S-OFF without changing anything, Sense just stopped working properly. Glad you reminded me of that as I was gonna go back to it because CM7 is proving to be unstable in the long run. I might just try another rom though.
Hello

The official update is for the end of this month?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
maybe released tomorrow during their conference
this an amazing update by HTC it really transforms the whole phone, their only one bug I could find which is the badly rendered friends stream widget, and one pixel misalignment in the music sound enhancement, but really amazing work from HTC the new gallery rendering is super clean and smooth, the new lockscreen is really something, i hope they pattened it before Apple steals it
It will remove ENG S-OFF, but it will not touch Radio S-OFF. If somebody wants to try that RUU, it is recommended to have Radio S-OFF because then it is easy to go back to another ROM.

Hello
would you please give me the download link of this rom
you can find it here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268384
Just today i had installed the leaked PD98IMG file of the 3.06.405.2 firmware.
Beforehand i had installed the official 2.50.405.1 RUU and then I installed the upgrade by the recovery.
Well, I was very surprised to find out it was rooted and it still had s-off.
Does anybdy know if installing this RUU I would lose root and s-off?
Sense 3.0? HTC are awesome if they're bringing this to the HD officially
So can I flash this on unrooted device
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I suppose so. Let us know of it works. I would gladly do it of not for the fact that I have already installed this ROM by PD98IMG through recovery.
I wonder if there are differences...
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA App
the only issue i have with it is that the picture on the RUU is of a tablet!? dont really fancy bricking my phone
i was more looking if this was easy way to upgrate /downgrade to gain root access. I really was scared to make the gold card etc...
So if some one had flashed the RUU wanted to see if that worked , especially when they were not rooted
I wanted to see if any one got pass the signature check, this failed for with Signature error.
