You could fill it with linux disk images, then format it, i don't know how else you can secure-erase a micro sd card

Well i still don't think there is a way to do this other than to copy off the sd card anything you want to keep, delete everything or format the card, now here is the issue, there is no way i know of to securely-erase a sd card, so fill it up with junk, thats why i said linux images, then format it and you should have a securely wiped card.
Now you can copy back on whatever you want.
Thanks will try

My guess is, you want to securely erase all your data from the card except a few useful files right, well, sadly there is no way to securely erase sd or micro sd cards, or usb flash drives etc. Format is not secure, all your data could easily be recovered.
Easiest way i can think of, to blank it so none of your old data can be recovered is the method i suggested.
You could try a software based solution like this
Others may have better suggestions, but the method i suggest should work.
How much u sellin it for

me too, I am selling mine also.
If you need to securely wipe the SD card do a google search. You will find many methods and apps to securely wipe the data - but if the data is really sensitive do not include the SD Card with the phone.
If you do not have sensitive data on the card simply reformat it.
The effort you make destroying the data on the card is proportional to the value of the data. If the data is very sensitive you will destroy the card or keep it rather than pass it on to someone else.
Besides, your mom has already posted your baby pictures on Facebook - what have you got to hide?

I'm not sure i heard it was just for apps however you us connect using PC mode it opens a drive to that 8 gb internal memory. It has some drivers and PC applications that you can install from it. I didn't try writing anything to it at the time and I'm not sure you can. Give it a try and let me know.

Why WOULDN'T you want it is the question...
I like the idea all app data in one place and my data in another. Especially since the card can't pop out by accident. Why fill internal mem with media and then complain about no room for apps, imo of course.

So.. For some goofy reason... for the past 2 hours my Fascinate has been asking me to Turn off USB Storage, and it tells me that its Preparing SD Card...
Here is the kicker... Its not plugged in to anything...
I have a Voodoo 0.2 Kernel with 1.2Ghz on the Fly... It has been working since I last posted about a week or 2 ago... So if its nothing I can fix, I would like to know how to properly Hard reset the phone... I am afraid to just go to Privacy, and Wipe Data, etc... Voodoo is weird...
I will try a few things in the mean time, but any help is appreciated.
(EDIT) I tried to plug it in to the computer, and I can't get it to mount without it wanting to prepare the SD card... I was going to put on a Voodoo/disable_lagfix but running into a problem with that...
Goodluck. I'm blaming voodoo.

Fml... again.. Dont RTFM... I have tried a Odin Restore to stock, and its just chilling at the Verizon Wireless screen now... I am waiting for it to kick back on (hopefully)...
I did put a Voodoo/disable_lagfix... I had to use lightning speed. lol.
How long should a boot up take after a Odin restore?
Ok. Voodoo sucks. I lost my info on my phone.
BUT IT FIXED MY PROBLEM! lol.
Standard kernels for me.
Voodoo does suck my phone aint mounting no more so no more flashing anything for me.. FML
Try formatting your sd card?

There's a software online called "minitool power data recovry". It has a price ($40-$145, they have a functional demo), but its performed miracles for me in terms of data recovery.
But my first recomendation, anytime you experience data loss, STOP everything your doing with the drive (or sdcard), every second you try to access it, you might be loosing more and more data.
Sent from an Epic with 4G
After you figure out this mess get Titanium Media Sync so you don't have these problems anymore. I gather you don't have a cwm backup?
Sent from Bonsai 7.1.1.1
Also never pick SetCPU for set changes on boot until you thoroughly test your settings. This way it will restore to stock settings if you lock up and have to reboot. The same goes to Voltage Control or any overclocking/undervolting app. Every phone is different and requires custom settings and extensive testing.

Did I just get a bad card... If its the latter will TEP replace it?

Edit: went to Sprint store and told them about my problem. they didn't ask any questions just replaced the sd card... Unfortunately they said they were out of 16 gb cards so I got an 8, however they gave me the 16 gb bad card back and a business card with the store managers signature on it and said come back in a week with the SD card and they will replace it... Seems like I'll get to keep the 8 gigger (as he put it) too...
I saw this problem earlier in the week, and my friend's epic wiped all pics/videos- blanked it, but somehow kept the apps.. the data was still there- I used diskdigger (pc app from diskdigger.org, which you have to pay for- i think it's $15 now) and an usb sd card reader. I did a surface scan for traces of files (dig deeper), where you have to tell it what to look for (eg: look for .jpgs only), and it pulled up a ton of files- some of them browser cache files, some were the missing pics, etc. I guess you could use any file recovery program, but the thing to remember: if you think you lost everything, don't use the sd card! Writing anything to it might write over the files you are trying to recover. A new 16gb card off amazon is around $30. I'd love to know why the epic erases everything.
I have had a kernel do this to me twice in the past. Turned out to be some error in script. It has long since been fixed. It was like my SD card got formatted. Everything was gone. Hope that's not the case for you. Out of curiousity, which kernel did you flash?

Bad SD card or power interrupted during file transfer. Format the card (FAT, full format vs. Quick format) would be my recommendation - if it fails during a full format you should consider a new Micro SD card.
I'm formatting now it shows 0 storage in lost everything it really sucks

using some recovery software to recover it, but it sucks with long filenames, so i now have to rename whatever it finds

Should have put it in your pc. Probably could have saved your data.
Hi
I have been having this exact problem with my external SD card, I started a thread long ago about it.
The biggest danger so to speak is that the card may be a counterfeit.
There is a software to test this, its freeware so no worries people and you dont need to install it you just run it and it will tell you if the card is pretty much fake or heavily defective or even if its a low class card in a high class casing.
Read the instructions while you run the test and you will understand how it works, the test takes some time and depending on the size of the card of course just have patience. I have had very bad problems lately with memory cards that i bought so now I use this every time when i buy a new card.
God I hate fake things but worst I hate those who sell them.
Attached is the freeware.
Cheers.

Sounds like a bad SD card
So I just seen that the SGS3 supports EXFat and files over 4gb's now. So if you want a really fast SD card, consider formatting from Fat32 over to exfat, and set block size to 16mb or 32mb. I know most if not all my files are 5mb or way over that, so not much space is wasted! I hope that helps someone

Can you format ex fat in the phone itself or has to be pc? I purchased a 64gb sdxc card and will need to do this.

Why on earth would you want a 32 MB block size? Seems like you would end up with a ton of wasted space.

Well for me I have a lot of movies, huge pictures, music over 7mb. I myself use 16mb. But for people that want full speed from exfat will select 32mb.

Yes. I know it sounds scary, but most small items are stored on the phone sdcard.

Performance gain will be nominal. You're talking a phone here, not a database server dealing with heavy iOPS. I have a 64GB Class 10 in mine and performance could not be better. I also had a ***** of a time getting the card to register after I let my PC format it, had to, absolutely had to, let the device format it.
Note: I'm a heavy performance user who goes for maximum battery without overly sacrificing performance. Professionally, I build and configure SAN's for Exchange, SQL and vSphere. I make no claims to being a phone development god (thought about refreshing my skills there but frankly, don't have the time), BUT I'm also VERY good at what I do.

Had the same problem. I had no option but to let the phone format it. Delete the partition in windows and then you can format it. If you find another way though, let me know!
Sorry misread your post, I had the same error and had to let it reformat. Did you unplug it and put it into your PC? Were any corrective scans or anything done?
I removed everything back off the card, formatted it to fat32 and copied everything back to it, put it back in the phone and it's still saying it's damaged. Sucks, it's been in my EVO3D for a week now with no problems.

Well I must say now I'm worried. But I'm still going to test, I copy huge files to and from on a regular basis, if it saves me 3% in time each time, that is still worth it to me in the long run. I have very little patience, and all that time adds up.
