Bro! Are you serious? You just said you dropped it in water. What you expect. Also doubt anyone else has had that problem either. Unless they've dropped it in water as well lol.
Wow!

No. The best thing to do when you drop your phone in water is to take out the battery from the phone and just bury the phone in a bowl of rice for like a day. It sounds stupid but it actually works.

[Q] dropped vibrant into the toilet...

i was at a bar i didn't even want to be at in a small town in colorado.
at first i just stared at it for 10 seconds thinking "at this point i should just leave it there because the damage is done"
then all of a sudden it started goign crazy with lights and "samsung vibrant" flashing everywhere on the screen, so i decided to dive in and save it. then i violently washed it with hotwater under the sink and only after washing my hands did i finally open it and take out the battery (at this point, the screen shown brightly with "samsung vibrant).
3 hours later, hoping it had dried completely, i put the battery in and again it came to life with the samsung vibrant text. i quickly took the battery out.
i jsut tried it again and it wont turn on at all. is it over?

You shouldn't have done that, the phone was still wet. When you did that you fried your phone. If you would have put your phone in a bag of rice or let it dry out for a few days then it might have been ok. Hope you have insurance.
Yeah, I always heard that half the time, if you power it off and let it dry, and make sure it's dry before trying to power it on again, you can luck out.
omg omg omg!!
when you responded, my heart dropped and then i ran over to see if it would start again one more time (i plugged it into the charger) and i pressed the on button and it showed it was charging. i'm goign to leave it alone now in a bag of rice like you said. but i dont know if i can wait 3 days.... i never learn my lesson
Hahaha I dropped a phone in the toilet once. Good luck
i know i'm getting ahead of myself, but just SAY that if i finally do get it to power on, but nothing shows up except a "samsung vibrant" screen, is there a way to reinstall the OS?
My son left his ipod nano in his pants pocket. It got washed. I dried it and did the rice thing for 2-3 days (can't remember how many). Charged it up. Just like new.
The moral of the story? If you can't wait 3 days to see if it has been salvaged, you don't deserve a new phone...

Uh, dude, it would not be a software problem... If it doesn't boot up its a hardware problem.
Just make sure its sitting nicely covered in the dry rice....wait...you did use dry rice right? Not cooked rice??? lol kidding...

we'll see. the green charging light gives me hope. i will definitely not pay full price for a new one. this was $99 through costco-- which is what a phone should cost.
Don't over cook the rice. Stir-fry it with some egg, carrots, scallions, peas, and barbecued pork. Everything should be okay.

This is why the data is so expensive in America. The companies need to get back the money they lost on the phone.
The phone might be fried since you didn't wait to turn it off. I've read the bag of rice will work. Next time wait until you phone is dry and just reroute you calls with Google Voice. I'd still try the rice too.

Did you say after you took it out the the toilet you then washed it under hot water? Seriously? You thought "oh, its wet, I shall now soak it some more?"

To clarify a little... when you drop the phone in water, the FIRST thing you do is take out the battery and sim card. Then you let it dry COMPLETLY, this takes days, not hours. Like said above, rice does good, you put it in a zip lock, take out the air and seal it.. leave for AT LEAST 3 days so the rice can absorb the moisture, THEN you try to turn it on for the first time. If you try turning it on when there is moisture you will fry the phone, water conducts electricity and brings power where there is not supposed to be and burns circuits, so by putting the battery and attempt to turn it on prematurely, you are killing it causing short circuits internally.

make sure you throw the rice away after you're done or better yet, feed it to some iphone fanboy

+1 and ty , I just read through this post and wondered when someone would point out the OP already turned it on to "check" it after being in the water.
Time to order a replacement, even if it does for some magical reason power on that phone is going to be issue city.

Wow, you are the second person to say this. Someone who was on the Urban Fury thread a while back said he dropped his phone in tomato soup and it still worked after he dried it out. And to think I was worried about having Best Buy put on an InvisiShield or whatever its called when they wet it at first.

lolz good story. yeah im really impressed with the build quality of this phone despite all of the software problems samsung continues to deliver top notch hardware. i mean seriously i was in the pool for like 5 minutes when i realized i had it in my pocket. i fully recommend this phone to any clumsy person. im really hoping this is something else i started having battery problems after i dropped it so i flashed to the supernova rom (which is excellent btw) and i "think" thats when my 4g probs started. i wish i had tested EVERYTHING as soon as i got it working again because im really not sure if it ever worked after i swam with it. im flashing syndicate now so we'll see if i can get it working.
yea, i have a hard time noticing the half inch thick, brick in my pocket too. did you just jump in with jeans on? where are the pockets when you skinny dip?

I have dropped a previous Samsung phone in the toilet (after flushing) and it work fine after drying out. One trick is to put it in a sealed jar of rice to have it absorb any moisture inside.

Try reflashing the rom and see what happens

I think your 4g radio is definitely fried. The problem you're describing with it is exactly what happened to me. I would definitely take it into the sprint store and see if they can replace it. They replaced mine right away and free of charge.

Atrix died a horrible death *water damage*

Stupidly, I got in to the hot tub with my Atrix in my shorts. I realized it too late but it was only under water for about 5 seconds. I pulled it out of my pocket and sure enough it was dead and wouldn't turn on. Red water indicators were blown.
I let it sit in some rice for about 36 hours, and shook any excess water out.
Today, I just opened it up and there is no water to be found.
Everytime I put the battery in though, the camera flash LED goes crazy and flashes about 3-4 times before stopping. It turns on and goes to the ATT splash screen, but then restarts.
After it restarts, it sits at the Dual Core screen, then says Modem did not power up (0) - Starting RSD protocol support
I am going to try reflashing the firmware on it to see if it may fix the problem. I hope.
Any ideas on how to maybe save my phone?
Thanks,

When water contacts the board it connects everything.
You're probably SOL.

sometimes even if you drain all the water out some components frazzle themselves as soon as water hits, sorry to hear, hope you find a fix!

Yes, but generally when such a short happens, the phone immediately shuts off. The phone basically isn't on long enough for anything to "frazzle" itself.
Unfortunately, jortiz, You probably made the biggest error you could have ever done with a wet electronic device...

NEVER....... EVER try to turn on a device if it shut off after being submersed in water. Will do SIGNIFICANTLY more harm than good. I've seen several phones that were soaked... either from the person being shoved into the pool with the phone in their pocket, or it having just been left in the rain. 9 times out of 10, if they're left to dry for a while, they turn on without really any issues. Attempting to turn it on while it was still wet probably eliminated just about any chance of there not being something wrong with the phone.

o no bro.a good tip, dont use bulb or something its make corrosive your mainboard.the best is to put it in a jar full of rice.
thanks,,,,,,,buddy i suppose it work!!!!doin it
Bro also place rice jar in sunlight so that water will eveporate and rice would absorb it...
Also remove battery and other accessories.and if possible open the body of phone by removing the screws...
Placing it in a bag of rice wont help much as far as I know just let it dry and after that open the phone and see if there is any corrosion on the board if yes remove that first by a soft brush to remove the corrosion you can also try to dip the main board in alcoholic solution just google it

glad to hear the hardware is safe from harm,
btw make sure to run tests because most of the time water damages does not appear at first
The classic rice trick has always worked best for me.
Guys, once i also experienced the same problem. My phone feel into a bucket full of water . What i did was, immediately removed the battery and wiped it well, then some shaking.. After 15, 20 minutes, i restarted it but it wasn't. I tried to unscrew it but failed due to lack of proper screw driver.. anyway i left it on my bed and went for duty. Evening icame back. Tried to restart, again failed. then i put it on charging. Nothing was shown on the display as charging. But after a 10 minutes when i tried to switch it on, really, it switched on... There was no problem after that.
Same my brother also experienced this problem. He accidently dropped it in a pond.. He took it to a Samsung care, after checking they told him that its motherboard needs to be changed. And it costs half the price of y. So he took it back to
Home. One of his friend told him to put it under sunlight.! He did so, and after some time when he switched it on, it successfully booted. But there is a big round Mark in his display.
Now he has to change the display.

when situations like that happen:
1. REMOVE BATTERY IMMEDIATELY
2. NEVER PUT THE BATTERY BACK ON
3. DONT PANIC
4. Never put the device to dry under the sun
5. To make sure take 1-2 days before turning the device on again
I heard that you take battery out, shake water out of it then just leave it to dry under a medium powered light bulb

Phone Dead?

I recently dropped my phone into the toilet water.... i quickly removed it and i volume down and power to force it off.. after 2 days i checked the phone again.. it didnt on but i plug the charger.. there was a red led only.. i tried many unbrick methods but i dont think my phone is bricked. I opened up the insides of the phone and all the water has gone and theres no water stuck or anything.. dry
but my nexus 4 is still on red led when plugged in.. I think its battery problem?
I think it's not messed up completely. You should take it to service center ASAP instead of guessing what happened to it.

You probably just need a new battery. Everything else should be working fine. Best thing to do is take everything apart and clean them with isopropyl alcohol, then let them dry, buy a new battery and you ll have a working phone again. Sometimes some other components might have problems, like camera or mic/speakers, which are all cheap as spare parts. Plenty of videos on YouTube on how to fix water damage.
