i have jailbreak install on my omnia 7 , but want update but dunno i going lost jailbreak , it going be sim free or lock for some network , ty for help
I just got a Samsung Omnia 7, version 7004, I'd like to know if I can jailbreak it and update to official mango when it comes out, will I lose the jailbreak or what can I do? I've seen many threads but didn't really get it
i just asking it going be still sim free or lock some network and when official mango coming ?
yes, SIM lock is kept through update - and if you are SIM unlocked, the unlock will stay too.
ty so jailbreak is for some app only or ?

strangest thing, i confirm the update and it closes and thats it. It doesnt show a download in the status bar or anything. any ideas?
Mine still says it is already upto date even though I know the 2.3.3 update is out for almost everyone else?!?
FK1983 do you have an o2 branded phone? (with o2 crap installed on/o2 boot up screen?) If so then you are probably waiting for o2 to ok the actual update as well as installing all their extra crap onto 2.3.3 before they let you update
Same probably for magicriggs and anyone else that has not recieved their updates yet. The update you are seeing will be the generic 2.3.3 update you have to wait for verizon to ok the update first then customise it with all the crap/restrictions they want on it.

It doesn't matter which network the phone is on. If you got it direct from virgin or it has the virgin boot up screen then its virgin "branded". Until virgin or any other network decides to ok the update (and make any modifications they want) unfortunately you will be waiting. Unless you unlock your boot then you can flash the generic 2.3.3 that people with unbranded phones got.
P.s i said o2 since the o2 logo is under your name
Would that be the same case with me? I originally got my XP from my carrier but I had already network unlocked it with a code that I purchased from Theunlock.ca and de-branded it with a generic R800i UK firmware where mines was originally a R800a.

No this only applies to people with a branded phone and a locked bootloader. If you unlock your boot which you have done you can do as you did and flash the generic fw (without extra branded crap on just standard bloat) From now on you will just update using the fw posted here instead of waiting for rogers.
Cool, thanks for clearing that up a bit!
But I didn't unlock my bootloader, I can't because it came from my carrier. What I unlocked was the network and now I can use another SIM card from a different carrier on it if I wanted to. But I guess it's still the same since I was able to flash it with a generic fw already.
I had no issues with the updating itself.
But I noticed that the standard music player sometimes doesn't play sound at all. I first have to kill it with a program like 'Advanced Task Killer' and then it works again. Anyone else has this problem?
My Unlocked XP can download the update but fails on the install, its attempts to install, resets, unpacked update, then attempts to update (icon on screen goes from two dots and openbox icon, to three dots and phone with arrow above) then screen goes blank, phone boots as normal (takes about 2-3mins) then warns that update was unsuccessful after pincode entry.
Thought it might due to lack of internal space, so cleared 80 megs on application space and still no luck.

Bricked after OTA update
My husband's Xperia play got bricked today after an OTA update. It had no customized software, just an unlocked bootloader.
Looks like this issue it's just affecting those ones with an unlocked one.
I just checked for the update manually on my PLAY earlier today and it was able to find the update. But I'm not going to install it until you can root v2.3.3 on a locked bootloader.

If you unlock your bootloader you cannot use SEUS or OTA to update your phone anymore. You will have to flash the lastest fw onto the phone. See here to 2.3.3 firmware http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097591 also if you flash the first one you can then flash the rooted 2.3.3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1098736 Same goes for Da22a since your XP is unlocked
So still no way to root 2.3.3 on a locked bootloader yet, only with an unlocked bootloader at the moment? Because it's not possible for my to unlock my bootloader on my PLAY because it was originally from my carrier.

I see you're right and i wish i had my husband have a look here before even thinking about it.
The problem is: while SEUS prevents you from unintentionally doing that, which i regard as fair, OTA just bricks your phone without further notice.
We've taken it to SE for repair, which they should do for an amount of euros they still haven't notified us (you see, it's out of warranty). Easy money, then: tell people how to unlock their phones and then spread some code which bricks unlocked phones .
I don't think SE speculated in making money here. It's a more like a 'here you go' now you have control over your phone to do almost what you like. The main target here I think is devs and flashaholics and such. There's always a risk involved with unlocking your bl and changing the S-ON to S-Off and such things. Ofcause you loose your warranty otherwise every john/jane does would come back and reclaim a new device when they bricked there phone. This comes from a demand within the android community that this is an option.
Further more I don't think SE knew about this. The .img to flash is not comming from We but from this community so they can't be held responsible for putting out an OTA that bricks your phone cause of what people might flash onto there phones. I hope that they will make some kind of check in the software updater similar to SEUS in the future or the ones who make flasheble .imgs will be able to disable OTA in the .imgs to come or upload a new one for people to use.

Im not sure SE will repair your phone. I have read other people on here have sent it in for repair and got it back the same. Today a fix for bricked phones has come out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1126354. I would suggest getting your phone back from SE and fixing it yourself. Since the above thread's fix is free (you could always donate to Bin4ry & Blagus, dont know who else helped?)
I also agree with Dousans comments. Below a quote from http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/
Therefore, you should only unlock the boot loader of your phone if you are an advanced user with good knowledge of the technology and risks involved. We strongly recommend that standard users NOT unlock the boot loader, as it is not needed

Also not sure how long this has been posted on the site but se knows now and it working on a fix to stop it.
Note: We have seen in some forums that customers unlocking the boot loader on their phones have experienced problems when they accept a FOTA (Firmware upgrade Over The Air) update. The issue has been reproduced and we are working on a solution. For customers that have unlocked the boot loader please do not accept the Firmware upgrade OTA.

You and Dousan may be right but indeed after unlocking the BL we didn't flash it; moreover, after that the phone has been working perfectly for more than a month, since the ota update of course: so it's their software which has bricked the phone, not us.
Moreover, it's true that we lost our warranty, and it's fair that those Johns/Janes won't get a new phone for free, but this doesn't allow then to spread around dangerous software and allowing free repair only to "warranty" customers.
I've already had a look at the fix described in this forum but it didn't fit, Blagus told me there was no solution, the payservers were down so i took the Play to SE...
Anyone know how to get flashtool to recognize the play? The only options are arc x10 x8 etc.
Same as this guy:
how did you guys even get the flashtool to work with the play? ive got the latest version and i keep getting an error saying it cant identify my device and the only options are for x10, x10 mini, x10 mini pro, x8 and arc, just curious

Hey guys , I'm a new member to xda please don't mind if I'm asking this is the wrong form but I recently bought a Samsung focus from eBay it was unlocked (not factory unlocked)
....
As for the SGS 2 there is an app that finds the unlock code in your device
.....
So I was wondering if there is something like this to find the unlock code (of already unlocked Samsung Focus) in the device

No such thing, mate.
Your phone should stay unlocked as long as you don't lock it yourself in Diagnosis.
Q
So if it's unlocked with unlock code and not factory will it stay unlocked if I let's say update it to windows phone mango ??
yes even i would like to know this. after we update it to mango, will it still be unlocked or will get locked?
Folks, please use the search before asking.
I've answered it in too many threads already, for example here.
I have a verizon sm-900v note3
but I dont live in the states , it says my phone is unlocked when I start it
but I cant update it via the device it self
I cant use other features like hotspot
I was wondering if it is possible to use odein to update my phone to a non-verizon
version of android
and would that make the verizon specific features go away ?
If yes, how ?
Or is is it only possible to update it to verizon specific operating system
and I never updated my device, still running on 4.3
I apologies, but I am new to android in general and to smart phones
thank you

4.3
haven't updated the device to 4.4
You cant bootloader is locked. But you can maybe find some apps that workaround your issues you can try to see if xposed offers something to help. You may aso be able to install a custom rom on it if you can get root. You can also check app store maybe an app can solve some of you probems.

No...the Verizon version of the Note 3 will not take any other carrier's operating system.
The "unlocked" means SIM unlocked and you can use any carrier's SIM in it.

Thank you everybody in advance for the help you may provide.
Please could you help me to understand if i can fix my scl23?
This is the thing.
I got myself a KDI au gs5 scl23 with kitkat 4.4 and as i understand its rooted with a custon recovery, beacaus of the sim unlock, and the recovery its in japanese.
The phone works fine, but when i try to use it on ultra saving mode, its says that it`s samsung account isnt activated and doesnt allow me to change it(in the settings of the phone there isnt a way to change samsung account). So it bugs on that samsung account, and doesnt allow me to use internet and the keyboard when im on the ultra saving mode. By the way i live in Argentina and cant find anyone who speaks Japanese.
So, Trying to fix this samsung account problem i upgraded to lollipop 5.0, but it lock the phone and it doesnt get any antena signal, its says insert a sim, but there is no "no sim" mesage on the mesage board.
And now im dowloading the 4.4 firmaware files to downgrade it to 4.4 and to unlock it whith service menu commands.
Have anyone been able to unlock it with service menu on lollipop, or in any other way? Beacuase lollipop fixes the samsung account problem but olso locks the phone and installs custom AU rom, only in japanese or english laguage.
Thank you very much to everyone.
same here
This is the same thing that happened to me, did you manage to revert back and unlock the simlock on 5.0? Any luck upgrading to 5.0 and using your sim with the device.
cheers

Ended up downloading the 4.4 rom for phone again, installing that. Had to clear cache and do factory data clear to get phone booting again after downgrading. Then I was able to complete the Sim Unlock steps outlined here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/tutorial-unlock-sim-au-kddi-galaxy-s5-t2891992
Super frustrating using a phone like this, as it has so much bloatware from Japan which I just want to get rid of. But up and running now, with several replacement mods for keyboard, messenger etc
A lot of information out there, thank you internet and forums like this one for having so much information to get things working again. :victory:
Hi there,
I would love to buy a S5 Active in the U.S. an use it in Germany. Since it is looked to AT&T which we don't have in Germany, I want to root it.
For the past 2 days I did some research in this forum. It turned out that it's more complicated than I thought.
My English is not that good, so before I actually buy a phone I want to make sure that I understood everything... more or less.
So, if I get my hands on a phone with 4.4. or 5.0 on it, there is no problem to root it because there is no blocked bootloader, right?
I don't know though which ROM I should use in that case? Which one runs best on the S5 Active?
If the phone is running on 5.1. there is the problem with the locked bootloader, right? In that case I use this guide?
If I get a phone that is running on 6.0 or 6.1 I need to downgrade to 5.0 or 5.1 using this guide and the just do one of the two steps above accordingly?
Does that mean it doesn't matter if the phone I buy runs on 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, 6.0, or 6.1? Can I root in anyway?
Thanks heaps for your help!
Cheers Sam
you dont need to root it for international use. If its not bound to a contract with at&t anymore, then youd just need to contact at&t to have them unlock it for international use. if youre worried about the cost to call at&t, just get the textnow app, get a usa phone number and call them via the app over wifi for absolutely no cost. or, if your worried about your english being a barrier, go to idoneapps.com and they can unlock it for you for $35. I unlocked 2 G900P (sprint S5) with them.
Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
Well, I also though about just getting a unlocked one or to unlock a locked one. BUT then I have all those atnt Apps that I can't uninstall.
So I figured, the only way to get rid of them is to root the device right?
Cheers, Sam

youre correct, those specific apps do require root to remove. Then youd want something like Titanium backup to get that job done
I havent found anything so far that will show me how to root a G870A ACTIVE on 5.0 (OF3) all these links go to methods that show how to do it on a G900 (non active) if anyone can point me in a direction that would work i would much appreciate it.

i think the bootloader is still locked on that device. Not getting much love from devs either. Not sure there is a solution for this, sorry good sir
Well I received the SM-G780A today. It is not locked to AT&T anymore so I can actually use it without rooting it.
However the preloaded apps are just a pain. So I am thinking about rooting it anyway.
The Android Version is 5.0 and the Kernel Version 3.4.0-4443965. Do I understood it right that the bootloader is not locked in Androit 5.0 yet?
What's the best way to root it and is there any chance to get a rooted Android 6 running on it?
Cheers Sam
