Hey, I followed your instructions exactly, but in the end my phone only has texting capability, no calling or data. What's wrong?
Nevermind, I got it. It wasn't activating right, now everything works great! Awesome tutorial, thanks much!
Nice work, but I have two NooB questions:
1 will this work on a fascinate with a bad ESN, or blacklisted ESN on Verizon.
2. What is DFS "Download DFS you have to ativate the software though their site after you install it."
Thanks!

When you write the MEID from the ST phone to your Fascinate, it'll change the ESN too. DFS is the program you'll need to change the MEID, this video ( www[DOT]youtube[DOT]com/watch?v=bOC13wkGlvQ ) will show you how and you can get the software for $10 bucks from that guy.

How did u get it to work im having the same issue only being able to text but not call or web.
When mine was doing that, it was cuz it wasn't reaching the Verizon activation servers because I did it about 1230 am Central time, and their servers go down for maintenance then. Try it in the middle of the day. Also, are you using an MEID from a deactivated phone? It can't be activated until AFTER you write it to the Fascinate. And also, you need an Unlimited Plan, or it won't work right.

Straight Talk uses the Verizon network for CDMA phones. My coverage map says I should have no connection most of the places I am, because I'm out in the country, but I have yet to find somewhere I don't have a signal, and 3G as well. Only thing is, I got kinda careless with my 3G usage, and ST called to warn me if I kept using so much they would throttle or completely cut off my data. I used several GB of data before I got that call though.
Still having problems flashing
I followed all of the above instructions and have tried the whole process a few times. All I can do is send and receive text msgs. and receive calls. I cannot make calls or use data. Any help please?
Possible for sprint.?
Can this method be modified to be used on Sprints network? I have a epic 4g donor phone and unlimited plan
so i have a verizon samsung galaxy s sch-i500 and I have done everything here, but i still get a verizon error message..... do I have to pay for that DFS program inorder to get my phone unlocked? dfs said my phone is $35, but Im able to log into it with the app in demo mode and by selecting the proper comm port.. and I have the password for the phone.. but when I change the MEID or IMEI id with dfs or in service mode(**772) , it still shows up as the old MEID when i press*#06# ...?
what do i do? thanks
Warnold66: your phone didn't activate properly. Dial the activation number again.
Camrock: this method should work with any CDMA provider, dunno what Sprint is though.
Lazerman00769, I posted the URL to a YouTube video in one of my above posts. Follow that video, and you'll have no problems. That's how I did my phone.

Please help.. this sux
Do I need to just flash my phone to a new fireware & rom?
ok so now I know how to bypass the verizon activation, and did so.... ive rooted and superuser access... ive used DFS to change my MEID, I did the factory restore, ive used *22890 & * 22891.... and still I can only do texting and get calls.... no web or making calls?

Not to be skeptical but your post sounds suspiciously like one by another first time poster a few lines down that got flamed out.
If you're for real I believe Metro PCS is able to hook up the phone via its ESN which is behind the battery, assuming it isn't flagged. Go to a Metro PCS shop and try it, worst they could say is no. Otherwise you're SOL.
I think the mods need to do an IP check on this guy to see if it's multiple accounts..

lol no this is litterally the 1st time ive ever posted on this site. i dont like posting usually cause some 1 else already asked the same question
I would like to know this as well. I am using it my CDMA xperia play as a game device only. I have T Mobile and obviously the phone won't work on that network. If you wondering why, I got a great deal on the phone via Craigslist and it was a while ago when people were still unsure about the sim card slot on the rear of the device and I thought it might be worth a gamble if for some way we got the sim slot working and I could put my T-mo card in it and get service.
Back to the MetroPCS question. I've never activated a 3rd party CDMA phone on a carrier before. Is it as easy as calling metro customer service and giving them the make, model and ESN? I know for certain the phone is not activated on verizons network, it never was as long as I owned it. Does Vz need to "release" the phone from their network before it can be activated somewhere else?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm familiar with GSM tech, not so much with CDMA...
You are going to have to get metropc to do the flashing for you. They only do it in certain areas and I believe they check for dirty ESNs. Some places charge $40 but other people can charge you whatever they want since they are basically doing you a favor. Also you won't be able to access all of the things you are paying for like "Internet Access".
Also if they brick your phone while flashing, that is on you.
you must know a bit of knowledge to flash it to metro pcs
if you dont id suggest to take it to someone to flash it for you but goodluck not to many people are doing it
but if you wanna go at it yourself ill run you thru real quick
download and install cdma workshop and qpst
turn on usb debugging on your xperia
after that open up your phone dialer and type in ##3424 and hit call itll take u back to your home screen now hook up the phone to the computer and if ur using win 7 itll auto download the drivers etc
this will go you a diag port go into your device man on your computer and check what port its under crucial part
now fire up cdma work shop and connec to the port your xperia is on and read and then write 000000 as the spc code
now fire up qpst and inject your metro pcs prl file and mess witht he internet settings thru qpst
will make a full tutorial soon as i get a chance
you don't need to connect the xperia play to the computer or use any softwar to flash it all you need to do is download the metroPCS prl and you do that by filing on the phone *22804 that will connect u to metroPCS then you press 5 or option 5 that will download the metro roaming list which are the prls after that your done dile *228 and you will hear the metro pcs hello hello this also works for iPhone 4 on verizone
Still have to get the ESN added by physically going into a metropcs store that has the houdini software. You can't just sit home and jump to metropcs database lol.

By the way this don't work! I tried it on the xperia R800x that has been added already to the inventory. *228 gets an error and *22804 calls verizon. I tried multiple prls and changed network locations.
Is there anyone who has successfully activated VZ Sony Ericsson Xperia Play on Metropcs?
These are the steps I took:
1) I have unlocked the phone
2) Rooted the phone
3) Installed Metropcs PRL
4) Inventory Added to Database
Now when I dial *228 I I get a recording "The number or code you dial is incorrect"
Now when I dial *22804 I hear a beep like a pager.
Now when I dial *611 or 611 I am connected to verizon.
Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?

[Q] Repair tools

So I am digging the barrel on this but in short i used to be able to repair a meid using all the standard tools. For some reason now i have been getting errors trying to read. For this example i'll use cdma workshop. I used to be able to just send the spc and password and everything went smoothly. Now i can connect to the phone but it freezes the program when i try to read anything. The only thing that has changed is I upgraded my phone and my wifes phone to gingerbread.. What I need to know is simply does the upgrade from froyo to gb kill the ability to edit the phone info? Also just to be said this thread will NOT be used to talk about anything illegal like cloning or switching carries. There are many other threads on that. I just want to know if gb killed the common tools out there. Thanks. Oh and just before anyone suggests it yes the phone is in modem mode and debugging on. Thanks.

HTC EVO , sprint to boost might want to check this out!

So it might be a bit premature to celebrate but I believe ive found a much a simpler way to get your evo ( or any other CDMA phone) on boost. *this worked for me and would like to know if anyone else could try this to confirm it works as im out of phones.
what you need: Boost Donor phone. (not activated, new or Used)
htc evo, droid etc etc with alterations already performed( cant discuss what I mean by this but search google)
step 1) and this is the only step!!!! instead of activating your donor phone and getting NAM and nv files and aaa , keys and all that other garbage, just activate your EVO. once you activate it the keys and all other info is automatically sent to the evo upon hands free activation.
Thats it!
My guess is when new account is made keys etc are generated from meid and sent 1 time and 1 time only. as-long as its a "boost" phone it will automatically update all files.
again this has worked for me on my fiances phone and took about 10 mins once alterations were made to her evo.
Would others please try this to confirm it wasnt a fluke.
This seems like it should work, I've seen discussions before where some say it worked liked this and others said it didn't. So you're definitely not the first person to bring it up but I'm glad you posted a basic guide that others can try and report back.
My problem is I already have an EVO on Boost Mobile. I'd rather keep the same ESN/MEID as they're from my old TP2. I don't want to buy a donor phone to use those numbers but I don't think you can activate a new phone with an ESN that is already on your account.
Either way, great thread.
You still need to get NV items even with this method, there's no way around that, even if it says phone has been successfully activated, here's how to check, after phone has been successfully activated by hands free activation open up the dial pad and press ##33284# go down to data, it will tell you if your at 1xrtt or evdo A. Of course you want to be at evdo A. If it shows 1xrtt, which it will cause you haven't written the necessary NV items. You must go write your NV items..... On a side note that ##33284# is only going to work on a sense ROM, some custom roms won't let you access that, best to do it from a stock ROM, then flash your little heart
I guess that's what he means by "alterations already performed."

Virgin swap, Kyocera Jax to HTC Evo 4g

hey everyone, i think this is only my second post. Heres what im up to
have VM/Assurance Wireless on Kyocera Jax. Have and older HTC Evo i used on Sprint but hasnt been connected to their network for like a year
Im trying to swap out all the info so i can basically use the Evo instead of the Jax
I have cdma worshop, qxdp, etc
Problem is with getting the required info off of the donor phone, the Kyocera Jax. It seems that Virgin disables the usb data connection before shipping. You connect the phone with usb to a computer, and nothing happens. Device Manager doesnt even show a port. So like i said, it seems well known that Virgin disables their cheaper phones usb data connection
Ive tried unlocking the Kyocera by pressing 1111111, then hitting service. It asks for a password, most likely the spc/msl. However, people are saying these phones dont even have an spc/msl to avoid doing what im trying to do.
did write down a code from when i activated the phone, and it might be of use ##847446#
This allowed me to get into programming, but there was no option to allow data to the usb or anything else like that, it just shows me the MDN and MSID
The ##847446# code does not work when you hit 111111 and go to service when it asks for security code
It only works when you are dialing a number like you normally would
Whats the deal?
How can I activate the usb data port? What can i do to get info off the phone in order to switch over to the Evo if CDMA Workshop and Device Manager arent even showing any activity when the phone is connected via usb to the computer????
well i called Virgin trying to get an msl...they said they dont have them, that Kyocera has the msl. Went to the Kyocera site, it said to contact Virgin. Ugh. So nobody wants to give up the msl.
Virgin DOES disable the usb data connection on these phones. How do I enable it???
I cant really do this until i can get the info i need from the donor Kyocera phone...it has a usb connection but they disable it so you cant do **** like this i guess
I just want to use talk and text on my Evo by switchng the info from the Kyocera Virgin gave me with the Evo ,i do NOT care about data or 3g
still working on this one
I am not sure about Virgin but with Boost to get talk and text working you only need meid, mdn, and msid, then make the phone OTA program. As I said I do not know if it will work the same for Virgin as it does Boost but since they are on the same towers anyways I imagine not alot of settings should have to be changed. Hope this helps!
thanks mate! Well i have the mdn and msid...and i think the meid is actually on the battery...so i may just be in business!!! i think today is the day!!!
things arent going that well
the only thing i need for an OTA is the msl from my Evo. I cant connect the phone to CDMA workshop because there is something funky with the HTC DIAG driver install. I have the inf to make it show as htc usb modem but when i try to update the driver in order for CDMA workshop to work it says theres no devices that meet that software need
my other try to get the msl was with a terminal emulator. this process did not work either
im now going to try to root my phone, never rooted, not sure what will happen, and then i can run the msl reader application in the play store
Did you press ##3424# before trying to read evo with cdma ws?
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
This is really becoming a nightmare. I cant tell you how many things ive had to download just to be able to root my phone, which is what ive decided to do in order to get my msl...after im rooted i will be able to use the msl reader from the app store.
ive never thought about rooting before, and im wondering if im going to lose all my data, such as contacts, everything. Will I? Im using the htcdev method and it may be easy to some of you but i swear all i do is see more and more links to files or programs i need to have first.
all i want is my msl
Called Sprint 1 to 5 times today trying to get my msl from them...but since the account has been cancelled for like a year due to payment, for some reason are unable to see the msl
They were more than happy to ask for an address to which they could send the bill for 250 bucks though

i did not! i shall try. probably what stumped me. After that ill keep tinkering. Thanks for being there klown!
im also new to the board so when i hit multiquote i thought that was to quote you in a reply so i think i need to delete like 5 multiquote mishaps
i cant really explain, it all happened so fast....the reason my HTC DIAG drivers were not working is because i didnt try the x86 option. I am now succesfully connected to CDMA workshop. Now to find the msl!!!!!! i should be able to find it with CDMA WOrkshop right?
edit WTF it says 0000 for spc
and there is an option to set it on or off. which do i choose? also an option to write it...just make it all zeros?
and should i still do ota or should i use cdma workshop? or use the virgin thread method?
got the correct spc from CDMA workshop. Now, when I open QPST, it doesnt even show my phone. Typed ##3424# before connecting, then connecting to CDMA workshop first, then opening QPST, but QPST will simply not read/see my phone. Are there specific drivers for QPST?

no, just connect it to the port your phone is on.
if you don't know the port, then you can find it through device manager, or you can just try connecting to ports in cdma until you find the right port, and then add the port in qpst

thanks again for all the help mike and klown and everyone!!!!
oay heres where im at now...currently connected to cdma and have verified MEID and the "E something something" have been changed correctly!!!!!!!!!
now the question is, do i just unplug the phone and try to make a call? Reboot the phone? Save it all to a file and load that at startup or something?
Or is this pretty much it?
I have a feeling the meid and e something something will zero out again as soon as i disconnect from the computer.
Also, i followed all the steps properly...and was never prompted to enter any MDN or MSID data...so that data has not been applied. Does it need to be??
edi wait wait....my DIAG TX for e something something reads all zeroes, while the DIAG RX is correct. The RX and TX are the same for the meid
okay the big moment has arrived...just restarted it waiting to boot...and i found out i needed to # my msl then change the mdn and msid. fingers crossed
errr im getting an error 16
alright i get an error 16 when i call out, i guess is from Sprint? I cant have them reset anything because my account has been inactive for like a year.
i can receive calls oddly...the phone lights up for a second then goes dark....but the phone sure does tell me that i missed a call
just tried texting to the phone, nothing yet. I thought i could use sms but maybe the evo only uses mms???
Not sure if it is the same on VM as it is on Boost, but to fix the error 16, just log in to your acct online and look for an option to update handsets. Simply swap out handsets then swap right back, that is the quickest way to fix error 16 with Boost, maybe it will work with VM?

error 16 isn't a really big deal, it means that you had both phones on at the same time. What you should do is take the battery out of your kyocera and never turn it on again.
I got error 16 as well the first time I flashed, I had the phone turned off but with the battery still in it and got the error.
Error 16 is easy to fix follow this forum post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290906
Inside of that post will be a phone number to call to reach sprints "Error 16 Call Center" they'll ask you some questions about YOUR VIRGIN MOBILE INFORMATION, your account name, what kind of phone you have, yada yada yada. Just give them all your information, but only for your KYOCERA and VIRGIN account, don't mention that you flashed your phone or anything, just give them the info from your account and from your kyocera phone.
They'll get you working within, like, 20 seconds.
It's not like boost where you can fix it on the website.
Thanks for sharing your trial and error on this! I'm getting ready to try the same thing, except on a Samsung Galaxy SIII. I've got the Kyocera JAX that I'm pulling the information from but I would like to use the data functions as well (Assurance offers the Virgin Mobile unlimited everything for $30/mo, absolutely worth the money if it works). I rooted it first thing, then unlocked it and now I'm just trying to make sure I've got all of the info I need before I start making real changes on the Galaxy.
BTW - I've heard that Virgin does offer 4G data and I'd love to be able to access that since I won't be able to take advantage of the LTE capabilities of this really sweet piece of electronic indulgence. Any advice or information is gratefully accepted.
kyocera diag mode
get the msl from virgin. tell them you can reprogram your phone and if you cant your just thinking about changing to another carrier. if your a good customer they will give it up.
on the kyocera type ##3424# then enter your msl(spc) its 6 digits......
from there your phone will show usb/diag on off....
good luck trying to read it with anything. i tries a kona a coast and some other cheap phone and managed to get this far and connected etc but they will not read.
Good luck. if you figure something out let me know
