what's that voice??? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hello guys!
my friend has got a problem... this morning we were at school, and he had his phone in silent mode with data connection disabled... at a certain point, a stupid voice came out from his phone saying: "data connection disabled". it was quite loud and I don't know what could it be...have you got any ideas? remember, the phone was in silent mode and he didn't disable the data connection when the voice came out... thank you

The only time a voice ever came from my phone that wasn't a phone call - when I was applying voodoo lagfix.

I don't know in fact but this voice was one of the synthesized voices... but I don't know where it came from! hahahahahaha

Probably your friend installed any Kernel using Voodoo lagfix and it got rebooted inside his pocket... Then the Kernel converted the filesystems and the voice could have said: "Lagfix is now disabled" right before rebooting...

mmmm no, he didn't installed anything, and I clearly heard "data connection disabled"... I'm italian, I heard the equivalent of "data connection disabled" in italian... his phone is equipped with froyo 2.2.1, do you think if I flash a new ROM, maybe a gingerbread one, the problem could be solved?

Are you sure, that voice came from your phone nothing else???

yeah! from the phone! :O

Ignore, just re-read. Definately in Italian?

I remember hearing this in Google Navigation when you loose or disable data connection. There is a separate setting for navigation volume only inside the app. Who knows, maybe your friend used navigation and didn't close it properly. If you just hit BACK, this app keeps running in the background. Hope it helps.

SKYPE at last!!

Skype finally made it to Android and Legend in particular. Haven't tested it with voice calls yet. Now, maybe GTalk will follow?
I've tested it a bit and it even works on EDGE. I couldn't believe that myself but it does.
Link
Hmm... Just seeing the list of permissions it requires confirms I'll stay away from this one as I did from the PC version.
Oh well I lived without it so far without any problem, this won't change
edit: and for a 2.1 stock legend, that's also a pretty big app to install!

Gtalk is a stock app on Android. Or i'm missing your point?
Tested Skype for few mins, seems to work fine. Great sound quality, but... It's so heavyweight and there is no option to shut it down COMPLETELY. Lastly, my phone went offline (which newer happened before) so i just uninstalled it and already forgot. Bloatware.

It froze my phone twice, had to reboot several times... This release of Skype makes Legend unusable, at least my Legend.
skype.apk file
Can someone please post the Skype.apk file.
The Skype download for Android link doesn't work.
Thanks,

If you use Market Access, you can gain entry to it.
I did this and downloaded the app, however, i keeps crashing within seconds of me running it. Any idea why?
When I try to sign in, it instantly says try again later, seems like it doesn't even try to sign me in. Any earthlings having the same problem?
Works fine on my phone.

Skype works on my phone so far. However I do see a lot of comments that say the login fails after a while.
EDIT: Spoke too soon... Skype just crashed, and now I can't sign in either

just wondering how much data it uses?
Don't know about data yet, but it seems to be sucking quite a bit of battery though.

We are looking for "Shut that f**k off COMPLETELY" option, no just to sign out. Even when you are signed out it uses quite a lot of resources.

Problem with Chainfire3D and wifi

Hi guys.
First off,I have a problem with my wifi. When I am connected and have the screen turned off for some minutes,it's like I lose connection. The wifi is connected, but I have no internet and I have to turn wifi off and back on to be able to use my internet again.
Secondly,I have a problem(kind of) with chainfire3D.I choose a plugin and click fix market. However,I can see no extra apps. And what's worse I have bought Asphalt 6 from the market and I cannot install it!It won't show up no matter what I do!And it happens generally, not only with Asphalt. No additional stuff shows up on market.
I am on KE7 with KF1 CF-Root kernel if it matters.
Thanks guys,I hope someone can help.It ain't nice knowing I threw money away, don't you agree?

Sorry for insisting but my nerves aren't in the best state they could be.
Wifi problem seems to be gone with Cognition 1.0.4.Chainfire3D/market one persists though.

Which ROM are you running? More info on your set up? I am running MikG and under Sound Settings there is an option called "Flip for Speaker" which allows "your phone to activate the speaker during calls."
i guess your talking to me thats cool. found that link just incase you wanted to take a look at it.

Under a low light setting it obviously doesn't work.
Maybe it should set the screen as white to try to act as a light?
Also, no feature to use it in replacement for a lock screen

i tried this last weekend when i saw a similar post. it seemed to take 2-3 seconds, no matter how good the pic. but with a pattern/lock, i could have the app/device unlocked in >1sec. so it has a HUGE cool factor, but it takes more time than its worth IMHO
I played with this app, I found it works well, however, the implementation could use another option.
Right now you basically choose any apps you want to lock, and if you launch any of those apps you have to wait a few seconds for the face to get recognized and the program let you in, which is a pain in the ass, forcing you to wait a few seconds to open a program.
There is not option to unlock on phone wake, which is what the main feature of the program should be, IMHO, so that you can just unlock on waking the phone and be done, otherwise it's a bit of a headache waiting to be unlocked on per-app basis.
Mind you, once you unlock on any app you can be unlocked to use the other apps that use the face recognition to lock. Still being forced to wait on app launch, I do not like.

ya but if you uninstall the app and re-install you'll need their email and password to set the app back up if its google voice or a gmail account or something like that. Google voice would be the app i would want locked so nobody can see the messages i have... so if they uninstall and re-install they wont get my messages still without my info.. Good application

When you speak the microphone dosen't recognise sound and if it does then... I am more likely that my dog would understand what I said opposed to my phone.
I a quiet room
I say: test
Dog: Lays down
Phone types: Pizza and tampons bye dinner after smurf
Oddly enough, this little trick worked, now hopefully it stays working.
Thanks!!
It seemed to me that the mic was too sensitive. I found that if I put my finger over the mic then it worked fine...but that annoyed me so I went back to cm7
