Let me start by saying that I was on my parents plan previously, I ported my number over to google voice recently when they decided to axe their contract with AT&T. So right now I'm free-agent as far as wireless goes. I setup Sipdroid with pbxes.org today, and calls both come in and go out via my google voice number with sipdroid/pbxes. now for my problem:
It seems that when my screen goes off (due to the proximity sensor), the earpiece stops audio, if I hold it far enough away from my face that the screen comes on, my earpiece works, it works fine on speakerphone as well. The party on the other end of the call can hear me fine regardless of the screen state. I'm running a stock rooted 351 right now, and sipdroid 2.3. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Scratch this thread, there's a setting in sipdroid under the wireless settings to keep the screen on. That seems to take care of the problem, didn't see it there initially.

pbxes sucks. after short period they may block your free account and ask for money!that makes me sick.

Alternatively you could give CSipSimple a try: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.csipsimple
For me it works better than the sipdroid client.

i am a heavy user of skype. since Fring is banned by skype, seems no one can login skype on streak?
do you guys have any solution for that? (skype)
Nimbuzz works fine for me, at least for chat. Never tried voice calls....
When was your last login.? I could not login skypse at all with n...
Voice call is most important part.

Yesterday, does seem to have a problem today. I had an issue with a facebook account not working, after deleting that everything was fine again.
As it does not work right now, no chance to try the Skype Voice service!
Sype chat working again. Was only a short problem.
But: I cannot do voice calling, screen is black....
the official skype app is only for verizon. it actually uses your phone service and your minutes for voice calls. its really horrible. fringe used to be able to work with skype and even allowed video chat with the front facing camera. and i have to side with fringe in that debate. maybe in the future skype will realize its best to sorta open up to other carriers.
i think skype is losing his own customer here. i have to tell all my friend switch to fring now after I got a streak...
Fully agree- I don't understand why Skype does not offer a native client..... Looking at the growth figures of Android, this looks like a big mistake to me. Anybody knows the background?

SEarch for skype android beta on google. There is a Skype Lite for Android, whether it'll work on your phone is an other matter!
Hi guys, i have recently started using gtalk to make calls on the pc. Of course there's no option to initiate calls naively in Android, so I was wondering if there was an app that could basically turn the n1 into a headset wiry a dial pad, so while connected via Bluetooth or WiFi, a call could be dialed on the n1 and gtalk on the pc connects the call, thus turning thephone into a glorified headset?
Any ideas?

How about waiting for Gingerbread with Gtalk voice and video built in (hopefully)?
That would be nice, but incase that's not a feature...

I think google should just come out with their own cell phone company already. Just call it G-Talk or something. That would be way rad.
edit: o nvrmind i was confused.

I've been thinking the same thing since gmail calling came out: they should put out something in the vein of Peek, but with WiFi and 3G calling in addition to Google Voice SMS. A pure Google Voice/Google Talk device. It would (should) be an affordable device (like, <$50 with a data contract, maybe around $100-$200 without) with unlimited mobile data and WiFi capabilities.

I use "fring" for gtalk voip calls.
Works great!
Works Very Well.
Brings online the Honeycomb Native Dialer for placing calls.
The lock screen while in a call shows, but is usable to unlock the call. (I'm assuming the proximity sensor isnt sure what to do)
I have placed and received several calls using Verizon 3G, using ULAW, and GSM and connecting to an Asterisk Server.
I hope that Google Voice Integrates soon with Google Talk. That would be a better solution.
would you mind posting how to set this up?

Can you place calls over wifi?
Hi all, I'm planning on switching over to the streak, and have searched for this but the "answers" I found aren't conclusive or dont really apply. Here's my background. I am currently grandfathered with ATT on an unlimited PDA personal data plan, with no voice. (i have a business cell for voice and ATT's network is faster and is perfect in the areas I visit, as well as my home which is the reason I opted not to get a voice plan since id rarely use it) So SOMETIMES I use skype (i have a skype out accout and skype #) to make voice calls if I leave my business cell at home/batt dies or whatever. My question is,
1: does the skype app work to make phone calls, (without frezing the phone). I do not need video chat, I just want voice calls to work. Also if it does work, what rom does it work on well? I not afraid of rooting and moding the device, im coming over from the Captivate which basically needed custom roms to function the way it SHOULD.
Q2: how well would you say gps and wifi tether work on whichever rom you recommend? Turn by turn nav work fluidly, or does it randomly throw you in the woods/ half a mile away like my Captivate?
Thanks in advance!

I've downloaded and installed Skype but haven't tried using it yet. With Rogers (Canada) official 2.2 ROM, Skype showed up in the Market, which it didn't when it was under 1.6
I have owned many android phones and i must say that the streak works great with skype. I've been talking for over an hour yesterday and i didn't have any issues (both 3g and wifi). 10+ for Streak
For gps navigation i use Copilot and works great also. My rom 2.2 - 318 EU
Doesn't work for me on 3G. Says not supported on 3G. Rather annoying.

Do a bit of googling and you'll find a "cracked" version of Skype that'll work over 3G.
Edit: It's here http://www.droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/78843-apks-unlocked-apps.html
Am surprised you cannot use Skype over 3G. The version I got from Market works over 3G ... Perhaps your carrier blocks it?

I should have specified, I am in the US on AT&T and they block it from being able to make voice calls over 3g. I tried the cracked version because thats what I used on my old Captivate and it didnt work on the streak. Depending on which cracked version you download, one doesn't even run (i believe the one intended for non-rooted/for people with preinstalled skype already on their phones) and the other package with is intended for rooted users: when I make a call it says call ended right away, then i try to make another call and skype tells me i have to hang up my other call before I make a new one. Kind of disapointing :/

in the us its limited to wifi only to appease to the carriers. or so they say, i think its because skype doesnt want to upgrade their systems to handle the traffic. att used to be able to block skype from using 3g on the iphone, and now the iphone is capable of calling and video chat on 3g while android users get no love. tbh, i dont care if i have to use wifi but i really do want video chat.
Try oovoo. It sounds lame but works beautifully both voice and video. Much much better than Skype on android, which never worked for me on any handset.
Skype on my streak works over 3G no issues... BT headset wont work though...

I just downloaded and installed Skype from the Market. I unlocked my Streak and am using a T-Mobile SIM (data only). When I tried to make a call to one of my Skype contacts I got the message 'In the U.S., you can only make Skype calls over Wi-Fi.'
P.S. My Streak is so far unrooted...I don't know if that makes a difference or not.
GrooveIP does not work for me on N 4.
Did anyone manage to make it work?
It works fine on my other devices w/same username/password.
could you elaborate a bit?
in what way does it not work?
it works just fine for me. i'm running the latest pa (3.65 from 7/10) and the latest franco nightly (r163).
Works fine for me...even used it 2weeks ago while in Canada.
Works fine for me. Better call quality then cellular.
I use it for the most part without issue. If you are trying to use it over you network and not wifi you net to go into the settings and check 3G/4G calling.

I actually had trouble with it and didn't have time to troubleshoot yet. Check out GV Phone. Worked for the couple of test calls that I did.

I've had some troubles with GrooveIP this past month and a half. It works sometimes when I try, but receiving calls is very hit-and-miss. The app doesn't maintain connection to Google Voice very well. I tried using it as my main source of voice, but it hasn't worked well for me so I have to switch back to using cell minutes. It's weird; when it acts up, the app thinks it's connected to Voice, but it definitely isn't. Incoming calls hit Google Voice, but don't ring my phone. Outgoing calls don't even get to Google Voice, the app just sits at "Dialing..." and doesn't do anything. I've posted in a few threads on these forums and on their Play store page so hopefully they figure out what's wrong.
GrooveIP works well
I am on stock ROM and also tried it with CM 10.1
I have absolutely no issues. Used it in Canada as well as Hong Kong. Had it on N4 from day one. Previously used it on Atrix. HTC One S without any issues as well.

If you have Google Voice set for forwarding your Google Voice number to your phone, that is most likely the reason you are not receiving incoming calls to GrooveIP. Turn the forwarding off and then recheck the behavior.

I have Google Voice only forwarding to Google Chat, which I believe is what GrooveIP uses (correct me if I'm wrong). I've ticked almost every option in GrooveIP, allowed it to use all wakelocks and everything. It just sometimes disconnects from the servers and refuses to reconnect automatically because it thinks that it is still connected when it isn't. I even have it reconnect to the servers every 5 minutes, still nothing. I have to manually go in and refresh the connect (by re-logging into Google Voice through GrooveIP)

Hmmm... not seeing that here, of course I only pretty much use it on wi-fi. Are you using it on cell data when you see this behavior?
