ITS DONE
Samsung launches GALAXY NOTE just 3 minutes ago in a conference...watched it live on phone
ITS A WHOLE NEW CATEGORY between smartphones and tablet
1.4 Ghz processor and 5.3 inch sa+ display!:O
Lol unusual size
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRxjo...el_video_title
conference was held in berlin...the IFA!
this is my dream phone. definitely.
I hope the size could a little bit big. I have a big palm.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/01/samsung-galaxy-note-official-5-3-inch-super-amoled-display-s/
sold !
I'm sold on the size and battery !
Now, you early adopters need to find the quirks, I sure hope they aren't bad !
For sale:
G2
Nexus one
Both mint
Woohooo a manufacturer listened !
Will see, overall looks great device! But in my opinion is too big for phone - in comparison with Galaxy S2 - 25 additional mm. in lenth, 17 mm. in width. Stylus is good idea, I'm missing it since I left Windows Mobile
Looks pretty nice. I don't think the size will be an issue, but we'll see. If it performs well I'd consider buying it. I don't really like the idea of a stylus, and I think specifically pitching it towards a business market is not such a great idea. You could easily pitch it to both business and gaming or entertainment spaces given that huge screen.
Wow...

My credit card is itching. Show me where I can buy this when it launches!
As much as I like it,this is too big for me.I am still getting used to my GSII size after the previous 3.7" phone.I love the stylous,it would be great if they sold it seperately for use with other phones.I also would love the 7.7 or the 8.9 tablet with this stylous

I wonder what sort of developer support there will be for this. Quite a few people expressing a strong desire to purchase this.... more people than I imagined would from what I have seen so far, but equally, and as expected there are a fair few who feel that this would be too big for them.
I sit firmly in the "this is the ideal size device for me" camp, and unless the next Nexus is this size, or slightly bigger, then this will be my next device.
Aaaaaannnd I'm returning my galaxy s II for this......
Hmm epic 4g touch? Or this? I love big screens :-D

Disappointing? Smaller battery, no fingerprint sensor and no tegra. The battery cover does look better though. I could go both ways on dedicated camera button. Everything else is kind of meh.

yes, a big dissappointment. seems like a step back, not forward in every way. I thought they would do a Photon 4G equivalent with a bigger screen etc? That looks like a great device and an improvement over our atrix. Seems like the Atrix 2 is slower, smaller battery (one of the best selling points on the atrix IMHO) and doesnt make a generation jump to LTE etc.
it does ave 4.3 inch screen
Im going for a Samsung Note next.
Seems to me the business people overrule the tech/specs people.

I am inclined to believe this is Edison we are talking about, but is it officially the successor ?? Specs are not official yet.

All that will do is make your pocket warmer when you play pocket Android in the winter through heat generated with no active cooling. We don't even utilize 2 cores at the moment, so 4 cores is absolutely useless other than epeen.

You would think motorola would capitalize on webtop and create a market for "lapdocks". Their half assed "try" is pitiful. They could create a flagship phone with a higher clocked dual core and two gigs of ram. Hell, as things are, the other gig of ram could be accessible by webtop only so you double data rate and it doesnt eat battery having to power that ram and not utilizing it. Perhaps with ics and the better spec'd phones coming soon something might happen.
I voided my warranty and your mum.

I second this, main reason I hated my atrix was cause of the screen, if I can get my hands on one, I would swap it out for my atrix instantly.
The Bionic had an "operational" prototype back in Feb but it just got released this month (and looking completely different with different hardware). The same could be said about this. The battery, the processor, the screen, LTE, design, etc. could all be left to change when this phone actually reaches store shelves. But to even think that Motorola goes through the trouble with testing a device that is this lackluster spec-wise, and is supposed to be a successor, leaves me to believe that their marketing structure is based off of disseminating features/hardware across as many devices as possible to maximize profit which is one of the reasons I will not be buying another Moto phone anytime soon.

I agree with everything you said, but is that any different than say HTC and all their "cookie cutter" sequel phones that they crank out with the same battery issues?

Did everyone forget Google bought moto?? I know it was for patenting rights, but I think they will make pure Google phones in the future now. Not all, but atleast some.
I piss excellence
I read an article about a new LG phone coming out soon that looks bad ass! Basically the same as atrix but with the new Tegra, they said 1.2 or 1.5. It also had the slide out kb and 1080P recording which is probably pretty standard with new phones now. Nvidia was also saying that we should start seeing quad core phones by end of 1Q 2012. That would be nice.

The Note is going to be like the dell streak. I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct. They phone/tablet had horrible sales. This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max . I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain.

"The Note is going to be like the dell streak."

"I thought it was way too big to be practical, and my predictions were correct."
-your reasoning for this is incorrect. The streak was marketed extremely badly,
shipped with an very old version of android, and had performance issues.
"They phone/tablet had horrible sales."
-Yes as stated above for different reasons which are not an issue with Samsung Note and as stated they have sold a million Samsung Notes already.
"This seems to be a little smaller but I think 4.6 is max."
-a pattern of you being wrong again and again...
The Samsung Note is 5.3 which is even bigger then the Dell Streak.
"I think 4.3 big enough already but holding a 5+ inch phone in your pocket all day seems like a pain."
-another assumption? It is not a problem to have this phone even in the skinny pants that I wear all the time and I am extremely physically active.
"Galaxy nexus is my next phone the moment it drops on the sprint network"
-another bad choice, most of the world uses GSM and for good reason. If your are going to go with CDMA at least go with Verizon who has acceptable coverage only in the US. AT&T with an unlocked phone is the best choice especially if you are worldly and like to travel.

Galaxy Note is way better than Galaxy Nexus because of the Mali chipset, Nexus chipset is a real deal breaker, in my country Note is already selling like hotcakes where as nexus is loosing its market value.

When i bought my Note, I thought I would use it primarily as a small tablet, and that I would continue to use my HTC Sensation as my regular phone.
I learned very quickly that the size of the Note wasn't an issue, and that when I used my Sensation I just found it felt small and cramped. So, I swapped my primary SIM into the Note, and now use it as a daily driver.
Consequently, I fundamentally disagree with your assertion that the Note is too big, because it really isn't noticable either in the hand, or in the pocket.
Regards,
Dave

I am a Samsung galaxy note owner after having the S2 & the HTC desire HD.
I cannot imagine ever going back to my former devices after using the Note!
It is by far the best phone I have ever had and to be quite honest I thought that the size would be a problem which later on, as I discovered, was not.
It fits in the same pockets as my S2 without any problem...
No comparison can be made hardware wise and surely if someone gets to use it, he won't compare it to any other device in circulation...

Ill wait till the GS4 comes out lol i'm waiting for another keyboard these companies are stupid for making a straight edge touchscreen phones, there okay but their not awesome.
If i were to make a phone i would throw a 2GHz Dual or Quad-core CPU, 400-500MHz GPU, a 5-16MP Camera. (16 in back and 5 in front). CM9 (4.0.3), anywhere from a 4.5 to a 5" screen with a damn Keyboard but make the phone slimmer it will obviously be a bit bulkier than just a touchscreen but slimmer than the Epic 4G.
HAHA Will laugh at this post one day when we do or have better like probably in 2015+

I didn't mean it like that, I meant it as like what's the real benefit to all these phones that are expected to come out. I'm happy with my epic, I don't care about how many cores a phone have and how many Megapixels it's front and back camera have. It works just fine for my standards as well as many other. There's no real world value to a phone a 16mp camera when you can buy a 16mp camera cheaper than your phone.

A valid argument on both sides. But with respect to the camera, the way I see it is the point-and-clicks are going to be extinct in a few years. If your smartphone, of which everyone owns (or will own) one, has a camera that works just as well as a separate point-and-click, why own a point-and-click?

See, I frankly dont give a crap about the hardware specs of the GSIII or whatever my next phone will be. I want a few basic things out of it though:
Ability to play high profile h.264 video in 1080p
MHL port functioning day 1
USB OTG without a need for external power
NFC
Apart from those, pretty much the only other consideration I have is the size and quality of the screen. The CPU/GPU are gonna be adequate no matter what they are from this point on. Having a quad core isn't necessarily gonna offer me anything more than having a quality dual core. The GPU/video decoder is important, but the CPU not that much. I dont care about the camera, especially not the FFC which I have used 1 time. I dont care about a hardware keyboard because I rarely use it anyways.
I probably would rather get a GNote instead (hopefully the GNote 2 will be out by the time my upgrade in June comes up). That 5.3" screen is tempting. Got to play with one yesterday from a friend who put it on AT&T (International version unlocked) and to me it doesn't really feel too big . In fact, browsing web pages is amazing on that thing. Plus I took a pic, wrote and drew on it with the included stylus, and sent it to Facebook.

Got to play with one yesterday from a friend who put it on AT&T (International version unlocked) and to me it doesn't really feel too big . In fact, browsing web pages is amazing on that thing. Plus I took a pic, wrote and drew on it with the included stylus, and sent it to Facebook.

its just a bigger version of the galaxy s2 .. i rather wait and see wat galaxy s3 brings too the table .. and most likely it will get/have jelly bean.. not so sure about that GNote.
My simple explanation would be this: I want it to be what my Epic 4G was compared to my previous phones. I enjoyed my Epic and still am I could hold on to this phone for another year

Am I the only one who's ok with being done with the keyboard especially with the size difference?
No keyboard would be great if barely use mine it just adds bulk.

XDA Members & I9300 Owners:
Here we are... at the end of yet another long statistics and promises-laden tech event. The devices were many; the showstoppers few. Yet here we are... flipping through XDA as usual. What devices caught your eye? What devices surprised you, and what devices did not? Will any of you be jumping ship from the I9300; and if you will, are any of you valued developers? How have the events of the past 24 hours changed your foreseeable future? More importantly, how do you think the past day has changed XDA's foreseeable future? Do you see high-traffic camera threads in XDA's future? Do you see Windows Phone 8's clean build usurping the DIY appeal of Android? What are your thoughts?

P.S. - Keep it development-oriented. No preference superiority battles.... please.

To be honest I dont really think WP8 got what it takes to uproot android. IMO I like androids openness and as u said DYI.
And for me Galaxy note II stole the show, and yeah Ill be jumping ship to that..And knowing how much Note sold, iam sure there will be lots of good devs there as well But I will probably wait a month or two..

I agree with most of that. The Note always attracts attention. However, even with as much of a hit as it was, I don't see myself buying one. I already have an N7000, and I'm not too fond of the switch from 1280x800 to 1280x720 or the lower DPI. The N7000 was already right on the border between visible pixels and retina-size pixels.
On another note, did anybody notice the 7" gaming tablet from Archos? They always make the crappiest stuff. Then, out of nowhere, they announce this kick-ass beast. I'll be getting one of those for sure!

The new Windows Phone device looks much better than SGS3. Why can't Samung design Android phones like that?

They did.....guess what?....they had to change the design because of Apple
That looks like the S1!
Nokia must be panicking now after the specs of the windows phone were released. It's an awesome package. Did you see the back of the device? It's beautiful (the front not so much, as already mentioned). Why the GSIII doesn't have that quality is beyond me. Metal over plastic every time. It's a no brainer. It oozes quality.
In the end though, it's a windows phone. That in itself will mean the development of the device (from here and professional developers) will be limited.
Still love the back though.

I'm probably gonna get the one because HTC got me all excited with the specs. I've always been a Samsung fan but since there's nothing really known about it I'm too hyped up about this phone to change my mind. Lol poor Samsung lost a buyer.

I'm getting it because of the quality of the phone and the huge amount of development this phone will have due to it being release to so many carriers

Haha Im sure you won't be disappointed, especially with the excellent build quality of the HTC One. Also nice Avatar, A Day to Remember is great.
The phone looks simply beautiful. Kinda sad that its not a full 5". Adtr is like my favorite band. Homesick is basically all I play in my truck.

Better try to wait until s4 revealed then compare it and decide...

Samsung will never beat HTC in the design and materials, that's why I stick to HTC, I love how they give us premium devices

Exactly :good:
If you want toys, go for Samsung. If you want solid smartphones, go for HTC
Samsung phones are for sure easier to hack and easy to fix if something goes wrong.

Or you could just wait till march...I mean it isn't that far away and you will then have all the info you need for a decision. That is what I'm doing. Plus I don't usually like to be the early adopter of the first batch of new products...always seems to be some sort of problem that pops up.

saying that i have brought htc desire and htc sensation on launch date and neither has had a problem. But i have heard stories of problems with new phones.
Lets hope htc have done enough testing on this one to make sure they are only little!
Well I probably won't be able to get a phone in march anyways, gotta wait for some other stuff to clear up so I'll have plenty of time to make my decision.

What specs do you want Samsung to announce?
The gap between HTC one X and the S3 was about 2 months.. Its less than a month this time around.
Not sure what you expect from Samsung.
Its almost certainly going to be'
5" , 1080p, 441ppi, 13mp camera, 2600mah battery, 1.9ghz S600 and 2gb ram.
The One looks great and I'm seriously considering getting it.. but I'll wait to see what Samsung has to offer...
Exactly. I read on gsmarena that the s4 will have a full 2.0 GHz processor. Guess we'll just have to see.

thats actually a pretty good point :good:
Odin rocks. It literally takes longer to download it and set it up than it takes to flash a recovery. There's no boot loader to unlock and you don't have to s-off.

Blind loyalty is dangerous. HTC rushed the launch of the One X and had tons of problems with it. The DNA/Butterfly seems to be faring better. An all-metal mobile device with multiple radios/antennas is a risky move. Every manufacturer that tried it before (including Apple) has had wireless issues. Based on that, victory rallies and celebration for both HTC and the One should be held off until after it’s been in people's hands for a few months. HTC’s never had any issues with hyping their devices but sometimes that hype has been ahead of the actual device/functionality. So the One could be a turning point for them (I hope it is) or its forum could light up with issues like the One X's did. It's way too early to call.
As for the SGS4. Samsung has a multi-billion dollar chip business and spends billions on R&D specifically for that division. To launch the SGS4 which should sell upward of 50MM units with a competitors SoC is asinine and that SoC would be used for a year's worth of production. Same thing applies to moving to LCD with their huge investment in AMOLED. For them to launch a "me too" device that mirrors the One and XZ would be marketing suicide and they know that. Most of the rumors everyone's picking up originated with Samfirmware which is hardly a reliable source based on their track record. If I was betting, I'd go with the SGS4 having a Samsung SoC and SAMOLED display in addition to other new features not on competitive phones. We'll see in three weeks.
yea i think we need to remind those defect figures were only in the first three months or so after a couple of month build quality picked up immensly
but BarryH is right, early adopters oftern burn
that being said, i think HTC experimented with the DNA/Butterfly well enough to prepare for this launch
this leaves the metal casing, i don't think anything can go awfully wrong just dont hug it and expect signal
There is one big difference to the One X launch
the One X was HTC's first polycarbonate unibody, in metal they are experts, and the One X was really rushed even shipped with freaky unfinished software, the HTC One seems to have been cooking for quiet a while and they are already pretty experienced with those chipsets
So many freaking amazing things about these phones. The decision is becoming waay tough.
