I could never Drop my G1. The only reason I'm getting a new phone is because I'm getting a massive deal on a MT4Gs. I'm probally going to just Keep my G1 in Airplane mood, load up FBL, and play emulators on it. :3

Makes a great backup phone (convert to t-mobile prepaid and charge it up for $100 for 1000 minutes which doesn't expire for a year), then load ebook reader apps on it from the market and use it as an ebook (epub, whatever) reader (Aldiko & Foliant).
Also, rooted and using wireless tether apps it becomes a backup internet connection for a computer.

My G2 woke me up today. I checked my email and have sent several dozen texts, fielded one 20 minute phone call, and put some nice new live wallpapers on for when I'm trying to force the last few bits of juice out in a hurry for battery calibration. Yesterday I used it for nav.

I am trying to use wifi tether from my epic 4g to the touchpad but the touchpad does not see the connection. (my ipod touch and PC see it). Anyone knows what's the problem? I heard it might something to do with some ad hoc stuff...

Yes use that version of wifi tether. I had mine running last night from my EVO 3d. I just chose epic 4g under settings and for the device profile. Seemed to work fine. Touchpad is nice, I am just itching to put some version of Android on it. Even with a media player app that says it supports avi and other files, I can't seem to get videos other than mp4 format to play on it.

Opps I replied in the wrong thread lol. Well I am hoping HP has some touchpads soon. Would love to put Android on it but I am sure it will look kind of weird in a 4x3 screen.
I am also one of the lucky ones who scored a 32GB touchpad on the firesale. What I would really like to see is the SMS/call integration with the touchpad. Anyone know what kinds of protocols the pre3 and touchpad use for SMS/call integration? I am guessing that it can all be done through bluetooth? I have done ROM and theming stuff, and have mild experience with C++, but this kind of project is a bit out of my league.
Well, the CM7 team has made a lot of progress getting it onto the TouchPad already. Here's a video from android police showing it booting into CM7. It's super quick too!
Lots of quirks to work through still. The guy said that the touchscreen input isn't working yet.

As for those still looking, HP is supposed to have more coming in sometime this week. Apparently there will be a limit of 1 per customer so they shouldn't sell out instantly like last time, but if you aren't on the page within an hour or two of it going live they will probably be gone.

Hi to all the Iconia Users,
Guys, I am thinking about buying the A500, but I have been put off a little by comments about the unit being laggy and non-responsive.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and love it. It does everything I ever ask and does it without a moments hesitation. I also went out and bought a Samsung Tab 7inch, but have found it to be very laggy and Samsung are hopeless at supporting their devices with upgrades. I don't want to make the same mistake again. Do you guys find the A500 slow and unresponsive? Especially with web browsing and emails? I would use the device for mainly browsing, powerpoint, reading pdfs, and maybe remote access to the work computer. Do you think the A500 can cut it?? Thanks for your replys.....
I have a EVO 3d and the a500 and I don't think the tab is laggy when its in portrait with the ffc is on the left side. But any other orientation it can be a little slow to respond. But I only noticed that on the home screen.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
I had some lag on the home screen etc.. but that was down to a stupidly hungry live background.. fixed with a static wallpaper..
I have noticed some noticeable lag with the stock browser, my initial switch to MXBrowser seemed to fix it but this is now also giving some lag.. but this is down to the browser not the dev itself
Install only quality apps that do not keep running in background and it will run fine. I would buy this again.

I experienced this same issue and fixed with a static image as well. other than that it performs splendidly.
Even a Core i7 computer lags if you don't maintain it. This thing has the same cpu and ram as 5 other devices in the market with the same spec that cost more.
Use a custom rom that have stock apps remove because those tend to slow things down. Personally I use a background composed of a black image 1x1 pixel. There are people who said you don't need Task Killer but my experience digress.
Thanks guys!
It looks like I might soon be an A500 Acerian.

No. I actually have a SIM with unlimited data laying around (for which I pay the fee and don't use) but i still choose the wifi version. There is even a kernel which enables USB tethering but wifi tethering works out of the box with my Desire HD (infrastructure mode but I suppose SGS2 uses that too, for ad-hoc you'll have to change some files). I'm on vacation right now and for two weeks I have my phone on the charger next to the window (wifi tethering is really power hungry) and I'm down by the pool with the Acer.

Well the picture is taken from the window I had my DHD near so I'd guess about 30 meters or something like that. Also you should know that the DHD is not known for it's best wifi performance. All alluminum phones suffer from that and it's inevitable. The connection was weak (1 bar) but stable, which is much more impotrant as the 3G network speed is not that great either. All in all I'm pretty pleased with its performance (I honestly did not expect it to work anyway)

Once I clocked it up to 1.6ghz I played with it for another 30 minutes , and I can say it played better at that point (was playing at 1.4 before). Although there still were noticeable framerate drops alot of the time, but it was alot better than getting 10 frames a second 70% of the time.
At 1.4 there were times that the sound would keep cutting in and out, and I probably got 1-2 fps. Most of the time it was when I hit other cars or started speeding as fast as I could. (thats what GTA is about tho right? xD)
Keep in mind too I was on Sense so that may make the experience different from AOSP users.
So, I bought the game when they first launched but never downloaded it, when I tried to download it my device wasnt supported anymore lol so I had to google it up and found version 1.1 apk and I had the issues like the ones described in this post already.
Luckly enough a couple days ago the apk got updated to 1.2 and all I can say is that is very playable if you are in my situation you just need to download the apk (google it) I had installed the SD files already ( the ones for adreno gpu) because I actually bought it.
But if you want to try it you can get the sd files too from the black internet market :0
Im running Supreme sense, dodge kernet at 1.6 on demand, I bet the version 1.2 runs way better on a AOSP room plus you can use an external controller, but still I'm already progresing thru the game almost to the second part of it.

Yeah, I have it on the A100 too, its runs like a beast, I can't say for my shift though, since I'm waiting on a replacement. On my A100 though, the buttons don't quite scale right, making movement a little wierd other than that, fine though. Someone on AOSP (a mostly clean, not bloated AOSP) should try it and see how it plays.

Have you tried alternate ROMs? If not, I'd recommend Paranoid Android. It's smooth, fast, stable, and it allows you to choose between phone, phablet, and tablet mode for every app.

If PA isn't your style, try Slimbean or Cyanogenmod 10.
There are a lot of ROMs out there to mess around with.
