Convince me to get a G1

I have the option from T-Mobile to get the G1 for $150. This is to replace my HTC Wizard that I currently have.
Here's my questions.
#1 Are there working N64, PSX, Gensis, SNES, and Nes emulators on this?
#2 Is the App Store required to install software on the phone?
#3 How's the port of Quake 3, 2, 1 on it?
#4 What's the coolest thing you've seen it do?

For #1 & #4 Look at this webpage. I can't live without navigation, this phone just makes it easier
#2 No, you can do it through SDcard or USB. Most of them will have the market(app store) on pre installed though.
#3 Quake 1 has been released, very playable.

And regarding the coolness factor:
I just got it managed to install debian with bluediving and metasploit on it.
Now I have a portable BT-sniffing-and-hacking-machine.
At least imho this is quite nice

Hold up i can actually make phone calls on here? i've only been texting i didn't know it could do both!!! thank you so much i now don't have to go use a pay phone!!!

LOL, I love these kind of threads. With questions like these do they really expect a real answer. We shouldn't have to convince anybody to get a phone. Just knowing what the phone is about should be good enough.

Haha, just as I read your post the new iPhone ad came on "This is the new iPhone. It can do some pretty amazing things, like copy and paste!" My God!
Yeah they are everywhere, everyone has one, I don't want a phone that everyone else has...

No idea why so many people are angry. I'm not here to make fun of the G1.
The phone to me is superior to the iPhone. Apple has too much control of the app store. So much so that it caused this very person to fire bullets at his 3GS. Not to forget that this phone has a qwerty keyboard and some external buttons.
My concern is over software. I've seen a video of Quake 1 running on it very slowly, and I can't seem to find any ports of N64, PSX, Quake 2/3. I've heard that some people say it's because code is written as Java?
The price is also right. I just don't wanna go buy the phone and find out 1 year later a G2 is released, when the above mentioned applications are finally written and running full speed.

anyhow i wanted to know is there a way we can get 2.2 on x10i so we can have multi touch on the dam phone! b/c SE will take another 1 year to release this...

Also did ya ppl note that any games that made for iOS and then made for android this quality sucks as hell like game "UNO" its quality is horrible. compare to Iphone version. android need to get more DEVs to make hi quality games!

Also, Android 2.2 isn't going to magically make multitouch appear if the hardware doesn't support it.

Although I'm definitely not a fan of Apple and i-anything, seeing my friends' iphones and their neat apps and games, then buying my first android phone, I was really let down.
Android definitely owns in many areas, but there are just more developers who are willing to spend their time on iphones. If only google got their os out before apple...

[Q] Where to find decent games for the play.

I've had a look in market and the xperia play launcher, the games there are pretty basic and I don't like them that much, they cost too much. i was just wondering if their is a site out there that will allow me to download the best xperia play games for free.

I'm sure there is, but asking about warez here is only going to get you banned and have you ever though that the games might be basic because of people like you? what developer would want to make a game, if people are just going to steal it.

There are no decent games and even if there were good ones the controls will suck balls, the touch pads are a joke and who in their right mind would pay 1-10 bucks for a game that can be beat in an hour? I would just stick with fpse

Mass piracy has not stopped successful games from selling in any platform. The truth is that games are basic because we're not paying premium prices. A price range from 0 to 5 euro a pop won't buy you inventive stories, memorable voice acting and intricate, long gameplay. It will buy you Cut the Rope, Battle Bears or Eternal Legacy.

Too expensive? These games are about £3 at most, with a lot coming under that. The games are good, but the uptake of the play has been a bit slow so devs wont bother optimizing for it! Its down to Sony to get them to port their games across.
IMO the best games you can get are the ones that are pre installed on the play and Dungeon Defenders, other than that FPSE and the ~oid range are your best bets

I agree. The majority of people who pirate would likely not buy the movies/games/software anyway. I'm sure some would but most wouldn't. And the games’ being basic is because the devs are developing for the lowest common denominator which is the crapy touch screens. If we do get good Play Only games they will likely come from anyone with a steak in the Xperia Play.

Not sure what £3 is in Canadian but the ok games are $5-$7 in Canada. Not worth the chance if you ask me.

There are alot of good games WITH good controls! I'm in love with Rainbow six, Battlefield 2 and Backstab. But for the most of the time, I play Zelda OOT on N64oid, works like a charm

I love my xperia play i got so many games on it its awesome gameloft ones and other ones to. The touchpads work with so many games that it makes u feel like its not a phone but a console. Thats what i love bout it.

The touchpad/analog controls in some of the games are implimented in different ways. Some are true analog, and others are swipe. Some people like it one way, others like it another. I honestly wish they would allow an option to switch. However, there are plenty of decent games available for this phone, that although they may cost about US$5, that isn't terribly much. A coffee, or a game. even if the game is short, you would probably reach the same amount of enjoyment time from it.
If all else fails, there are some decent to good emulators out there and you can play all the old games you have from back in the day. NES, SNES, Genesis, Master System, NeoGeo, PSX/PS1, N64, etc. I think there is even some MAME goodness floating around for arcade carts/ROMs.
If you can't find a good game that works decently with the controller in that whole huge mess, then I suggest that maybe your criteria is set too high, and you would have problems finding suitable items on any platform at that high of quality requirement at that low of a price.

I'm sorry if I "attaked you" in any way. But you're very negative 90% of the time. And I'm not the only one who thinks that. I have stated many times that the battle bears game has them done right. I have said Gameloft games need better controls. Since I have 6 of them I have a right to state my opinion on them. Most of my posts are questions or helping others.

They aren't free but they are cheaper direct from gameloft than through the V-Cast store. Just pick your game, pick R800x and scan the barcode

A developer finally got the analog touchpads to work well

I got 9mm from Gameloft, and for the first time in ANY game I've played on the Xperia Play, the analog touchpads functioned well. I was shocked. It's amazing. Every other game I've tried them with was an absolute nightmare. Congrats to Gameloft. Just waiting on that Eternal Legacy 2 now

are you kidding? What about Dead Space and Battle field? IMO way better controls then 9mm. But that's just what i think.

Yeah dude a LOT of devs got the touchpads "right".
Dead Space, AirAttack HD, Age of Zombies, Sacred Odyssey, Samurai 2 Vengeance, PewPew 2, Pocket Legends, Star Legends, Backbreaker, Zeus Arena.
It's not something that just finally happened. Gameloft's actually notorious for inconsistent quality, if anything... they've made games with awesome aiming controls, then failed to follow suit sometimes.

There's nothing funny about how bad Conviction controls.
Modern Combat 2's at least "decent" if you have version 3.3.9 (and not that newest piece of ****)... Conviction is completely ****ing unplayable. It's not even good for a practical joke. I'm pissed and it only cost me $0.99.
Gameloft's entire Xperia PLAY dev team needs to go play EA's Dead Space, and re-model every last one of their gun games to work off the same acceleration/aiming physics.

I sort of agree. The absolute setting would work if you actually got a larger margin of customization for acceleration... but when I went to tweak it, it was already maxed.
Gameloft just needs to get their hands on Dead Space... and model all their controls off that.

Motorola Atrix 4G , i payed once by SMS and then by paypal.

in the photos and video i saw the game as usally!
GOOD LOOKING 3D/HD GAME! [Just as the video above shows!]
when i downloaded the game i got this EXTREME LAME GAME :
CANT PUT LINK BUT JUST GOOGLE THE JAVA GAME..
[of course .apk File that was installable and +- playable]
even though i choose precisely Motorola Atrix 4G as my mobile model
anyway i got small resolution [Half Screen] 2D Java Game!! WTF ?

Okay so i payed For 2 games and got 2 Unplayable incompatibility games.
i got scammed! , i asked them to refund or help and until now got 0 Answers
i used email to thier support team , i used thier website Tickets .
i used thier forum , NOTHING!.
can some one tell me what else i can do ?

Lol buy them through the phone. They will say our device is not compatible. Expecially if you buy the 3d game. Our phone is not 3d so that one won't work. The resolution is off because it's not for a qhd screen. So it's not gamelofts fault for your stupidity.

it like you will buy a Aspect ratio 16:9 movies for your D.V.D and Aspect ratio 16:9 TV and get 4:3 Movies even though it said it is for Aspect ratio 16:9 clearly

Other than submitting your concern and requesting a refund from GameLoft unfortunately there isn't much more you can do. Being the weekend it might not be until Monday until you receive a reply from them. Sorry for situation but there isn't much more that can be done.
