Newb here (sorry), but after installing the Honeyvillian 1.1 rom, after reboot, the screen is backwards (flipped) and if/when I attempt to rotate the screen, the screen is corrupt..
Attempting to recover saved backup, but clicking on things are rough due to being backwards (opposite side of screen...??) Images below:
Any thoughts?
Thank You!
This happened to me on stock ROM with a non stock kernel. Make sure you are using the correct kernel version for the ROM.

a dyslexic iconia....how about that?
Thanks! As stated, I'm new to the Android world (Windows guy for ages) and am trying to learn this as quickly as possible and understand this new universe. I get now that I install the ROM first, followed by the kernel.
My confusion was that there are two diff kernal's for Honeyvillian 1.1 (2.5 / 3.2).
I have now installed Honeyvillian 1.1, rebooted, it's there and working! (Progress!)
Now, I'm updating the 2.5 kernal (finishing now and rebooting)...
But now my screen is not flipped, but corrupted at times and no wifi....
Do I now update to 3.2 kernal for Honeyvillian 1.1 which fixes the two?
What am I missing on my reading on doing this?
Honeyvillian 1.1 is based on Honeycom 3.2, so you must use the kernels which are made for HC 3.2 such as richardtrip's one (Ver.3.0) or thor's one (ver.2.0).

EDIT: Have now wiped using the autouninstaller for voodoo and all is well an good in the world. Im gonna revert to a pre voodoo kernal for the time being till 2.2 comes out. Learn from my mistakes ppl. dont use a nonvoodoo kernal on top of a voodoo kernal
I just picked up my Acer a500 the day before and am very pleased with the purchase. I rooted it within the first hour of unboxing which was a breeze but I cant find a good How To in reguards to installing CWM and a Rom.
I have had a DX since july of last year and have rooted it and installed dozens of roms, currently running CM4DX GB. But there was much more dev support for the phone than I can find for the Acer Tab so it's a bit intimidating. I'm currently on rooted 3.1
I was looking at lightspeed Rom and Richardtrips OC kernel, or perhaps Dexters Transformer Rom with richardtrips OC Kernel. Thing is i have no idea how to flash either of these, I've been reading non stop and i find myself mroe confused now than before i started researching lol.
Any help or a lead int he right direction would be great.

Tried most roms and kernals and the best for me is stock 3.1 If you like to hack and fixs problems go for it. Just read and do a full backup using cwm (clockworkmod). Download Acer recovery from the market, as it has thors backup stuff. With in you can do a full backup of your rom and install other roms its the tool to have. Have fun.

Thanks for the tip, while researching I have found most people say 3.1 is where it's at and seeing as how 3.2 is rolling out in certain places today I am not planning on upgrading until a root method is achieved on 3.2.
Can I say use stock 3.1 and richardtrips OC kernel? I also want to remove the fluff that came on it, would using Root Explorer to rename the unwanted apk's in system/app a good method or are there better options?
Install Acer recovery installer.Do a complete backup.store it in two or 3 different locations.
Any changes at all you make WILL Stop all future updates.so you will need to revert back in the future maybe
Good luck
I've been waiting to receive my replacement Iconia before doing any hardcore modding and I got it yesterday "shiny XD". I was originally going to install the rooted 3.2 update with richardtrips kernel but have decided I want to hang back on 3.1 for a while longer and enjoy it until 3.2 gets a proper root method.
Which kernel would work fine with rooted stock 3.1? I prefer Richardtrips kernel but will use thors if it's the better option I just need to know which version runs on stock 3.1
Also do I have to wipe data and cache when flashing a kernel? This will be a first as my DX has the locked bootloader so i never got to flash a kernel.
I'm using richardtrip's kernel 2.5 with stock 3.1 ROM, and it's working fine with no issues.

Thanks for the reply .
2.5 some issues.
I was using richardtrip 2.5 kernel, and had some issues but nothing to worry about. If you use HDMI it wont restore when screen goes off. But it's just a matter of unpluging and repluging again the microhdmi.
As far as i know he haven't done an update to the 3.1 kernels, so must assume he is now focus on 3.2 kernels.
thanks for the tip, I flashed the 2.5 kernel and all is well.
I'm using honeyvillan. It has a 3.2 kernel

are there any ROMs for A501 ?
the stock is horrible specially after updating to 3.2 which is an Ad oriented version.
Sent from my A501 using XDA App
The ads are probably from your wireless provider. 3.2 on the wifi version doesn't have ads.
yup tabonay for example

Honeyvillain (honeycomb 3.2), Lightspeed, is another. But with lightspeed, you have to run a patch for your internal 3g.
If you want something a little less "cooked" Harkon 1.0, with Thor 3.9R3 kernel. It's what I run.
You can get the kernel at www.tegraowners.com
Basically you want a rom based on the 501, which unfortunately is not as popular as the 500. Reason being, the 500 is cheaper, and was introduced before the 501, so there were more roms produced based on it.
I downgraded to 3.1, rooted 1.3 & flashed CWM. Then I ran CWM & wiped everything so I booted fresh but with A500 ROM, probably cause the downgrade image is for A500. So now my 3G is not recognized.
What is a good A501 ROM with workable 3G ?
Look at the above post....
If you run an A500 based rom, more than likely the build.prop is modified for WiFi-only. If you feel gutsy, you can try and modify it, but will depend on if they modified the Framework or other sys apk's.
Stay with the A501 based roms. A lot of these, are based on the A500, which you DO NOT need.
Taboonay, Honeyvillain(honeybread) (or whatever it's called now, as he seems to be fixed on Honey), Harkon, and Lightspeed (although you may need the patch to run it.
Always get the "rooted" version of any rom.
If you look at my previous post, you can run Harkon, which is a rooted HC 3.2 with a cooked kernel. And after flashing and starting, you can reboot and run Thors 3.9R3 kernel. Do a wipe on your delvik before flashing kernels.
I flashed Honeyvillain & now stuck at boot with 'acer' logo

Let it run for awhile (15 minutes)
If it doesn't boot. then go into Recovery.
Do your 3 wipes, User Data partition
then Cache partition
then goto advanced, and wipe delvik
Then, make sure you selected to "install from SD" a "rom", and not the "kernel", Im betting you downloaded and just flashed the Kernel.
People do this at first with the Honey. He has 2 or 3 listed. Roms and Kernels. So you have to download the ROM and not the kernel.
Suggest you first try with the Harkon Rom.

True. I downloaded the kernel indeed. Seems a common mistake. Now I am dowloading Harkon. Very slow link but will see at the end.

Glad it's working for you
Harkon itself is not a fully cooked rom, although it comes with a cooked kernel. You can overclock the processor using the included app. cpumaster I think is the name. Just remember to run it at different speeds and compare speed vs battery life. Usually you're ok at 1.4 but things might get a little wonky when you run higher. Depends on the processor. Mine is fine at 1.5.
i dont want to have my hand held every step of the way so i will try to outline what i believe i need to do and hopefully someone can confirm and correct me.
here goes....
first use this method, apparently method 2 better, to downgrade...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227
i then need to follow a process to either root it and leave it as 3.0.1 but rooted or install a custom rom that is rooted? if i need to install custom rom due to that instability mentioned in method 2 i could just put a stock but rooted 3.2 i believe. is there a list of rooted 3.2 roms that i can just install without playing around with kernels or whatever? which is the best currently?
thanks guys and please be gentle
I used the downgrade to 3.0.1, root that, install cwm by thor, then for now flashed Taboonay.
I too am looking for a Rom that fits me right. I'll report back if I find it.
<warning>**** I Void Warranties ****</warning>
cheers mate. idecided to use method 1 and it went without a hiccup. i then rooted.
for now i will leave it with stock 3.0.1 rooted as i am sure ice cream sandwich will be out in a short period and then i will look to put a rooted version of that on when it is known to be stable and someone has a good tutorial on it.
thanks for all the work that goes into the development of this great OS.
one of the reasons i wanted to root is to increase cpu speed.
when i just installed setcpu it wont allow me to go over 1000mhz which i presume is to do with the stock rom.
any suggestions? does this mean i will HAVE to install a custom rom, if so is there a list or any roms that are definitely better than others? if so, i guess there will be different procedures to install depending on the rom,?.
Not necessarily a custom rom, but a custom kernel. Some roms include kernels, some dont. Any you can install kernel wthout rom if you want.
I used method 2 and downgraded to 3.0.1. This version is very unstable as I got a force close message every 5-10 seconds. I immediately rooted using iconia root. (Iconia root and the rom that I was going to flash were already on my sd card prior to going through the process) Kekinash has a rooted stock rom here in the development section if that's what you want. I downloaded it, but I have not flashed it yet because I am happy with Thor's current 13.2 rom. There is a link to Thor's website in the general section. I won't post it here because of xda rules. I can't speak for any other roms in this section because I only ran rooted stock before the 3.2 update.
Lightspeed Rom is pretty snappy
cheers guys, went with honeyvillain.
only probs: first it says to insert a sim card, as i have a a500 it doesnt use a sim card, this is probably why 2 force closes come up straight away for system updater possibly?
second, the market kept saying there was an error. i uninstalled the market and found the latest market apk and all is fine so far running 1400mhz.
