Phone keeps switching off as soon as I turn 3g on! - G2 and Desire Z General

Hi all,
I've been having a problem with my HTC Desire Z for some time now, but have delayed posing here in the hope of it sorting itself out!
My problem is this; I take my phone off charge before work, at 19.45, nothing is draining the battery other than the phone being on, 3g is off, WiFi off, GPS, and Bluetooth all off! I check my phone at midnight, and 18% battery gone! I go on my break at 1 am and turn my 3g on to check my emails etc, and within 5 minutes my phone turns itself off! When I turn it back on it says 2% battery life left! I'm not up on phones and stuff but I know that 5 minutes of 3g usage doesn't drain a battery from 80% to 2%! I've used the 3g for longer than that without a problem before!
Android Version 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version 2.1
Hope somebody can help,
Craig

My first suggestion as usual. Try a factory reset

Also maybe look into flashing a new radio.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies, I've just performed a Factory Reset on my phone, but I still think there is an issue with it! Not tested it but will be doing so soon and ill keep ya posted,

Hey guys,
Ok so I've done my factory reset, but still it keeps dying after about 10 minutes! It's just gone from fully charged to 85% in 10 mins and then crashed out! When I restarted it, it said connect your charger! I'm going to call the company I got the phone from, see if they can fix it, if not HTC, and if all else fails ill buy a used iPhone from ebay!

I've swapped the battery back to my original HTC one, was using a replacement higher capacity one not made by HTC! So far it seems to be doing the trick, I've had about 5 hours of life, on constant 3g and its on 75%! Fingers crossed it keeps it up!
Thanks for the quick replies!

Actully I suggest you to change the battery, I think is that the problem

Thanks for the help all, I don't know what did it, be it the factory reset or battery change but I'm now getting well over 20 hours with constant 3g or WiFi on and background data on!

did you buy the battery off ebay? (when you had problem)

also maybe you can try battery stats reset, maybe the battery isn't actually fully charging even though it says it is. You could flash a new radio too, but if you have the stock one I don't see why it would cause problems.

Network time to improve battery life

Sorry if this has ben posted before but I am at work and can only sneak to use the phone. I am switching to evo 4g and my buddy found out that you can turn network time of and really improve battery life on devices that use sense. Settings-date and time-network time.

What percent improvement has he seen. I use my phone as a watch, so this does not seem like a worth while power management technique for me unless it improves it 10+ %.
Screenshots from System Panel would be appreciated.
I have found that disabling the mobile network data service off unless you are using helps significantly.

Care to elaborate? Or am i not getting the joke! It's early so might have went over my head....
Okay first off, I had an EVO 4G, went and got a Droid X and now want EVO back due to using way too many minutes on Verizon. Went today to get everything switched over and nowhere has an EVO around here. Basically my friend found in the desire forums about disabling network time and he tried it on his nexus one with 2.2 CM6 w/ sense and it significantly helped his battery. My buddy and his buddy with the Evo 4G were both going through about 10% an hour even not using it. The Evo 4G guy texted my friend today and said he unplugged his EVO from the wall at 2pm went to work and didn't play with his phone until 7pm. Still had about 80% battery. Went to bed around 12:30 am with 70% and woke up at 9:45 am with 64% battery. It is worth a try for anyone running sense.
Great story bro.

G2 battery draining fast!!

Recently my G2 has been acting up. First problem is when I charge it to 100% and start using it, the battery is down to 0 in 2 hours. This has never happened before. So I charged it again and this time I powered it off because I was at work and didn't need to use it right away. I tried to power it on and the battery was drained when I had shut down my phone. This is with the Cyanogen and Gingervillian ROM. I have no clue what's going on.
Okay yea... There was somebody with the same issue. Also had that problem not to long ago. I found out it was the battery and I called T-Mobile and they sent me a new battery but that's my phone. So anyways have you tried to go back to stock?

I don't think it's the battery because I tried a second battery that I have as a backup and the same thing happened. I haven't tried going back to default yet though. Maybe I'll try that.

Try that do exactly as the app says and see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't go back to stock and then re-flash any ROM later.

Is there any rouge apps open and draining CPU?
Sent from my SilverBullet "HTCDesireZ running CM7"
There shouldn't be. I put it back to factory and the same thing is happening. I've about given up on it.
I was having the same problem I fixed it on cyan 7.0.0...3 hours before battery even started to discharge.

[Q] Power Issues

My wife and i both have MT4G phones. While mine works perfectly fine, My wife's is having issues that I can figure out.
First, let's say that she 76% left on her battery, the phone will just power off. But when the phone is restarted, the battery will be at something like 8-20%. Now I thought her battery was bad so I swapped her battery for my battery to see if i needed to buy a new battery.
With her battery in my phone there were no issues with my phone and conversely, her phone with my battery and it does the same thing.
Anyone else have this issue?
she probably has a rougue app. One that's juicing the living **** out of that battery. Look through her apps and see if any of them run while device screen is off. Its probably an app thats syncing constantly.
You can check these by going to settings/about phone/ battery/battery use. There's you'll see the apps that are running and which take alot of juice out of the battery.
You can also reduce sync for anything by going to settings/account and sync. Thee you can change sync intervals or stop anything from syncing at all.

Uninstall suspected apps til you find the culprit also.

This is common with mine, it does it while charging. Its not a rouge app. Cause ive tried it and cannot find any app that is running it unless its shadowed. I dunno but it happen a few times already. I use cm7. Now it can also be related to emmc chip. Kinda curious only a few people have these issuses. Wouldnt it be more wide spread and more people have problems with it, if its an app?

I would say to try and do a factory reset.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
That would happen to me if I wiped battery stats in recovery.
And on some Rome.usually full wipe and reflash solved it.
Haven't wiped battery stats in a long time, and I haven't had that issue since.

phone dies when playing games

randomly when I play little empire, my phone will suddenly die.then when I turn it on it says I have no battery left. sometimes if I reboot it'll say I have around 20 to 30 percent. this happens even after I tried battery calibration (the app and in cwm) and even if I fully charge my phone. I'm on tdjs Kang with stock kernel on darkside gov

I have to comment cause im having the same problems. But instead playing games, mine will just die. It happen now btw, it was on charge all night woke up and seen that there was no charge on the battery, i unpluged it and now it wont charge and my orange led just flashes when i plug it into a charger. In order to get out of it last time i used a walmart charger. Took out the battery pluged it in, took it out over and over and different ways. I was about to bash it. Well then out of the blue it started to charge again and turn on with absolutly no charge but did show it started to charge again. It only happens with cm7, cause thats only what i use the most. So i dunno whats the deal is im tempted to take it to tmobile store and see if they can give me a replacement battery and to see if its the battery itself. So hell i dont know what the heck its doing but i need it for my job cause im a truck driver and i depend on it to get loads and what not. It doesnt power up,doesnt boot into recovery, but does turn on when i hold the volume button and power button in the vibrate unknown mode and orange led flashes. I know i didnt brick it because ive been in this situation before and works after i did the special pattern to get it working again. The pattern is unknown cause it all depends so dont ask it was a euthastic comment. so hell buddy me and you are in the same boat until then

Edit** ok i managed to get it turned on again, pulled battery, sim, sdcard. Put it on charge then waited a few minutes, then put battery in it and then plugged it back in. It worked, im going to try to post a screenshot of the battery usage. I got to let the battery charge up some, so i can put everything back in it. I dunno it may be related to the emmc chip.

How do I finally fix this instant battery drain problem?

i hope some of you have experienced this. i'm on carbon rom right now. sometimes when i'm in the middle of an app, it's just turn off and when i plug it in and turn it on the battery is at 0%. i've done a factory reset.
I have never had that happen before. Does your battery meter move? Like does it say sit at 50% for ages then all of a sudden your phone turns off.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
no, but it does happen around 50% from my experience.

Try out another ROM to see whether the battery drain still happens. If no, then it's the ROM's kernel.
Yeah I would try another rom or hell even stock. Maybe your battery is defective if a new rom doesn't help
