many thanks fincan i will try ur way sound very promising. and will let you know if I had any issues.
Ctrl+Break key sequence
Not sure if the switch you are connecting to requires the ctrl+break sequence, but I've only found one way to do it. Pressing the ScrL function key on the hacker's keyboard will sent tha ctrl+break sequence ti connected equipment
many thanks to you it works

Hi everybody!
Trying to use the combo USB hub and RJ-45 LAN port while installing winxp, I've found out that it does not work ("limited or no connectivity") because the LAN RJ45 socket seems to be wired in a different manner compared to the LAN port of a laptop or network switch or router, i.e not for 2tx +2rx pairs but for only half of them. Although I think that this is the correct standard way compatible with integrated cabled networks (computers+telephones), this confoiguration does not work on simple home networks, I don't know why. I guess that the RJ45 socket is wired in a peculier manner. I experienced the same thing with another external lan/usb adapter.
Did anybody else face this problem and found a solution / adapter?
Thank you!
The lan port is working perfectly normal. I think you should look at your cable or home setup. I've plugged is for many years in many different networks. I never used XP.

Thank you Thaihugo, you are probably right that there is something in connecttion with my home network, although this is the first time it is proven not to work with one computer unit, i.e. via this combo usb hub. I will check it over the week-end. It not specific to xp, it happens in Vista too. I mentioned xp because I needed to validate the install before going ahead with the wireless board and all the trouble.
P.S. An off-topic important question: finding out that the lan adapter connection doesn't work with the fresh xp, I got back to Vista via the recovery function Fn+F3. Does this mean that I must redo the HardSPL installation and that until then I cannot flash any new ROM on the winmob side?
Nope, they are independent. HardSPL is for life (or until you flash a stock SPL)
I'm a noob, not sure where else to get help on this site about my problem... I'm using a ASUS Notebook K53E Series laptop computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Service Pack 1... I'm using a HDMI to project onto a HD TV I have a USB keyboard and mouse hooked up, both Logitech... The problem I'm having is, both the mouse and keyboard keep disconnecting on me... The mouse will go first' I'll move it from one USB port to the other, and it will work, but then stop working again... The keyboard will just stop working, even if I move it I can't get it to reconnect... I have to shutdown my computer to get everything to start working again, but it will only last about a half hour before they stop working again after the reboot... I've went into the device manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers > Generic USB Hub > properties > Power Management, and unchecked "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power... This does not help... I then uninstalled it, and rebooted my computer, still doesn't help... I then tried to system restore, I couldn't because I had no restore points, I have no idea why I didn't... I then look if there was any system updates, there was, but minor updates, I updated them anyways, still no go... I'm only having problems with the USB mouse and keyboard... My laptop touch pad and everything else works fine...:fingers-crossed:
... why are you looking for help here? This isn't a tech support forum, it's a dev&hacking forum. It's also not a Win7 forum... there are better places on the Internet to ask for Win7 support! Asus themselves would be a more logical choice, for example.
You could try checking the Event Logs for any abnormal USB events, but I don't really know. Are there any other mice / keyboards you could try, or could you try the ones you have on another computer? Does it work at all to just unplug the mouse/keyboard and plug it in again? Do the devices lose power (lights go out) or do they simply stop responding correctly? Do other USB devices (phone, camera, webcam, headset, flashdrive, whatever) keep on working if you leave them plugged in for a while?

Sorry, like I said I'm a noob... The reason I asked here, because I thought it was a general question for windows OS... I do understand its windows 8 tho... I also didn't want to join some random site to get my answer... I also checked event logs, but I'm not sure how to use it... I have no other computers or mice/ keyboards to test with... The lights stay on, like their still connected, but they don't work... I've pulled them out, and plugged them back in, and even put them in other USB ports... But they will only work for a short while after moving them to a new USB port... They will no longer work in the same port after they stop working until I reboot... I'm also not sure if it's ASUS or Logitech thats the problem...
Hey everyone,
Firstly my apologies if this is in the wrong section but it seemed most relavent although I've been pulling my hair out all day/night so I not at my sharpest.
My issue is this:
I have a Google Nexus 7 (pre-2013) that has a cracked screen. I had it rooted originally but I was using TWRP multi-rom loader for Android and Ubuntu. After the screen cracked I couldnt get past the boot loader (even with the OTG cable and mouse). So I restored it to stock awhile back but now I want to re-root it for various reasons, namely to be able to use certain applications that will make controlling it (without OTG cable) far easier and more practical.
I continually get stuck at the RSA Key Check for USB Debugging. (as I am unable to post links I've attached a picture I came accross on the net of the RSA key check I refer to)
This only prompts when I have the USB connected to my PC, but I cant control the Nexus as I have to take the OTG out to connect it to the computer.
I have tried vast array of VNC/Remote applications but still cannot seem to tick that freaking box (or at least just say 'OK' once in order to root the device).
Tablet Remote has gotten me the closest although it doesnt allow me to click "OK" when I pair it with my Samsung S4.
VMLite was promising however its the same deal : I'm required to push 'Start Server' with the USB connection to the PC (of which I cant do, otherwise I would just hit OK on the RSA key check)
Numerous other VNC Server apps or ones of similar nature require root access (of which I am trying to get!)
- I dont have any bluetooth devices in the house (except my old SixAxis controller from PS3 but SixAxis requires root privileges).
- Im not confident of whipping up a home made 'OTG Y Cable' so I can have both USB input to the computer and OTG mouse input
Short of buying either of these (a bluetooth mouse for example or a suitable OTG cable), is there anything I can do? Its so frustrating to not be able to proceed because of 1 stupid box.
Is there a way to disable this RSA check or is there an avenue I havnt explored yet that could solve this for me?
Many thanks in advance!!
Been setting up my ShieldTV (2017) - and sideloaded YouTubeTV App and Chrome. Need an external keyboard for them to work and tried the Logitech K400+.
I've added the USB Dongle, and had the keyboard inches away - nothing. Powered off, rebooted, nothing.
Checked all the settings - don't see anything related to external keyboard. All I was able to do was select the AOSP keyboard.
Is it the keyboard or is there just something basic I'm missing?
i have and use the k400 model and it works out of the box even on latest stock 5.1.
No need to setup anything.
Check your batteries and make sure you turn it on (the switch is on top right of the kb). Last but not least check the usb receiver is the correct (also in case of various devices of same brand) and says Logitech.
If no go then it could be defective. Try it in a PC or laptop. Btw for better performance i use a single usb 2.0 port extender but works fine in a 4 port usb 3.0 i have, however mileage may vary as in many cases usb 3.0 ports can cause issues, in this case interference.

are you in stock nougat or full android?
usually in the latter you gotta do a trick to enable second usb port host mode as by default work for ADB/Debug only
If you have USB debugging on try turning off.

Im fully stock. In that case does the shield tv only support 1 USB port? Wouldn't make any sense.

no, both work but one works for debugging too as Nvidia removed the mini usb otg port.
As i said if you have developers mode enabled and usb debugging try disabling it and reboot.

Well - this is just silly - I don't know how to update the thread title... and to change it to be more descriptive.?
Hey, regarding this issue. USB debugging probably wasn't the cause.
But by enabling and disabling you did fix the cause, because there are two instances that need the second USB port. One is for debugging and the second is for the device to be seen as an external device when you use that USB port to connect it to the computer (in short, MTP protocol for filesharing).
Probably in the Storage settings you turned on the USB toggle for file access. By enabling developer mode and enabling USB debugging, the toggle was automatically turned off once you disabled that.
Or maybe the setting was toggled when you tried to setup the plex server. Not sure what actions trigger that, but now you know the real cause.
If you haven't enabled developer settings, USB debugging won't be turned on by itself. Especially not when the device is practically new and you haven't done anything to it.
So keep this in mind, either using debugging or making your internal storage available over USB will disable that USB port for other devices.

Thanks for providing this insight. Makes total sense as i couldn't understand how that port became unusable for the wireless dongle
My (proprietary radio) USB wireless keyboard stopped typing, though it indicated it was paired to its USB dongle. I tried to pair a Bluetooth keyboard to the Shield TV too, and while it would pair (and accept the passcode typed on the keyboard), it would fail at "connecting" and not work. I tried toggling developer mode, USB debugging, even USB type from Automatic to Compatible and back, no joy.
Then I restarted the Shield TV. It seemed to shut down but didn't start back up - black screen. I power cycled it. When it came back up I was able to pair the Bluetooth keyboard, connect and type, and pair the (proprietary radio) USB wireless keyboard.
I booted my Nvidia SHIELD TV 2019 into the bootloader using ADB. The problem is that I can't navigate the menu. Neither the remote nor the controller seem to work. All tutorials speak of connecting the controller via USB but that's for older shields or the PRO version. This device does not have a USB port to connect the controller or keyboard there. My model is P3430, the regular shield TV 2019.
Has anyone been able to enter into options in this menu for this model?
I'm trying to downgrade the shield from the January upgrade which broke many apps.

You have to use the hardware button on the device located above the hdmi port.
press once to navigate menus and long press to select.

Thanks! I had figured that out but now I'm stuck because I can't run fastboot commands via wifi and the device has no USB connection. Any way to get past that?

That the one million dollar question.
The following is what I have read from various posts in various places:
1. I have read that you can desolder the sdcard reader and solder on a usb port for that purpose.
I have not found a post of anyone who has actually done that though.
2. I have heard reference to being about to use fastboot over network and have tried without success on over wireless and ethernet.
Maybe the update to android 11 opens up more possibilities for this method but likely not.
3. I have also wondered if there could be a way to sneak a copy of twrp custom recovery into the image-shield-2019-atv-9.0.0.zip and use that to do a restore by placing it on an sdcard as described in other posts.
This is unlikely to work and even if it did the next issue is how to navigate a custom recovery without a mouse or keyboard. Maybe using CEC form the tv remote or the power button method.
4. Another option I have considered is to somehow use the ethernet port with a usb adapter. However I think the USB/SDcard Bus are completely isolated from one another making this impossible.
Disclaimer: I am by any means an android developer just an enthusiast of android rooting.
Final Thoughts:
My hope is to open up this conversation. now that a new version is out and folks are maybe playing around with this for the 1st time in a while.
Other places where rooting the Tube comes up the answer is often just get the pro.
But I like the tube. Its been a good replacement for the firestick which a got fed up with. I want a portable ATV device for travel that isn't as underpowered.
