I think Sony, like Dell, made a fundamental marketing mistake by launching their devices on aTnT.... I mean think about it..... if you're already with aTnT, most people are going to choose the cheaper alternative.... in this case, the iPhone. Most people sign up with the DeathStar just so they can get an iPhone, therefore, any competitor should make the obvious choice and launch their competing (higher-priced), iPhone alternative on a non-aTnT network..... Just makes perfect sense to me... When it was available, did ANYONE see a Dell Streak in an aTnT retail store? All aTnT can push is more Apple ****.... leaving any other manufacturer's device as more expensive and "second best" (I actually heard an aTnT employee say this to a customer)... Come on, Sony, get your head outta your ass for Christ's sake!

Well I guess this is good news cuz hopefully this means accessories will be sold at best buy and we could get to see them before powering their ridiculous prices. Hopefully the usb cable will get a price drop as well.
As for froyo, not gonna hold my breath on that one...

Assuming, however it will remain AT&T exclusive.

This is great. I've met so many people that have never even heard of the Streak it's sad. I even had to tell a cust support rep AT AT&T what a Streak was and how I got it. This, too, will get a little more third party (accessories, custom roms, etc) interest focused on this beast of a phone.

Well Micheal Dell himself said this is soon to be sold in Best Buy, so I trust this is not a rumor. Then again he did say the Streak would be avalable for @ the end of June & for $500.

You can easily get o2 Streak from Amazon for just 349 pounds, which is really much better than 399 wish I knew that before I bought mine

Doesnt make much sense. You get a phone like that in, that people have been waiting to see and touch, and you take a couple days to get them out and available? Stupid
Its official ladies & gentlemen. The Dell Streak has arrived @ Best Buy. Hopefully this means more consumer awareness & more support from Dell!!!!!!!!
Picked mine up today and I LOVE the screen it's gorgeous, but I'm having some issues charging it right now - hopefully it sorts itself out soon.
well i do not think there will be any support from dell just like their laptops welcome to the world of dell

Yea it's like Best Buy is overwhelmed with new phones. Lots of new phones are pouring in. I called the store and they said they didn't have 'em in stock yet so I went up there. There was a little display at the end of the aisle with NO demo model in it--it wasn't even charged. I asked and the guy didn't even know what it was. After I held it I fell in love with it. They could tell me NOTHING about the device-I was actually educating them. All they could say was "That's a big a$$ screen!"
Yea...I get that a lot!
LMAO went to the best buy mobile in the mall yesterday and the sales girl kept saying its a small tablet. We said its a phone and she don't believe me. The other sales girl had to correct her and we explained that it is a phone and can make calls and stuff. She felt like a moron.

UPDATE!!(At&t respond to sprints so called threat)Sprint sues At&t

Sprint wants a piece of the action too, U.S. carrier sprint has just filed a law suit against competitor At&t to also block it from acquiring T-Mobile. Sprint sees it as an illegal act of a monopoly. The whole story is on this website. Enjoy!!! http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2011/09/sprint-att-merger-t-mobile-lawsuit-jobs.html

AT&T is and always will be the Telecom superpower. Even though they were broken up years ago because if monopoly laws the bought up the smaller companies and still owned nearly the same piece of pie behind the scenes. It's that way now. AT&T has moved to television and home services again with new technology. Looks like they'll compete for top spot in a few years. If the TMO deal goes through they will be bigger than ever. Prices will bad but lets face it, the other companies wait for AT&t to make a plan change then copy them for the advantage. If I see an AT&T store go up very soon a Verizon store will appear across the street. AT&t routinely crunches the manufacturers to get the best phones. They have no choice but to play ball. There no doubt Verizon does the vest on advertizing androids but ATT has the best versions and the iPhone only talks and surfs on ATT. The Atrix is currently the best phone on the market based on reviews and specs. Not that many people know about it though. By the way my info is very reputable and firsthand.
None of this means I like ATT but it is the reality we are in.

Sprint to buy 20$ BILLION worth of iPhone in next 4 years!!!

Just read an article online & it said sprint takes big risks to buy 20 billion worth of iPhone in next 4 years but that they are going to get the iPhone 5 while At&t & Verizon get iPhone 4s then I think they get the 5 early 2012!! I think Sprint crazy to put up that much they should of did maybe 10&?$billion & use the other 10billion to build out there 4g lte to get it out to people faster!!! What you guys think

Oh dude, people will be so pissed if this is true... most people in my area hate sprint because of how crappy the service is while I cling tightly to my unlimited data despite its constant slowness.
It makes sense as to why sprint would do this and I do see this bringing in a good rush of customers, but to bank so much money on exclusivity for a few months seems like a gamble to me.
Time will tell though, its not like we have to wait that long to find out...

That a ton of mula sprint why that much? I looked online read & posted about it I think sprint should of not spent that much if apple didn't want to give them the iPhone 5 then sprint should of told them f u & spend there $ on building out there 4g LTE & Try & get the Nexus Prime as early as they could & then tell Samsung that when they make the new Galaxy S3 instead of having the. U.S.A get the phone last like we did the S2 Epic Touch . Sprint pays a little more to get it first!

not like theyre giving the money away, they going to sell the phone and make a profit/add customers with this... as we've seen iphones sell... sprint wants more things that sell to make more money...
I think this would be good, in coming customers who wish to have an iphone with a network you don't have to worry about usage, whih is what a lot of new apple users are looking for. Ease of use and no issues, well I don't necessarily agree with that. but being how well apple helped verizon I think it could actually help sprint add to their network and net worth.

Hopefully, Sprint gets an exclusive on a Wimax-enabled iPhone 5 starting this month while the other carriers have to wait for an LTE-enabled iPhone 5 in early 2012.
This is great for Apple, but not so much for Sprint. Apparently they haven't seen how Android sales numbers are trending against Apple. $20BB is a lot to gamble on another company -- especially when you are hoping that every future phone the make will continue to be a hit, even with their decreasing market share.... Kinda late to be a fanboy, but oh well.
If this is true. Then many will jump to Sprint. Will the network handle it?!?

Missing Market
Android phones are better in my option; however, there is a large number of people that need a Fisher-Price type phone. These people cannot be allowed to have unlimited options. They are people that cannot understand words like; root, rom or even kernel when applied to a cell phone. For this demographic Apple creates the best "Fisher-Price" phone. Sheepeople are told this is the way your phone works, these are your only apps and you will be happy.
Sprint should be able to greatly increase its customers with the addition of this "phone." The only downside is when you are trying to contact customer service about a real issue; you will have to wait on hold while someone is told "open the box. The box your phone came in. The black and yellow box with Sprint and iPhone on it. You have to take the phone out of the box to make a call......"

LMFAO!!!
The way people use data on their iPhones, we're bound to be heading for tiered data plans. Seriously though Sprint with so many other places to stuff your money you choose apple? Why not invest in your ever so slow network. Especially since they aren't going to see a profit from doing this until 2013.(no exaggeration)

As an irrelevant side note, pandora only uses about 30-45mb an hour to run. You could run pandora 24x7 for a week before you hit a 5gb cap.
perhaps I'm missing something, but this seems like an awful big gamble to stake on what, for all intents and purposes, has been revealed to be a 16-month old phone brought to a new carrier. I don't see enough differentiation between the 4 and the 4s to warrant the size of this investment. So, either Sprint's banking solely on the name recognition of iPhone or they anticipate a superior device being delivered sooner rather than later.
Great idea. Invest billions in the next greatest thing to hit the market. Oh wait....the iPhone has been around for years and is losing marketshare at a rapid pace and is in litigation wars with just about every other phone manufacturer. Hitching your cart to the wrong horse in my opinion.
Anyone who wants an iPhone already has one. I doubt there are that many people dying to jump on Sprint with the lack of iPhone being the only thing holding them back.
Wow... Sprint is just fail..
WTF did they do with all that money? It is not even exclusive.
What's going on????????
I was lil bit hyped possibility of owning new iPhone exclusively (note: for resell)..

The point is that you seem to be expecting to trade your Streak for a device whose value is equivalent to the Streak when it was new. If that is the case it's not likely to happen. It would be like me wanting an HTC Desire HD, a 2012 phone, and offering my HTC Aria, a 2010 phone, in trade.
It would be unrealistic to expect anyone to swap their Desire HD with an Aria. Your expectations in your trade I believe are just as unrealistic as my example. That's not to say it would never happen, but it's highly unlikely.

If you haven't notice, all of the companies that only make cellphones haven't been doing too great (Nokia, HTC, Blackberry, Motorola...etc.), it really hard to compete with these large companies (Samsung, LG, Apple, Asus, Sony...etc.) because even if one of their smartphones doesn't do too great they still got their other products from other segments of the market to bring in revenue. Samsung's domination in the market is concerning though. Its never good to have one company dominating, especially for us consumers.

Its not the end of the world. The HTC One was the first stepping stone down a path of profitability. The HTC One was a success, but with that success you also need to cover the failures (their operating loss would be far greater if the One didn't do well).
With the launch of their next products, and so long as they stick with the positives of the One; improving upon them they will come back to profitability.
Their ship hasn't sailed just yet, Nokia and Blackberry have had abysmal performance for what seems like forever and are only now going the way of the dodo( and Nokia put up one hell of a fight with their devices, just bet on the wrong horse).
While true that many handset makers have other sources of income, they are also potential money pits (TV divisions for nearly all of them are in the toilet). Samsung is essentially the 800lb gorilla. They can design, manufacturer and market devices in a faster manner than the others since they can self produce most of the components as they have all that infrastructure in place. Only way to beat them, is to continually put out a stellar product that does what it should really well and better than the competition. This doesn't just go for HTC, but for any competitor.

I feel like the ad campaign for the One was quite lacking, especially compared to recent Samsung and Nokia commercials. The One is an amazing device, but (for the average consumer) if they haven't heard their friends talking about it, they're not likely to get it.

This actually makes me kind of sad.
I mean, I really really dont understand why the One is not getting the love by the consumers that it does by all the award titles.
What do the phone sellers do anyway? Shov the S4 up the buyer's throat and make them buy it?
Don't people read reviews on the internet before they head over to the store to buy a device?
The family of my girl is also the typical S4 buyer, where already 3 of them did.
Her brother got the S4 and had craploads of problems with it, he could have bought the S3 for that matter, he said.
I came in with my HTC One and showed all of them my device was superiour in every freakin way.
Four months later, the mother AND the sister are walking around with the S4 too...
I mean, WHAT THE HELL? Dont they listen?
Ah well, as long as HTC does not fall and the support for the device stops, I'm happy with it.
I've had the S2 for two years, and I were pretty satisfied. But every time I pick up my One, I get this "wow" factor.
I find myself just holding and watching the device, being amazed about the build quality, it just has no competitors in those terms.
Things will get worse before they get better in anything!
Beleive me I have given up smoking and my lungs feel worse than when i was smoking lol! They will however get better!
the One is a great basis to start on and if they keep churning out iphone killers like this, they will be going in the right direction eventually but it takes time! :good:
I wonder if things would be different if they added a physical home button.

Sadly, it wasn't. Success is measured in sales and it grossly underperformed HTC's own estimates as measured by them reporting earnings below their own guidance in both Q2 and Q3; the two quarters where the One should have made a difference. They botched the One's launch and have also botched the Mini's launch. Because of production problems with the latter's casing they can only produce 200K per month. So now comes the Max which is selling for more than the N3 in China where HTC appears to be launching it first. It's got a .2" larger display and appears to be huge and heavy in comparison. HTC's finally starting to attack merging markets (which they should have done two years ago) but price is the biggest driver in those markets and HTC's components costs are now higher than their competitors due to their erosion in volume. Analysts' have a target price on their stock of NTD 100 which is shamefully low. When the stock nears that price someone will acquire HTC; most likely one of the Chinese phone makers.
The One was their last chance for a self-driven turnaround and in spite of it being a fabulous phone, HTC's best to-date, it was too little too late.
HTC has never advertised their products on TV enough in the US market, Samsung is on TV all the time. Also their reps get all the best in-store display space and have signs all over the stores. Advertisements sell the products.
Most mobile customers have never even heard of HTC.

The simple fact of the matter is that Samsung outspend them on marketing 10-1, not just this year but last. It is a matter of Samsung having so many irons in the fire. They are so diversified in so many areas that with slack in one area of their businesses they can push in another area. HTC have never had the resources to compete in the area of "mind share". They are singularly focused which is a bad thing. They grew exponentially but when Samsung got serious they simply outspent HTC, coupled with HTC missteps. Heavens, Samsung outspend Apple 3-1.
I really like my HTC One - the best phone I have had by a big margin. However, I do not see how they can arrest the attrition in their business without much bigger money behind them. As it stands, their margins are shrinking drastically. The only real hope for HTC is I believe with a "merger" (polite for takeover) by probably another Asian company. There is no such thing in this business as a "niche" cell phone manufacturer. R&D, marketing etc cost money and without economies of scale it is almost impossible to make good money and have good products.
I have been using HTC phones since VZW started selling them and feel that the One and DNA were the two best phones they ever made and neither ever got the advertising they deserved. I really hate to see them
fold up but I realize they don't have the resources to continue much longer. They can't fill the orders for the One or the One Mini. Ran out of the metal housings.
