Sometimes I make photos into a computer and a USB cable get, because the pc see. as if there were not.
ZTE has a root, the card is 8GB, reduced by 512MB, converted to ext2. Rom is the original manufacturer ZTE.

usb mass storage

hi, mates
i faced with a problem on my hero,
it doesn't connect to PC.
after cable's plugged in, sometimes I see mode selection dialog, sometimes - no, but in any case, PC writes : usb device is not recognized.
sometimes i see removable drive win explorer, but after clicking on this windows tells me - please insert disk into this drive,
and hero detaches mounted drive with notification about preparing sd card for usage.
i faced with with problem not after next flashing custom rom, but after that i tried to wipe data and flash various roms, the same result.
how do you think this is hardware issue? or recommend me to try another steps to fix this, please

use usbdeview to remove anything HTC then reboit, don't let windows install anything from Windows update
Thank you,
I've tried this solution,
but it doesn't work completely.
Actually, I've tried to connect my Hero via usb with XP, Vista, Ubuntu, OSX
and got the same problem,
host loses the connection to hero,
sometimes host can't connect after plugging cable ,
sometimes host can transfer small files, but when I try to copy large file to the device and host loses connection during the copy process.
looks like a problem with usb connector/controller on device side,
like power trouble, low voltage on usb
your opinion?

PC Does Not Recognize My Device

Hi,
I have a strange problem when I try to connect my device to the PC.
After I installed Kies for the first time, the PC recognized my device one time. After I had removed the USB connection, when I try to reconnect the device, the PC did not recognize it.
I tried to reinstall Kies, install drivers without the Kies, I rebooted my PC everytime - nothing worked, it still did not recognized.
The only thing that work is a System Restore which I did on my PC (for before I installed Kies for the first time), but then I got the same problem - for the first time I connected my device after the Kies installation, the PC recognized my device, but after I unplugged and reconncted the USB cabel, the PC did not recognize my device, again.
Meanwhile, my System Checkpoints on my PC where deleted (I guess because of the System Restore), so now I can not go back to square one again.
I tried to find identical problem in the forum, but I did not find one.
My operating system on my PC is Windows XP, 32bit (I do not have access to another operating system, surely not on a daily basis. If it is necessary, I will try to find a computer with another operating system).
The Kies version which I installed is 1.5.3, the most updated as of 31/10/2010, downloaded from the official Samsung website.
I do NOT use LauncherPro, or any other launchers for that matter (I only installed a few popular games, from the market, on my device).
Thank you!
Yuval.
Try removing any media which might be there on your internal sd card. If that doesn't work then try and format the internal sd card. Certain apps like winamp too prevent the phone from connecting to the pc. It sure did work for me. Hope it does for you too.

I did transfer some .mp3 and .wma files from my PC to my "media" folder in my device through Kies in my first (and successful) connection.
However, deleting them (+ reinstallation of Kies + rebooting of both my PC and my device) did not help, and my PC still does not recognize my phone.
How do I format my internal SD card?
Thanks!
if you have any other devices like printers, external hdds, etc connected, remove them and connect your phone.
Go to settings, sd card and phone storage, internal sd card. Unmount internal sd card and then format.

The only devices that are connected to my PC are the screen, mouse and keyboard. Should I remove and reconnect them?
Do you get the usb connection sounds when you connect and disconnect your phone to/from the pc?
It is all OK now .
The problem was two bad USB ports. It took my some time to cosider the posibility that both of them do not work well. Using a third USB port fixed the problem.
For all of you - if the phone uploads the "Kies" screen (the blue one) when connencted, it is probably the USB port or the USB cabel to blame.

[Q] Please Educate about USB Storage Limits

OK, to get to this message, I had to read a warning about getting banned if not a developer thread.
Well, this is. Sort of.
I posted a question in the general forum and commented on the same subject in the Q&A forum. I think I know my answer but I would like to know why this problem exists.
I just got my tablet Friday evening. I figured it all out and was able to use external storage on drives and USB sticks. When I try to connect my phone as a disk drive, no files.
I am assuming that access to these files is for lack of root access, which I am not going to get because I immediately let it update to 3.2.
So, could someone tell me if lack of root is the answer and why? The phone does instantly show up as a disk drive on XP and Windows 7.
Thanks, and moderators, please don't kick me out.
Did you try mounting your phone, if you can? And yes root it would be easier with the usb mount app, or just use an app like es file explorer that can go into the root section without root then go to mnt and in one of those files should be your phone files, because i have an env touch and i use usb mass storage and it shows up on my iconia
Thanks. Yes, I did see the folder MNT but it did not show up. Using my usual file explorers, I can see the internal storage and the SD card. The next entry is the USB STORAGE where I find no files when the phone is connected.
If I connect an external drive or usb memory device, I can access all the files. When I connect the phone as a drive I see that nothing is there.
When I connect these same devices to my home pc running Win 7 and laptop with XP, they all connect the same way.
There is something in the OS that is not letting my tablet file system see my phone file system.
Thanks for the reply, I'll keep my eye on this thread.
I'm having the same problem, i can import photos or videos from the phone when the phone is on mtp mode (media transfer protocol) but when in file transfer mode (msc) nothing shows up in the mnt folder or in drive mount app. i'm running taboonay 2.2 with villain kernel. It works fine with external hdd ntfs or fat. When connecting the phone to my computer i had to install a driver from windows update and it shows as an xperia arc, do i also need a driver in my tablet? Has anyone already connected and android phone to an android tablet in mass storage mode?

Not sure Root has anything to do with it. I'm rooted on both phone and tab , and have no access to the files on my phone. When in "disk drive" mode, all it does is "charge".

[Q] Nexus 4 slow file transfer[Windows][Stock ROM]

Has anyone tried using MTP transfer?
I'm trying to copy some files from the phone to the computer but it seems impossible through MTP.
What other methods you can use to transfer files?
I had to use adb pull command to pull all my data before i unlock the bootloader. I'm assuming that custom ROMs will let you connect the phone as an external storage device but what about people who don't/can't install custom rom? Do they have to live with those slow MTP speeds while transferring something to the phone?

I tried everything and the only way i could get adequate speed was from adb.
I'm wondering why google didn't include external storage as an option to connect (in 4.2.2, i assume it's a software feature) like there is in some other phones that does not have sd card slot.
I don't think anything can fix MTP. It's so slow, that I have to use adb to transfer Clockworkmod backups.
I hate MTP so much.
The reason there's no mass storage option is because the geniuses at either LG or Google decided it was a good idea to make external storage a folder in /data/ rather than have a dedicated /sdcard/ partition.
Slow transfers with MTP on Nexus 4
** Note: You need a OTG cable with a power connector & ROOT
Nexus 4 - Stock ROM 4.3 ROOTED.
OTG cable with power connector
USB patch
StickMount app
An earlier version of Directory Opus (sorry, the trial expired and I did not note the exact version) seemed to do a good job of transferring files from the Nexus to the PC (Win 7), but when I tried it on another computer and it no longer worked (transfer stopped before it actually completed).
I tried the following and it worked for me:
Check these links:
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-advanced-usb-otg-nexus-4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/orig-development/usb-otg-externally-powered-usb-otg-t2181820
Use the patch that is suitable for your rom.
install StickMount, connect the usb otg cable to portable drive (in my case a seagate 320 GB Freeagent), the power, and then the phone.
The drive is mounted under /sdcard/usbstorage/sd1
You may need the ntfs-3g file from Chainfire's site.
Transfers were at 7 to 8 MBps from the Nexus to the portable drive [NO PC/Windows involved]. This is better than MTP and DirectoryOpus [when it worked] which was at around 4MBps.
The other option is to use SuperBeam app.
DirectoryOpus might work, but you probably need the right combination of MTP drivers, DirectoryOpus version and Windows version.

[Q] USB, not sure what this is called

I've tried googling this, I'm finding a thousand articles that aren't related to what I want to do.
I want to plug in my phone via USB and be able to see what is taking up so much room and then transfer those files using my computer.
I don't want to connect it as a media device or camera.
I can't remember how I did that before or if I'm thinking of my old skyrocket.
PS. I booted to recovery mode and plugged it in, it's not recognizing on my computer in recovery mode.
USB Mass Storage was removed by Google in Android 4.1.2.

With the MTP mode (Media Transfer Protocol) you can transfer all types of files
Check the current USB settings with *#0808#
I use the program
http://www.jam-software.com/treesize_free/
But I guess that you can't use that for internal storage. Just USB mounted SD card.
