Sad, sad day today........ - EVO Shift 4G General

Sadly i had to say goodbye to a very dear friend today...... my Shift decided to take a dump on me, the friggin power button decided it was going to stop working and now she is powered off with no way to turn her back on...... Since its time for an upgrade im going to be going in the route of the Nexus as i can get it online for 29.99..... Im gonna miss the old shift but im not even gonna risk it getting one because i know itll be 2.3.3 and unrootable. Met some good guys in here and im sure ill still be seeing you guys around. If anyone wants, i have a shift that is rooted and currently running Cyclonic rom but will not power on because of the broken power button i will let it go very cheap, i also have a brand new otterbox still in the box ill sell for 20ishbucks shipped. im gonna miss the ol shifty

Get on irc and join #htc_evo_shift you might be able to get it repaired at a Sprint store as well. Have you tried that?

Short the solder pads with a tiny tiny wad of aluminum foil, Done this before on other devices. if the pads lifted, use sewing needles and just pierce the traces and touch the 2 needles

Exactly what I did when my HTC Vogue had a broken power button.

Yea I was able to turn it on using a piece of solder to short the contacts out, then used button remapper to make my volume down key my power key. As long as I restore the remapper app with data everytime I flash ill be set unless I need to do a battery pull, then its back to shortin the contact!

Kickstand is still rock solid here. "knockonwood..."
maybe I need to return it I can shake the phone real.good and the kickstand will fly out
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
hmm, i tried to shake my phone and 'whip' it to try to get the kickstand to fall out.
nothing.
and i fiddle with it...just like i do with the battery covers on remotes etc
i open my kickstand by pushing on one end so the other end pops out.

I think you have to use the version floating around the forums. IT has been a few weeks but there is a thread discussing it and the link to the file works fine.
It just seems lose maybe I should take it to sprint and make them tighten it

Did anyone else notice

that the main cast in the new hawaii five-O all use heros? noticed it watching tonights episode. thought that to be kinda cool that they choose hero and not the fancier phones out there.
if that's true im glad to see it. the hero needs a boost in publicity, the phone is darn near dead anymore.

Last season's show '24' on FOX also had several of its characters using the Hero. I don't think Jack Bauer himself had one, but many of his other weekly co-stars did.

Yeah I think you're right. It was some kind of flash drive thing that hacked the device and ripped a bunch of encrypted information off it.
One time I remember seeing a shot of somebody using the Hero holding it upside down while 'talking' on it, lol

new hole on bottom of evo

i got my evo on july 3, never even considered putting it in a case because its just so damn sexy it should be naked all the time.... so wednesday i noticed a scratch or maybe a crack on the screen. took the phone in and they replaced the front housing front display and rear display.... now theres a little hole on the bottom of the evo to the left of the microusb port that wasnt there before. What is this? it looks like the little reset button my kaiser and touch pro had, but obviously the evo has no stylus so what gives??

Wow! Very nice! The springs seem to not be available right now. I also have a little fear of disassembling my phone.. The last time I did it, it was on a Sony Ericsson k800i, I ended up break the power button off without even knowing it until there was no feel in the power button when I tried to turn it in.

Well it looks like I'm down for the count

I got my new flex cable today but after installing it and booting the shift there is no display. It does boot. The keyboard lights up and the home menu back and search buttons light up. I can even hear the sound that happens when I change the volume but nothing on the screen. I stripped it down a second time to be sure everything was plugged in right but there's nothing out of place that I can find. :crying: Man I hate this. I have loved being a part of this group.

Funny you should mention that. Last week at like 2am I bid on what I thought was an Evo Shift but it turned out to be an EVO 4G. (I'm such a dufus) It came today and I guess that's my new phone.
