Hi all,
I have a question concerning the GPS functionality in Hero GSM 2.2 based Custom Roms. Here is the problem I had:
When I use my Navigation software (latest CoPilot Live 9) or other GPS based apps (MyTracks) on my HTC Hero (GSM, FroydVillain 1.7.2) it uses to crash and force a reboot. However, this problem does not occur reproducable. Sometime navigation works fine for several minutes. Sometimes reboot is forced directly after starting the navigation software. This is what I tried (based on what I read):
- turn on GPS -> manual reboot
- I'm using latest radio
- I adjusted my CPU settings to min 352, max 576, interactive
- I also tried another Navigation software (lates sygic GPS Navigation) -> same problem
- and of course: hard reset, intalled everything new
Finally, I decided to get rid of 2.2 and went back to VillanRom13. And.... tadaaaa, GPS apps work like charme! No problems.
In another forum someone said that the problem doesn't seem to arise when using Cronos Froyo. Someone else suggested to flash Flykernel. Does someone here has/had a similar problem and was able to solve it?
Any Cronos Froyo users who run GPS based apps without problems?
Thank you very much for your help!
Cheers
Actually I had no force reboots while using Ele/s Speedmachine v4 out of the box..
With Speedmachine v5 I had force reboots running GPS with Las Venturax 0.6.2 and Flykernel13...
Waiting for Speedmachine v6 to see what will happen, but I still have a copy of Speedmachine v4 just in case, which is really the fastest and most stable ROM I used so far

GPS Issues caused by Custom Roms
I experienced the same thing. The only rom that works, and I have tried 6 of them including leo, the cell rom and others. GPS only works with my original ATT rom. Google Maps will not work and any other apps depending on the Gps. I think it has something to do with MYLOCATION in the new custom roms. I also notice that MYLOCATION will only work after some adjustments meaning when i flash a rom it will not work after flashing.
Has anyone had a similar experience. I am stuck with the ATT stock rom because I need my GPS to work. Any sugggestions.
I just installed the Europe rom and I am also having gps problems. It worked fine with the stock rom, and energy rom i tried before and then a different stock 6.1 rom (was not the same as the actual "stock" rom). Any help would be great, dont really want to go back to 6.1 and this rom is very solid.
Hello, yestarday I have installed Android on my Hd2 device. My problem is when my android is trying to connect 2G/3G network system is freezing. I have to remove battery and put it to run it again. For example when wifi is connected and i am running internet browser everything is fine but I turned off wifi and run browser, progres bar in browser go slighly and then system freeze;/ I have new rom 3.14 for east europe. I have tested FroyoStone Sense V3.2, Mdeejay eVo Sense v._2.3Revolution and shubCRAFT v2.0 stock. Problem occurs on all this builds - not always but very ofter. Can someone help me with that ?
Thanks in advance
I managed to install FROYO.XWJPB ROM on my Vibrant. It is I9000 European ROM that consists much locales. Much more than any of Vibrant's ROMs.
It runs very smooth and looks good. I installed JK2 modem and kernel over it to make phone, sound and softkeys work properly.
Now I have the only one little problem - GPS doesn't work like it didn't worked on Eugen's ROM untill JK2 ROM was released. So my idea is to take some drivers or system files from JK2 and to repair GPS on this ROM like Eugen did it some time ago. We would have got good ROM with localization for all countries.
I'm not experienced in ROM development yet, so I need some advice or help. I tried to copy some libraries from JK2 (\system\lib\libgps.so, libsecgps.so, libclientgps.so) and GPS-related files (system\bin\agpsd and configs: system\etc\gps.conf) using Root Explorer. But it didn't helped. GPS doesn't listen to sattelites signals (listening icon doesn't even appear).
Did you try the new Samsung GPS Restore app from the market?
Maybe try pulling /system/app/LbsTestMode from macnut r12 and pushing it to /system/app/ on the ROM your working with?
can you post a link

I was actually thinking of trying this with Eugene's JPM Froyo build.

It says It doesn't works with I9000.
bbm21, I9000XWJPB - this pack contains phone and CSC files also, but I recommend not to flash a Phone and stay at JK2. CSC is Russian but you can change locale after install.
I9000XWJPA - also a good European ROM but without Russian APN and so on.
I9000XWJP5 - Italian
I9000JPJPF - Arabian
BTW, Battery Life is perfect on JPB ROM! CPU usage is less than 1% in sleep. Lost 1% of battery per 4 hours.
I was doing a similar thing trying to get the arabic rom to work on my vibrant, keys and other stuff got fixed after i used the Vibrant modem JK2 with the i9000JPJPF ROM but was having the GPS issues, then i found this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=839652
So i am wondering if you have seen it and tried it? since it uses more files than what you have mentioned in your first post:
Bin/
agpsd
lib/
libclientgps.so
libhardware.so
libhardware_legacy.so
libsecgps.so
i am going to give it a try when i have time.
hope it will help
Is it not possible to migrate the Localization files/settings from the Galaxy S (which is pretty much the same phone) official firmware to Vibrant's JK6? Or better yet some modder include it it in his Rom (Master, Eugene can you hear me?)?
We have Epic 4G's camera in many of the custom Roms, localization should not be out of the question either. Especially since it's such a hot feature for most people NOT in US...
Putting those files will fix the GPS on the vibrant. I had trouble with the gps after flashing an arabic rom based on i9000. I pulled the gps files you listed from a working 2.1 rom and placed them in their proper locations. Now it works.
On a side note, the rom I'm using from ce4arab forum is a total battery hog. My vibrant's battery is draining like 10% an hour. Is there a way to add only the localization files for the browser/messaging without the extra samsung stuff?
I hope that you will conyinue your work and make first MultyLanguage ROM for Vibrant!!!
pls, let me know when you finish your work!!!
Multi Lingual ROM from Hebrew
There are a few ROMs that run smoothly on the I9000. Some of them are from the Israeli providers.
If everything is working perfect like the volume keys, the 4 touch function at the bottom, then it looks like an easy task.
Put such a ROM, replace the GPS files and you are done.
The question is if all is working OK except for the GPS?
If so, I will try that this weekend.
I've tried copying /Bin and /Lib files but had no luck. I did it witha RootExorer and rebooted. Maybe it is incorrect way.
Hello
I have problem with my GPS on HTC HD2. I had the windows mobile 6.5 the GPS signal was ok . I installed android but the GPS not working, i tried to install some nand from this forum but the GPS would not work.
I tried to install app GPS Libraries but GPS not work....
Somebody help me???
try another rom.especially new roms lock to satellites in seconds.
Like mutil said, try out a new ROM. I personally recommend trying TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 or NexusHD2-Gingerbread (the two most stable and "well cooked" NAND ROMs for the HD2). They have the GPS libraries properly integrated. I'm personally using TyphooN and I get a GPS lock indoors within a minute from a cold boot. I also have Cellular Data turned off.
Thank you
I tried a new rom but the GPS doesn't work.... I thought GPS hardware is crash but I installed yesterday WM6.5 and the gps was OK.
I dont understand where is the problem.
You should start over with a Task29. Refer to the guides as appropriate.

hi guys, I do need your help!
yesterday, I started using CM7. I used MIUI before. I chose the latest stable cm7 rom downloaded from cyanogenmod web. I followed all the necessary steps, after flashing, my phone ran perfectly (connected wifi, gprs with high speed). however, after restarting, it showed on the status bar that connected the wifi but actually it couldn't. the same problem with gprs. i tried in vain so many times...
at first, I thought that it was the rom's problem, so I use another rom: the latest nightly cm7 rom. But the same problems happened. this time, my phone couldn't access wifi or gprs after a night (I can't understand). I find that this rom very smooth and beautiful so that I still want to continue using it..
anyone knows how to fix it? help me, please!
thanks a lot!
anyone?? ( plzz
after several times of re-flash my I9000, I must give up using CM rom :s
