Thinking about getting the Atrix or bionic. I wanted to see how pleased people are with the dock? My plan is to use it as my work laptop. Most if my work is browser based, so my first concern is how does the browser compare to a laptop browser. I do know that it is based on firefox, but is it a full browser? Second is how do people handle printing. Thanks in advance.

Curious, why do you hate the atrix?
meh ...
If you can find the dock for $100 +/- I'd say give it a try. More than that, I'd recommend skipping it.
...I have the Atrix and love it
...I also got the dock for $340 and regret it.
When docked the response is very laggy and the touchpad is especially sluggish. The firefox experience is prone to pauses and stutters as well. I haven't tried any of the hacks to see if it improves the experience.
Oh ... and AT&T requires a tethering plan to use the dock via 3G.
---Rob
if you are rooted and running GB then you can use the lapdock without tethering pan like I do. I don't print from it so I can't say for sure about that. Lapdock is very thin and convenient and charges the phone while you are surfing. I use a small USB mouse (keychain) and leave the mini dongle in the USB port all the time. Works better than hotspot and laptop imho. You can also receive and send sms with the keyboard as well. I take Bluetooth calls while surfing and use apps like Netflix.....to me it's great. Not sure if you can print from USB mass storage though.

The touchpad can be adjusted in the settings so that it's not so slow..but otherwise invest in a Bluetooth mouse and you'll be good to go. I find the browsing to be very good actually..and considering most of the time I use it on 3g rather than wifi..it's still very fast (i've used sub $500 netbooks..and the browsing experience absolutely blows on them..unless you're used to Blackberry browsers )
I picked up an external hard drive and formated it to FAT32 and it works great..but I haven't tried a printer yet. I've got a e-printer that I use so no need for usb cables anymore anyways
The only time I really have noticed any lagginess is when i'm playing an emulator game full screen using my ps3 controller.
I think Atrix with Lapdock is really good. It can instead my pc to work with office software.
u can use openoffice for your daily office work.PPT/Word/Excel and so on.
i can plugin to the lapdock usb memorykey?
I too think ths Atrix and Lapdock combination works great for most people that use their laptops for Web stuff primarily. But even office stuff works great, specially after hacking the webtop so one can run Linux apps like OppenOffice and GIMP for example.
I spent $300 dollars on it and don't regret it. I know that's as much as an entry level laptop or average NetBook, but I really think its thinness and huge battery life more than justifies carrying it instead of my heavy and bulky 15" laptop.

I too bought it for 300 dollars, but I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the into experience it awesome, our at least the thought of it. I can run remote desktop for pretty much any pro gram I need. On the other hand, the performance is not add great as you would think. If more ram were allocated to the webtop mode, I think it would be much snappier, along with increased clock speed. I'm going to try using the 1.3ghz kernel later this weekend and see how much faster the dock is.
All that said, I still use it as my daily laptop for classes, and it works fine.

I got mine refurb for $180. I think it was a good deal.
Pros:
1. Wifi printing is great if you have a networked printer.
2. Firefox is pretty good with good addon support.
3. File browser is easier to use than the one on the phone.
4. Hackability.
5. Keyboard is pretty good.
6. Battery life is AWESOME.
7. Built in Citrix Receiver. This is super awesome if you use this for any kind of work. It's easier to use my lapdock than my home PC w/VPN.
8. USB mass storage support.
9. Very light and sleek.
10. Geek factor- I get all kinds of questions from people, "What is that? I didn't know Motorola made laptops. Oh, cool!" etc.
Wishes:
1. Keyboard isn't backlit.
2. I wish it had a camera passthrough to a bezel-mounted webcam.
Cons:
1. Touchpad and touchpad buttons BLOW. Get a mouse (bluetooth or USB).
2. Slow sometimes. Use an OC kernel and that helps.
3. Can't install stuff without hacking.
4. Firefox is the only real "app" on the webtop (see #3).

Hate the Astrix because of the email issue we have with it. Find the screen not as responsive as other phones and moto blur is the worst Android over lay of them all
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
It really depends on what you want to do. I have the ubuntu hack installed, use Citrix to remote access office pc, and got Gnumeric running great to substitute Excel. I'd say it's functional enough to really do some light work on it. For anything serious, I'd be silly to use webtop instead of my core i5 laptop, but I'd bring Atrix+Lapdock to Starbucks for its coolness and geekness
Quoting Scottyedmonds:
Hate the Astrix [sic] because of the email issue we have with it. Find the screen not as responsive as other phones and moto blur is the worst Android over lay of them all
What email issue would that be. I have a rather complicated email configuration that works well for me.
The Bell mobility Atrix had an issue where no email besides gmail was able to send mail. The Motorola blur was at times un responsive and it was easy to accidentally add your email twice and then not be able to send from either.
As for the speed post, the phone is just as fast as any other.
As for the part where I have no idea what I'm talking about? I sell hundreds of these devices every year, when a phone is crap, my customers come back with their problems! When you get to use whatever phone you want and have responsibility of advising people on which phone to sign a 3 year contract with, I might take your douche comment serious, but with that statement you obviously have no idea what you're talking about; don't bother reading my posts then buddy!

I agree. Ability to have 2 free hands is a god send.
Movies look awesome man. I've been playing games as well and I love it. On the cons side, I don't like that the browser takes you to the mobile version of the websites.

I would have to say portability is the best quality. The biggest con for me is I can do everything on my EVO that the Tab can do. Im going to fully use my 29days to figure out if I want it or not.
7" is a great form factor for a tablet (sorry Steve). Soon there will be more competition in this field, but the build quality, large battery and full-featureness of the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be hard to match. I can see a few ways to improve the Tab: display with better viewing angles, refersh rate and lower power consumption, dual core Tegra 2 processor (although the software would need to take advantage of it), better camera, built-in software (driver and app) for FM radio chipset, worldwide integrated DMB TV tuner (currently only in some parts of the world), HDMI stand included with tablet (currently an expensive accessory), standard mini USB plug, . . . But otherwise the Tab is a pretty great device as it is now

The phone
Everything really. It really is 'one device does all'
When I'm on support duty, I need to lug around a netboot 'just in case' as well as my phone of course. Now can do it all from one device.
7" IS perfect. For me. (LCD Density app on the market helps get that little extra wiggle room, well recommended).
GF has an iPad that she enjoys, but she's getting frustrated by it's lack of flash more and more. Whilst she just uses it for email/browsing Perez whilst watching telly, it's been great. When she needs to do a bit of research, it's limitations are becoming clear. I've not had that issue. I've been able todo everything I need from it. (vnc'ing back to my linux box to handle work stuff, I have no problems with).
Also been able to setup my Everquest account to be able to be logged in and checked. Using vnc->Flash. It's slow, but it works. When I've tried todo that on the iPad, I've run into that whole 'no, you're not allowed todo that'. With the Tab (well, Android in general really), it's kinda the Unix philosophy, lots of little tools/apps that you can string together to let you work the way YOU want to.
Cons
hmm... Still annoyed that voice isn't as standard on the US models. That's just... well, stupid. Having to flash the euro rom works around it, but it's annoying to lose 3G for that. Unless it gets resolved properly soon (stock rom, and some app/mobile.bin that lets me use the mostly standard rom and get 3G AND get updates easily), I might look into the Skype/Google Voice solution that others have mentioned.
Wouldn't mind an earpiece so those rare moments I don't have the bluetooth headset, I can hold it up, and not mind looking silly. Maybe. Not sure. I'd like to have at least had the option.
The thing I really I love about my Tab is that it has turned my HTC Desire into just a phone, and my PC into something I just use during the day for work.
The Tab is now my primary method for internet and multimedia consumption when I'm not at my desk working.
Regards,
Dave
I am going to like my Tab better than the iPad I own.

This is one sweet piece of hardware. Actually, strike that. That doesn't do it justice.
This is... ahem... the coolest piece of gadgetry I have ever owned to-date. (Again, obviously trying to ignore the no-voice-calling horse**** -- and no, I can't leave that caveat off.)

Heh agreed
Apple appeals to less intelligent people that thinks its fashion.
Imo the 10" tabs like ipad are to big and heavy to function well in the hands. It tire out my hands and you have to hold it in one hand to reach everything on the screen.
Its to big to have it with you all time and dont fit in the pocket. I can just take with me the laptop instead in the nice little bag.
I have the tab with me all the time. I dont have a phone with me anymore. It has perfect size and isnt to heavy. The screen resulotion does surfing better then on a phone and the 7" makes it easyer to see whats on it.
The sgt works well for chatting, atleast i can type fast as hell on it now. Almost the same as a regular keyboard.
Pretty entertaining games. Getting a little sick of Angry Birds now but there lots of fun game with pretty sweet 3D graphics.
Surfing works good altho the browser that came with the tab is a little stuttery. I use Opera most of the time now wich is super smooth for me and when i need flash to work or something isnt working correct in Opera i use Dolphin HD.
The screen is pretty good and watchin movies, reading books and magazines works great.
It feels realy good and sturdy even with the plastic back.
The battery seems to have no problem keeping up a whole day. I have bluetooth on the whole time, msn up and chatting alot, playing and surfing alot. Sitting next to my machine on my work and passing time with my little cute tab. And mine is going to get better because its still new. On my phone the battery time got a whole lot better after a while.
Hmm... what more, what more... Its just a sweet and imo perfect device.
The best is the screen of course. I love, love the big screen. At my office there are some hardcore iPad lovers and some Galaxy fans. And I have the biggest Galaxy screen!
I really like the brightness of the colors as well, everything looks so fresh and new. I get a lot of compliments from people around me, everybody wants to hold it. For me the 7inch was the deciding factor, 10inch is way too big for me, with my woman hands (at 1.60 m I don't have large hands). Working with the keyboard at landscape I can type really fast with just two fingers.
Considering I used to own WM devices before, I have to say I really, really like the Android platform. So I am not sure, that is the main reason but everything works really fast and downloads are easy.
I keep telling everybody that the Tab is a woman device, I can hold it in one hand, wonderful.
I think I haven't been this excited about a device for a long, long time.
It's 7" and fits right in one hand, the screen looks great, 2 cameras, I can type pretty fast with 2 fingers now, or swype. I do a lot of my writing on it while watching movie. And I can use it as a phone if I so desire.
Plus it's the best tablet that I can stick into my pocket and be on the go. Now I got to figure out whether I go for the T-Mobile or Verizon version first.
@dukins
Same here, I don't have the Tab, & just sold my Evo, but it's like...... 7" isn't that much for something that is just a bigger Evo LOL, would really prefer 10"
But since I'm going to WP7, I may get one eventually, if not an Archos & flash it to get the official market. Who knows, maybe I'll end up with an iPad, I really don't know. 7" just doesn't do it for me since every smartphone with a touch screen I've owned has been 3.7" to 4.3"
& it's like, now they are already talking about their new Galaxy Tab. I think I'll wait for the thinner, faster version then.
Camera zoom would be nice too. I mean I can live without 720p recording.. I guess that's what smartphones are for instead of smarttabs?
I bought an Ipad 2 on Friday and a Xoom on Saturday...The Ipad2 grew on me because its slick and pretty efficient. The Xoom wasnt even on my radar until I went back to Best Buy to ask a question about the Ipad 2. Long story short, I have 2 weeks to decide. Initially, I wasnt crazy about the Xoom, but its started to grow on me, seems to have more depth. I am a Droid/Inc guy, I root , the whole nine, so I like Android's platform, but I am scared about whether or not the apps and support will matchup with the potential of the Xooms hardware. The Ipad2 is like a lexus, rock solid, uber reliable, intuitive and slick - but also somewhat numb to the feel (experience). The Xoom seems more like a Bimmer...more fun to drive, but also more tempermental.
Xoom fans, please shed light on what you think are the biggest pro's to the Xoom from a hands-on perspective. Thanks!
honestly? Neither.
I really prefer honeycomb over ios. And honeycomb will be available on many different hardware.
Personally I'm waiting on the samsung galaxy 10.1. Its only 10 grams heavier than ipad2 and has better display and 8mp back camera.
For me the iPad isn't an option. Being tethered to their store is just not something I will do.
The apps will catch up. I can't the the iPad as being able to do anything the Xoom can't, but I can see the Xoom being able to do a many things the iPad cannot.

I own a Xoom, and I see this getting thrown around a lot -- Samsung's update problem.
They're miserable with their touchwiz devices (I own a Vibrant), but given that Google is using the Galaxy line of phones (Nexus S) to showcase Gingerbread, I would hazard it's safe to say if it's running as a Google experience device, the updates can and will come in a timely manner.
That said, we don't have a release date for the Galaxy 10.1 tablet, so in regards to the 'waiting game', I'd say that's it.
Android always wins over iOS for me. The hardware is almost secondary . Lots of 10" tablets on the horizon so personally wouldn't plunge right into the Xoom at the moment, but it's certainly the least worst large format tablet out there right now...

its a google experience device. theres no touchwiz, with virtually the same hardware (Tegra 2).
there won't be a problem updating this device (given that it will be unlockable/rootable, which most likely will be, but will confirm before purchasing).
as for the ports, i have no need for HDMI. theres rarely a time i need to connect a tablet to a monitor/TV. Again, this is my personal preference. No HDMI is not a dealbreaker for me. I never use the HDMI port on my droidx, i doubt ill need an HDMI port on my tablet.
there is no usb port, but USB is supported via charging port. in essence, a PC can recognize the tablet by using the charging port. i'm thinking this will most likely be a proprietary cable.
Of the two, I'd take the Xoom. I've owned an iPad when they first came out and sold it after three months. My biggest complaint with Apple is the file management system and lack of access to it. With Apple, if it doesn't sync through iTunes it's a pain in the butt. I love the fact that with my Xoom and my Incredible, I can browse it like a hard drive when hooked up to my PC, I can move folders/files around and have no issues. I love the fact I can change themes, my ROM, Kernel, etc. It provides the "end user" experience that I think any personal electronic device should. Moto Xoom all the way.
Xoom has a better web experience with the chrome stype browser and flash support. It also has much better versions of google apps such as maps, gmail, etc. The mutitasking is better and widgets are useful too. The Ipad2 is faster, more vibrant screen, better gaming device, sleeker, more app selection, etc. It depends on what's important to you. I'm on the fence myself and that's with the 25% discount. I don't pledge allegance to any device. The ipad2 is a very polished, well thought out machine. The price can't be beat from a hardware perspective. 30% thinner with better battery life and better performance than Xoom while costing less. Hardware wise there is no comparison. It flat out kicks butt on the Xoom. Software wise is another story. I much prefer Honeycomb. The only downside is that it will never be as smooth, fast, and efficient as IOS. We run bytecode due to Dalvik VM while they run native machine code. That gives them 20 to 30% more performance right off the bat even with everything else being equal. That's the price you pay for an open system that supports various hardware from different vendors versus writing an OS for specific hardware.
Anyway, sorry for posting the obvious. Just rambling.

if you're making analogies, i prefer this one. Apple iOS is like Windows95, same old OS running for the past 10 years, while honeycomb is like Windows7.

Its funny you ask this on a Xoom/Android dedicated place, go to an iPad hang out forum and you'll get the exact opposite response and answers.
One last follow-up...
What cool things would I get out of rooting the Xoom?
I was fortunate enough to get 25% coupon price and I can't believe it will get old any time soon. On the other hand I also am fortunate to be able to get the black 16gb Ipad 2. (Ordered). The Xoom is my first tablet. Prior to getting it, I was tethered to my laptop. Mylaptop is great, and I made the most of it's potential by networking with my home office desktop. But my Xoom has pretty much replaced it due to the variety of apps that make networking with multiple computers so easy. The Xoom by itself is great, but with the ability to print to a variety of printers from anywhere, as well as being able to tap into the data of several computers at once, my Xoom actually exceeds the capabilities of my laptop.
I'm just wondering what others' experience is with this, and if we're "there" yet, where tablets can actually replace laptops.
My 17.3 inch laptop has been gathering dust since xoom launch day.
My laptop is still on store shelves.

Xoom with vnc and teamviewer is better than any laptop I had before
it replaced it the moment i bought it on launch day
not yet, but I use my laptop much less now. It is regulated to mostly for work and development use. For casual internet use, watching videos, chatting and just chillin, I always use the xoom for that.
I had an acer aspire one netbook i sold to pay for my xoom and i havent looked back. Laptops are old news. Cant tear me away from my desktop though.
50/50. for now, sometimes the laptop is still the best.
50 - 50 same here. My laptop still keeping the music and design Softs, but mos of time i use the Xoom to see my clients. (work in Photo & Video Production)
dell laptop sold to fund my xoom experience, best gadget ive bought to date
I gave my laptop to my daughter. Since i found a universal cut and paste app it really works for me. But my desktop is still vital and actually the Xoom and desktop are like a team, so yes, I don't miss that laptop.
My Xoom successfully replaced an MSI Wind netbook. On battery life and portability alone Xoom wins hands down, and that Tegra 2 smokes Atom 1.6 in every way that I've noticed. Casual browsing and even just moving through the OS feels much snappier on Xoom than any config I ever tried on the Wind (XP/7/OSX). Desktop + tablet prevails
Xoom killed my MSi u210. Well some sort of CPU hog that I haven't fixed did that. But then the Xoom came and I haven't tried to fix the netty since. Win 7 on my netbook worked until my CPU started running near 99 percent half the time, making small tasks like checking email take 10 minutes.

I don't know if your u210 had the same jet engine fan issue my u100 had, but I don't miss that annoyance one bit. That's something I take for granted with Xoom.. the fact that it's fanless and it's sleep mode is truly instant-on. Huge plus.
I love my Xoom and use it to read articles and bbbbbbbbrooooooooooooooowse the web, but it can't replce my laptop for writing or doooing wooooooooooooooork. As you can see, although IIII use a BT keyboard and mouse, typing is still buggy. It'ssss sometimes cleaner with the virtual keyboard but much ssssolower. So, no the Xoom is great, but it has not replaced myyy laptopppppppp.
For the most part. Digital SLR photography is a hobby of mine and the Xoom doesn't handle that.
Other than that, yeah, it's completely replaced my laptop.
If I can get it to recognize my external hard drive, then maybe.
so I'm thinking about getting a laptop dock or Android tablet, like a xoom, a500, or galaxy 10.1. Which should I get?

Tablet! Not even a question.

Lapdock! Not even a question. But i have one: are you a linux guy? If so, the lapdock is for you. Fan of the ipad? Maybe lapdock then but with the work being done right now to improve webtop, i love it. With gnome or gentoo the skys the limit.
This is made with the assumption that you buy the 200 dollars for refurbished
see thing is I wanna try to minimize how much I spend, but I don't want a piece of junk. The only reason I'm thinking of the laptop dock is that its cheaper than tablets. I think I'm just gonna get a wifi tablet. But is the laptop dock anywhere as fast as a Xoom, a Galaxy 10.1? What is the weight of the laptop dock vs. other android tablets? Thats a big factor, as is general portability.
depends...
If you're looking for cheap, you can definitely get the laptop dock for far cheaper, unless you're looking for a viewpad (i think it's the name) which is also a tegra 2 tablet, but a terrible screen.
Weight is pretty similar I think standalone, but definitely larger with the phone docked.
Speed compared to the xoom or other similar tablets? Unless someone comes along and figures out some way to optimize the laptop dock a bunch, no. But! I'm staying optimistic on this one, since it may be slowed down by the AWN window manager. I personally think (with the power of hindsight) that getting a xoom/galaxy tab may have been a better choice in the long run, but the laptop dock is quite nice for day to day activities, and the modifications the devs have done on the webtop are simply outstanding, and allow for many more opportunities than that of the honeycomb tablets of today.

Ok I got home to my lapdock to write this. I urge you to buy the lapdock for several reasons.
I have never needed to plug the phone in to a charger since I got the dock a month ago. I have never had the battery die since then either. The battery life is superb with the dock, both charging and using the dock full brightness it will last 8 hours. To sum things up, with an easy tethering hack, an extremely easy mechanism to block all ads, and motobloat removed, all of which is easily accomplished using Gingerblur, I am working on a hack to make it into a portable HDMI display, I can use an app like meebo in the background on the phone while working and the integration is flawless and golden, such as having a keyboard and window manager. Using ad blocking, which kills all unnecessary flash ads and crap, flash really flies along as well as browsing: I have made webtop faster, with many more tabs open and quicker than ever before. It's a great platform for viewing HD flash videos, the patches for flash have made it a really capable performer, and it's 1366x768 resolution screen is better than any of the tablets, especially what you can get with the transformer or a ****ty wifi tablet. With the easy tethering hack you can use your unlimited plan like crazy with this thing safely. Its super lightweight, more durable than a tablet, can run linux full easily with keyboard and mouse, is as fast as tab....etc etc!!!!
By the way the 200 dollar refurb is the bomb, its like new

sounds pretty nice, looking forward to see how this pans out.
i'm about to purchase a new tablet and i have issues deciding which tablet i want. i would like the ipad because it can run at least 95% of the apps in the app store. i like the iconia because it has built in hdmi port, usb port, external microsd, and a lot more features with in the os. but i'm afraid that most of the apps i want or need will either be not available or won't be compatible with honeycomb. Either or i like the way the acer looks and the price is cheaper than the ipad. i have an android phone Samsung Vibrant 4G and i'v had the iphone before...which is the reason why i'm debating on which tablet i want. i've seen youtube videos regarding the ipad vs the iconia but its not enough for me to make my decision. I much rather ask the experts and users of xda to get the final desicion. so what should it be?
Easy answer.
Which do you want, Android or iOS?
Only you can answer that.

+1 to this. Which one do you want, and why? Give us some more info about what you actually want to do with your tablet - this will help us know what to recommend.
Need Adobe Flash support? Would be my first question. Need expandable storage?
iPad 2. Currently the only tablet worth 500 bucks. This is coming from a guy who kinda hates Apple.

So far, all android 2.x apps i've tried are working on android 3.x
The two problems are
* they are not necessarily compatible with the resolution of the tablets
* the app UI might have been designed for smartphone use (small screen, mobility)
Regarding the resolution issue, android 3.2 is fixing this by adding the new "compatibility zoom" feature (not tried yet, still waiting acer to release android 3.2 on the iconia )

I was in the fix like you when i was buying tablet, i opted for iconia but i am regretting now. Iconia is not at the fault but apps, cause not many apps are available for bigger screen.
That's why go for IPAD 2, it has so many more applications.

Why? I assume you do not require Adobe flash support. More details, plz
I've got both, and switch between them regularly. There are some things the iPad2 can do that the Acer cannot (some Citrix connectivity with my company), there are some things the iPad2 simply does better (WiFi reception, battery life). Then, there are places where it's a toss up. Then there are things like widgets and ability to control my user experience through settings, root applications, etc. that Acer delivers on. The SD card and USB ports are, of course, in Acer's favor.
On the whole, I find myself reaching for the Acer more often through the day, unless I know that the iPad is necessary, or if the Acer's battery is low. This, however, might be because I've owned an iPad (1 or 2) since early in the iPad's life (not the launch of 1, but close) and I've only had the Acer for a month, so there's a newness/novelty to it. The experimentation with ROMs, kernels, etc. also keeps the Acer more interesting from a tweaker's perspective, of course.
The Acer provides homescreens that are much more useful through their customization and dynamic screen content. The iPad gives an overall smoother interaction. Typing on onscreen keyboards goes to the iPad, I think, despite using SwiftKey, which offers word prediction, etc.
Screens are pretty similar in my uses, although the Acer is glossier(glare) and shows fingerprints more readily.
If I had to choose only one at this time, and money was not an issue, I'd probably stick with the iPad2.
Note, I use an Android phone, but I don't know that the integration is really better in one over another, using gmail and corporate accounts and calendars. In my situation, my corporate account did require the use of a third party exchange application due to some weird security issues. This may change if you were using an iPhone with iOS 5 coming with the iCloud system, who knows. But, if you had an iPhone, I would guess you'd already be heading to the Apple store.
i must say the acer changed my opinion of android tablets. Its fantastic! I bought mine second hand on craigs list. Well worth it.
After rooting the usb ports support all my usb drives, keyboards and anything else that ive tried. Thr battery life leaves something to be desired, but its still good enough.
Its my remote for xbmc, managing utorrent on my server and just putzing around on the web.
Im sold on the acer. Get the 16GB with the 100 dollar gift card and you will love it.
I also have groove ip installed and can make and receive phonecalls without having to find woorkarounds to make it work.
I have used ipads, just not enough to judge them. I did have a touch 4g but was never pleased with what it took to get it set up to do what this does.
I also love rooting and flashing different rom.
I have use of both via work, and have also used both for work and for home. They both have their strong points and weaknesses. I also use Citrix for access to work applications - multiple times per day - and I actually prefer the Iconia with 3.1 over the iPad 2 for this purpose.
IPad certainly has more apps, and some are phenomenally good value (including Apple's own ported apps like Garage Band). Some are mediocre, and quite a few are poor. In real life, however, unless you collect apps just for the number you own, most things can be done with either tablet.
The clincher for me is Steve Jobs personal aversion to Flash and Java. One of the main cloud-based professional apps I use is written in Flash. With the iPad2, my only work around that works (but very slowly) is to VPN into either the office Mac or one of the PC's. The Iconia runs it natively, quickly and effortlessly.
For entertainment, the Iconia won't easily run Netflix yet (it is possible via a hack only), but it effortlessly streams media from my home media server (Serviio on Ubuntu server, on an $70 Intel Atom board), including video, pictures and music. The iPad won't work with it (though it will with some other servers).
The Iconia scores hands down on connectivity. USB input/output. HDMI out without dongles. SD card expansion without dongles and with far les limitations on use. Bluetooth that will connect with stereo headphones, keyboards, mice and other devices while the iPad2 Bluetooth is deliberately crippled to not allow serial devices without jailbreaking and add-on apps from Cydia. That includes no normal Bluetooth GPS connectivity, and the iPad 2 doesn't have one built in (Iconia does).
Although I use an iMac much more than I use Windows, I find the reliance on iTunes for everything concerning interconnection really annoying (though there are ways to work around it, if you look hard). You even needed a PC with iTunes to wake up the darned iPad 2 when it arrived...
So it depends what you really want, and what you need. Personally, I'm finding that I carry the Iconia a lot more than the iPad2.

I've got both.
It depends on what you need.
If you want to put kb/mouse onto it, then Iconia.
Ports isn't THAT big an issue cos u can get attachments that give u hdmi out etc on iPad 2.
If you want to do weird and crazy things, then Android.
If you are a 'normal' user (ie surf, read, tunes etc), then iPad by a million miles.
Much much much nicer experience on iPad2 for everyday use.
Working with my Acer Iconia since one week. Never want to miss a fully functional USB Port. You can do so much more than with ordinary Tablet PCs or the Ipad .
Best regards, maris

I disagree on the 'normal' usage being better on the ipad. Surfing without flash and the need to sync your media through itunes makes both a poor experience. At least poorer than with the iconia.

For those considering battery life : remember the iconia is almost 100€ cheaper and got a LOT more connectivity than the ipad 2. And I heard about Acer lowering the price soon.
The lack of flash player and the inability to sync media without itunes makes the ipad2 worst than the iconia for me.

IMO
If you want boring interface get an ipad
If you already spent a ton of money on apps through iTunes get a ipad
If you plan on using the web browser get an android (I remember the joy I experienced with my ipad when trying to browse to local business web pages and not being able to see anything)
If your not using iTunes to buy overpriced music get an android
If your business requires Skype calling maybe you should get an ipad. (Guess Skype figures android tablets don't want the support)
If you want to buy extra dongle to use USB devices you already own get an ipad (sorry the USB port is a big deal to me)
If your a normal user get an android more out of the box support by a million miles
If you want to video chat with family members that only have a computer and webcam get android atleast with gmail in the browser they won't have to buy only one type of computer(which is ten times easier to get going then having mom trying to install software when your not around to do it for her)
If you want hook your tablet up to the tv by only using a five dollar cable get android
If you might prefer a seven inch tablet get an android
If you want to mange files on your tablet with a computer then get an ipad (perhaps someone can inform me been awhile since I used an apple product are users allowed to delete music of phone\tablet without the use of iTunes)
If you love excel spreadsheet and want that kind of experience get something you use can use iTunes for
If your already on XDA and know your way around adb and stuff get an android
If you want reply on message boards and claim that android are only good for doing crazy weird things then get an ipad
All and all the two major platforms are becoming more the same anywho. Android just meet all my minimum requirements where the ipad did not
In the end you need to decide for your self if your work has requirements well I say make them buy you whatever they require. I myself have been burnt by apple to many times and all apple users I personally know act like asshats about their device(most of the time getting excited about features already available on other platforms)

Haha, you can imagine the froth forming at this fanboy's mouth!
I'd reply in an equally rabid fashion if my Tab's virtual keyboard wasn't going a major unresponsive slowdown bender.
Oh, wait, I couldn't anyway cos the wireless has is doing the Obtaining IP address trick and I need to reset it twice again.
After I've recharged it cos the battery has run out inexplicably just over night.
I'm only kidding with you... it's a great tablet. Hey, I own one so I back it up with hard cash!
If you want quality hardware get an Ipad, otherwise get the A500.
My A500 is in repair shop now after 3 months!
the only thing bothers me is its quality and weight. I have decided number of times to sell the A500 and buy and Ipad2 but browsing experience just keep we from doing that

I'm glad you mentioned the weight, I wanted the ipad 2 initialy, especially after trying one for a few days - I was comfortable with ios, since I have an iphone. Also you can hack them like any other device, plus plenty of apps.
However, I bought an Iconia, because of connectivity, expansion, Flash, and price, and I was keen to try Android, now that it has matured somewhat.
I love the Iconia for all the reasons I just mentioned, but I am shocked by its weight, I know there is only 165g difference, but it just feels really heavy, something I never even thought about with the ipad, so I did'nt take it into consideration when choosing a pad.
Bottom line is, if you are going to use it in your hands all the time, get an ipad, if its going to be used on its stand, and/or the weight does'nt bother you, definately get an Iconia
