It seems to not be using the default notification sound I chose in Sound> Notifications. There is not an option in the Mail app itself to chose the sound...only to activate the notification or not.
How do I control the notification sound in the mail app?
Thanks
(Im using the Synergy ROM)
Are you asking about the notification sound for Mail (not Gmail)?
I am using MikG but I think it is in the same place for Synergy:
From the home screen: Menu, Settings, Personalize, Notification Sound, Email.

Thats correct.
I tried that. When I go to Setting> Personalize....it closes the settings menu and goes right back to the homescreen. WTF?
Try zedge app from market and you will never look back.

Great App. But it doesnt allow me to specify where I want the notification sound to be. It's just the general notification sound....not specifically the "Mail" app.
Thanks
perhaps "volume control +" will do as you need.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cb.volumePlus&feature=search_result
you may also want to try to 'reset permissions'. this can be done via ROM manager in the gui or via AmonRa in the recovery console. not sure why your settings app is mussed up. have you asked in the synergy thread?

Can you tell me more about how to 'reset premissions' in ROM manager? I see "fix permissions". Is this what I want?
I have not commented in the Synergy thread. I will do that now. Thanks

It seems strange that you can not get the Personalize settings to come up. I think you should also be able to get there from Menu > Personalize or by hitting the right button (palette) on the home screen. I do not have Synergy at the moment but when I did I recall that working.
If that is not working I would suspect a problem with the way your ROM was flashed.

You mean Menu > Settings > Personalize? Obviously, since there is not a "personalize" option as soon as you hit the "menu" button

yeah...sorry, "fix permissions".
if that doesn't correct it, a reflash is prolly a good idea. make sure to at minimum wipe Cache and DalvikCache when you flash. if the issue persists, it may be time to do a a full wipe.

OK...So I reflashed. Menu > Personalize still just closes the settings menu and goes right back to the homescreen. So no fix there
Now, I have no app shortcuts on the lock screen. I hope I dont need to reflash again. Any idea whats going on?
It really sounds like you have something messed up in the system settings. I have had strangeness like this when I flashed and restored some system data using Titanium before. What happens if you do a full wipe (system, data, dalvik, cache) then flash the ROM. Try it before you restore anything or flash any mods. I know this (Settings > Personalize) worked for me before on Synergy RLS1. I also know that I had the missing lockscreen widgets before when I restored some settings that I should not have.

I did restore via Titanium. I'll try a full wipe then reflash and check everything before I restore. So lets say everything is the way it should be after I reflash without restoring...what should I do to ensure I do screw those settings up when I do restore with Titanium?
Thanks
I was able to restore all of my user apps and user data with Titanium without trouble. You can get into trouble when you restore system data.
I think the last time the only things that I restored (system data) was the Voicemail messages (data from Voicemail T.5.1.0.60) Bookmarks, and my SMS messages (Might be called SMS/MMS Prefs, not sure). You should be able to restore most everything but only if the backup is from the same ROM. You get into trouble when you restore the system data from a different ROM.

So I should just back-up the apps in Titanium and not the data? I back up call log and SMS in Google anyway. So none of the data contained within the apps will be restored and that will all have to be re-entered?
I usually backup all User Apps + Data and backup all System Data (not the apps). You should not really need to backup and restore any of the System apps as they apps will come with the ROM.
The thing that seems to cause the most problem is restoring data for an app or component of the ROM that is not compatible. I have seen this happen when I restored things like Accounts, Accounts & Sync, Email Account settings or any HTC specific (desktops, sense settings, etc).

I'm running the 2.3.15 deodexed leak with root. Whenever there is a notification for either exchange, facebook, or pop3/imap email, the status bar/drop down is missing its icon. There is just a while space where the icon should be. Also, when I go into the messaging application, everything except the global inbox and sms have a standard closed-envelope icon, instead of the default icons.
I was running the 2.3.9 leak for a day or two, but don't remember if the icons were present or not. I noticed it after loading 2.3.15, though.
Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.
Bump...anyone know where I can look for these files to make sure they're still there?
Updated to the 2.2 OTA with the SBF, but did not wipe data and the icons are still missing. Does anyone know if it's possible to reinstall the messaging application?
I'd just make a backup of your information to your SD card and wipe cache/date... Simplest fix.

Do you mean the entire phone, or just the messaging app...I tried doing just the app. I'm a little uneasy about wiping the whole phone. I use Titanium backup, but I don't know what actually gets restored after a full wipe.
It looks like your best bet at this point. You did a full SBF and it didn't solve your problem. That only leaves the cache or data as your problem, right? Clear the cache first. It won't affect any of your information and might have the error in there somewhere. If it doesn't solve the problem make sure you have the Google backup enabled in your privacy settings. Once your sync icon disappears wipe data and cache. When you reactivate your phone it will restore your stuff.
I was wondering how to backup an app WITHOUT backing up the data along with it. I have been having permission problems with my restores after flashing new roms. I believe it has something to do with the user data that comes with the apps.
Basically, how do I backup apps alone, without any of my personal data coming along with it?
Is there such a function on Titanium Backup? I have been using this.

With Titanium Backup you can restore Apps one by one. or as a batch option. You do not have to back up personal data with the app data.
This is what i do when i switch ROMs. I just skip the sign in, then log in via the accounts and sync option, then use the market to download T/Backup and batch restore and allow Google to re-sync my phone and use tit/bac for my apps.

Right, that is what I meant. When you just backup apps alone, the app data comes along with it. For example, when I restore angry birds alone, I still have all of my accolades. I was wondering how I could restore apps similar to freshly installing it onto my phone.

Yes. If you do a batch restore you can have it do "restore apps with data" and it will act like you never left the game.

Yes you can also restore apps w/o user data.
you can also unlink apps from the market. So like with the recent flash update you can unlink the app from the market so you do not get market updates. so i can keep 10.1 and not worry about 10.2.
So how would I do that?

after you've rooted
after you've made sure s=off
you need to install the TB from the market and the Pro Key
once you you do that open the app up, download BusyBox via the "problems" button.
Then go to the "backup/restore" button and pick what you want to freeze/backup/restore
if you want to do a batch option from the main screen press the menu > BATCH > then select what you want to .

You can also try MyBackup Root. Its free and a little easier to use than Titanium. Seems to work great for me.
As well as ES file explorer or AntTek app manager.
[via XDA app]
I would like to move from Rubix to Liberty but I was curious, am I able to save ALL of my application settings (ie ADW settings) and transfer between ROMS (home screen and app data staying the same as well) or am I looking a fresh install?
Both Yes and No are the correct answer. Let me explain why:
If You are asking about just plain backups of ROMS so you can test one then go back to another then YES is the answer, You can use bootstrapper as long as you are staying on the same android version; IE froyo 2.2 or Gingerbread 2.3
Now if you are asking about transfering all your apps / data from 1 rom to another in a matter of seconds then no. But to be more honest with you its more of a "kinda"
This is because google automatically saves all your contacts / calender / etc. (main android apps) data to their servers. Motorola ALSO has a backup program that if you are a part of (and your rom supports) will automatically re-download all of your apps you had on your old phone (but not the save data IE saved games, or prefs)
There is however ANOTHER WAY as well: Get titanium backup pro. IF you are rooted (which you should be if you are talking about roms) Get Titanium backup which basically saves all your apps as well as your data in them to your SDCard. This is VERRRRY useful especially if you like to switch between roms frequently like I do.
The only thing it doesnt do is put the icons on your home screen the way they were last time. It just basically re-installs them with the data attached
Hope that helps.

Am I doing something wrong? I've restored the calls using a special program that makes its own backup, but I'd rather do it all from within TB if that was possible.
I've restored all of the green items and rebooted, but the logs did not come back.
I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that TB backs up call logs. As much as the developer maintains it you'd think he would build that in, but I'm not aware of such a feature.
Called logs are part of 'system data', which I don't think is a 'green item' in TB. Try restoring all system data. Also, if you are going from one version of Android to another, you may have to enable "migrate system data" option in TB's preferences.
"Dialer Storage" is the item that holds your call logs and sms/mms messages
It backs up my call logs...
Also, this would be better in q & a

My logs are restored when I use restore all apps and system data. You have to be careful about doing that between firmware versions.

I use both this and TB. Personally I like MyBackup for backup and restore of SMS, MMS, and call logs. TB I use for restoring individual applications and their data. But I used both to backup everything just in case one of them fails to backup and/or restore something.
Why isn't the play store restoring my apps? I've signed into gmail on the intial set up. When I open up the play store, there are no apps listed. It takes a min or 2 before only 6 or so apps show up under the install tab. When I move over to the all tab, I can see the apps that I've installed previously. I've used 4.3 ROMs on my Rezound, and all my apps download without any intervention on my part.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've installed Carbom, AICP, and Validus all with the same results with this phone.

Isn't there a checkbox when you first boot a new ROM that asks if you want the phone to automatically backup and restore your apps? Maybe this sin't being checked somehow. In any case, and I'm guessing here, go to Settings> Backup and reset> see if the Automatic Restore button is checked. If not, then maybe checking it and rebooting would get everything re-installed.
And there is always Titanium Backup (Restore) as well.
Good luck!
Also LG's built in back up/restore is very good. Almost like titanium back up. Restores app data and is completely automated.

I know the setting box you're talking. I've noticed before that there were two boxes to check, but on the g2 I've only seen one to back up my account.
I followed your instructions and that option wasn't enabled. But since I've already installed my apps, nothing is installing. I'll have to see if that fixed the issue, but I don't think it will since I do a clean wipe when switching ROMs.
