Notifications while charging - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I noticed that the notification light is the same as the charging light. Is there anything I can do to force the phone to blink that light for notifications even when charging? Or some other suggested alternative?
I'm totally going through withdrawal symptoms already from my Nexus One's lovely LED trackball.

thanks for this information mate

As I understand it, most of the AOSP-based ROMs (CM7, MIUI, RG, etc) can flash the notification light while charging.

I'm on CM7 RC1. Is there an option to enable? I tested receiving a text message, and I get a blinking light when not charging, but only the solid charging light when plugged in

edit /system/build.prop using something like root explorer and change the line "ro.battery_light=true" to "ro.battery_light=false" and reboot.
i'm not on cm7 at the moment but i think the default behavior has been changed in the nightlies.

Oh sweet. So that would disable the charge light completely except for notifications?
Ideal would be if the charge light still works, but it changes to blinking with notifications.

I am looking at build.prop now. I don't see an entry for the battery light.

I tried adding the line manually. No change. Light still comes on when I plug in the charger.

increase notification light frequency

Okay, I know everyone is probably annoyed at how infrequently the LED blinks. I think its once every 10 seconds.
Also, no light while charging.
Anybody know of an app to fix this?
Light Flow works great.

Just figured out how to use light flow. Thanks
Sorry to bring up this old thread, but I'm looking for a simpler solution - Light Flow is too much for what I need. I want to keep the default behavior of the notification light but I just want it to blink faster. Is there a system config file where I make the duration faster? Thanks.
I use Lightflow and it works just perfectly.

Thanks, but what I'm really looking for is a system config file or framework file to change.

How to enable notification light for gmail?

As title states...is there a trick to do this? Notification led works fine for texts, but I get nothing for gmail. Thanks

There's an app called Lightflow on the Play Store that works great for changing the notification light settings. There is so much customization you can do, it's a really great app I would definitely recommend that you check it out.
Just tried that...didn't work. I always used light manager...didn't work at all. Can someone confirm ye or ne that gmail led notification works on this phone?

Looks like there is no way to have multi colored led lights using third party apps...light manager nor lightflow will change colors. Bummer

The LG notification light software could be overriding third-party program settings. When you use the notification test mode in lightflow, the LED does show up as whatever color you configured for that notification. I just got the phone and I haven't had a chance to really mess around with the notification light so I'm not sure.
Test mode only shows red no matter what color you choose in both light manager and lightflow

Then u have a defective phone...
alright, this is what I do to get mine to work.
Download Light Manager. Make sure operating mode is set to normal. Then just to test the LED settings change the missed call of any normal notifications to a color of your choice. Then under the same menu where you changed the color hit Test. Once you hit test a pop up menu shows up. Says something about screen off or something. Well don't click anything. Just hit the power button on your G2 and turn the screen off. wait 3 seconds and you should see the notification blink the color you just picked. now turn the phone on, click ok and click Restart light manager.
Now for Gmail, or other apps to blink custom colors you need to uncheck the notifications from normal system settings. go to settings - display - Notification led. Don't click the on.off switch, click the words Notification LED. Then uncheck Missed call, meissed messages and missed Emails. well, all of this fixes mine. I have Customs LED set and it works fine.
Hope this helps

[APP] Light Manager Compatibility

I am the developer of Light Manager. It is an app to configure notification LED color and its flashing frequency for different notification types.
I noticed that there are quite a lot of Nexus 5 users are using Light Manager app. Almost comparable to Samsung devices which Light Manager is designed based on. So I would like to make it fully compatible with Nexus 5. One major bug that users reported is the WhatsApp notification LED does not turn off even after notification has been read or cleared. I think it happens to other notification as well.
I don't have a Nexus 5 to test. Could someone willing to help in doing some beta testing? You may PM me or send me an email. I will send you the install apk for beta testing.
Thanks in advanced.
Actually I only start to have problem after update to 5.8, I am using ART

I have no issues with light manager but I don't use whatsapp or art.

You mean the LED notification for hangouts remains blinking even after you have read the message? If you are using normal mode, did you enable "Allow Recreate Notification" in Light Manager > Hangouts option?

Could someone here verify if it happens to you too? Just want to make sure if this bug happens to all Nexus 5 users instead of certain users only. By the way, he is using alternating mode.

I use to use this app a lot but the same issue with the whatsapp app was happening with Google hangouts for some reason.
I really love this app and always use it.
Is it possible to make notifications flash even if the screen is on? (i.e when using another app)

This has to be done at the firmware side instead of application.
Light Manager can support it if manufacturer allows it.

Will custom notifications sounds be implemented in future releases or the donate version?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Sometimes whatsapp notifications keeps blinking even after clearing the notification. It's needed to restart the light manager app.
It would be nice to have a led notification when receiving a call like light flow does.
There is no charging indication too. But I think it's a problem of nexus and not the app.
I keep using this app anyway, I use since a had a galaxy s4.

There's no continuous led when charging.
The s4 behaviour is: when charging, red led continuously, when fully charged green led continuously.
In my recent experience with nexus 5, I can see that, with the stock kernel, it's impossible to have continuous led, only intermittent.
With custom kernels, like Franco or faux, we can see in changelog that there is continuous led implementation.

You can try go to Light Manager > Advanced Settings > Static LED and select option 2. That will give you somehow continuous red LED (In fact it is just 8s on 2s off as reported by other Nexus 5 user).

[HOW TO] Using Light flow on HTC One M8

This guide is written for Android 4.4 and whatever version of Light flow that was the latest at the time. The menus are not the same for the latest version, but the same settings still apply.
1. Settings in Light flow
Check Direct mode, Root mode and HTC alternative mode.
If you are using Android 5.0, also check Run every command as root.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88075/Screenshot_2014-04-22-13-32-08.png
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88075/Screenshot_2014-04-22-13-32-37.png
2. Settings in Android
Uncheck Flash LED notification under Display in settings.
3. Settings for the specific notification
Check Enable Mixer. Choose Solid or Flash under the color you want. Green and amber are the only colors that work.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88075/Screenshot_2014-04-22-13-36-37.png
You can change the flashing pattern by changing the LED brightness. There are only two values that work AFAIK: 1 and 4 (2 and 3 works too but gives the same result as 1).
It's possible to combine the two colors, one solid and one flashing. Note: solid green and flashing amber is not the same as solid amber and flashing green. It is also possible to combine two flashing colors in one specific combination, check list below.
This gives us a total of 11 combinations:
Solid green
Solid amber
Flashing green, value 1
Flashing green, value 4
Flashing amber, value 1
Flashing amber, value 4
Solid green + flashing amber, value 1
Solid green + flashing amber, value 4
Solid amber + flashing green, value 1
Solid amber + flashing green, value 4
Flashing green, value 4 + flashing amber, value 1
All combinations are not easy to see but since the options are very limited it's always nice to have more to choose from.
If this helps you, please click the thanks button!
thanks. My thanks posts are maxed out so have to say thanks the ol' fashioned way.. Now that summer has ended here, our schedule will slow down (got 2 kids under 5, keeps us busy besides everything else!), I'm having big motivation to really learn the other features like camera + video of the phone as I'm OK for the operating system side of things, the past 8 years for me suffering severe chronic pain means I haven't been that keen on learning (new) stuff due to the pain overtaking most things but I'm getting a little bit better, I feel the need for learning!
Posts like this are fantastic for "the vault" and learning to take advantage of stuff besides CPU and GPU 'only'. The other half of the phone is there for the taking for moi now.

On my device the notification LED using lightflow as described stays on!
Note: the solid LED settings gives a dimmed LED regardless of color and values.
With this useful thread I have setup eg. sms with solid green plus blinking amber with success. That makes a difference from the HTC standard always blinking green :good:

There must be way to modify stock .xml file and change duration time for LED notification. Existing 5 min is useless. I whish I know where to look for.

Led notification speed

Hi,
As you probably all noticed, the led notification is so slow, that it is almost useless unless you stare at the phone for like 20 seconds.
Is there a way to change its speed?
Why is Lightflow not working on this device? Color edits work but not speed.
Is it a kernel or software issue?
Thanks

I asked them this in one of their AMAs and their response was that they do not expect to add the ability to change the duration or colors (or give us the ability to change them ourselves)...something along the lines of it would affect everyone, so it is what it is.
I fully agree that the blue color is really impossible to notice and the duration is ridiculously slow. I've tried lightflow, but hate that interface and don't like having to run another app in the background.
I'm just waiting for a more stable version of LineageOS that has the controls built in.

Lightflow can only changes the colors anyway, not the speed/duration.
Is it a kernel or rom edits that is required for that?
