Since I'm using CM my upload speed is faster than download speed on everything (wifi,3g and 4g) . I don't get more than 1 Mb on my wifi . On 3g i don't get more than 300 Kb download speed but almost 4Mb upload speed . What's wrong ? Can anybody help ?
On 3G, I get a faster upload than download a lot of the time like you said , but I think that's because of the crappy 3G around here more than anything else. I'm on a stock rooted rom.
On wifi, speedtest.net more or less gives me results typical of my wifi (i.e. the speeds I pay comcast for). Sounds like there might be a wifi issue with your ROM.
Same here buddy, been like that for a while here in Tampa. I believe it's just sprints ****ty network.
Sent from your Moms EVO using 4G speed
I'm seeing the same thing, on Metro's network, which has the EVO limited to 1X speeds.
Upload is almost 3 times faster, than download, at 1X.
Shame their not truly compatible with the EVO's radio systems.
WiFi appears to work fine, so, I just stay home and use it (which was not at all, the idea for getting this phone).
Pity, we can't just toggle the U/L, D/L settings.

You don't get more than 1MB on Wifi?!
Does the internet connection you're connecting to get better speeds than that?
Sounds like you could have a phone issue.
I flashed stocked rooted Rom and wifi speed goes to 9 Mb . So , why i don't get that speed on CM ?
So , Is there anybody to help me with this issue . Since then i flash many different Roms and Wifi speed is much faster than CM7 on many of them . I wonder if there is fix for that ...

While I know similar stuff has been posted many times, I just have a question. When I had a Palm Pre and using homebrew I remember this unthrottle patch that basically made your Pre go faster than the horrendous 64kilobytes a sec. So does anyone know if the 4G is being throttled? My pre would get almost 2mbps using speedtest while my evo gets .3mbps. Now while using Pdanet I get .85mbps at the most. I haven't downloaded anything but my Pre at the fastest was downloading files at almost 300kilobytes a second. Thanks for any help
My best 3g test on my EVO was 1.8mb down and 566kb up.
You honestly can't really get a "consistant" speed out of 3g. 3g works in bursts, and when you wifi tether or tether in general you lose speed, for the most accurate speeds run a speed test on the phone via the market apps. Also the more people on a 3g network the crappier it is, CDMA also has slower 3g speeds since voice and data are on the same band. 4g is being throttled to 6mbps at the moment because sprint doesn't want to overload the network until its fully tested under heavy end user use. (maybe AT&T shoulda done this becasue their 3g network is crashing and burning horribly).
Thanks. I never thought of looking in the market for speedtest apps.
best here in NJ was 2.2 down about 800 up
I've never seen my EVO pass 1.2 - my Touch Pro 2 consistently hits 2+
Well the fastest I've seen was 310kb/s down 109kb/s up after using the app. I prefer using kb/s since thats what it shows when I download stuff. I guess this is faster than my Pre and definitely faster than my crappy dsl

Faster than your DSL? wow your DSL should at least be equal. Probably at the end of the distance to the Telco or closest Router or VRack. Should have your DSL Co check your line.

Where do you have the source for 4G being throttled to 6? I heard 10/1.

Its what Verizon offers in my area. I get 890 or something kbps down its either that or 1.6mbps which with a little more money I could get more with comcast. We need more internet competition or for companies to step up their game because comcast is fast but throttling and the whole area getting a set pool of bandwidth vs slow but always the same speeds sucks

I've heard the same thing around the time the Evo was announced and Wimax started to expand
From here:
http://androidforums.com/htc-evo-4g/111096-interesting-4g-speed-observation.html
Basically...
I live just outside of 4G coverage and when I am on 3G, I get a download speed of 864kbps and upload speed of 748 kbps. However, when I switch on 4G, even though I don't get a 4G signal, phone still says 3G, I get a download speed of 1349kbps and upload speed of 656 kbps.
I have tested this several times and every time it is faster with the 4G switch turned on. I do have 4G coverage at work so I know for sure that I am only on 3G at home.
I would like to see if anyone else can test this out.

Hmm, can cop a 4G signal outside (and even then, it can either be faster than my 3G speeds or it's comparable ((assuming because I'm on the brink, not the strongest signal by any stretch))) but not inside ... will keep trying but I'm getting roughly the same speeds.
Will give it a few more goes.
Ran 2 speed tests on 3G today and only got 370kb, which compared to my friends Desire (also on T-mobile) and my old iPhone 3G, both of which got 1.7mb on the same websites, its pretty poor
Anyone else tried speed testing, or notice slow internet speeds ?
Thanks
Mark
Just call up T mobile and ask to be put on the 3GB plan. say that you thought you were on the 3GB plan with your new phone (don't mention it's WP7) but the download speeds are slow.
Hopefully they'll put you on 3GB and have unthrottled download speeds.
Well 3g has always been slow about my area but T-Mobile just opened up HSPA+ in my town but I still get crappy speeds. I just ran a test right now with the speedtest.net app and the results are 0.23mbps d/l - 0.34mbps u/l with full bars of 3g. I think the best I have every seen was 0.96mbps d/l - 1.03 u/l.
I'm running CM6.1 nightly and was running froyo radio but changed to the new Korea radio to see if it helped but nothing. A while back while driving through Philly I hit 5.08mbps d/l - 2.88mbps u/l on the HSPA+ network.
I have played around with the build.prop and just can't find a setting for the speeds I "think" I should be getting. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about going back to OTA Froyo from Google to see if that helps.
It seems to me it depends on where I am at, at home I get decent speeds, at my dads which is like 5 miles away I barely get edge, St work speeds are ok, and my friends house I have crazy awesome speed...T-Mobile signal strength is some what lacking depending on your location...inside of a building I could get edge, but if I go outside I get full 3g...

Well I contacted T-Mobile an apparently I am on the "Smart Phone Data Plan" and should be on the "Android Data Plan". I didn't know there was a difference but they said there was and to give it 3 hours and it should help with the speeds. I personally doubt it since people are getting great speeds from Web2Go and t-zone plans.
They also suggested I upgrade (for free) my sim card to a 3G(UICC) SIM card. So I guess I am heading to T-Mobile after work to upgrade.
Again I doubt any of this will fix my issues as I have hit 5.08mbps in Philly with this sim card and data plan.
It's their network I go through the same thing where I live

Ok well the results after 3 hours of waiting.. I just did a speed test and got... 0.09mbps d/l and 0.47mbps u/l average after 4 tests. I'm pretty sure I get better speeds on EDGE. Needless to say I am heading up to T-Mobile after work to have a talk with them. This is crazy. Why pay for a data plan if it's going to be this slow.
Wow look at these blazing speeds..
Maybe this will help

I was having speed issues also, so I edited my build.prop and now my speed is blazing fast. I'm a happy camper. I'm using evil's NXsense 1.26, before that cyanogenmod 6.1 RC1, I was having serious market issues, I couldn't install or uninstall apps with cyanogen. I edited the build.prop and things improved but not much, I would have to keep canceling download, and then reboot to install. I edited build.prop on evil's NXsense, and did a couple of speed test, I didn't have to because I noticed improvement right away. I just wanted to see some numbers, so I took three, one indoors, outdoors and with wi-fi. It doesn't matter if I can get 4G speed I'm happy with what I got, I have copies if my edited build.prop, I'm not sure if I can post it without the devs consent, a respect thing, you know. It's like a real gray area, but if you want to try and see if it helps, PM me
Well with the new sim card and new rom IM getting 2.48mbps down now. Not sure why cm6.1 was so slow but it was.

running CM6 nightly 247 I too had those negative download speeds and 32 meg uploads
Heh i'm damn happy my network is always blazing fast even indoors (see my signature)
I modified the build.prop though to have ro.ril.hsxpa=2 and ro.ril.gprsclass=12
Running radio 5.12
Beautiful thing being rooted!!!!

That's decent speed, I'm sure your good with that.
Hey everyone, Im having this weird issue with my data speeds. When i had my TP2 i would always get speeds of about 700Kb/s dl/ul with pings of around 150ms
BUT on my MT4G my speeds are a little screwy 1st off is sometimes my pings are 650+ other times normal, Also my download speeds are getting 250-600Kb/s which is obviously slower than my TP2.
The weird thing is (besides slower with random ping times) my upload speeds. For a VERY quick second i will see a speed of 3+Mb/s then it will drop down to either around 700 or stay at exactly 1Mb/s...odd
i was thinking maybe the towers dont have the backhaul in place yet, but with a burst of 3+Mb im thinking there is something wrong because if it WASNT there i wouldnt even get that burst, or even get to 1Mb because before the 4g max i could get is 800Kb/s up and down.
I called tmobile and they want to do a master reset....psh please! to much hassle
What do you think could be the problem? i got a new sim card with the new phone so i couldnt be that.
Try having ur GPS on when running Speedtest. Also, make sure that you are connected to the closest server. I am getting 6Mbps in Miami.
