I've tried the new Netflix app, but no luck.
Anyone do any better?
What happens when you try? The app runs on my phone (abeit extremely slow), but doesn't want to play what I select. It shows it loading, then the screen blanks, and takes me back to the main menu.
Of course, the last thing I ever thought I'd want to play a movie on is my tired old G1.

Exactly the same behavior on my G1.
Mine just keep loading................. I can't even get to the login screen.
The G1 has a ARM Processor, and Netflix loves ARM Processors. But our Res is to low. Just how Youtube HD Videos don't work. I find no pratically use of the Netflix app outside knowing what's available on the go. I'm getting a MT4Gs, so ill enjoy Netflix on the Go then

...video playback is great. UI's a bit iffy, and the zoom (it does support multitouch) is in steps, but the killer feature is the video playback. Just tried some online content and it looked excellent - worth keeping just for that I think as an alternate browser.
yup, thats my point actually lol, just for the sake of the video playback...
someone please get me the apk =D
it's on the market now
ya i know its on the market if you read my previous post....
anyways i found where to download it =)

and if anyone wants a link to a great site with alot of movies and tv series then pm me =)
i just watched grey's anatomy on it, and tried to watch alien, =D works wonders all on my amazing HTC Desire wooohoo
I couldn't get nothing to play lol

skyfire 2 is brilliants. It is still beta so no true serverside flash rendering yet, but it works just like the default browser with multitouch and with compression tehnology. Loving it.
I tried this app for ages yesterday but could only get one site to actually play any flash videos which is kind of the point. The site was redtube purely for research purposes of course
Sites that wouldn't play include:
itv player
demand five
megavideo
quicksilverscreen
empflix
vho
Can someone post some good video sites that do work? This app has a lot of potential but at the moment it's not living up to it. It is in beta though and I hope it will improve over time.
It is a pretty good browser though with multi-touch. Another nice feature is one button "connect as" - you can choose Desktop, iphone or Android which can load a mobile version of a site (or not)
purely a personal feeling, but I think the stock browser is way better, for what matters miles ahead of every other phone I've tried.
still, a lot of options is always an excellent thing...
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
yes the stock is way better, just that it cant play flash video like skyfire period..
i tested megavideo, it works 1 out of 10times.....dont know why.......
there are other websites that are working and i watch a full movie of alien on it streaming on a website...=)
I might have been lucky, flash worked 9 out of ten times on stock browser for me. good to know I can rely on skyfire when problems happen however.
my 'mistrust' for skyfire comes from trying to use the last version on WinMo and finding it really slow compared to old versions. sort of different on modern devices...

Me too even the BBC site loads the video but you cannot click on the play button it just sits there at the first screen or am I doing something wrong
Flash didn't work at all for me on Skyfire. Pinch to zoom was terrible aswell, it has this weird "acceleration" which means it zooms for half a second after you stop moving your fingers which I hated. I uninstalled it for now as the stock browser seems far better.
i am playing flash videos that i can't play on the stock browser....skyfire works great for me...
maybe all the years of helping old ppl crossing the road finally pays off, i am getting a good return...
So, here I am, owning a phone that has an OS designed by google, trying to click on links for youtube videos "also owned by google" and I get (This video is not available on mobile)
WTF google. I know that I can choose to "open in browser" and wish me luck trying to fullscreen it.
why is the native youtube for android so limited? Half of the new, popular videos are unwatchable.
is there a way around this?
I have the same exact problem and I think it sucks too. You would think since they own Youtube there would be awesome integration via the mobile site or the application but I have found they absolutely suck on both accounts. I either get the "video not available" error, or it just takes FOREVER to load on the application (which it didn't at all on my TP2). Jeez...
works fine for me, both as flash on the site and linking to the youtube app
I believe it has something to do with licensing maybe? I am going to go out on a limb and say it was a music video or something? If so, the only logical thing I can think of is that they do that so you aren't tempted to just keep replying the song instead of buying it?

its not music videos... most of the video links that go to youtube on reddit seem to not work in the native app...
its just frustrating cause the youtube app works so well. Hopefully they will fix that.

have you tried the "hex edited flash" ?
I don't think it is that... some videos are just not meant for the app...
The thing that sucks is that it clears cache EVERY time you scroll back in a youtube video.
That needs to get fixed ASAP. Such an obvious flaw. I can't even watch a video in the app anymore. I use the browser, which the controls suck on as well.
It's copyrighted videos only...

That may be, but if I watch it on my desktop or phone makes no difference if it available to watch for free on YouTube.

I used to get those messages ALL the time, but after updating the app in the market, I've never gotten it again. Like go into the market, and download youtube.
Do the videos that you can't watch on mobile have ads before the actual video on desktop? I'm guessing some of the stuff is copyright material and are ad-driven. The mobile app doesn't display ads so maybe thats why it doesn't show.
And yea, it does suck, but i kinda understand how it would be this way. If they started showing ads to make the videos available on mobile, then people without "unlimited" data plans like new iphone users on the new ATT plans will complain that its eating up additional data, and a whole different round of complaints will go around.
Can't please everyone all the time.
Then they should just say it's due to ads. Or add a little confirmation box: "You must view an ad before you can see this video. This may cause you to incur extra data usage charges. Do you wish to continue?".
I somehow suspect it's due to some licensing crap, though. The MAFIAA don't want to accept that everything's a computer these days.
its not due to any ads. mobile viewing vs. desktop computer based viewing carry different licenses for content. there is nothing wrong with the app in regards to this.
when you upload videos there is an option to make that content available on mobile devices....
It depends on the video, and your internet connection.
I've found that if you retry to play a video, sometimes the 3G doesn't connect fast enough or load up enough of the video in time that the app likes, and it just spits out that generic message. You will probably have better luck on 4G or WiFi.
Also, some music videos and some other videos are restricted due to licensing issues. Majory being music videos though.
Just open it in the browser and hold your finger on the video for a second. You should see two boxes show up, one will make it full screen. I rarely even use the app any more because it's quicker for me to just pull up the page.
Same here, the page seems to just work better than the app. Hate the fact that forward/rewind wipes the cache, very annoying.
A dumb question. But I was wondering if anyone had any issue with playing flash games like the zynga ones on facebook? I only ask because when I had the evo I was able to play, but on my epic it is able to load the game up rather very slowly but once I go to interact with the game itself I get a white screen with the play button showing. But if I press play it just starts all over again.
I am on the acs dk28 froyo now and it works pretty good so far except for the online games. Still trying to test th gps but is freezing out lol.
I hope there is a way to get it to work, I know it might be trivial but it kills the boredom

did NUMEROUS tests....and got the following results
xoom --hdmi--hdtv =
---great performance on NON maximized youtube videos both HQ and non HQ
---good performance on maximized LOWQUALITY video (HQ OFF..which is absolutely disgusting to see though)
---SEVEREEEE problems with HQ ON on FULL size (either sound is of and video is retarded or says PROBLEM PLAYING VIDEO, TAP TO RESTART
Suggestions??
I'm finding that the youtube app as a whole is a little buggy. At one point while using it with the hdmi my whole tablet restarted. Everything else played fine using hdmi. The youtube app has forced closed or just plain quit on its own many times even when not using hdmi.
How about other videos apps? Do they work?

I had the exact same thing happen to me as onehitter; my Xoom rebooted when I hit HQ.
I used RockPlayer to test some episodes of The Office that I've got, along with an AVI of Year One, both worked fine.
I tested a few games, they all looked spectacular. See attached - Mario never looked so good.
Youtube seemed to work completely fine when I was playing it through the HDMI, even in HQ. However, when I was done I was playing with the tablet and long pressed on the homescreen to change a widget and it just completely powered down my Xoom. I don't know the exact cause but it was almost immediately after playing with Youtube.

How did you get full-HDMI out? I thought it was only with Gallery and Video playback? I have a microHDMI->HDMI cable that I've been waiting to try out

It has full 720p mirroring. It cuts off the menu bar at the bottom.

So I loaded up the YouTube app and played a video, it was on HQ by default. Within the App and not Full-Screen the video played just fine. But as said, as soon as I went to full screen the Xoom turned itself off.
I'm sure it's just a software glitch (one of a few I've run into so far) and it will be fixed in an update.

Is that done by simply plugging in the HDMI cable and switching your TV over to that mode? It'll just pop up?

I had to re-start my Xoom with the cable plugged in to get it work the first time. It was pretty cool (and a little startling) to see the Honeycomb start-up animation just appear on a 60" screen.
Hi guys,
So whenever I'm watching a video with the YouTube app in HD it constantly stop play, loads, then plays, then loads then play.....you get the idea. At first I though it was a bandwidth issue but if I'm on other WiFi connections that I know are faster than mine I have the same issue. If I take it off of HD mode it runs fine. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a known fix for it? Or is this maybe a WiFi hardware issue with the N10? It sucks not being able to watch YouTube videos on my N10. Thanks for the feedback guys!

ya mine just keeps trying to load every like 30 seconds, its horrible. Issue only happens in HD.
To be honest, I'd be more willing to peg this issue (which I've seen as well from time to time) to the Nexus 10's rather underwhelming Wi-Fi performance. It's the one thing about Android that always really bugs me-- of all the devices I've owned, the iPad/iPod Touch (gifted that one though to my roommate) have had the fewest issues with Wi-Fi. And it's bizarre. There's no reason it should happen, but I've seen the gauntlet of problems (including everyone's favorite "Avoiding poor connection").
installed smarttube app from play store and no issue withe the same video. no problems with skype video. only youtube - even just 10 feet from router with every other app rocking it.

It's probably partly because of your connection speed and partly because of the way buffering works on the native Android app, which seems badly done.
Generally speaking, the native Youtube app for Android is pretty badly done. It doesn't let you choose the exact resolution you want like on the Flash player, ie 360p, 480p, 720p, or 1080p, only HD or not. It will automatically start downloading in HD if it thinks your connection is fast enough and won't let you switch to non-HD until after it has buffered in HD and starts playing a bit. It doesn't let you order a channel's videos by popularity, though you can get around that by going to the website, ordering by popularity, and then clicking on the videos from there. It will buffer a video, but if you switch to another app and then come back, it will often randomly lose that buffering, meaning you have to wait while it downloads all over again.
It is amazing how bad this app is after so many years of being out.

By far and away though, the biggest annoyance for me (after the ones you listed) was introduced more recently. Why, oh why, Google, would you not let me disable watch suggestions? They never work, especially with my subscriptions!

Sometimes I know the connection is okay, but YouTube just likes to be a jerk. It happens to me occasionally, but something I've dealt with.
Generally, I download the YouTube video and watch it (or watch it on my train ride later!). Usually those kind of apps are helpful even if you have a slow connection so you don't get that stuttering when trying to watch a video.
I've heard some good things about this YouTube Downloading app. Personally, I haven't tried it; I use TubeMate from the amazon app-store.
In a different way, this should help.
