Personal choice. EC05 is still molst people's choice. EE03 is another popular choice. I have tried them all and found the best speeds on EE03 and EH17. You have to try them for yourself and test for your unique phone and area.

I've found that EH17 has worked best for me; indoors 8/8 lock and GPS 2.6m accuracy. I can even connect to 4G; which I haven't been able to do since EB13 modem and finally cell strength has improved by a bar.
As with anything .. YMMV

I am using EG22 currently, the only problem is with the cell strength indicator. I am thinking about trying EH17.

See, this is what I don't understand. I have repeatedly been told that modem has no effect on 4G. Can anyone definitavely tell me if this is true or not please? Does the modem change signal strength? Does it effect 4G,Wifi?

It definitely has an effect on your 4g. Try flashing a modem in odin, and pull the cable. Thatll screw up ur baseband (modem). WiFi will work, 4g won't (or a 3g or SMS or calls). WiFi is a module in the rom (or kernel) if I remember right.

Well, when people run Speedtest and post results I feel its necessary to run it at least 15 or 20 times and average it out. I am still using EC05 modem and I average 5-6Mbps download speeds but I get bursts on some runs of 8+Mbps. I know that I personally haven't seen any marked improvement in average speed or signal strength myself. I like EC05 and EE03 the best because GPS works the best for me on those

Check your 4g modem version in wimax info in the wimax dm screen. It doesn't always match nor is it upgraded with every modem upgrade.

Back on DK28, yep, no joke.

Went from ec05 to eh17. Noticeable increase in speeds and signal for me....used to get max 300k downloads in speedtest...now I can get max a meg or so. Haven't tested it all over but it seems faster all around.
Gps does seem a little....slower maybe? I can still get good locks on 7 or more and it is usually very quick....but sometimes it seems to take a little longer then it used to on ec05. Just my opinion.
Running bonsai 4.1.3

[Q] Data Network Mode on Froyo: Safe to turn off?

I have experienced that with such apps that disable data (i.e. quick settings), they potentially ruin your CDMA data speeds. I had to re-odin my Epic to get data back to normal. Well now that we have froyo beta's out there, I noticed the option to disable data network mode. Is it safe to do so without ruining your data?
I've used that option on this new Froyo about a million times without issue. I don't think it would hurt our phones since it's baked in by Samsung and not our devs here. If you have issues with it I'd be interested to hear about them but I say try it out because I've have zero problems. I'll do another speedtest tomorrow when I'm home in Minneapolis. I'm currently at my parent's and 3g is spotty and slow here.
Ah. Ok will do. I forgot this was a leak from samsung's Hq
My CDMA data speed has been destroyed and I've been trying to figure out why. I haven't been around wifi for a couple days and haven't been able to download a new rom to flash to try it. Any fixes other than odin?

According to speedtest.net app, 13 kb/s. That's absolutely pathetic. I've seen faster dial up. I ran the test 3 times to be sure and I have 5 bars of reception. With wifi on it's 4+ mb/s.
Edit: flashed a new rom to see if that would fix it, and no luck. Looks like it's time for odin once I get access to a computer.

i use froyos 3g toggle all the time and i havent noticed a major difference. but i live up in the middle of nowhere in new hampshire and i'm experiencing faster 3G speeds and i only have 1 bar as of right now. just ran a speed test and got 102.4 kB/s. i would definitely say there's something wrong in your case, i just don't think it's the data toggle based on my own experience. However, I could be wrong.

Lose 3G and have to reboot

Anyone ever have this problem? Ideas to fix it?
What rom are you running? If its a i9k 2.2.1 build you need the signal reboot fix found in the vibrant development section.

I think the problem exists for KB1 based builds as well. Had the issue with Bionix 1.31, Trigger and Axura. Went back to Nero v5 and problem solved. Also, the wifi sleeps even when the option for never sleep is checked. I wonder if it's hardware specific and only affects some phones.
Sent from my frozen yogurt powered Vibrant
To clarify my previous post: I lost 3g and had to manually reboot to get it back. It didn't reboot on its own like the i9000 builds. I ran 3 different roms from 3 different devs and they all had similar issues. The only common denominator was they were KB1 based. KB1 roms also seem to have RIL issues (very infrequent). At least that was my experience.

I dont have this problem but do all the ROMS now say "H" instead of 3G? The weird things is, I still 3g pop back up there intermitently for a second or two here and there...from what I gather, H is the same thing, but if that's so, then why do I still see 3g pop back up there sometimes?

I had this problem on Trigger 2.7.1/overstock couldn't reestablish data through airplane or toggling data type. In since flashing 2.7.2 havent had it at all. Fingers crossed. No reboots either. Same kb1 modem.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Im going through something similar right now. Running Axura 2.3.1.0 with KB1 modem currently, was on CM7 with KA7 prior and had same issue. I have 0 3G, doing a speed test on 2G i get between 68 and 85kbps download speed, and when on 3G i get between 46 and 60kbps, so actually my 3G is basically dead. Went and got a 3G sim card from t-mobile, called them about 26 times and had them reset my network, filed a trouble ticket and still no dice... not sure whats going on. I was throttled and my cycle restarted on the 21st, its now the 24th and still seems like im throttled but im not, its actually a dead 3G, not sure why... anyone know what i can do to fix this? Is it a bad phone now? T-Mobile doesnt seem to have a clue, nor will they help me out... dunno, tried everything and now im just stuck with no speed... blows!!!

[Q] Poor Network Connection

I am using Syndicate Rom Frozen 1.1.0 and have been loving how fast it is. The only issue I have discovered is that the indicator at the top is showing 0 or 1 bar for 3g network. Therefor I have been missing about 75% of calls, and dropping more. I came from factory DI18 Eclair. I had to flash the rom twice to get it to work. Still no 3g service. (fyi...flashed yesterday)
Your phone probably doesn't like the EC05 modem. Flash the EB13 modem.

Better signal unrooted

I bought my ns4g about a week and a half ago coming from a tbolt on Verizon. I got it at 8pm and had it rooted by 9. I immediately installed cm7 and have been using every nightly. My signal was horrible. I had nothing at work and barely one at home. It also would barely hold a wifi signal even when laying the phone right next to my router. I've updated my profile and manually put prl 60679 on the phone and nothing improved. The only time I could get 3g was using the Verizon hybrid prl ( I don't have 4g here). I called sprint and updated the msi? And the lady said I was in great coverage at work and good at home. The signal was so bad in 4 ours of the phone sitting in my pocket doing nothing I lost 50% battery everyday. So this morning I unrooted to take the phone back to sprint for an exchange. I've been using it stock for about an hour and now wifi is good even outside my house and I get 2-3 bars most of the time. Is there any reason why this would be? I have owned about 90% of Verizon's android phones so I'm not new to this, I've just never seen this kind of difference between stock and rooted. I think I will wait and see if it stays like this or gets worse now and switch to the 3d if it is still bad. I switched to the nexus s because I love plain android, butit was so bad before I couldn't even make phone calls or send text unless I got lucky and it would connect.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
the only thing i know on the subject is i left my phone unrooted for a couple of days. never noticed a difference after rooting. seems to be many conflicting reports on signal issues when it comes to the nexus. i have generally lower signal (3g 4g wifi) than my evo. really hope its software related so i can get a fix.
Rooting doesn't affect the phone's radio.
Maybe the ROM was bad?
ive been watching my signal strength for a day and its usually around -86. my evo was always -90 or more
It could be the rom I just don't get it. I've never had a problem with cm7. I'm going to root and fund it stock rooted and see then maybe go with something else

damn i like soju 2.6 too. oh well stocks not bad either. i see theres 4 kernels to chose from and 2 are experimental
ok so i flashed my "out_of_the_box" back up and updated prl and profile and my status numbers are the same. i did notice tho that with soju 2.6 i was on evdo rev 0, and now back to stock im on rev A
now wtf? after i flashed a netarchy kernal (stable bfs 2.3.4) im on rev 0 again. what going on here?
Here's what I'm gauging my claim on. I live in a basement apartment so I get awful service anyway. But, on CM7 I can't make a call without it dropping, and mms is out of the question. On stock, I can almost always get through a call and mms sends no problem. I have an airave and its the same story on that. CM7 the mms just sits there with the icon spinning forever. Stock it sends almost instantly. I keep a backup of both and just switch between depending on what I'm doing.

My favorite quote "Engineers are educated beyond their intelligence." Ironically, I am in school for engineering
Now I have a problem. I rooted again and right now I am stock rooted. My signal is back to being bad again. So I can either remain stock or switch back to Verizon or go with 3vo. I came to sprint just for this phone so I can root and play. I don't know what to do. I have 18 days left until my 30 is up...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I rooted a couple days ago, haven't noticed much of a difference in signal strength practically... BUT my time without signal went from 1% to about 8% . Obviously battery life suffered somewhat.
Currently I'm on EvDO rev. A.
Will continue to post updates.
So I have switched to the hybrid 00001 prl for now and I get decent signal, eve get some at work. I figure if I'm going to switch tithe 3vo in a week I won't go over the 300mb roam limit. Its a shame too I like this phone, I just want something j can play with.

EF02 slower 3G and WIFI speeds

I have noticed that while using the EF02 ROM I am getting 2/3 slower download speeds while using 3G an 1/3 slower download speeds while using WIFI. I have odined the EF02 ROM multiple times to make sure it wasn't a glitch, I noticed this issue even worse on EE03. I have even re-odined back to EC05 to check against the EE03 and EF02 numbers and EC05 is definatly much faster for 3G and WIFI download speeds. I do notice that the phone feels much faster using EF02 but the download speeds do suffer. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

try ef10 modem by going to update firmware in about phone
I posted comparison results as well on an airave. EC05 modem was fastest out of all the Gingerbread modems.
That is a good point I forgot to mention that 3G speeds from my Airave also decreased wth EE03 and EF02 in comparision to EC05.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
It's the ROM, not the modem. I went back to FroYo w/ EF02 modem, and my speeds were back up to 100%. My 3G wasn't affected by EF02, but my WiFi was.
My question: is it the modems fault, or the roms?
I get slower wifi speeds too.
Sent from my SPH-D700
I have the same problem super slow 3g was under 100kbps on both the EF02 and EF10 modems. I got some better results (but still very slow) after resetting the RTSP proxy and ports. Hovering around 350kbps now. Has anyone tried running the EC05 modem with EF02FW? I wonder how that would work?
I updated my firmware to the EF10 modem and it is about 200-300 kbps slower than the EF03 modem on 3G and about 700 kbps slower on the Airave 3G signal. I pressed upgrade firmware again and it took me back to the EF02 modem. I went back and forth from EF02 and EF10 modems a few times do different tests and the EF02 is about 1/3 faster.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I tried running the EC05 modem in the EE03 ROM and it was just as slow as the EE03 modem; however, when I went back to the stock EC05 ROM my speeds shot up. It has to be the ROM but I am not an advanced enough Android user to figure out what part of the EE03 and EF02 ROMS that cause this issue.

You often post about your unique situation as if it is the standard. Just because something does or doesn't work on your phone, doesn't mean everyone else will experience the same results (I've seen you make declarations like this before in other threads).
I am still on Froyo (SRF 1.1.1) and I did notice decreased speed with both EF modems compared to EC05. So your assertion that it is the rom cannot be correct, because I am one (of many, I'm sure) counter example.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I've seen the exact opposite. My 3G speeds are finally tolerable with EF02 and EF10. I had abysmal 3G on DK28/EB13/EC05, usually around 100-200kbps at the absolute fastest (usually much much worse). So far EF02/EF10 has given me double that. EF10 modem ftw!
