Hello all,
I think I may have bricked my nexus one. It is completely my fault for attempting things that I knew little about, so flame away But after the flaming, if anyone is willing to help I would be sooooo thankfull...
I successfully rooted my phone following the instructions on this page: (all links edited with a double asterisk as I don't believe I can post links)
h**p://theunlockr.com/2010/01/02/how-to-root-the-nexus-one/
Then successfully installed cyanogenmod (which is awesome!) following this page:
h**p://theunlockr.com/2010/01/08/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-nexus-one/
All was well, I even got the modaco desire rom up and running, and was happily switching back and forth using the recovery screen. I had nand backups for specific setups, etc.
Then I decided it would be good to know how to go back to stock, and found this page:
h**p://**w.androidspin.com/2010/05/06/guide-unrooting-your-nexus-one-its-like-it-never-happened-almost/
I followed the instructions to the letter (I think) except for erasing userdata (it said "failed: remote not allowed"). I thought that things would be ok, since I'd recently wiped, so I followed the page till the end.
The phone rebooted, and I got the original nexus boot animation - but it's in an endless loop! What's worse, it that now when I try to go to the bootloader or recovery mode, I get the exclamation triangle with the little android.
Is there any way through a command prompt (or other method) that I can fix this? I tried to re-flash the RA recovery image through the command prompt, but the response was, "waiting for device."
ANYTHING that anyone can suggest to help, I would be so thankful! I've been loving the nexus, and hate to think that I crippled it
Thanks in advance,
Randy
I doubt its bricked.
Noticed you didnt mention that fast boot doesnt work? (power button+trackball) try it.
Once you get to fastboot you can flash any ROM back. (fastboot flash **** commands from a command shell)
Did you ever perform a Nand Backup from Recovery?
It's not bricked, the only way to brick is to interrupt power when flashing a Radio image
Connect phone to PC. Open command prompt.
adb reboot recovery
Wipe, reflash.
So far, nobody has managed to brick a Nexus. There is no way as the fastboot mode can restore the whole phone and can't be messed with. Make sure you have the latest version of the SDK with correct USB drivers and fastboot. Then try and reflash the recovery image.

It worked!!!!!
It worked!!
britoso, thank you soooooo much! The only way that I knew to get into bootloader/recovery was via power button/volume down, but power/trackball brought up the bootloader screen, and I clicked on fastboot. I was able to flash the RA recover image through the command terminal via fastboot, then able to get into recovery. I had cyan and modaco sense on the sd, and was able to flash one of them on.
I never thought I'd be so happy to see "quietly brilliant"!!! I WILL buy you a beer, a case in fact as soon as money clears my paypal account.
I have learned my lesson, research research research. (I did do some, but not enough to feel comfortable with what I was doing - hence my cry for help!)
Other than the phone and OS itself, the thing I like most about the nexus is the fact that one CAN root, and then customize (sold a Telus moto droid because I could not do that very thing).
I digress... thanks again so much!
And Paul, thanks for your sense ROM; I've had HTC phones from the Touch to the the diamond to the Hero, and missed the UI!

Glad to hear it. You learn the most by trial and error.
I think i got the same problem. i tried to Unlock Bootloader and Root Google Nexus One which was successful but then i tried to superboot it and when it came to the part where you "double click the ‘install-superboot-windows.bat’ file" i clicked it but it did not go to the nnext screen where the superboot completes it just stayed at the "bootloader screen". i must hve not done something or done something wrong i dont know.
So then i unplugged the phone from the pc and rebooted it. when it reeboted i wasnt getting any network, the phone was slow and the notification bar would not slide down...also i noticed the phone restarting on itself...
/i tried all kinds of "restore to factory settings" but not solved. Can anyone tell me what to do tht will work. I coud not understand what was said in the above thread as i am new to this android n my first time rooting n stuff n i believe that solution would work for me too..if some one could please explain in simple tirms the steps i need to take would be good...
Really appreciate it....

Tell me what i need to download again and how to go about it...i really need my phone working again ((((
Hi all!
Seriously in need of some expert help from your kind selves. Basically my phone is rooted with custom roms. I'm needing to try to get it back to normal as it has developed a hardware fault in the way that the volume key doesn't work, more so the down volume. Sometimes the up volume works when it feels like it. The camera itself has also been playing up and not working at times (not sure if this would be hardware related). As you can guess I'm wanting to get the phone repaired under warranty. The major headache comes when I need to get into the bootloader and I can't with the down button not working. Earlier I flashed a different kernel and when the phone went to reboot all hell broke loose. I'm currently stuck on the white screen with HTC logo. So without getting into the bootloader to try to recover I'm in serious bother! I tried this link and followed all the steps but in the end it just kept giving me an unknown error message
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=841890
I'm just trying to get the phone back up and running and then will take it from there to return it back to stock if possible. One thing I didn't try was the fact I have a 1.84 rom on and tried to flash with 1.72. May well try a 1.84 later on when I get the chance.
I hope you basically understand what I've done and what I'm trying to achieve and the problems I've got.
Thanks in advance if you can provide any solutions or ideas to try.
oooo boi thats gota hurt... but dont worry.. download "quickboot" from the market with it u can go to bootloader and cmw recovery .. about the rest.. i didnt get it.. u have 1.72 stock ruu and u want to get 1.84 ? why not just use 1.32 old rom and send it back repair guys ?
Find the downgrade thread in the Dev section, download the PD98IMG.zip from that thread. Put that on your SDcard.
Now you want to boot into bootloader which maybe difficult given your button predicament. I am sure there must be a fastboot/adb command to do this, possibly
fastboot reboot-bootloader
The bootloader should read and flash the PD98IMG.zip automatically, returning you to stock.
Hi mate. I had same problem my volume buttons don't work at all but i managed to flash latest recovery witch let's you scroll with home button don't no if this helps but try it
Thanks guys for trying to help. Leatherface I'm stuck on the white boot screen with htc logo and it won't go any further so can't get into market to download any apps. Or is the program you're talking about available for pc? I have custom roms on and not stock but want to put stock back on to send in for repair.
AndyHarney I will try your advice later but obviously as soon as I turn phone on it goes straight to the boot screen so I really can't see how I could get into the bootloader any other way but I may be wrong. Hopefully I am!!
Biggy I did flash with the latest CWM right before it went beserk but still no way of getting into bootloader.
I'm off for an Easter drink now to take my mind off it coz it's stressing me out and will return soon to butcher my phone a little more lol
Happy Easter
Of course, to use fastboot you need to be in fastboot in the bootloader.
Using the app Leather|Face mentioned, is there an option to boot into bootloader?
Anyways, enjoy your bank holiday.

as long as the rom ur using is not cynogenmod7... ur warranty isnt void my friend
did u try to re-flash a rom ? trying flashing a fresh rom.. full wipe ur phone before.. bellow in atttachment is full wipe.. download it extact it and put "full wipe 1.3" in ur sd card.. and put a rom there too.. then boot into recovery.. 1st do a full wipe.. then flash the rom.. see if that solves ur problem doode..
Edit : aaa crap.. i forgot u cant go into bootloader.. :|
Edit 2 : the guy 2 posts above said that u can use ur home key to navigate thro recovery... maybe u could use it for booting it to boot loader too.. donno lemme try if that can happen
Edit 3 : no that didnt work... btw abt 6 months back... on my samsung galaxy s... volume keys wudnt work so i couldnt get into recovery to get make to stock rom because i was using custom roms... i cudnt do anything and i was still under warrantly. so i perposly bricked ma phone to the extent that no matter wat u do with it, it wudnt switch on.. and i was sent a new one
If you are trying to get into bootloader another way worked for me but maybe not every. Body is to flash a new splash with android flasher then pull cable at correct moment when it boots into fastboot briefly. He'll it works for me LOL

thanks for letting me knw man... i cud use that if nothing else is possible lol
my down volume key does not work either, and i have had difficulty with this.
i have just tried to install a theme, and reboot and it was stuck on white htc screen.
plugged phone into computer, use adb reboot bootloader and load up recovery from there..
I flashed a full wipe zip by mistake and with no volume buttons i thought i was screwed but after two days trying i found i could only go back to stock 132 every thing else would fail?
For anyone who is in this predicament, if you can't or are unwilling to use adb, then if you download and install Droid Explorer, there is the option to boot into bootloader, flash other ROMs and loads more besides.
Nope... u just need. To. Root and eng s off and s off again...then ur back in business

like someone said before, you can access the phone with adb and forget about touching the controls on the actual phone, it can go into bootloader, and from there i guess you can reflash or recover your stock rom
adb is more simple than it sounds, it's just sort of like remote control via the computer
I've tried adb fastboot as suggested but all it says is <waiting for device>. I've tried plugging device in and turning it on both before and after entering this command but the phone just immediately goes to the white HTC screen. Also tried Droid Explorer as suggested but I can't even get that to install as it throws up an error message during install!! I'm not having a good time with this phone at the moment lol
If you downloaded the PD98IMG.zip from the downgrade thread, and download Quick Boot from the market.
Put the zip on your SDcard and use Quick Boot to get to the bootloader. From there is should be an automated process, and your phone will be restored to HTC stock.
I'm unable to get into the market to download anything since the phone doesn't boot
Ok I'm back in business. Just managed to flash a clean rom. Some nice chappy on another thread was also having the exact same problems as me and he managed to sort it out and helped me. The commands are ADB REBOOT RECOVERY or ADB REBOOT-BOOTLOADER. I was typing FASTBOOT REBOOT-BOOTLOADER as mentioned in an earlier post and wasn't getting anywhere.
However I'd like to thank you all for your efforts and now I should be able to return the phone to stock and get it shipped off for repair with peace of mind that they won't whinge that the warranty is null and void.

ROFLMAO !
Hi there,
I had been umming and arring about rooting and installing a new ROM one of my familys HTC Heroes for some time now and finally after reading lots of "How to's" on lots of different forums I decided to take the plunge and give it a go using the guide on here.
Both my wifes phone and my sons phone are sim unlocked Orange HTC Heros running 2.1-Update 1.
Rooting it was easy. One press of a button and I was there. Its pretty much worked OK and I have sucessfully made three backups of the wifes Hero.
My main query and this is the bit I have not really been able to find much info about despite spending a day trawling through the forums looking for similar queries is this:
Having flashed my recovery image file, the first time I reboot I can get into the recovery mode just fine. From here I can make a backup of the current ROM after which the Hero reboots and goes back into the OS as it should.
If I then shut it down and reboot using the HOME key + POWER option It does not go into the recovery mode. I get the screen with an image of the phone next to a red triangle with an exclamation mark in it.
Using the advice from various forums whilst searching for further advice / hints I have left the phone for up to half an hour but it stays on this screen. The only way to get it out of this screen it to pull the battery.
If I then boot up the phone and reflash the recovery image, I can then get into the recovery mode once again but for ONE BOOT ONLY.
I have tried AmonRA Revcovery v1.7.01. and also the Clockwork Recovery 2.5.0.7 images and both produce the same results. I have tried flashing the images via ROM Manager and also via Android Terminal Emulator
My question is this: Do I have to flash the recovery image EVERY time I want to open the recovery mode or is there something I have missed? At present I have held back from installing a new ROM in case I go past a point of no return where I brick the phone. Neither my wife or son would be too pleased despite my son wanting a better ROM on his.
Apologies for writing "War and Peace" but I wanted to make sure I had covered all I could and hope this is a) not a query already posted elswhere which I have missed b)posted in the right place. Apologies to any forum mods if its not.
Regards
Rhinestone.
hmm look on the unlokr.com or something like that. They use some simple passes and it's the way i did it. the on;y difference is that my phone wasn't blocked on a carrier...
1.there is a program that roots the hero's rom
2.after that i recommend installing clockwork recovery mode (it doesn't need signed zips)
3.if you don't feel safe doing this, i recommend to stop... I know that the 2.1 rom is boring but you can end up with a bricked phone after this...
The official 2.1 update has a script that reflashes the stock recovery every time the phone is shut down.
Hunt about for a modified 2.1 rom, all of them have had that script removed. I'm not a huge fan of sense now, but when I did use it, I found villainrom to be a good 2.1 sense rom.

This, just flash a custom ROM and it will stick.
Hello,
Problem might be with rooting, possible it has not been rooted completely or anything messed up. You can try this for rooting.
http://unrevoked.com/
If you are sure its rooted completely, then check out Superuser apps, if its there, and you are rooted, if not then download terminal emulator and type "su" command, if its doesnt display any error then its rooted.
Other then this,
problem might be with the recovery images you are flashing, download droid explorer its a window application, its has an option of flashing recovery with one click, simply choose recovery image & flash it, clockmod recovery or amonr any of this you can get in xda.
Hey all there,
i just bought for some cheap money a milestone 2 on the bay with bootloop problems.
it startsup like this:
just power on with the power button:
red m logo, after some seconds it turns for about a half second to a black screen, again red m logo, and again and again and again
enter the bootloader works fine - 70.13
enter the system recovery works on charger, wiping out didn't help
flashing with rsd lite worked, but didn't change the situation with the bootloop. even after flashing, and wipe out after that.
i'm using windows 7 32bit and x64 on another computer in combination with rsd-lite 5.6
with rsd-lite 4.9 or earlier my device isn't recognized. admin and compitibility is on at all versions of rsd-lite.
anone an idea how to get this stone working again?
i'm a little confused, cause i saw so many posts, of people getting the stone back after flashing with rsd...hmm any help is pleased
greetz
Download rom GingerBread of UK
http://www.multiupload.com/TUZHXCGLMZ
Flash with RSD Lite 5.6... reboot
make wipes (POWER and X....... Vol + and Vol -)... reboot
has to boot normally ...
Just tried several versions of firmware. nothing did work.
i'm thinking about getting the 70.13 bootloader file and flash the bootloader once more.
or give it a try and flash the phone with an update.zip over recovery mode.
but first problem is: i don't have the booloader and the only mirror was megaload, at second i don't have any oem update.zip files. well i will look forward. can't understand why the phone is still looping.
would be happy about any other good suggestions.

Bootloader 70.13
thanks a lot for the bootloader, but did not help. still bootloop.
now i tried all german, DACH, UK GB fimware.
always rebooting and wiping.
Tha phone is still in bootloop.
May be an OEM update.zip could help. i still got access to the recovery mode.
is it possible to boot from the recovery mode into openrecovery, when the bootloader is original? don't think so, but will try that now.
still happy about an help here.

Don't use a 2 ou 2.2 android..I think it's on GB so you can't downgrade..
Charge your battery to 100%
Folow the step here with a 2.3.4 SBF take here
Have a nice day.
Hey all there,
i already tried to flash GB 2.3.4 Firmware for: Germany, DACH, UK - didn't work out.
of course i did a wipe after installing.
also i tried a rebuilt by renaming CG66.img into CG37img - didn't work out.
just saw, that when i rebuilt the firmware after changing cg66.img to cg37.img, the cg37.img file doesn't appear in the new built SBF.
any reason for that? hmm...
while depacking and rebuilt a SBF i saw, that the RAMDLD.img (ramdownloader) in the 2.3.4 GB DE retail SBF is in version 70.12. i'm no expert in built SBF files, just did this the first time, but could this have an incompatibility with the 70.13 bootloader?
well cause the phone was quite cheap, i will go on trying. may be some more of you guys have any ideas.
the standing now is:
reflash 70.13 bootloader - didn't work out,
flash any 2.3.4 GB SBF and wiping out data after flash - didn't work out
flash update.zip from recovery mode - haven't tried yet - need update.zip file or instruction how to built one.
the last point is my next step i think. i will now go reading how to get this manage.
any help is welcome!
greetz
Okay just learned, that flashing an update.zip with system recovery, doesn't erase any data on the phone, so will look forward, trying flash the phone with sbf under linux live cd.
may be this will help.
does anyone of you know some hardware testing tools for the milestone 2?
to test the ram/rom hardware...
i'm starting to think, that some of the hardware chips may be damaged.
hmm i always thought, that it is not possible to brick a stone with original bootloader/rom-image/firmware. just starting to learn, that it is possible although.
any help is welcome guys! my ideas are going to end.
greetz
Got still no luck and tried to flash it with sfb about 16 times now. RSD-Lite tells me it was everything okay, but still bootloop.
Any good ideas?
Greetz
You have no real idea of the phones history, so you may have to accept the possibilty that it could be a hardware issue. Perhaps it has taken some water damage (the indicators do not always end up going off btw - I fell into a pool fully clothed and the nokia i had at the time wouldn't ever recognize a sim again, yet no water damage indicators get wet somehow . Yet the rest was soaking)

A thought occurs.... does it actually have a sim card slot? Like... is it possibly a Droid 2? :S

I know it's a bit extreme to do, but it might help for you. Try installing ubuntu or wubi, then use sbf_flash on ubuntu. It takes some time, but if you REALLY need to SBF you should give it a try. Usage is:
chmod 777 sbf_flash
./sbf_flash /path/to/sbf/file

Got that from the recovery thread.
I dug up this guide to using ubuntu live cd to flash sbf's for the droid 2, hopefully you are switched on enough to workout what you need to do differently for the MS2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804088
I'd try that and see what happen
Hey guys,
first: thx to DreadPirateDan. you're right, i don't know enough about the phone. So i sat down after work and startet to read and with all the basic information i know about the phone. While analysing all the things i just saw a special thing in the bootloader:
When the phone is switched on into bootloader, the screen shows:
"Bootloader Fastboot mode
70.13
Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB"
So it seems that i've got the fastboot script active. So i should do everything with the phone i want to do, right?
i will go on reading. maybe i will find any way to check all the files.
Is it possible, that the phone loops because of fastboot mode and a secret saftyissue which bans all phones booting with active fastboot?
May any of u check on a not rooted and for difference rooted milestone 2, if the fastboot notify is standard?
Btw - got a Sim-Slot, so it seems to be a Milestone 2.
greetz
This ones a long shot - but if you have another USB cable available, try using that. Perhaps the one you are using is somewhat damaged - not enough to cause errors flashing, but enough to corrupt data? I don't know but i'd certainly give it a try! .
---------- Post added at 08:00 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:59 AM ----------
Yeah that's the screen of bootloader saying it's all sweet to flash with rsd-lite
So that's a good sign
I'm concerned perhaps it's had some physical damage to the system storage.
I'm just confused, your steps appear to be all correct, what you've done allready, and it should have worked allready!
How did u get into Bootloader Fastboot mode???
Are you sure it says 'Fastboot' coz Fastboot could mean unlockable bootloader?
May be some developer could throw some more light on this.
When we first got the Chinese GB link I remember there were a couple of guys who had deceloper phones.. They never explained how they'd got them though lol

Fastboot confirmed
Hey Guys,
well its definitly Fastboot. I installed Android SDK yesterday and tested a little bit.
I can flash images through fastboot and all those things.
Poblem is, i'm not so familiar with all those things. I know a little bit of electronics but not so much about how software and specially android works with the hardware. Just started yesterday to read about this.
Attached are some pics of my phone during bootloader and how it looks.
Now it would be first nice, to get this thing work!
Because at the moment it hangs still during booting, cause i don't know so much about how to flash from fastboot.
When it is true, that this could help this forum here, i won't sell it anymore. But i need help to work all this out.
I contated parallely the customer service of motorola at my country, to ask, if this device has still waranty via IMEI, but they don't have this IMEI in their database.
So come on guys, more information, how get the phone work again, may be with any rom we wish someday without hacking anything

I have the same problem. tried to bootstrap after ive installed cyanogen 7 and now im stuck on the M logo. wiping cache or factory reset won't work
thing is the links for sbf files at and-developers won't work :\ so now i cant flash anything
plz help
Alot of file sharing stuff got shut down just recently that's why all the links are dead
if you had previously upgraded to gingerbread, that is your problem - cm7 doesn't work with it. Have a crack at the dowgrade method endless7 has and then you can flash cm7 with CWM.
ok, i figured it out. just searched google for one of the builds. flashed it and it turned out to be a french retail version of froyo. installed MIUI rom. works fine
I maybe resurrecting this but I need help. I got my milestone 2 yesterday and then I rooted it successfully and then I tried to use ClockworkMod (Rom Manger mainly) to flash CM7. and well my phone is stuck in a boot loop now. It starts with a red M logo and then it goes to the CM android sliding in and the circle spinning then freezing and going again. I can only get into bootloader mode and when ever I plug my phone into my computer to use RSD it says chip error 43. I can't even find an SBF for my phone since all the links where to Megaupload. Please help
EDIT:
Okay so I just used the newest version of RSD and got a SBF for my phone but still the same thing happened. This time RSD kept on going and the CM android did what it was doing before.

This time RSD kept on going and the CM android did what it was doing before.

hi,
Can you please explain clearly if you are able to boot CWM recovery or are you just getting a boot loop and unable to boot to recovery? As far as I know you won't be able to flash clockwork mod recovery for the Milestone 2 using ROMManager .You need to use Droid 2 bootstrap recovery.
Ok, i realize i have a different phone from this thread but it is close and my problems closely reflect the issues ive seen with the Galaxy S.
A little background. Im no perfect i know what im doing when it comes to rooting. I have an HTC Tbolt and rooted many of those, an older touch pro 2, and this is first time doing a samsung. I am getting the hang of ODIN (i wish everyone would just use this program instead of bouncing back and forth between heimdall and ODIn but whatever) Im liking ODIN cause it works well. I was successful at flashing a new rom into this Samsung phone. 95% of it worked, wifi i think didnt but everything else worked. While trying to fix the phones wifi somehow i have stopped the phone from booting into CMW recovery unless forced or booting into a rom. I can get into CMW but i must hold down the Vol Down button to get there, otherwise a clean basic boot takes me to the stock android system recovery screen and will not boot a rom.
I have something backwards or out of order. I am just trying to get the rom to identify the installed CMW and the installed ROM through CMW but it wont do it.
Any help would be appreciated, i dont want my GF to find out i jacked her phone lol
Which phone do you have? SGS? I can just talk about SGS+ but I guess its similiar.
Try to install CWM with Odin, normally it should replace the stock recovery (haven't heard of both running at once).
Once you have installed CWM you can install your custom ROM with CWM (look at the install instructions).
If you want to install stock ROM with Odin it will replace your CWM with stock Recovery.
Post the link of the thread/recovery you want to flash.

Its a stratosphere. Im using the root and / or stock files in the root method. I use ODIN to flash the StratCWMRecovery.tar.md5 and if i tick "reboot" then it reboots into CWM i install a rom or stock rom and it finishes. I reboot the phone and it instantly goes back to android system recovery. If you like ill make a short video to give you an idea of whats going on.
I will note that im close to making a jig but its not 100% bricked obviously. 3 button method still works (and unecessary at this point since all the phone does is go straight into the stock bootloader) and then after i install CWM i can force it in to CWM but it wont actualy boot into it.
From a programing standpoint i feel the pointers or partitions are incorrect. Its like booting a computer that has a hard drive with windows installed however getting the bios to tell it to boot from the hard drive isnt working. THats the easiest way to explain this.
One thing i want to note is the only errors i am getting are when i try to partition the SD card from CWM. I get an error saying sdparted is not found.
I am not getting a full understanding of how the root system works on this phone.
Again any help is appreciated.
Made a short video. Its uploading now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFZ5Adm5AdQ
So whatever i did i was able to fix. I think me being a very visual person and normally having access to all files i need or could use in a situation is always nice. Here, i didnt but i found them. Here's the link. Its obviously for stratosphere but i took about 10 minutes and let ODIN install all these files and it worked.
original posting but the link doesnt work for download

Again this is for stratosphere. Since it really helped me return to stock and allow me to re root in about 15 minutes this thread should be moved but there is no stratosphere area
