Kernel discussion - XPERIA X8 General

So what is the latest with bootloader?
Lets discus everything here, where everyone can speak
and moreover that thread should be kept clean because a lot of work has still to be done.

Greetings.
warning.
if you are not developer, please quit reading that post.
wait for user friendly tool with one big button.
here ( View attachment 712577 ) is toolset to permanently "unlock" semcboot of msm7227 semc phones.
that means, you can use own kernel and so on.
steps,precautions, etc.
unpack archive to any directory.
if you using eset antivirus or similar ****, it will find evil virus in adb.exe.
ignore that, it is not virus in any way, it is standard android debug bridge, bundled in one file to save space and usability.
now, if your phone unlocked officially:
flash phone with standard 2.0,2.1 android firmware, because kernel mapper module compiled for "2.6.29" kernel.
of course, enable "usb debugging"
run msm7227_semc.cmd,
( if you want, examine it before run, it is pretty straightforward. )
you will get similar output
Code:
process requires standard 2.x android firmware.

Writing patched semcboot. Two step process
First, we need get access to semcboot area

Second, we need to write semcboot ;)
1130 KB/s (596916 bytes in 0.515s)
successfully wrote 0003ff00
Press any key to continue . . .
bingo, your phone now has unlocked bootloader.
if your phone unlocked by setool2 software, use msm7227_setool2.cmd
if your phone unlocked by 3rd-party software other than setool2, do not run anything -
it will disable radio capability of your phone and you will need to unlock phone by setool2 software.
hopefully, mizerable flea and mOxImKo will release something similar for your phone.
okay, now about other details.
1.
unlocked bootloader require unlocked loader, yep ?
loader\loader.sin is special unlocked loader, which will be accepted ONLY after your "unlock" semcboot with previous steps.
to distinguish unlocked semcboot and original semcboot, first letter in version tag of semcboot output will be lower case, i. e. "r8A029"
( same applies for loader version tag )
so, all that stuff with signatures are not for us, so i removed them - loader will ignore signature part of SIN file.
2.
we should make SIN file somehow, right ?
for that i prepared "dumb" bin2sin utility.
[input] - is input binary file.
[partition info]
android implementation on s1 semc qualcomm phones based on partitions,so we MUST define it for our file.
you can get required partition info from standard semc sin files, it is first 0x10 bytes of DATA, right after header, i.e.
[type] - partition type, 9 - partition without spare, 0xA - partition with spare.
kernel partition is partition without spare.
if that parameter omitted, type = 9
[block size] - nand block size, if omitted, it is standard size 0x20000
there is example in sinTools\example_build.cmd
3.
kernel should be prepared specially to be accepted by semcboot.
for that there is tool bin2elf.
we need 2 segments:
segment 1 is unpacked linux kernel image, i.e.
( e10/kernel/arch/arm/boot/Image )
it looks like entrypoint and load address for segment 1 is always same for all msm7227-based semc phone, it is 0x00208000
attributes for image 0x0
segment 2 is ramdisk.
it looks like entrypoint and load address for segment 1 is always same for all msm7227-based semc phone, it is 0x01000000
set attributes for ramdisk 0x80000000, that is extremly important.
there is simple kernel example in sinTools\example_build.cmd
ps.
@blagus:
NAND MPU disabler has only one relation to rFoNe - he took it from setool2, together with entire idea for msm7227 bypass.
your 6-wings friend with many nicks done exactly same.
NAND MPU has nothing to do with memory firewall, so it will not help with kexec things, however, who will care now.

I like to take this opportunity to thank all the devs involved in this process, especially blagus as he was the driving force behind this, without him I doubt
the bl would have been cracked and also I am really thankful to an new X8 hero the_laser for achieving something that will change our devices and enable devs to develop our phones much further than ever.

OP, please include original post in BL thread from the_laser in 1st post, this will keep non dev's out of BL thread in dev section and hopefully keep it clean, Thank you.
I dont think true multitouch is supported by synaptics hardware so we prob never have real multitouch.
I think Blagus confirmed that sim lock is seperate to kernel so prob wont be able to unlock device from network.
Above comments need conformation from a dev.

So, the bootloader unlock is done. Now users like me Can know that "We must wait for a super one button press program." em'I right?

if we unlock our bootloader from original se firmware, will we still be able to flash a custom rom, i.e. froyobread and still have it unlocked?

Congrat to all dev... Finally our X8 can be free up from SE kernel.
So... To unlock we need to flash original 2.1 firmware... Then we can still able to install current custom ROM or we must wait for new custom ROM after unlock?
Sent from my Shakira using XDA App

Can anyone sumup what doors does this open in terms of development? Increase in performance, additional features?

Nothing more than the hardware allows... next... kernel...

You can install them already...what d' ya need BL unlock? I can't believe the stuff I 'm reading... ppl wondering if they'll be able to use current roms after unlock...
Except for the devs who will take advantage of this for making better roms u need not bother about it. No one forces u to do anything right now... use the phone and wait...

I'm talking about compatibility not asking some noob question, as far as I can see no one else was yet to ask and I was curious, so why can't I?
I wanted to know that if i unlocked my bootloader in preparation for custom kernels would I still be able to install the custom ROMs that i have come to so enjoy and appreciate, you don't exactly have the answer so don't come in and try to indirectly flame me.

i THINK i remember reading somewhere that if we unlocked the bootloader we could remove the fps cap. or maybe im just dreaming?

no more fps, meaning that games will be ultrafast?

just dont get too excited guys there are no official announcement especially from the developers. did anyone here tried to unlock there bootloader using that method and confirm if its really does unlocked/bypass the bootloader? For now answer "NONE", so i guess lets wait and be patient, disappointments are always around. My observation and opinion tells me that if its already confirmed Blagus will actually reconstruct the first page of Bootloader Dev thread for confirmation, that what i thought.

I unlocked the bootloader on my x8 while running GingerDX and MPU disabler tool. I think that you should wait for further information before unlocking your bootloader.
@Questioner
Is this unlock of bootloader a bootloader bypass or bootloader crack?
@Mika Dee
Blagus has reconstructed the first few posts already.

Unlock a BL isn't useful if there's no new kernel, and it will takes a lot of time to write a kernel.

yeah, whait for tsunami tunning x8

There are already 2 other threads about the same subject... Unlike u, I already saw ppl asking the same thing which u say u haven't... Do whatever u want m8. Whether u try the unlock or not this soon won't hurt me. You can put a tail on it and call it a weasel. I was trying to explain that the whole point of this breakthrough is the use of better kernel for starters... It's like you 're too eager to unlock the bl without anything to benefit from it afterwards. I can't do what the devs will, the ones this unlock is mainly targeted to, for now.

Well then I do apologise for picking the thread which seemed to be the most active, rather than going anywhere else to ask being as I thought this thread would be the place for me to get the quickest VALID answer (@SpyderX - Cheers for that mate, I unlocked mine successfully on FroyoBread V023b UD11b) And being as you don't seem to know what I do, which is testing for developers here and there on different sides of the Forum with my mates HTC Widlfire S, so why should I not? I'm not jumping to the conclusion that I will actually end up testing for any one of the many brilliant developers here, but why not plan ahead? As far as I am concerned you have yet to give the answer i was looking for, someone else has managed to help me out, so save yourself the effort of replying, I'm sure your useless comments are needed elsewhere.
Beans.

Little update: X10 mini pro are about to have their first kernel. Looks like devs have the capability to build a kernel very fast ;D. X10 mini already have custom kernel. X10 has their first bootloader unlock kernel rather than bypass kernel.

necessary stuffs ...

Well, necessary stuff is USPL.
A stock ROM will also be nice.
dont have one (well have one on my phone)... wouldnt know how to get it off the phone either...so ill leave that for someone else
maybe you can post it suracha?
What do we need?
We need help from an XDA-Developer to create USPL for unlock our device so we can flash unOfficial ROM, I have never worked on this.
So far, I can read the ROM from device and play with it. I believe this is at the same progress as GUIGOU's work. BTW, he also hosts his works on the internet. You may review following threads ...
HTC 3470 (Pharos) Orange French Dump
HTC P3470 Pharos : Searching an Backup Rom
In order to play with customized ROM, I also need Official ROM to re-flash my device ... just in case, you know.
I asked htc Asia last week about an Official ROM, they said the device is new, they may release Official ROM in the future but not now.
I think we should talk to an XDA-Developer who ever made USPL for some device. We do need it !!!

Pharos ROM to Create
I've come across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334667
It is a technique called JumpSPL. Sound good to me for start fooling with my Pharos. (Thank Pof)
quote from the original post says
Notes on patching & testing custom SPLs:
* Disassemble the SPL using radare (free) or IDA Pro (commercial).
* You need to press the bootloader buttons after loading your custom SPL with JumpSPL, otherwise device will reboot. You can also patch the SPL to enter bootloader mode automatically, so you don't have to press the buttons.
* Some devices require that you unplug and re-plug the USB cable after the SPL has been loaded.
* On some devices (TI OMAP) you'll see a white screen instead of the usual tri-color screen, don't worry about that, you're in bootloader mode.
* Use patched SPLs with caution, try to flash splash screens to do the initial tests and avoid bricking your device.
* To know the jump address you can use itsutils 'pmemdump -p' and try to find a copy of the SPL in memory. You can find the virtual address with dumpromx.exe.
I try both bkondisk = http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-285003.html and pdocread => http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_HowtoDumpRom in order to get my SPL.
Now I am unsuccessfully locating Pharos' SPL...... Worse, I have known of neither Radar or IDA Pro. so That would take a long while until I can convince myself to try the JumpSPL.
Post back if I get any progess.
PS.. to Suracha.. if DopodAsia don't release one soon, don't U think some technical guy at SIS Distribution (Thailand) will have one? if U know some one inside....worth try asking for luck.

Yep, I am thinking about that.
Hopefully, they should have one.
good progress!
I personally am new to the pda thing, but with proper how to's Id like to tinker with the Pharos.
I saw a thread where an older htc was said to have gps built in but not activated... you can do a search but also check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-293182.html
so it might be the case that we have wifi and 3g but simply disabled.. just like in the touch (elf)
would be cool if this was the case huh?
Got it

Eris Goldcard - Giving it another try...

Alright, so we have certainly come into a problem here. We have a rooted 1.5 release, but we can't find any way to downgrade from 2.1 to 1.5. So how do we do it? Well I noticed no matter what device, whether it be the MyTouch Fender Edition or the CDMA Hero; they have had success using a goldcard to downgrade. Unfortunately, the eris team has had no luck in doing the same. Has anyone tried using the successor of QMat to create the goldcard?
So anyone running 2.1 on the Eris can give this a try. Follow the CDMA Hero Goldcard tutorial on this site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
Except instead of using the QMAT application in step one, download the PSAS application from this site: http://psas.revskills.de/?q=node/6
After you create your goldcard: Try flashing the MR1 or MR2 update. You can find the MR2 from here http://www.pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=126&cid=1&mid=353&carrier=Verizon Wireless .
If this new application does not work, I will attempt to contact the developers of QMAT, as a goldcard should work if it is working properly.
psas 1.07
Downloaded PSAS 1.07 from your link and run it through AVG anti-virus with the following results.
psas.zip";"Virus identified Win32/Themida";"Infected"
are these false or is this really infected.
I can verify that is how my gold card was made and it does not work.

This is what PSAS claims on their site: "All downloads from this site are confirmed to be 100% virusfree. Some virus scanners however (like NOD) tend to report it as virus, although it isn't."
Feels a bit like I'm kicking a dead horse, however;
I've also created a gold card and was unable to get the RUU to run its course. Sad day for 2.1 ers
Gold card DOES NOT work with 2.1. I'm assuming that they messed with how they are created in the newer hboot version. Thanks apreichner for talking to the devs for us!
Hi everyone. It's my first post, but I've been following your activity with some interest. I did a little research on goldcards and QMAT/PSAS.
Turns out that as of a year ago anyway, the PSAS dev team was two people: viperbjk and cmonex, who are members of this forum. I also discovered that the latest version of PSAS only generates goldcards for older devices like the G1 unless you register the software and pay viperbjk a fee. Here's some of the drama surrounding that decision (not a full link since I'm not yet allowed): showthread.php?t=485364&page=21
Before there was QMAT, there was a Perl script called typhoonnbfdecode.pl which was developed by itsme, also a forum member. This script was written for HTC Windows Mobile devices, but I gather that the CID encryption algorithm is similar for our Android devices. I think that QMAT/PSAS is just a another implementation of the algorithm, although extended for newer devices (i.e. some extra reverse engineering that viperbjk & cmonex are now charging for). There's lots of old information in the forum about the itsme Perl script, but the links for the Perl script seem broken. However I found a copy on the web (don't know if its the latest version), and it is attached.
So anyway, it seems to me that we either need to rediscover how to make a goldcard for the newer Android devices (starting with the itsme script), or start paying off the PSAS dev team...
lurker/n00b question here
What is PSAS supposed to be doing, exactly?
From all I can tell by the instructions, I'm simply reversing the string that I got from the adb command (although, in my case, it's dropping the last character from the initial string in the reversed output).. I'm assuming it's no better at reversing strings than QMAT, so I figure I must be missing something?

you are wrong about applying the itsme algo, the newer devices use a completely different one.
So how much would it take to have a gold card made for the eris? There were quite a few people willing to pool together for root. I dont see the difference.
@stingbliss: Depending on how you read the CID off the SD card, the bytes may be reversed. So the first step is always to get them in the right order. You can easily do this by hand or you can use PSAS to do it for you. Then there is an encryption algorithm which involves the CID and some device-specific keys that PSAS performs to generate a Goldcard image. That's my interpretation anyway.
@JTF2007: If you are willing to pay for a Goldcard, I think you can do it today using a registered version of PSAS. Eris shows up in the software's device list, so I assume that it is supported (though you might want to check with the devs before paying). You can create up to 5 Goldcards with your registered software. So the difference is that each person pays--a pool does not deliver root for all.

Well, I didn't have yet a look at the 2.1 one, but I'll have a look at it right now
in order to confirm whether the same algo is used and if they just disabled downgrade by version check (as they did with all other android phones) OR
if they use a new goldcard algo (or even disabled it).
So From what I picked up Gold card is still a posibility?
Ok, here is the news :
The algorithm is just the same. The protection is just the same as for all other newer SPLs. And yes, downgrade using goldcard isn't possible. There is a security check that will allow to downgrade the version only if the device is security unlocked (S-OFF not S-ON).

Goldcard : it gives supercid, which means you can write any rom with any cid.
S-ON : Security Lock, a flag in NAND to switch between developer and
production rom ... also known as "full root". If ram can be written,
the flag can be temporary set to S-OFF. If nand can be written,
you can permanently switch to S-OFF.

Im wondering if someone can post pics of the motherboard I'll attempt a NAND dump if there are points for me to jtag it.

[Q] Bricked :( after OTA update

I can't get my phone on. It vibrates 1 time after i press the power-button.
What to do know.. Could I bring the device back to the store or does the rooted-thingy i've done voids the warranty?
Typically, rooting voids your warantee.
Dont tell them you rooted your device, especially if your only dealing with a network provider, just tell them u ran the ota and it bricked your phone
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk
Rooting voids the software not the hardware.
Tell them " I dunno what happened it doest work anymore"
simple as that.

Yeah I have only rooted the device with ginger break 1.1 ..... Is it safe to ota update or do I need to unlock the bootloader first? Has anyone updated yet ? Ps I really hate the stock keyboard its so bad at predicting words any advice on a better keyboard can one be burnt to a custom Rom so its the stock keyboard ?....
well i picked up my new one yesterday, rooted with gingerbreak and then did an OTA I had no problems, I think it's only if you have a modified bootloader that causes issue's.
Personally Im not unlocking this bootloader until custom roms start appearing like Cynogen.

I will be screwed if they found out I rooted my phone...

Before handing it over, please help others by trying what Blagus asks in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13907464#post13907464 and post the output from the log of Omnius software.
Thanks!

Report to us. What happened next?
SE sent me my phone back. They said the phone is irreparable.
Yesterday I went back to T-mobile and they found it weird, normally SE would exchange an irreparable phone for a new one.
T-mobile will contact me in 5 days, they want to investigate this.
So I think i'm screwed

Please don't take this the wrong way...its just a question...nothing implied.
Whats the need or attraction to unlock the VP? What is gained?
Again, please don't read into the question...its just a question.
You can downgrade to retail wp7 7004 t-mobile by using tutorial from next thread: unbricking dvp. Just flash retail ffu, by mensioned methode and here you are.
be carefull: any errors during flashing may cause a brick.

Ya i am wondering the same thing as Chevron7 never supported the DVP, there seems to be no reason to do this? unless maybe you want to try and interop-unlock the phone but again that has never been done... yet
Some of us are developes/tinkerers that love to mess with whatever we own.
Dev/interop unlocking is part of this, you could simply unlock to fiddle around with the contents of the rom and just that much.
If WP7 had something as well made as root explorer, that in it of itself is reason enough to unlock. You can learn a lot about an os just by figuring out how it ticks. (Just one of many reasons to unlock, your mileage may vary)

[MICRO GUIDE] Bootloader Unlock Trick

I am creating this thread as a follow up to this one HERE. It is to discuss an important topic/trick whereby the carrier on our x8 can be unlocked. I welcome with wide arms any comments about whether this worked on your phone. The thread summarises all the key points made there.
Please Delete this thread if this has been discussed already.Requirements:
-A locked bootloader
-The guts to unlock your bootloader
-An x8
-All you need to do is unlock your bootloader through flashtool. Many users including me, have reported a SIM unlock after doing this.
If you have used msm7227 to unlock. The only way you can do this is by relocking.
Although many may already know this I have created this tiny guide to help new users understand this.
