Hi there guys,
I've been using for a month GingerYoshi rom and I was very pleased with all those options available, although I had two serious problems.
1. When i lose signal (let's say because i am in a tunnel), it will never recover back to signal, even if i stand next to an antenna (!!). The only solution is to reboot. However I cannot check every 15 minutes whether i have lost signal or not..
2. My battery doesn't last very long. I thought maybe because it's old phone or whatever, but i flashed diet gingerbread again and with the same usage I get almost 2,5 days (as I was used to) whereas on GY i get 1,5 days...
So is there any solutions or tricks for both - especially for the first?
P.S. I have the new radio
Thanks for any answer and from my behalf i have to say many many thanks to yohshua for all his awesome work to upgrade our phones

Guys
Im a newbie so read this with a forgiving hat on. I have done a search too before anyone says it
My htc touch HD appears not to be perfect. It works, but after calls it can take up to 10 secs to update the screen which is truly annoying. However, my biggest bugbear is the fact that iPlayer from BBC works for 5 mins and cuts out. This is a constant.
I spoke with HTC and they said they have come across this bug however, it's only with Orange network phones that they cannot upgrade due to a Ms licence agreement with Orange. Orange have my query and are considering it (helpdesks eh!)and neither have they realised their version of the htc ROM update from early april either.
Anyone seen or experienced this and sorted it ? Thanks . The 'Lhad.
I didn't quite realise that Iplayer stopping was a bug. Its hugely frustrating watching iplayer and it happening. I put it down to dodgy wi-fi connection, so just stopped using my phone to watch stuff on.
I do have an issue with my phone in that I seem to miss loads of calls, I just get a text a few minutes later saying somebody rang but left no message even when I'm in signal. But I'm sure thats down to Orange rather than a bug in my Touch HD.
Flash with Dutty's ROM. It seems to resolve most of the problems with the Orange version
I have to admit... flashing new ROMs is the way forward. I spent three months tweaking my HD daily to try and make it less buggy and more functional overall (literally hundreds of tweaks, and just about every app under the sun). I finally decided to bite the bullet and flashed Dutty's v3 XT ROM when it reached version 3.0 (final stable release - except for the version 3.1 that came out today)... and... it really does make a huge difference in overall functionality. I am soooooo much happier with my device now.
At some point I will post the ridiculous list of tweaks and apps I tried, just for other peoples reference, but... ROM flashing is the way forward. Honest.
(Caveat: - Flashing will invalidate your warranty - but definitely worth it for a fluid functional device that doesn't crash at any and every opportunity).
Also... there's a lower resolution iPlayer APP on here called myPlayer... which is truly brilliant if you're not fussed about the loss of picture quality, but prefer an achievable data stream! Not very pretty, but very functional if you're on the move.
many thanks to sbarts and especially flid. I've downloaded dutty's XT Rom but really worried about doing the install. Is there a level of software that wont work etc?
Dont really know the questions to ask... just dont want to break the phone when it's only 3 month old! Again, thanks in advance for any advice.
Be Honest- Serious Question !
we are all like a one global family participatig in various topics from basic to an advanced level and we should be very happy and accept the fact that atleast on this matter we all try and thrieve to help one another as well as nicely rebuke anyone not doing the groung work before asking any question.
Its all well an good.
Now the more serious matter and please be honest. I will make a start by admitting that ever since I bought Android phone, I ended up spending more time flashing roms after rom and radios and what nowt! My life partner also noticed that I am spendig more time hooking that phone to bloody computer than actually putting up to me ear. She thought phone was more dear to me!
What does your partner think? We might have to srart councelling services for the worse ones!
I'm single, so no problem. : D
But, I don't think I'll be flashing my Hero often. I'm starting to appreciate actually using the phone rather than updating it all the time.
no problem here ...
I flashed my Hero twice, the new Stock ROM and last week the new radio ... and I'm very happy with how it works.
Flashing on a daƮly or weekle basis is something for freaks, who like to play. I've different playgrounds
Next time I flash will be Android 2.0 from HTC, until then I use it as a phone and enjoy all the nice apps
P.S. My favorite: OruxMaps, now with Geocaching features
My girl simply loves my hero, first of all she loves playing with it lol
No but with my previous phone (htc diamond) I changed roms more often because it simply didn't work as good as my hero. Als I had a lot more problems
with programs making a hard reset the only way out.
The only update I did was the oficial rom update, don't see the needfor a custom rom (not saying those are wrong or something, kudos to the people who cook them!)
So to be honest; I had my diamond connected to my pc far more often then my hero does. And when bluetooth is fully supported I don't see any need to connect it to
the pc.
I bought the Wife a Hero as well.
I do the experimenting and she gets to share the positives.
To be honest, I only did a couple of ROM updates and was happy with it. Once I found out that HTC are going to be shipping a 2.0 sooner or later, I just can't be bothered...

Using my Hero out of the box and the only update I did was the official 2.73 update. It's nice having something that "Just works" after spending a difficult year with the Diamond.
To be honest.... I came from a diamond too. With that said I flash a lot at first with it, but then I found a good Rom that worked. After that I got involved in the Android diamond port. And since I was a cdma user. Let's just say I spent more time in emulators, compiling and telnet then using the phone. Now I got a hero and everything works. I spent the first week on irc tryin to get it root. Now its root and I couldn't ask for more then 2.0.
Back to the subject though. My wife I believe likes my hero. I only fiddle with apps mostly now. She knows I love my phone and I know she's jealous of my phone. But only cuz she's stuck with an LG dare on Verizon.
My Wife thinks I am addicted to mobiles????? ................ ok I think I am too.
I have been happish on the official HTC ROM until a few days ago when I finally broke and rooted and flashed a cooked ROM to solve the Bluetooth issues I had.
Now its a dream and I wont flash it again until the official HTC 2.0.
Before I had a Diamond and an X1 and yes my wife was getting very frustrated that once a week a least I would lose an entire night or day of a weekend flashing and the setting up the phone again.
iPhone sorted that out but I got bored of the lack of customisation so off I went again to Android.
At least now I only rebuild once every few months so she is happer!

In my experience, I had my last phone hooked up to the computer a lot more (HTC Touch/Vogue.) I imagine this has to do with the closed nature of Windows vs the open nature of Android. Android is a lot easier for a ROM cook to work with, I would imagine. Also, the flashing process itself is far easier on the Hero, once it's rooted. At least IMO.
More topic specific, my gf has no problem with my phone addictedness as I mostly geek around with it while I'm at work.
hardly surprising responses from everyone! only a phone-o-phile would regularily visit a discussion forum about phones...
and yes my missus is constantly referring to my phone as my mistress. it almost always shares the bed with us and is the last thing I look at before I fall asleep...
All my previous WM units took a LOT of time.
But my Hero just works - all standard (rooted though), and upgraded of course.
No need to flash anything here
Not got my Hero yet, but my gf has been complaining that im 'obsessing' over it... but it should now be at home waiting for me when i get in today YEAY!
when i first got it, i spent loads of time flashing it, but now ive found a decent rom and radio that gives good batt life and reception, im happy
the next time ill flas it will be with the 2.0 hero rom.
you just need to find a rom that youre happy with
Man i got my Hero around 1 week ago and i have not stopped playing with it since, i flashed the Modaco rom, but after a couple of days flashed back to the most recent stock rom, due to problems with the gsensor. I have rooted he phone and i now spend most of my time installing apps!
I just cant put the Hero down!
Hello,
I'm using my HD2 on the french network of Orange.
I previously owned a P3600 and a HD1. With both of these phones I had a strong network signal inside my house (H with 2 or 3).
My HD2 is switching all the time between HSDPA, edge and GPRS.
I'm very disappointed with its network sensitivity.
Are there other users experiencing similar troubles ?
Thanks
Sebastien
+1 to that.and i am havinng another problem.
every time my phone switches from H to 3G i cannot connect to the internet.but when it goes back to H everything is back to normal.
Yes, having the same issues. Very poor signal. Every time I pick up the phone, I lose the signal completely. I have to put it down after composing a text, wait for the signal to come back and then send it.
Hopefully a future radio update might improve it.
Yes agreed - having very similar issues. My phone is also continually switching between 3G and GPRS. It does this seemingly at random. I do not change the way I am holding the phone, nor am I moving. doesn't seem overly good to me.
I seem to have form for buying phones that have poor reception quality. My previous phone (HTC G1) was just the same.
My wife has had a Nokia N95 then recently a Nokia 5800 - these have both had a far better and more stable network reception.
Ok i'm not alone !!!
I really need a new radio ROM !!
PLUS 1 more!
I AM really disappointed to pay 615 EUR for that ****! Of course the HD2 is not trash but the radio unit (with stock radio rom) is it indeed.
see signature for details.
Yes, even the stock Radio rom of my HD1 was far better than this one !
+1 more.
Even in an areas where the signal normally was great with my Kaiser it is now totally gone.
It's nice to have such a wonderful internet machine and not be able to find a good network to use it
There is a 1.48 TEST rom floating in the rom development subforum.
This has improved the signal tremendously for me as it has a new radio.
Proceed with Caution though as it is a TEST Rom, not supported from HTC.
You will lose your warranty if your phone develops a problem and if you need to send it in for repair with this Rom.
Once that has been said, its a great Rom with a lot better signal and a lot better battery life at least for me

Sorry, I'm new to WM. Is a TEST rom an official, beta ROM or some sort of custom build?
Its a beta Rom coming from HTC. It is official but not final. It is a Test
Yes, sorry to hear that guys, my hd2's radio is a **** as well. Same symptoms.
Hope a new ROM will solve this issue.

Apparently some new ones are shipping with 1.48 so there should be a stock build up soon.
Mine's due for delivery tomorrow so with any luck it will already have 1.48
Cool this new rom seems promising.
I will try it tomorrow I think !
I wonder if the crappy 3G and H (hsdpa) signal level is a 'local' ROM issue or is it common to all HD2 (WWE). Most reviews I'd read praise the reception capabilities of HD2.
I plan o migrate from HD to HD2, but if this is the case then I intend to wait till a better (official) radio is available.
me too. My previous HD had fully 4 bars 3G all the time in my flat. Now my HD2 switches between 3 and 4 bars. It has definitely worse radio reception than HD had. But only because of this I won't reinstall everything, I think a new official radioROM (and xSPL) will be out in a couple of weeks.
Kchris, yours seems very usable
On mine, the networks switchs all the time between H and E and G
What is very strange is that some people aren't experiencing any trouble with the network sensitivity.
Maybe it's just our phones which have a hardware trouble ???
That's weird, I have the WWE 1.43 ROM and the reception is actually better than on my old P3600.
It's also almost always on HSDPA (4 bars most of the time), it only switches to 3G on rare occasions (or after a soft reset, before the data connection of course )
What is the ROM version you guys have?
Hi guys,
So i'm running with the samsung captivate and as we know the development for that phone is completely outstanding and i'd say is probably the best for the Galaxy S lines in terms of quality of roms, and the variety you can choose from.
My buddy got a nexus S and he likes android but he's not happy with his nexus S as it stands now. His problems are mostly around slow browser, he says he has reception issues with vodaphone UK whereas before he had none, and the phone often hangs and can get slow, battery life is bad.
Now i wanted to ask you guys in the development forum if its worth it for me to root/unlock his nexus S (i've read up on unlocking the bootloader etc so I think I can pull it off) and load one of these custom roms. However, I dont think any of these roms are very well developed.
Do most of you experience good performance on the Nexus S with stock google updates? Do you think my friend has a dud phone, or should I go ahead and put Bionix on his phone? I dont want to be his tech support going forward, so I fear the rom is still very beta and I dont want to be stuck always helping him, but if one flash will set him for at least a few months i dont mind helping him.
Any thoughts? thanks.
edit: my face is red.. can a mod move this to general please ?
Um wow, well i got my nexus s couple of weeks ago, and i did run it with the stock for for almost a week, and i cant say the same things as your friend. The phone is really fast, battery is ok ( it dies as all the smartphones within a day if you play a lot with it ) and no hangings what so ever.
Maybe tell him to make a hard reset, or if he installed a lot of things, then try to install less things after the hard reset.
You can make it blazingly fast if you use a custom kernel, i was using modaco r10 as rom and 1.3ghz bionix kernel, and trust me it was fast fast fast. Only minor thing was the restarts here and there.
Other than that the phone is really fast and stable, with no problems whatsoever.
Wrong section, please avoid!

make sure your friend is using 3G and not stuck on EDGE
not sure which frecuency Vodaphone UK runs on, but last i recal they are on the same bands as Orange UK
Nexus S 3G runs on 900/1700/2100
Quick background. Phone HD2 1024. Running sd dual boot for the early summer last year I loved it but finally made the switch to full nand in late summer. The first android build I installed is still the one I am using, it is time for an update. I am using CyanogenMod-7-10012011-NIGHTLY-Desire[TyphooN_v3.6.8-clk] Build GWK74.
To be honest once I had my phone working so well I didn't spend much time on XDA. The constant data drops are driving me crazy. My sons factory mytouch works so much better in regards to data drops. I thought people complained about the data drops with the android HD2. At the time of my switch to nand I did hours and hours of reading to learn how to do it without bricking. Now I can't remember what I did and how I did it.
Question: Are the ICS builds better with the data drops? How can I tell if I used MAGLDR or CLK? Which thread is best for tutorial on updating nand? Is there a way not to lose all my stuff?
