Gingerbread OTA back to Froyo - Droid 2 General

Has anyone tried going back to froyo from the new gingerbread OTA using the sbf file for froyo..... ?

No, why would you want to do that?
I would imagine the RSD Lite method via pc would do it.

If I root it i want to know if i can get back to stock to be able to take back for repairs if i need too....

Should be able to. I can't guarantee as I'm not going to attempt it myself (new phone in 3 days anyway).

I thought you should be able too also but not sure I wanna try without knowing for sure.....

Well to put it in perspective, I ran the leaked GB before SBFing back to stock Froyo. Then ran the OTA. The ability should be there, dunno why I didn't think to mention this before.

Guess maybe a better question would be can you unroot the gingerbread OTA if you root it using the oneclick method ?

This appears to be the blog of the creator, perhaps contact him. I don't have plans to unroot, if I happened to need to bring it in and not void the warranty, I'd just SBF froyo then OTA again. That will surely remove the root.

Yes you can
I have just fixed my phone via the RSDLite method, i got stuck in a bootloop i couldnt get out of and just flashed back to stock froyo without an issue, ran the OTA update and am good to go, so its extremely easy to do

unrooting?..

I know relocking hasn't been figured out yet, but is there a way to unroot?
I'm not 100% sure, but wouldn't flashing a stock rom unroot you?
don't think there's any original software around...

its the post with the long weird name hah
So if this is flashed ill be unrooted and be able to get ota updates if one is sent out
I'm not entirely sure.. but when I used my g1 and flashed a stock image i lost root and could receive OTA. Soo I would expect it to be the same here
I'm just paranoid damn 2.2+ is going to be released and I'm going to be stock with 2.1 just rooted
That's the beauty of rooting. Heck if history is repeated then the Nexus One will have rooted 2.2 before its even officially announced
True strike!!!
thats not a rom.. it cant be just flashed...
There are multiple img files in that zip. do I flash all to restore to factory default and get OTA?
Do I flash this rom the same way I would do all others? Sd card, Wipe, Choose zip, reboot, or is there something I'm missing here?
According to icon57, you just do a recovery->flash zip to flash this ROM.
But he also says that this will not unroot and restore OTA

Btw, I'm referring to the ROM linked by melterx12 in the previous page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614057
I have not confirmed this.
yep....once you have rooted the phone, there is no going back...at this time...
what about warranty?
the one what I concerned about rooting is warranty.
can it be warrantied even though that unrooted with original rom?

NEED to unroot my Droid X

i am on official 2.2 update, and i am rooted. now i want to unroot my phone and put everything all back to the way it was when i first bought my phone. dont ask why, i just want to so who knows how? i completely regret ever rooting my phone in the first place, i just want everything to all go back to normal......
well you can only go back to 2.2 OTA. You can't get back to 2.1 now that you have the OTA. Go here to restore your system back to fresh OTA state. Not sure if it will still be rooted or not but i think it wont. Can't help if it doesn't get rid of root maybe check out rootzwiki.com and see if they have a way.

[Q] question about 2.2 SBF

i just use the 2.2 SBF file to restore my phone after i seem to have bricked it while trying to install a custom rom. now my phone is unrooted and im probably going to leave it unrooted for a while before rooting again, and im wondering if its still possible for my phone to recieve OTA updates after flashing the sbf?

[Q] Flash stock recovery

How do I do this i have clockworkmod using the one click 2.5.5 method and I want to flash the 2.2.1 leaked rom I'v searched everywhere and tried the one click unroot and it says device not found and doesn't give me a stock recovery
thx in advance
Cant you flash the update.zip in clockwork also? If not then I would Odin to dk28. That way you get a fresh install. You'll have less problems that way.
I think I'll wait to use the odin method till (if) the OTA 2.2 comes out I dont think I want the leaked one I'v been reading about all the bugs and it dosent seem worth it if the OTA 2.2 comes out soon thanks tho at least now I know how to get back to stock so i can even get the update
Also does using the odin method mess up the orientation iv read alot of places that it does and that it can only be fixed by rooting again but will rooting again kill OTA updates?

[Q] OTA Gingerbread update

So I use an Samsung Epic, however my friend uses a Droid X with the OTA update on it. From what I've read it seems the only way to root is phone would be to flash his phone back to a earlier version that already has root then update via Boot strap. Is this the only method? Or is it possible to get Bootstrap to work on his OTAed phone and then flash the Update over top of it. Or even just to flash the .zip of the rooted version of the OTA through the stock recovery by renaming it Update.zip? I just would like to know. I wanted to give him root because he is currently having issues with his keyboard and phone slowing down due to the bloatware on it.

Yeah I believe he is going to sbf back to froyo then root then install the 2 part 596 GB rooted version (you can get it from multiple places -try Team Black Hat's app) then he should be good to go.
