If you are running a version of Stock Gingerbread and it's worked for you for at least 4 days without a reboot, please check in here and answer the following questions:
What version ROM, what version modem?
Are percent of the time do you typically spend in a low signal strength area?
What options did you have selected in ODIN when you flashed it?
What launcher do you use?
Is your phone rooted?
How many apps do you have installed, and are not from an "official" market?
How long between charges?
Anything else you may thing contributes to your success with Gingerbread?
You can see where I'm going here. Some people seem to have great luck with gingerbread, others (like me) keep having reboots. Perhaps there is something common between all the lucky users that we can figure out.
1. EH17 on both
2. If I'm at work, I have hardly any phone signal, but usually a bar of 4G. Outside of my office, I get a few bars of 3G.
3. Used Heimdall 1.3 over EH06 which was over EG22. Flashed everything but data, cache, and recovery.
4. Zeam Launcher
5. Yes, rooted.
6. Dozens of apps installed. From official and Amazon market. One app not from any market.
7. Charge daily. Leave on charger at work.
8. Luck of the draw on my phone?
Eg22 rom and modem. Maddoggins lock. Never a reboot. Working nicely. Seems after freezinga few thing the battery is gettting under control. Not even concerned w another flash til an official is released.
1. EG22, ROM and modem
2. Inside my house, there are some dead spots but outside its usually alright
3. Umm i think i put the tar or whatever in phone not PDA and no reset time(obviously)
4. GO Launcher EX
5. Of course
6. Um i think all are from official market that i can think of...?
7. I usually charge every night or just put in a spare battery
8. Well i use Eg22Plus Kernel and qbkings overscroll and battery percent mod. Also use necrosans Eg22 hotspot hack. Ive had one reboot EVER on gingerbread about 2 or 3 days after flashing EG22 but it was after tethering for 3 hours straight haha and i think the phone was just overloaded.
1. EH17 w/ ee03 modem
2. I usually have 5 bars with 3G when I'm using data, and on 4G I'll have two bars most of time. I guess every where I go in Nj have great signal.
3. I don't flash Roms with ODIN.
4. I used Tw4.5 by fr4ggor mostly, now I'm using spb 3d launcher.
5. Yes, I'm rooted
6. I have 28 apps installed from the official market.
7. I use my phone till it dies then charge it once it's dead, until its at a reasonable percentage, maybe like 60% - 70%.
* Idk why gb is successful for me I've been running the supercharger script and selecting option 12 & 9 with the last 3 GB builds*
*I usually delete the five terminal emu. that's installed with gb.*
I too had no reboots on EG22 rooted Bonsai B14. Will probably go back to that until then next leak and install the EH17 Browser with it. My reboots on everything else came with Wifi and also an Airave. So it is not signa related for me.

Never had reboots with any of the leaks unless I screwed around (prematurely hit disable or enable when it was already enabling/disabling) with wifi tether but that happens on ec05 as well.

I was on Stock EH06 across the board for a week or 2 and had no random reboots
I'm running eh17 v1.3 or hurricane rom and no reboots whatsoever
I'm running it with eh17plus kernel, and aio mod.
Oh and using the v6 script too

Stock EH06 with EH06+Kernel, EH06 Modem, and Honeycomb Theme 2.1
I also use AMM with my own custom values, but no other mods or modifiers
Haven't had a reboot for awhile, pretty much not since flashing the theme

There is now way possible that anyone of us can be 100% sure that we haven't got a random reboot unless we stare at the phone 24/7. The reboots can happen even when we are not attending to the phone or over night in our sleep.
I've had my phone work fine all day and when I get up at 0400h in the morning find my phone just finishing an SD CARD Scan because it rebooted.
IMBO, I believe that this affects all GB roms from the 1st leak to this last one, its an ongoing situation with Sammy / Sprint, possibly thats one of the reasons why we see an increment in the RDF pages...

Actually it's pretty easy to tell. Look at the uptime under Settings>Status>Up time. The number resets with every reboot. If you've never had a reboot it should correspond to the number of hours since you turned on the phone.

What version ROM, what version modem? EG22, Using EH06 modem.
Are percent of the time do you typically spend in a low signal strength area? A good amount here in NH.
What options did you have selected in ODIN when you flashed it?Just the middle option checked, modem in phone slot.
What launcher do you use? Varies. LP, GO, trying out Zeam
Is your phone rooted? Yes
How many apps do you have installed, and are not from an "official" market?Probably a couple
How long between charges?6-12 hours depending
Anything else you may thing contributes to your success with Gingerbread? Had a lot of bad luck with different combos of roms, kernels, and themes, I am staying pretty stock until official comes out. My gps works on EG22, and I get the upgrades of GB in general so I'm happy.
What version ROM, what version modem? V1.3 Hurricane[ERA]
Are percent of the time do you typically spend in a low signal strength area? Med-High signal strength
What options did you have selected in ODIN when you flashed it? Used the ".pit" fle nd "repartion" and "auto reboot" selected.
What launcher do you use? I use Go launcher EX.
Is your phone rooted? Yes
How many apps do you have installed, and are not from an "official" market? I have about 25 apps installed 3 aren't from market.
How long between charges? Usually 8-10 hours because of school.
Anything else you may thing contributes to your success with Gingerbread? Hm I feel the repartioningwith the stock deodexed rom helped and the hurricane rom is problem free, and using the EH17plus kernel seperate flash. Oh and the V8 Supercharger update-9 beta-ish script using the multitasing settings.

Oympus ROM, messing w v6... anyways, just wanted to point out, I get the reboots, sometimes with a lockup, that do NOT show up in uptime or the battery stats (stock). had one 12 hrs ago and both didnt catch it. Mine does the soft reboot, just blacks out then comes back a second later, starting into the SD scan. About every 3rd time, it locks up first, I cant get any response from onscreen or cap. buttons, then it vibes one quick burst then reboots. RAM crash? My ram is still high, any tips on a V6 setup would be appreciated, tried suggested ones around...

Grab the latest V6 (update9beta2) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276
MegaRam option #9 worked wonders for mine. Tried other options, but was still getting frequent 'soft' reboots when memory would leak out completely. I simply installed Advance Task Killer to monitor reboots, because anytime it would do a soft reboot the little green guy would be back.

Hi,
ever since last week when I updated to 2.2.2, my battery life has been crap. In the half hour it takes me to get ready and drive into work, the battery goes down to 60%. with 2.2.1 it was like 98% so something is messed up.
Nothing else has changed, no new apps.
I did the froyo update manually so I sort of know the mechanics of the process but I'm just wondering if I need to go back to stock and then to froyo and then the updates or if I can just download the 2.2.1 image and update with it.
thanks,
I have the same problem :/
Obvious answer but have you tried a factory reset? I would take a stab at it before using more aggressive solutions.
Failing that you can flash a stock rom using the passimg.zip method and OTA back up but at some point you will be back on 2.2.1 and getting nagged to update to 2.2.2 again.*
*It could be that i'm using the European varient of the firmware but i've not had the best of luck flashing back to older versions (It's a long story). Suffice it to say, every method failed at some stage so i flashed a 2.2.2 stock/custom ROM instead.
I'm getting consistent 20hrs+ to 30% running CM7 nightly. Can understand wanting to keep it simply stock and CM7 is pre alpha but my battery performance is about double.

Did I understand you correctly? You could only get 10 hours of your battery on stock rom?! And is there really a positive difference in CM7 battery performance? I know that some people (including me) had problems with that on CM6 so in my eyes CM is not the most battery efficient rom. Just curious..
About OP's battery problem. My N1 no different than before 2.2.2 update. Battery life seems the same. +1 for factory reset.
Cheers!
it could be time to root and go cutom
I had the same problem
And found out that it was google syncing (which i could not fix whatever i did). I wiped everything and started again.
This fixed it, however here are some tips to get good life on the nexus.
(This worked for me and saw my nexus 1 last 1.5 - 2 days before getting to 30%)
1: goto dial pad and do the *#*#info#*#* under phone set it from WCDMA to GSM perfered
2: Always use wifi where you can, wifi uses less battery than 3G, (this was a major saving in battery power for me) Set your wifi to always on (even when the screen is off). The 2 main places you spend most of your time is at home and work, set it up for those places and you will see your battery lasting a crap load
(my battery went from a drain of 7% a hour down to 2-3% by doing this).
Essentially I am just posting this to get my count up so that I can post in the development section.
I have been using the Droid 2 since October 2010. 9 months is the longest time I have ever kept the same model. Prior to that the longest was 1 to 3 months. Even though this phone doesn't work perfectly, the length of time I've been able to endure its use says a lot.
I had my device rooted within a few weeks of acquisition. When the GB leak came out, I had it instantly.
I am still kind of confused as to why I was too scared to install a custom rom. My first rom was Liberty GB .8 And naturally it was AMAZING and EASY. I love the liberty toolbox. My battery life was insane! So many configurations and options built in! I figured if one rom was this great, why not try more...I then tried the latest APEX rom. To me, that rom seemed a little slower than liberty, so I reverted to liberty immediately. Only one known bug presented itself, and that was the adjusting of volume with a bluetooth device, the call would end. After a few days of use, I decided to take the plunge to the almighty Cyanogenmod7...
The installation process was really easy. I already had the sbf files downloaded from switching to the newer rooted GB leak. After sbf'ing z4 root would not work, so I just used the easy one click pc method.
Installing nightly updates every morning probably isn't necessary but that's what I've been doing. I gotta say, I can't wait for a stable release of this rom. I think that this rom probably isn't for the average consumer, and to definitely experiment with something like Liberty first.
There are a few things that aren't quite up to par with this rom (which will be fixed with time I know). The camera app on this rom is actually not that bad. I have gotten used to it. But I can tell that when I have it set on 5MP, that the picture quality is not as good as the stock app. The flash is also not as bright, and I have seen a setting to tweak that, just need to get around to doing it.
With Liberty, I was honestly able to make it 36 hours without having to recharge my device, and was using it heavily (gps always on, bluetooth connected, navigating, phone calls, texting tons, etc). However, with cm7, even with sync off, bluetooth off, and brightness set to low, the battery seems to just fade away, even after re-calibrating it. And yes I am sure the fact that the battery percentage is in the notification bar, that being able to see each percent, might have a little to do with it. Even with the governor set at 600mhz, and profiles with setcpu, still crummy.
Anyway, I am thankful to no longer have problems with my keyboard backlight, and having the ability to use wireless tether, and netflix. (And I don't want to hear any negative remarks about it, because I constantly use wifi when I can, and I rarely reach 1GB of data use). My phone now runs FAST.
Alright, only 9 more posts like this to go.
So, overall, you would recommend Liberty above the others at this time?
If it came down to battery life as the biggest concern, by far, liberty. Its pretty darn fast too. But if you have an extended battery and are able to endure a few kinks for a short time, then try CM7.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Speaking of, I went back to Liberty! May go to 0.9 but the changes aren't that significant. It was nice to be able to cm7>LGB without sbf'ing!

I flashed Trigger Redux today... Having many force closes and super fast battery drain. Now that Ive dove into the 2.3 realm, is the CM7 builds any less quirky?
You've done something wrong. There should be no FC's. Build 16 is out too.
s15274n is right, sounds like something is wrong. I had a borked flash once, did a factory reset and it seemed to help out quite a bit. That is the easy fix, try it and if it works then great, otherwise flash again and revert back to stock first if you can for a clean install.
Thanks.. ill try flashing 16.
I'd say CM7 RC1 is your best bet. Ran Trigger previously and CM7 has been amazing--just a bit more refined (especially with glitch kernel).

Which voltage app do you use? Voltage Control or Pimp My CPU?
I'm not getting force closes though I am getting "program stopped unexpectedly" on trigger 16 ALL OVER THE PLACE. The browser is completely unusable, and my Gameloft games are saying they can't connect to internet or are not original copies. They are legit FYI! I will try a factory reset but I have my doubts.

That sucks that all that is happening to you. I'm on Trigger Redux build 15 and was on 14 and 13 and will flash 16. I have no problems at all. I have some battery drain but I also may need new battery and I use my phone very heavily.
I'd try to redownload the ROM, check the Md5 sum, and do an ODIN to stock, and flash the ROM again.
Better to start from scratch, make sure you get rid of all the ghosts and see if that fixes ya. If so then you know you had a borked flash or bug in your system
Well I'll be damned.... It worked. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Soooo I flashed Kernel and then installed Voltage Control.. dont know what settings I chose but it cause the phone to reboot and get stuck on the Glitch screen. Guess im taking a flight on Air Odin tonight...
If you're getting force closes go to

im not sure when this started but it seems like every rom, every kernal i use now my phone will close apps to a black screen and freeze up for different lengths of time. was doing it in stock, and now a custom rom. tried different kernals... seems to be worse when the phone first boots up. its almost like a force close but slower and i don't get the force close message. help
Edit: ok i brought up the ram manager and my ram would start around 250 and climb up before my eyes until the screen blacks out.... how do i figure out what is eating up the ram.. and why does it stop?

yeah odined to stock ec05 and it was just as bad. rebooting the phone actually made it worse... seemed like it took forever for everythign to stabilize. phone also seems to get hot but i could be wrong about that. not the battery but above the battery near the camera
Quite often this is caused by restoring old data over a new rom using a program like titanium backup. Sometimes you can get away with it between similar roms but restoring Froyo data on to a gingerbread rom will almost always cause lots of FCs.

I had this same issue. I was to a point of chamging phones.
I decided to watch 5 different tutorials/youtibe videos on how to odin back to stock.
In that process, 3 of the videos had different options checked. Yes, I decided to try each way, restoring apps/data from Titanium, each time.
After the first 2 attempts, and still seeing the freezes, I started to get some kind of com.google.apps process force close errors.
I was really ready to beat my phone up at this point.
So, after deciding, I've had enough, I said I would do it ONE more time. (There was still one more checkbox that another video was showing...)

Sry, my fat fingers pressed submit.
Anyhow, Ive 0 programming experience so, all of this might kust be a lucky fluke. When I odin'd, I checked all three options. Re-Partition, Autoreboot, And F. Reset Time.
Only 1 video of the 4 I watched said to do this.
I then restored my apps and data back w/ Titanium.
I did make sure that any data from OEM apps, was not broight back, as a precaitonary on my part. It was really driving me nuts. Hope this helps....

crap well it wasn't TW4... uninstalled it last night. today rebooted and same thing.... its so strange it only happens the most after i reboot the phone. black screen with the status bar up top. if i touch the screen the button lights will come on ... if i swipe down the status bar it will eventually come down.. but with a ton of lag
i guess i'll nandroid backup and start from scratch with odin again. bone stock no root see what happens.
EDIT: just noticed that the modem seems to reset every time it does this. didn't see that before cause it doesn't always make the no signal sound. but the bars on the status screen go dark and the little x pops up above them before the home screen redraws. so basically whatever i'm doing goes to black screen.. times out for 10 min with just the bar on top, modem resets and goes back to the home screen
ok i brought up the ram manager and my ram would start around 250 and climb up before my eyes until the screen blacks out.... how do i figure out what is eating up the ram.. and why does it stop?
man this is nuts... i've got android system info running and i'm watching the processes tab... all the programs start usign memory, then android starts killing them off until they are almost all gone then i go to black screen... i dont' know what the hell is going on
edit: tasks is showing android.process.acore twice, package com.fede.launcher. both are using 34.89 MB and have cpu at 100... however total CPU usage is only showing 7%
First, a bit of background. My wife won't let me root her Epic, mostly because she's had to return it 3 times for hardware failures and it's annoying to have to wipe the phone each time.
I told her to hold off on downloading the OTA update to Gingerbread, to make sure there aren't any crippling bugs that show themselves after the masses get a hold of it.
Is there any reason that she should stay away from the OTA update?
None go ahead and update

I'm not rooted, updated to GB, but I'm getting random reboots and freeze ups (had to pull battery each time). Other than that it's good to go. Battery lasts longer, but WI-FI range decreased.
If she won't let you root it and put on a GOOD ROM then the next best thing is the OTA so go ahead. It is easier to root on froyo and then flash a GB ROM though. I know a few "stockies" and they love it. No issues with their phones at all.
Before I rooted, EI22 was fast and stable. But I was getting problems keeping the GPS connected and WIFI was not as stable as in froyo. The only other problem I noticed is not being able to change the volume while the phone is next to my ear. Rooting and installing ACS ICS solved most of these
Don't wipe you're phone after the
Update, it will break wifi.

Ha-ha. My wife is the same with her epic.
Upgrade to gingerbread. It's much better even in stock form.

I'm on stock GB, lets see ..
1. weak GPS (i've never had gps issues before)
2. keyboard lag on physical keyboard
3. screen likes to come on during calls and then my cheek hangs up on people (lots of fun)
4. screen loses responsiveness randomly
at this point i'm ready to drop kick the phone out a 5 story window. so my personal recommendation is if you aren't going to use a rom, stick with froyo. also word just came out that there is a already a new 2.3.6 version of GB coming for the epic. Hopefully this update will fix some of these issues.
wife did OTA upgrade to gingerbread without my approval.
My wife has the original Epic and did the OTA upgrade herself, but has been complaining that battery life is far worst. It's been about 2 weeks maybe.
So I did a factory reset and so far so good. However, it's only been a few hours since I wiped it so only time will tell. I'm told wifi is buggy now from reading other posts, and will report back on that aspect.
If the battery life still suck, I'm going to be forced to root this damn thing and flash it with a battery saving rom.
Any suggestions? I'm new to the OG Epic when it comes to modding.... I'm on a rooted EpicTouch via Starburst.
going to start looking for a stable rom.....
thanks!
Thanks everyone. I kinda figured that there would be some common issues with gingerbread that they'll need to release a maintenance update for in a couple weeks.
I've been running CleanGB on mine and it's been awesome.
oh yeah i forgot to mention weak wifi. i can be 10 feet from the router and get 1 bar on wifi.
I used the flash update for GB that was posted here a while back and I can't say I've noticed any considerable improvements or diminution in quality apart from the GPS which appears worse than before. Battery life may be a bit better than it was under Froyo but there's no real incentive to upgrade from Froyo as far as I can tell.
A friend who installed via the OTA has been dealing with very poor battery life ever since - he says that Android System usage is up over 64% and is awake time is considerably longer than the time is screen is on for whatever reason. He told me he normally leaves GPS on all the time but the usage shows very minimal resources going to GPS. also, he never turns on WiFi and he's in a very strong signal area.
Wifi is fine here. Solid connection from a story away. If. I'm in the same room I get full bars and 65mbps link.
Also zero reboots on two household epics since the update.
But dude, you've got to put on a kernel to fix the keyboard. My wife thought I was a god when I did that for her on froyo, there was no question it had to be done again in gb. She sends hundreds of texts a week (over 2k texts in a month not uncommon) and the keyfix saves what must add up to hours a month in retyping.
Running swupdate or odin takes 5 minutes, tops 10...

I just got the message that I could install Gingerbread, but then it failed. Not sure why but Clockwork broke it.
So my question is, does GB fix the bluetooth problem involving wiimotes?
If she won't let you root it, then go ahead an OTA, if she has issues *let's hope so* then you'll be able to root and fix her issues.

I have the same issue. My wife has an Epic and she doesn't want me to change from stock. We just did the OTA GB update about a month ago and it broke a WHOLE bunch of stuff.
1) Random mic feedback/squealing.
2) 3G turns off unexpectedly, so when 4G isn't available we get no data service.
3) Gmail contact sync broke, getting google.apps. error message.
About to throw this thing off the roof. Maybe I'll convince her to let me go to Cyanogen 7.
I think most had all these issues because ota updates imo are a horrible and unreliable way to update. Especially updating over existing data from a previous build of android. Yea it sucks starting over, but... when you do it wipes everything clean and I rarely hear of people have those issues when it's done that way. I had issues myself at one point. Did a fresh odin install, formatted data, updated, formatted data again, then reinstalled everything fresh and haven't had any issues since. Like no issues at all.

I updated from Stock EC05 (Froyo) to stock EI22 (GB) as soon as the google download was available. That should be the same as OTA. I was in a rush b/c I tought the stability of GPS and bluetooth was bad on Froyo. I was wrong. The GPS was completely unusable after the update--GPS apps usually froze within 5min (GPS Status & CardioTrainer) and required multiple reboots to fix. Just a mess.
I was planning to do a factory reset and a clean install, but then I stumbled across GPS_fix for EI22. So I flashed the GPS_fix and it was stable after that.
After investing the time with time making sure I understood the process and how to back up and restore everything that was important to me. It is pretty painless.
Initially I did not consider rooting b/c that would preclude software support by Sprint. Well the couple times I went to the store for that, I was not impressed. If I know zero, I they know less than zero. So that is worthless. So why suffer for $100/mo when I don't need to. And Sprint still gets $100/mo, a Win-Win.
CWM5/CleanGB 1.0
Root it and throw CleanGB 1.0 on it in the middle of the night after backing up everything so she doesn't know you did anything to it. After she says how nice the new "Update from Sprint" is, then tell her you rooted it.
Problem solved!
