GREAT NEWS for all Motorola Milestone 2 A953 users!
Motorola Europe announced today (31 Augusut) that Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread upgrade will be available early Q4 of 2011!
Lets Celebrate!
I wonder how long a comment will last in there if I say something like "I'm already running 2.3.4 on mine and cant wait for some minor issues with CM7 to upgrade"
In the Official Forum:
"We can confirm that we expect the Android 2.3 upgrade for Milestone 2 users in Europe to begin rolling out in early Q4. More details on timing for each country will be shared closer to availability.
For LatAm users I don't have a similar confirmation at this time, however I will post additional information when I receive it.

For sure!!
I´m not a dev, but I´m a good test-user!!!
I bet there will be new problems to get root, to make backups, to flash CWM recovery... mmm... do not want to get back to stock
Perhaps, the official firmware might be useful to extract new kernel and hardware lib files and implement them into CM7/MIUI

I postet before the annoucement that I'm running CM7 since Moto isn't (wasn't) able to give us Gingerbread. They didn't delete it. I think the employes of Moto can understand the angry buyers of the Ms2.

if i remember correctyl, Moto made the statement that all future Releases will include the ability to unlock the bootloader. I think everything will be much easier by then.
The announcement started all new phones, not upgraded old phones. Has the Droid 2 been unlocked, as it upgrade is out?

No, it is for all phones running girgerbread, upgraded or not.
See the Atrix 4G, it is unlocked with a GB leak SBF. The phone is shipped with froyo installed.

Great News, but it seems that it won't be rolled out here in Argentina, at least not with Movistar.

I wouldn't be so sure, a tweet from Personal confirmed me that they were working on 2.3 (no dates given) and since Movistar already has a newer firmware (you are on version 2.2.2 and Personal is on 2.2) I think that if it comes it will come for all.
Just hoping...

But if they release it in Europe, wouldn't that mean that we (I mean you guys, you're the experts) can port it someway so we can still use it? I dont believe Personal is on a hurry for giving us 2.3 that fast.
In the Facebook fan page I found a post from the people who maintain it saying that they expect the release for late september / early october. That's within this month.

My Xoom is stock and I was not part of the Motorola testing group.
Interesting.. makes me want to revert back to complete stock and get the OTA.
Yep. It's ICS.

Ugh, pic isn't showing up on Xoom browser. Which ROM version did you have? US, or international, or other?

Stock US ROM, whatever the latest Honeycomb version was. Absolutely pure stock; no rooting or unlocking or anything. Just the updates that had been previously accepted from Motorola.
Well, seems like you're one of the first on XDA to get it. Browsing other threads and I see no mentions of OtA pushes.
Still going to flash back to 3.0 and see where it takes me!
mine came OTA about an hour ago. Also pure stock USA WiFi ROM

I believe that the update will only be pushed out to GED (Google Experience Device) Xooms, thus precluding UK Xooms to the update. You could try using the Motorola GED fastboot images to "restore" the GED firmware, and then waiting for the OTA. At that point, though, I'd wonder why you wouldn't simply just want to install one of the custom ROMs I mention in my XDA portal or BriefMobile posts.

Indeed. I'm starting to find the approach to OTA updates by Google a bit hap-hazard quite frankly. It's the same with my Galaxy Nexus. Some people I know who have purchased the phone recently have 4.0.2 on their GSM phone. I can't even get the OTA for it!
I've never stayed stock on any devices but as these devices get crisper I've tended to look at staying stock.
The only reason for me not to currently is the piss-poor way in which OTAs are managed. This Xoom update might just be another example.

This is Nvidia's fault, as far as I can remember. That said, it still works perfectly, and should not cause any issues for now.

I am looking forward to the update, but isn't 4.2.1 buggy compared to 4.2.2? I haven't used either, but should ASUS just have waited and released 4.2.2?

My guess is that if 4.2.2 just came out for nexus devices not long ago ASUS may not have it for a while. If I remember correctly from my wife's Nexus 7 4.2 was buggy as hell, 4.2.1 was a vast improvement. I can't recall what 4.2.2 improves upon, but we didn't notice much change after I got her tablet upgraded last night.
Thanks for sharing

Those of you that have received the update, are you just checking for update in the about section on the tablet? I just updated mine to the last OTA, hadn't done that yet, and was going to try to update through the system updates but it tells me I'm up to date.
As of now, I'm not rooted and have stock recovery, bootloader is unlocked though.

I think unofficial will be out sooner 1-2 week/s.
edit: It looks like they're throwing away the bloatware, that could mean that we will get M very soon.
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/108264
I think we will get it sooner than we got 5.0.2, the device has a little more than 1 year, and Motorola has been planning to take us directly to 6.0 for a while, thats why we didn´t get 5.1.1. It wouldn't make sense to buiId a new rom and 2 or 3 months later do it again.
Generally, Motorola devices will probably get the update sooner than before because there are some features that they will not implant like they said on official site.
I also think that Moto g 2014 will be one of the first to get the update, since Moto G 2015 and new Moto X's already have 5.1.1 out of the box, so they can wait a little bit more.
What is happening is exactly like Moto G 2013:
-they got the 5.1.1 earlier straight from KK, but they won't get 6.0;
-we will get 6.0 earlier straight from 5.0.2 but will not get further updates, at least more than 6.0.x or so.
Anyway, if it comes before December it would be awesome, but we must keep waiting, at least for the official rom.

Also, I've seen this article http://www.androidstandard.com/android-m-for-moto-g-features-and-release-date/ saying this:

Moto G 2nd Gen Google play editions will also receive the Android 6.0 update in October or November. For me and Bell Mobility in Canada.. They haven't released a single update since they launched the phone (not even a stagefright update) so I have ZERO confidence that I'll be seeing Marshmallow through any OTA's.

so a carrier locked phone according to this screenshot will get the update on May 31... well, they say the update will come for unbranded devices first and then later to carrier locked phones, so the unbranded idols should get the update days or weeks before this date
or alcatel follows its way and at first releases updates on carrier locked devices and months later for unbranded ones

I just got my 6045I global unlocked from Amazon to replace my stolen 60450(Cricket) a week ago, and it came with pre-marshmallow firmware and latest security update already installed.... I know this because the first one was old stock and arrived with the seal broken,so I asked for replacement and was told I could use old one until new arrived. The first downloaded the updates(came from Amazon fulfillment Kentucky), and the second came from Los Angeles (fresh from port,I assume), and had those 2 updates already installed, and judging from IMEI's, the 2nd was NEW, so make of that what you will. Everything I've heard points to end of May/early June. I am hoping for sooner, as the lack of ad blocking, and hopefully much improved memory management is killing me! We shall see.

Came here to see what everyone else thinks of the update, but no one else seems to be talking about it. Did anyone else get updated?
For reference, I'm using a FRD-L04 on AT&T in the USA. I'm currently on build FRD-L04C567B360. I'm not rooted or anything, just got the phone a month ago.
I didn't do anything to get the update, (not even manually running the updater) just got a notification that the software update was available.
It's been fantastic so far. I felt that EMUI 4 was slick and quick but this feels even faster and smoother. Very happy so far but it's only been a few hours. (went to bed shortly after upgrading)

Can you post a screenshot on the about info? Just to make sure some rumors are true that some people will get the update earlier for the L04 model.
Screenshot added to OG post.
Interesting, they must have just started rolling it out despite the February release rumors.
Hmm.. I haven't received it yet. Were you rooted? Were you on the B162 firmware before?

OP said he isn't rooted and got the phone a month ago. But I did hear rumors that some L04 variants would get nougat a couple weeks in advance so I don't really expect to get nougat until a couple of weeks into February.
Also OP does the stock messaging app support quick reply implemented from nougat?
In Poland some people get official OTA for L09 model, so they start updating our phone earlier

Message app pops up in apps and you can reply. Unfortunately it doesn't work on the lock screen.

I was also able to get the EMUI5/Nougat upgrade through HiCare under the "early adopter" section. I'm in Finland and have L19 (the 64GB dual-SIM version).
Based on what I read, the early adopter program is not a beta program, but just the first bunch to receive the official upgrade?
Haven't installed the upgrade yet, have to first backup and charge the phone.

I would say it's more like release candidate. Under the early adopter section I have a comment that "some of the updates doesn't have official status and could be still not stable". Anyway, enjoy. It brings this much needed UI refresh
Where can I find the early adopter section in the hicare app?
after the update the screen off and lock is not working anymore, if you lock with the app you must enter password to unlock
in the app it's under Service, Os update and early adopters, make sure you have the latest version of Hicare from the Playstore also,.
Hej everyone...
Same happened to me today morning...i've got notification then OTA update is ready to download...
I'm in Sweden, not rooted, locked bootloader...
Thanks, that's what I thought. Of course it's useless to have an early adopter program if you are forced to release the same version to the others anyway. You have to have an option to fix bugs if major showstoppers arise.
Did the upgrade, everything went smoothly.
I was pleasantly surprised that the upgrade still has Huawei Swype keyboard as an option in addition to Swiftkey. I use Swype on all my mobile devices, now I don't have to install it separately.

Hi guys, I got the 360 update this morning.
Its not the official N update im on the beta N uk program.
I was intouch with honor UK early this week and he said that we would get another beta update before the official N release.
As you can see from the screen shots this update was only nearly 500mb.
I'm not sure if they are doing different things in different countries but this is what's happening in the UK

Yes I get that but I spoke to a Honor rep on Google + on Monday and he said that we was getting one more update on the beta before the Official N release in Feb.
I think that they must be doing very different things in different countries
