foolishly I entered contact data other than: first, last, phone
The DX froyo contact export inconveniently ignores most of the fields with data. I have not found an app capable of exporting. nandroid while a backup is not an export and I have not rooted the froyo. hopefully the root gingerbread ota.602 claim is legit.
ideas?
caveats: I have not added a gmail account to my phone nor do I plan to. I use funambol for contact backup as I have given up on verizons backup service: it has quadrupled my local contacts. I haven't the foggiest how to extract a file from funambol; it appears one cannot.

One of the biggest time wasters I have when I'm updating my rom to the newest version is going through all my contacts and linking my Gmail contacts with my Facebook ones. Is there a way to restore contacts with fb contacts already merged on nexusone and evo builds. Anyone? Because Google maybe restore 2 but I have to manually do the rest and delete the rest of the fb contacts! Please help someone
Anybody????
I've read about someone first doing a contacts backup to sdcard and then using that backup to restore the contacts on the new build without sync. I don't worry about it since I don't use FB but hope that helps you
thankyou, can u recommend a contact back-up app that back up fb links as well cause some dont
Hi.
Try this:
In winmo link all your fb contacts. After that you will need
Pim Backup (link: h**p://rapidshare.com/files/191036103/PPCPimBackup2.8__run_from_phone_.exe), a computer with internet access and a Gmail account.
1. Open PIM Backup on your Windows Mobile device. Select the Backup action and unselect everything but contacts, then hit Next.
2. At the "Select backup filename and folder" screen, unselect the "compress backup" and "binary backup" options, then hit Next.
3. Transfer the BACKUP.PIB file that you just made from your phone to your computer. Change the extension from .PIB to .RAR, then extract the file.
4. The extracted file should be BACKUP.CSC. Simply change the extension to .CSV and import the file to your gmail account. All your contacts can now be imported to your phone through gmail - just follow the instructions given in the phone's contact menu.
I did it this way, and my google account has saved the fb links, so when I change builds, after I set up my google account, it syncs the contacts with their fb links.

that is how i originally did it but something in nexusone Google or maybe the native contact manager is braking the Links some how, wat will we do when nand get here, can't just boot to Windows to fix this, there must be other options............
Sorry, like I said I don't use facebook. I remember the guy stating he used the export option on the android contacts app. I'll try it on my gf's phone and report back.

i just use pim back up and it always work perfectly, i did read about people using microsoft my phone but never tried it as pim does the job for me.
I've been flashing and enjoying all the different roms. I backed up my phone from a few days ago via clockwork recovery and one version has all of the contacts that I need, but when I restore the data after a new flash, not only do I get the contacts I want, but also other things that I don't want to restore.
So for now, I just want to bring over the contacts file that I backed up, and none of the other data. I tried google sync but it only brings over the email addresses, but not the phone numbers of my contact. I tried Titanium Backup, but it did the same thing. I tried Android Backup app, but it won't restore what I backed up.
Where can I find the specific contacts file and what is the best way to back it up and restore it?
This isn't a direct answer to your question however the simplest and most foolproof way is to go into contacts and export the list. You can take that file and import it into your gmail contacts (the option is there). After that you can move the email addresses to another folder within your gmail contacts. (They'll still be just as easily accessed when emailing) After that when you do gmail sync it will always bring back just the phone numbers. Then it's as easy and adding that acccount within your rom. Hope this helps....

worked! Thanks so much.
I have rooted my Droid X and installed Titanium Backup. I want to do a backup but am concerned with including the contact and calendar data. Since I am on an Exchange account and Gmail, I don't need to back up the actual data files. What are the names of the data files for contacts and calendar? There are several "Contacts...." and "Calendar..." files. One says storage, another data, which one do I exclude?

i have found if i restore ANY data i have the syncing symbol on my notifications bar all the time, i do the batch Restore all missing apps and click app only from now on
If you have them syncd to your Gmail account, they are ALWAYS backed up. Menu, Settings, Accounts & Sync, check the "Contacts" check box and all of your contacts sync to Gmail.
I do understand that the are essentially backed up via sync with Gmail and/or corp exchange. That is why I don't want to backup that data with Titanium Backup. When I open Titanium Backup, I do the following.
Select Backup/Restore tab
Select Menu>Batch
Select Run Backup all system data
When I scroll down, I see the following Contacts files
Contacts 2.2.1
Contacts Storage 2.2.1
Contacts Sync 2.2.1
Contacts Sync Adapter 2.2.1
ContactsData 2.2.1
ContactsUnconnected 2.2.1
Which of those files should I deselect so if I need to do a restore I don't receive duplicate contacts?

This has been fixed in the newer versions. (At least in my experience) the last restore I did with TiB I restored EVERYTHING and do not have the sync symbol stuck there anymore. This used to happen to me also but not as of late with the newer updates of Ti.

I have gotten a replacement DroidX and this has happened to others as well. While other I had did not have this phenomenon. But after I reestablished root and installed Titanium Backup, i notice "ContactsUnconnected 2.2.1" is frozen. I unfreeze it, reboot, and it is frozen again. And I never froze it to begin with. And my previous DroidX did not have it frozen do I have yet another possessed DX? With a mind of it's own? Wanting to be a real Android (boy)?" (bad Pinochio" reference). What exactly DOES "ContactsUnconnected" do? Is it still an unknown variable as it has been since day one?
Many thanks in advance. (Please ignore my phone info on my profile if it still says WinMo. As I have not had a chance to update my info yet)
Hi,
I did a backup from nandroid before to upgrade to a other ROM. Could we just restore contacts from one of nandroid backup?
If so, which part of the backup should i restore? There are boot,system,data,cache,sd-ext.
Thanks
No, i really don't think there's such app. Just no point to creat it. Spend 20mins and you'll get your stuff back. Backup current ROM -> restore old one -> backup contacts -> restore just created ROM back up.

Arf, my backup didn't include contacts. I may have done it after downgrading from 1.72 to 1.34 :S
Anyway, i did your solution I went back to RUU, transfer data from my old phone, export contacts to SD. Back to GV1.5 and import contacts from SD.
Could we save contacts from Titanium backup free, because the contacts/call...cts storage 2.3.2 seems to store only call log...
Your phone should automatically backup and restore contacts from whatever google account you have or setup on your phone. There's no need to have a contact backup utility on this OS. If you don't have a data plan then use wifi to do it.
Not everyone wants to sync with google

Well that's understandable.
There should be an option when you're looking at you contacts to export them to the sdcard. Just pull up the menu and click 'import/export' then export to sdcard. When you restore your phone do the same thing except import from the sdcard. Not sure why 2.3 only exported your call log though, maybe you have to switch the contacts to phone storage o something.
I have synced with google and got many more contacts that are not supposed to be there or the same contact in triple...
How i can delete all contact and try again? Delete one by one is quite annoying
EDIT: I'm on Gingervillain 1.5
Hi,
My phone has been slow for a while. I would like to back-up all my data on the phone (contacts, pictures/videos, apps, etc.). Then I want to proceed to doing a complete reset of the phone. I want to then restore the necessary items from my back-up. Eventually, I'd like to 'root' my phone so I can have more power and more capabilities in my phone and make most of its potential as it heads into the twilight of its existence.
I need assistance on how I can do the aforementioned things.
Thanks
Contacts: Google account syncs it to Gmail. Else use the "export to sdcard" option inside contacts app. A .vcf file will be created on your sdcard. You can store that elsewhere.
Sms: sms backup and restore by ritesh sahu(play store)
Whatever stuff that you have on your sdcard will remain so unless you specifically format it. Else you can even copy them to your pc.
Rooting: to root your phone first you have to downgrade to froyo then root it permanently after which you can install any gb/ics rom you like. Follow the ''minus" link in my signature below and download the guide.
