Found the solution!
It was by matlacki, basically just reflash stock ruu 1.32, re-root and restore your nanadroid and it's all good.

I have done the same and now my proximity sensor is working again when restored from my CM7 nanadroid.
This doesnt make any sense?!
==================================================
Btw i am using build 30
For those who having this proximity sensor issue like myself , I done a test.
Go to setting > CyanogenMod setting >display > automatic backlight > > tick use custom > edit other levels.
For me I can see my sensor functioning will. 7 for total darkness and 59 for din light and 190+ for lamp.
Now try to make a call and watch the screen go off. You can't on it back but there's still ringing tone.
I used my nexus one flash to shine on the sensor and my screen turned back on.
Now go back to the edit other lvl notice that the light sensor doesn't response to the different brightness.
A reboot will fix the problem but if there's s phone call, this bug starts again. Try it!!!
And share your results. If there's ppl with the same as mine, it might be a cm7 bug and not s proximity sensor failure
Its not a CM7 bug. I have never had the proximity sensor problem on any ROM, be it stock or otherwise.
I'm also using build 30 and no proximity sensor problem to report.
i want to believe its not a CM7 bug.
For the past 2 weeks when I was using various CM7 builds, I do not have any proximity issues as described by other users till yesterday, it just popped up.
Nandroid to my old backup (which has no such the problem), and problem still persist.
flashed back to RUU 1.32 rom and the sensor is working in sense rom.
So now i cant even send back for a replacement.

This problem started yesterday evening for me. 5days of CM7 without issues and now this dealbreaker. Need to pull battery after end of a call.

try flashing 1.32 RUU and redo the whole rooting again > and back to CM7.
seems unreal but it really did solve my problem..
Okay...
I'm having the same problem, i just checked it with the program "Sensorlist" which gives me info about the proximity sensor....
With CM7 it doesn't work, but with stock rooted ROM it works fine...
So it must be a problem with the CM7 software....
Has anyone solved the problem, so it doesn't come back?
Solved my Problem, too.
And I guess I've found the reason for the Problem.
Within the last Days, I've played around a little with the ambient light sensor settings. Both, system side and also with the additional cyanogen settings.
Why do I come to that conclusion?
Well, I made a Backup of all my Apps and Settings via TitaniumBackup.
Then I:
- Wiped my phone via CW + Full-Wipe.zip
- Flashed this 1.72 via CW http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884327. Tested it = everything fine.
- Wiped again + clean installed PNK_AB CM7. Testet it = everything fine.
- Restored my Apps + Settings. Failure retuned after restart.
Now I was sure, it is Software related.
- So I wiped the data partition via CW and restarted. Everything fine again. Even after Reboot.
- Time to restore Apps + Settings, but this time without the settings from the Cyanogen Apps/Settings, Debug App and SpareParts. Everything fine in first, but the problem retourned after reboot.
- So again: wiping data = everything fine. Rebooted about five times, te be sure. Everything fine.
- Restored Apps + Settings: without: Cyanogen Apps/Settings, Debug App, SpareParts AND SystemSettings.
Voila: The Problem was away and didn't even come back after several reboots.
So my conclusion:
CM7 ambient light settings and system ambient light settings mess each other up. Dunno, which is causing the problem, but it is solved for me, yet.
What's your Opinion guys?
My findings (with input from Apache14):
- The proximity issue only affects those with a non-Sharp LCD.
- The kernel source code released by HTC does not contain the correct code to handle this device. I am still looking for solutions.
- On the 1.32 kernel, when proximity is required, some polling mechanism is activated. I assume this is needed as there is no Interrupt hooked up on a hardware level on this LCD/chip (same sensor uC however).
- There is no source code for this. Not in HTC released kernel source or CM or AOSP.
Currently I am looking at either:
- Getting the latest source code for the DHD kernel which HTC has failed to release. The source code corresponds to some RUU older than 1.32.
or
- Hacking the kernel to do the same polling as present in the 1.32 kernel binaries.

Didn't remove them from the ROM.
I simply unticked them while/before restoring my FullBackup with TitaniumBackup.
For those that cant get proximity sensor to work on custom kernel/ROMS, try the following (no root required):
Code:
echo '0x50530b0c 0x140b0b0c' > /sys/devices/virtual/optical_sensors/proximity/ps_kadc
This will adjust the calibration values. The 0b part is the 'low tide' aka FAR start and 0c is the 'high tide' aka NEAR start.
IOW, values below FAR start is FAR, and values above NEAR start is NEAR.
Tested this on latest Buzz (Apache14) kernel.
Need to somehow make this persistent, and make sure it does not get reset during normal operation.
Stay tuned
Update: Still thinking of how to apply this at boot, maybe 'init.d' ? Also havent been reset during normal operation.
Thanks for the info
ok but how do you appli that ?
Text editor ? etc.
Flashing default (stock ruu) kernel
did it for me. Prox sensor working as intended.

Great work Leppie!
I had this problem, wile on CM6, started after I installed ADW EX. Used to use launcher pro, but realy liked the transisions in ex, so started using that, and got this problem. Updated to CM7, stil had the problem, no matter rom version. Went back to launcher pro, and now it works like normal. Thinking ther might be something with the launcher, and mabye a hardwere thing in some phones.
I am now on nihtly CM7 34, I think, and no problem.
So for those having this prob, try to switch to another launcher, and reboot a couple of times.
Hope this helps
how did you downgrade?
with Recovery?! or with Gold card?!
i have done both ways but didn't solve my problem :-(
please give me a link of Stock rom ruu!
3rd thread, about 4th rom flashed
constant issues with builds. have gone from stock to:
cm 6.1.3 -apps crashing, random crash notices i.e "phone book has crashed force close" - "the process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly"
cm 7 - random reboots, opening browser caused power cycle, wifi issues, lag (thread posted, no solutions at the forefront)
currently on tripnraver pre release. now another issue. no signal what so ever.
original baseband on this xperia x10a is .55. it is suggested to use with bands 52 or 49.
loading either of these basebands. which ive done. doesn't seem to fix the no signal problem. the description states should be backwards compatible even if appropriate bb is not installed on device. yet no luck.
attempting to flash either baseband fails to resolve this problem. currently trying to flash back to stock and try another full reinstall and baseband flash in flashtool.
any ideas would be a great help. having to flash x number of times between roms is getting quite time consuming
thanks everyone.
if you want to stay on the miui rom, you can flash the baseband patch located here and stay on whatever baseband works best for you (I'm on .55 and find it fantastic), then when you load the rom, go to dev tools>bad behaviour>crash the system server.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011608
Otherwise, I would recommend wolfbreaks cm 6.1.3, as it is the most stable. You must have done something wrong during installation as I never had an issue with his roms.
The only issue I have ever had with any rom is MiUi and thats because I used the wrong baseband. You must be doing something wrong for you to be having problems
if you want, try this flash, it's trips miui pre-final with the baseband patch implemented.
http://www.multiupload.com/KCKE9K2WKN
worked with my .54 baseband
thanks so much for the links to the baseband patches. i remember coming across a thread that posted it but unfortunately forgot to book mark. so im definitely going to go ahead and try with the patch installed. hopefully all works well
each rom ive flashed has been done properly according to instructions. cache wiped, dalvik, and full reset as per menu options in xrecovery.
one way or another i experienced lag for the most part, and as mentioned some random crashes. never had reset on wolfs rom just error messages at times. trips rom worked excellent, smooth and quick. hopefully with the patch implemented everything will work flawlessly
thanks you guys
*Updated
Flashed over rom with baseband patch. signal working. everything running smooth.
except for when using camera zoom. zoom default displays 0x. as soon as the option is selected it spawns an immediate force close
any patches? or similar outcome for anyone else?
i will outline my steps below so everyones up to speed on how i performed this flash.
- flashed back stock in SEUS
- root with one click (success)
- installed busy box (market)
- installed xrecovery apk
- booted into xrec
1. full factory reset
2. wipe cache
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. wipe battery stats
5. install custom zip from sd card
6. selected trips rom with bb patch implemented
5. reboot
Camera zoom doesn't work in most ROMs yet and the lag you were experiencing was likely just the FW "settling" it can take a little bit and a couple reboots sometimes for the phone to calibrate itself properly.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
thanks cmoney. maybe ill try my luck with cm7. give it a few reboots and hope for the best. great rom. im really loving trips iphonesque style
clean smooth and quick. everythings working great. hoping the zoom may get fixed soon enough. only other inquiry i have with regards to this rom is the apps2sd.
this feature is essential to myself personally. and it is not working as ive noticed on this rom. ive read a thread with regards to a fix for the last release. i checked the settings for an enable option in case the feature requires being manually set as active but nothing listed. within sd settings state reads as unavailable. if anyone has an answer as to whether this fix will function with the current pre release. ill be going ahead with completeling the flash and reporting what i find back on this thread.
thanks again everyone
Try Wolfbreaks rom. It's very very stable for me. It has cam and everything upto date.
im going to flash back to wolfbreaks updated 6.1.3 unless anyone can point me in the direction of a fix for trips rom.
the smooth and fluid feel of trips rom was brilliant. i am hopeful someone has directions for an apps2sd fix as i have flashed the build twice and the same issue has occured.

works for me on trips newest....
i just downloaded the new version 1.0
this is ridiculous. without the baseband patch. crash system server. no signal
now apps to sd is saying "apps2sd is not supported on this device"
this is an xperia x10, so obviously there must be something wrong here.
can anyone elaborate on exactly what to do about this because im going to attempt to flash back the rom, flash the bb patch right after, reboot. i assume this will only solve my signal issue. but this apps to sd is getting extremely frustrating and i can not figure out why it is not showing an enabled status.
- Flashed 1.0 with baseband patch - network signal resolved.
- apps to sd is STILL not working. and i really dont know what to do about this. everything else on this rom is perfect. is there something im missing? i came across a patch for apps2sd fix but this was for a previous version. would it be needed here? is there a setting that must be enabled first in order to start apps to sd as a service.
- as mentioned previously within the main menu, under sd card settings. message states "apps2sd is not supported on device" and on previous build would display "apps2sd unavailable". its simply impossible that the phone doesn't support it. as with every other rom the feature has worked. froyo would support it. the question is how do i go about enabling said feature?

I dunno man, it works fine for me, but I copied data from my 0.3.2 xrecovery image, so that might be why. try flashing that apps2sd fix for 0.3.2, should work fine
damn it. i just found that thread. found the links to the fixes. so far ive tried miui32_a2sd_fix.zip. and flashed that over with xrec prior to reboot. which did nothing.
there are two more links so im going to try those two flashes as well and hope that one of them will do the trick. if its working when utilizing .32 patches then ideally the bloody thing would have to work here. thanks for the input though dtox. much appreciated
I don't know what else to suggest man
From the feedback I see in the miui thread, everyone else is reporting it working!
Did you factory wipe, wipe cache partition, and wipe dalvik cache before install? then flash the miui 1.0.zip, and flash immediately the baseband patch then reboot into the rom.
Remember not all apps allow apps2sd so use something like android system info, go into the applications tab click on one, click manage and then see if the option "move to sd" is highlighted. Like I said check a few though, not all apps can be moved
i just replied in the dev section lol but yes i have gone ahead and checked the applications menu. specifically downloaded a file i have moved to sd on a previous occasion from the market.
nothing
the "apps to sd" selection is completely greyed out. no matter what application i click on or download. i did a full wipe, full install, and selected the apps2sd fix immediately after rom and bbpatch flash, prior to rebooting. issue still remains.
we'll see i guess. thanks again dtox

Try it again but without the fix...
i did that to it doesnt work i get the same message displayed
i tried with fix and without. another thing to note is that the rom itself says it should work with a different baseband as it has elements of unified. (which it doesn't) i had to flash the bb patch to get signal.
im not sure whats up with this but until i figure it out for a certainty ive flashed back over to wolf breaks rom. hopefully something will surface and i can give trips rom another go.

No idea man, like I said it is fine for everyone else so I'm so no big development will arise that will make it function with your phone....
maybe it has something to do with 10a. i dont know. but the point is it shouldn't even be doing this regardless. hypothetically if its froyo and it has apps2sd built in. it should work. its not the way ive flashed. the phone supports it. so my only conclusion the rom must not be as compatible as stated. and from reading different posts about the prev builds sometimes the patches worked at other times they didnt. and also the fact that the rom is claimed to work without the need for a bbpatch. yet without the patch instaled phone caught no single. i guess certain unexplainable glitches can be bound to happen at times but any how ill give it one last go.
if nothing comes out of that then im giving up on that build because it seems relatively hopeless.
lol I'm using an x10a...
Still man you're the only person reporting this. Don't you find that strange? What baseband are you using anyhow?
Question:will someone help me?
I will begin by saying that I have no idea where the problem exists for my individual situation, and it would be great if I could get some help.
Background:
I used to run Dead Rage 1.2.
Now I have been back and fourth between Skrilax nightlies and Bytecode's cm10.1 with little to no hiccups.
Over time I began to notice a little lag(notification drawer, swiftkey, and basic ui elements).
Problem description:
Then I decided to try some other roms to fix my issues.
When I flash Carbon rom:
- It has no lock screen by default (and I have not been able to fix this in lockscreen settings)
- The home button does not work (neither in pie controls)
- the quick settings panel button in the notification drawer does not open the quick settings( nor can I access the quick settings any other way)
- the home screen apps are strangely and slightly above the software buttons
I saw someone with similar problems in the posts of carbon but it was resolved by a single reflash.
I also tried a relatively new rom called Revolt on droidrzr:
- I experienced similar issues with the home button
- I did not delve into the issues more because the issues were similar to carbon
Explained, further:
As explained above I have flashed without issue before.
I am under the impression that the way to flash is:
1. mount system
2. wipe system
3. repeat
4. reboot recovery
5. mount system
6. flash
I have tried every variation on this set of rules I think is possible for carbon. I initially had TWRP 2.3. I have flashed without rebooting recovery, without mounting system, with a factory reset on the previous rom, wiping cache and delvik as well. If I don't wipe the system I get weird crashes and the home button still doesn't work but it fixes other things like quick settings. Sometimes when I would wipe system, and not do a factory reset, and flash carbon all my apps from the Bytecode build persisted. This made me think it was a recovery problem.
Then I flashed TWRP 2.5. I have similarly tried everything with TWRP 2.5 and get the same results. I have tried 6/21, 6/23, 7/2, 7/4 carbon on both recoveries.
I have a backup of bytecode cm10.1 and I am running that currently.
If some one would help me troubleshoot or fix my problem, I would love to get carbon. And I would be very much appreciative.
If I am in the wrong place please point me.
I did not post in the carbon topic because I do not have more than 10 posts.
I know that people are not paid to help me so I respect when they do.
Also if you need screenshots, I can reflash carbon and take some shots too.

this should probably be in the Q&A/Help/Troubleshooting section....
Thank You So Much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I know its soon and I am still crossing my fingers, but thank you!
Hi everyone, I'll try to keep this as concise and clear as possible. Thanks in advanced for reading this.
Phone: SGS4
Running: Android 4.3
Carrier: Bell Canada
Rooted: No
Rom: Stock TouchWiz.
Problem: The phone will not turn on WiFi or Bluetooth. If you attempt to switch either on, it remains a dim green for a few seconds and then turns back off shortly after.
Solutions tried:
(a) Battery pull.
- Unsuccessful. (At first, if battery pulled during Samsung logo animation after restarting from ON state, both WiFi/Bluetooth would turn on again, sometimes for minutes, sometimes hours. Eventually, this stopped working. It would only work on a restart pulling the battery during the animation, never at any other time)
(b) Update to latest firmware through Samsung Kies.
- Unsuccessful.
(c) Boot into safe mode to see if any applications were the cause.
- Unsuccessful.
(d) Wipe device clean and start fresh.
- Unsuccessful.
(e) Change WiFi power saving state to off through *#0011# menu.
- Unsuccessful.
I have not tried loading other roms or kernels.
A quick google search shows that many people have the same problem, I have yet to find a working solution. If anyone here can point me in the right direction, I'm willing to pay at this point. I cannot return it to Samsung as there is a crack on the screen which has voided the warranty. I could fix the screen and try sending it in but I'm hoping for a software solution.
I feel as if it is not a hardware issue as the battery pulls worked initially.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Once again, I'm willing to pay for a working solution, the number is up to you as long as it is reasonable.

When you say wipe device clean, how did you do that? Did you use ODIN and flash the firmware or just do a factory reset?

I did not use ODIN, I did a simple factory reset. I will try that ASAP and post an update. If there any other solutions as well, I would really appreciate them in case that does not do the trick.
Thank you for your response DeadlySin, it is greatly appreciated.

Just try that first, as doing a factory reset does not actually change the system files but rather wipes all userdata. Just use the file for whatever firmware you have in the I337m firmwares thread.
DeadlySin9,
I finally got around to using odin to reset the firmware, first to stock 4.3 from my carrier, then 4.2, both of which still failed to change the state of the problem. At this point, it seems like an obvious hardware problem but if that was true, I still can't understand why I could re-initiate WiFi/Bluetooth after a specific pattern of battery pulls (this does not work anymore but worked for awhile, stopped, then started again, now finally stopped). Any last ideas? I really appreciate your help.

I don't know why that would work. At this point I'm not sure what else you could do. I know I used to have WiFi issues after some flashes with my Inspire but i never really had a fix even then.
i had issues enabling wifi after installing a custom kernel & with certain roms (same 1/2 lit green toggle crap, sometimes it would toggle back off sometimes it would just stay 1/2 lit and make my phone burn)
my solution has been 100% working for myself so far, if you'd like to try it here's the directions
1. install es file explorer
2. set root permissions AND mount as writable, within es file explorer
3. use es file explorer to navigate to the root of your phone (system directory, i think) and open the build.prop file than select the es file editor
4. find the line that says ro.securestorage.support=true and edit it to false, save and close
5. reboot phone, and hopfully you have no more wifi issues
i was skeptical when i first did this because nothing worked to fix my wifi, but this works 100% for me on every rom
Been there, done that.
It's not a hardware problem. It is, I believe, problems with the restrictive 4.3 update not playing nicely with some system settings. In short your system drivers or configuration settings are getting messed up to to bugs in how Knox and the bootloader are interacting with the modem.
I had your exact symptoms after installing certain custom ROMs, also noted that the problem could be temporarily "fixed" if the boot process was interrupted or by specific sequences of modem changes. The situation is not helped by Bell being more restrictive than other Canadian carriers e.g. Rogers, something that also caused me problems when I was enabling AWS on a Bell firmware.
The effective solution was to install a custom recovery to facilitate a complete wipe of files, then flash a Rogers stock image. Cured. And continuing to work properly if subsequently returned to a Bell stock image. Although, frankly you'd have a more stable and flexible platform if you you kept the Rogers image in the end. If the build properties edit doesn't solve your issue, then here is a path for you to pursue.

1/2 Lit Toggles - build.prop editing issue

I have the exact same problem - I'm on US AT&T, I337UCUAMF3, Android 4.2.2 and this solution looks promising. I followed the steps and have RW set up, but ro.securestorage.support does not exist in my build.prop file. Does anyone know if this property is specific to certain builds and/or if there is an equivalent property?

Adding it to the end shouldn't hurt as long as you make sure you set properties on the build.prop

Thanks for the tip, good to know it wouldn't screw anything up. I did add it to the build.prop file, rebooted and it seems to have had no effect. Seems that if the property is not present in the file, adding it does not resolve the problem.
Editing build.prop is a plausible workaround if the OP has root access. If he doesn't wish to root his phone, then he can clean up his system configuration by reinstalling as I described earlier in the thread without requiring root. Two approaches to the same result.
And yes, you can add the entry if it doesn't already exist in your configuration.

UPDATE: I didn't have any luck using the build.prop fix, nor with the wpa_supplicant.conf fix that some of you may have seen mentioned. I ended up Recovering to stock MF3, (I was already on MF3). This gave up my root access, and I didn't take any additional steps to hide busy_box or anything like that, after my MF3 recovery it looked like I was safely unrooted and I contacted AT&T support via web-chat, and they asked some questions and sent me to a nearby AT&T device center. I took it there, they didn't ask a single question about how it happened, whether I had rooted it, etc(although I was paranoid that there would be traces left behind and they would turn me away). Long story short, they replaced the phone no questions asked!
In my opinion it would seem that while this problem could in some cases be caused by rooting and tinkering, it's enough of a known issue to AT&T that they would replace it under warranty. Hopefully Bell or other carriers would do the same. My advice is to try your carrier, particularly if you are with AT&T.
Just to help people who are searching for a solution. I had flashed a T-Mobile rom and my wifi stopped being togglable on my AT&T S4. That is, I couldn't turn on wifi. The button would get stuck on. After trying to flash what I thought was the right MK2 modem and still having the same issue, I thought I was out of luck. However, I found this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=3275 and hit paydirt. Flashing it using Safestrap and then wiping cache and delvik worked. The file is called jflteatt-MK2-modules.zip.
Only for WIFI, for me what worked was I had to open a litte bit the one side of the phone and close it again (removing a little the plastic, like if you were going to open the device) Wifi started working again, no need to flash any roms, it seemed to be something related with pressure, humidity or something inside the phone.
Regarding bluetooh I had no luck still not working, only keeps saying activating and never gets activated.
does anyone find a solution for this yet?
I have had the same issue for months. Started after warranty was up. I have AT&T on nc1. I tried everything mentioned here but nothing worked. Even left it with the phone repair guys for a week with no luck. It first started after I flashed Hyperdrive ROM. A reboot helped for a while. It actually came back for a week on Kevp's ROM, but then had an error that reboot the phone and lost it again. Phone is now on Craigslist and I am back to my S2. On a high note it's nice to not have a unlocked bootloader again.
you need to flash the exact same model/firmware's modem file atleast thrice before giving up.... i have a simalar issue the thing is my model number is 1377z and google doesnt have a working flashable modem file for it so basically i am screwed too wifi calling and video recording doesnt work....
update :: saw that you got it replaced !!
smoooth .....

Just tried this on my sgh-i337m that was having the same wifi issues after rooting and flashing a kernel. Rebooted and wifi is up and running. So far so good. Thanks a lot!
Hi - I'm very new to the forum and less new to custom ROMs and software.
In the last few days I installed solk2's unofficial CyanogenMod port, 20140711 root build. Went well; overjoyed to be rid of Samsung's bloatware. Thanks!
Since then, updated to first 20140808 and now 20140813. Used CWM recovery (installed via theunlockr dot com/2013/12/09/install-custom-recovery-samsung-galaxy-s4-gt-i9506shv-e330s/) directly instead of CM Updater - updater downloads the builds but when it reboots into recovery to apply them the process there cannot find the build file to install.
I've noticed:
1) When making / receiving calls, the face sensor doesn't appear to work any more - before CM, the sensor would notice when the phone is held to my cheek and blank the display, and light it up when I move the phone away. No longer.
2) The front start button doesn't appear to wake up the device from sleep any more (maybe I've missed a setting to toggle for that?)
3) the CM updater doesn't appear to work, as mentioned above
4) CyanDelta doesn't know about this set of nightlies I think - I've tried it a couple of times and it doesn't pick up deltas
5) the power button doesn't wake the device when it has darkened due to being on a call; instead it may cause the device to flash its screen up but then immediately darken again
1 & 5 make it quite difficult to control the phone during calls. Initially I thought this might have to do with ShakeCall, but the issues persist after uninstalling that.
I've cleared my cache and dalvik cache after the most recent flash to 0813.
I should say, this is relating to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2767448 and I'd have posted there but I cannot yet.
This is still an issue for me with cm-11-20140909.
Is there anything I can do to help find and fix these items?
Is this the right place to ask, even? Does @solk2 work?

Proximity sensor fixed a long ago. There something wrong in yours phone. Install this recovery. Then try clean install of latest nightly or SNAPSHOT-M10 and set update recovery in Developer settings. Recovery you have has different mount points so thats why it can't find updates.
Delta updates isn't supported though.

Thank you very much - I'm running 20140914 and the proximity sensor now works during calls.
