Hi, is possible to have internet connection on this phone via usb or bluetooth? if yes, please give me tutorial please, i dont want useless post here, thx
... i am not a pro but...
Can you provide us some more info...
I mean, you only have to do this if your wifi are not working or you must not use wifi where you live...
The main idea is to get internet to your pc and then to your phone or the opposite.
The way, i think, doesn't mater, usb, bluetooth, wifi.
Anyway, propably your pc dont have wifito make it a "hot spot" so, everyone talks about giving and not getting from phone. I have to say that all these are for rooted phones and usualy for 2.2+ versions.
First of all i have PdaNet and this give internet to your pc from your phone.
Here is what i found:
1.Propably useless
2.Maybe for hot spot
3.Hard but may work(not tested by me)
Good luck...
Not many try this because is a little ... not usefull,
pc<--biger screen
want download apps--->there are other ways from pc.
I think he means the other way around.
...i posted about having internet on your pc and provide connection to your phone... i just mention that PdaNet dont do it, because there are some guys that suggest it...

Hi All,
I have searched the forums but can't find anything on my specific issue. I used to have an XDA Orbit and if I connected it via USB I could use my PC's internet connection. Is there anyway I can do this with my shiny new G1. The reason I’m asking is I have bugger all reception at work and the Wi-Fi is located in another building, which is too far away.
Please help!
Hi,
My above post has been moved here but im not trying to connect my pc to the internet using my phone, im trying to conect my phone to the internet through my PC.
As far as I can see this post does not apply to my question, can somebody please help? I can't be the only one this applies to!
If the computer has wifi and is connected to the internet through wired network it can be done...
Is this your case?
My work PC doesn't have Wi-Fi. My home PC does though.
All I want is for my G1 to be able to use my computers internet conection via USB. My old XDA Orbit used to be able to do it via active sync.
i.e I can surf the web on my phone using USB connection as the access point
Any ideas?
As far as I know this probably will not work, but you can try reversing the port forward technique with ADB

Why would you want to surf the web through the phone when you have a PC on the other end of that wire which does the same thing, but better?

Several reasons that i can think of
1? Bad reception indoors, so i can waste time at work by downloading useless apps on my G1, and everyone thinks im working.
2? My cell provider charges me for internet bandwith usage (per kb/mb), im cheap and don't wanna pay them.
3? I'm a massochist, and enjoy using the G1's browser more than firefox(bleh!)
4? I'm running out of reasons now
All this hypothetically could be hypothetical.
Yup, im bored at work
Exactly, item 1 sums it up. I have no reception at work so if I have a data connection I can get email notifications and test out my apps. I can't believe no one else is missing this feature. On my xda I had it set up to sync with my various email accounts etc. It wouldn,t be a problem if tmobile's reception wasn't so poor!
I would assume it is possible but would have to forward ports from your computer to the phone, similar to how the thetherbot app forwards ports from the phone to the computer. But I may be wrong that could be a one way street for data.
Wow...you are a masochist As much as I like the browser on the g1 compared to other phones..I just don't see why you'd always want to use it instead of a PC
I don't want to surf the web on the G1 when right infront of me I have a PC. I simply want it to have a reliable data connection when I'm at work. As I have no signal from t bloody mobile and no wifi!
Nobody made a sync application similar to MS ActiveSync?
Why would we make something that is already built in?
ohh forget it. Your obviously not reading what i've written.

No you obviously haven't paid attention.
Why would we create something to sync our phone to our computer when it does it all OTA. On top of this how did you expect it to sync our calendar and such when it is all proprietary?
What exactly do you want "sync'd"?
And once again... I am sure you could figure it out if you read up on adb forward commands.

As my first post says I have no reception at work at all, this means I go all day without being able to sync my various email accounts etc. I would also like to be able to demo what our device can do to my collegues. unfortunately i don't understand adb or indeed know what it stands for and as I have no programming knowledge i thought I would speak with people that do.
I will try to figure it out for myself and post my findings here. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it would be useful.
I'm also looking for some solution to use my Laptop's internet connection on my G1 via USB. The reason for this is I have a very weak neighbors wifi and only my Laptop can connect to it. I am writing android apps that need to connect to the internet.

you could set up an adhoc connection on the computer and connect to it on the g1 then bridge the networks
unfortunately my work PC does not have a Wi-Fi card so this wouldn't work. damn it whys it so complicated!?! :-(
You could just buy a router.
hi guyz i downloaded the wmwifi router 1.52 yesterday ....i have an
htc touch(elf)
and i want to do this (pc)internet--->htc touch--->laptop
means i wanna share my pc internet to the laptop throught my ppc....
i tried it in all the way i posibble could but nthing happns.....the connection is successful but the it shows limited connectivity on both pc n laptop while the ppc sayz it cant obtain an ip.....
plz help
thnx in advance
WiFiRouter G1
With the help of a couple of other people I have got this working on my G1 in adhoc mode. It acts as an access point to allow tethering. Laptop --> WiFi-->3G/Edge
This will take advantage of the 3G connection and use the wifi as the local lan.
I DID NOT do all the work on this.
Hope it helps
thnx for replying.....bt tatz nt wat i wanna do..............i want to share my pc internet to the laptop.....
in detail:
connect my ppc via usb to the pc tat has internet thn enabling the usb to wifi option in wmwifi router so it can act as an access point...thn connecting my laptop to it....!!!!
now the thing is my laptop connects bt has no internet..!!!!
THIS FORUM IS AS DEAD AS A COW DUNG for being so huge...!!!!! shissssss
Just get a twisted - pair utp cable, and plug one side in your pc, one in your laptop.
Share the connection of the pocket pc, and your ready to go.
helloo............the idea is to make my ppc a router..!!!!!
Look for how to turn ur PPC as USB wifi
or
Make things simple, get a router/access point.
Enable Internet Connection Sharing in the PC. Google how to share internet in win and u will find it.
I think this is the simplest and the best solution.
Also u might want to have a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377047

You want to what? Why would you need to share the internet on your PC to your laptop? Just get a $30 router from WalMart for that.
If you want to turn your PPC into a router, WMWiFiRouter is what you need. But this lets you connect your laptop to the internet over your phone's DATA CONNECTION!
I have used WiFiRouter for a long time now, it is alright aside from draining the battery beyond anything imaginable and turning my HTC Touch Pro (Alltel) into a toaster over...
I have heard about XDA releasing a Free version of wifi sharing for vga devices like my Alltel HTC Touch Pro... where is the link to this, I googled/searched/went to Engadget/Gizmodo etc and can't seem to find it...
thanks
here is the link to tat free internet sharing utility

I have an htc diamond and have tried most of the things you all talk about but still to no avail, I want to use my diamond as a router for my lap top, i'm not the best w/coms so can someone help me that is patient
I wish you'd ask your friends to help me I cant get it working
does someone please know if we can connect our HD2 to the internet using pc (like we do with winmo), conect usb cable to phone and computer(wich has internet connection) and then go to internet on phone witout any takeing money from phone.
please help if someone knows how
i searched it on forum but didnt find any useful advice
tnx
You have to watch in the developement threads. There are some builds where this feature works. Just have a look.
Would be very useful.
Yes I've been interested in finding this out too as at work I only have USB connectivity not wifi available to me but our work network is blazingly fast and since 3G is soo unreliable for me on Android I'd like to take advantage my work pc's internet connection. It was very handy having this feature on Winmo.
It'd be great if there was an App that did this! If anyone knows of an App or a build can you let us know. Thanks. I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for this feature.
EDIT: did some searching and I found this article about reverse usb tethering on Android, don't know if it will be of any use http://blog.mycila.com/2010/06/reverse-usb-tethering-with-android-22.html
mdeejay 3.3a (desireHD) build has reverse usb tethering built-in. Try it and provide feedback please. (you may need to install htc sync software to pc, I am not sure)
Long story short, I don't have wi-fi nor I want to spend money for it. I tried Connectify/Virtual Router instead, both fail to share internet connection, instead they just emulate a wireless network without internet access. So no, please don't try to give me solutions if they revolve around wi-fi
Anyway, I know there's a way to let your PC connect to internet via your Android phone ( tethering, I suppose ), that's not what I want - I want to share my PC's internet connection to Arc via USB.
Help please ?
you spent 500$ buying a jewel-phone and you're not willing to give 30$ for a router with wi-fi?
~.~
As I said, don't bother with Wi-Fi comments please, why spend 30$ on something I would use maybe once per a week or two ?
Tethering is done insanely easy, why the **** is it so hard getting PC to share its internet connection to your phone ? I mean, come on now -.-"
See if this helps you

Does anyone else not wish that we could get internet on our phones from a computer? It baffles me how no one seems to think that being able to siphon an internet connection from ANY available computer with a wired internet connection is a good idea.
Cant you guys see how useful that would be when a free and good wifi network isn't available?
1. Imagine youre travelling overseas and dont want to pay exorbitant charges for data roaming.
2. Youre in a place with no wifi and you are unwilling/unable to download loads of data over 3g.
3. Or you simply have an unreliable 3g connection.
Come on, this seems as essential to me as regular tethering. Its a feature available on dinosaur winmo phones and lesser htc phones( called internet passthrough). Why is it not on this phone which is so much superior in so many respects?
Please, if you feel the same way or agree with me, show some support here so we can catch the attention of some devs who can actually do something about this.
Cheers
I ususally use connectify me to host a wifi spot on my computer and connect my phone to it.
No can do Devs are all busy working on a search button .

Yeah i know of connectify, but you need to install it on your OWN computer thats running WINDOWS. I would like to 'steal' an internet connection from ANY computer(where i dont have permission to go installing software on).
Omission of this feature by samsung is a massive fail.

Thanks for the links. Well thats a shame, I was hoping to garner some interest.
Excuse my obvious ignorance, but if our phones already have ability to supply internet to computers via a usb cable, how difficult could it be for the reverse?

So to clarify, you'd like to be able to plug your phone into a computer and have the computer automagically be able to supply an internet connection to the phone, without installing any additional software?
And you feel this is a feature which Samsung omitted?
That's simply not going to happen. HTC do it via software, HTC Sync, which must be installed on the PC. Hacky methods also exist to be able to make internet pass-through work on Linux.
But to expect a feature to work by simply plugging a USB cable into any computer without software installed is pretty absurd. If this is important to you, I'd suggest you lobby the operating system vendors.
