your professional opinion G2x or Sensation? - Vibrant General

Hi everyone.
Im upgrading my tmobile contract next week. And since I cannot wait for personal reasons.. and there arent any better phones out for tmobile, my choices came down to Sensation or G2X... Now i read some reviews on both.
Htc sensation now has gorilla glass which is what i loved about my vibrant. Supposedly they fixed the power on and off issue with the firmware update on g2x.
I read that sensation even tho has a bigger screen has a better pixel density... but has poor standards "4g"... this is what pc mag wrote about sensation: "T-Mobile advertises this as a "4G" phone, but it isn't, even by T-Mobile's standards. This is an HSPA 14.4 phone. That's fast, to be sure, but not the HSPA+ 42 that's T-Mobile's fastest network, or even the HSPA+ 21 used by the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G and Galaxy S 4G."
and it says exactly the same for g2x 's "4g modem" ... the funny thing that here in New York City where I live I get 5m data speed on a regular with my vibrant! and these "4g" phones pretty much equal my vibrant data speeds..
So overall please help me make a decision.. But please be as knowledgeable as you can. Since whenever i chose a phone I tend to use it for at least a year or more.
Thank You all!!!!
Also correction: I just ran a speedtest app from the first very run i scored 6110kbps download speed on my 3g vibrant .... and 1698kbps upload speed.

Sensation is definitely more appealing and are from HTC. But the g2x is very slimmed down and does not have some crazy memory sucking ui on top. Plus it now runs gb stock. G2x is my vote

Sensation much more stable speed around same put z rom on sensation an you good
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

I have a Sensation, but I had a G2x for about a week before I sold it to get another Vibrant. The G2x was very problematic, it kept randomly rebooting and the screen bleed drove me insane. Sensation is way more stable and IMO looks better, sure G2x comes with AOSP GB but we'll have AOSP ROMs on S4G soon. If you decide Sensation isn't for you, then maybe look at the upcoming Samsung Hurcules.

Sensation! That's my opinion. Good luck with your choice.

I'd pick the sensation, the devs that have that phone are really great.

Neither I'd wait for another, but Sensation > g2x
People who have both would also agree there.

Would I be better off getting a vibrant 4g for now... since it has a good quality front facing cam and fast "4g" ?

I have a g2x. I love it. Slim, blazing fast, stripped down to stock gb. Love it

I'd wait... But if not and you don't mind a little hassle i'd get the sensation and trade it for a g2x plus cash might be able to still pocket a little over $50... If you want the custom ui they have ported touchwiz 4 to the g2x i've had them both... Sensation has a better feel and the ui looks beautiful... But i think the g2x is just as good
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Guys 2 final questions...
Im probably leaning more towards sensation rather than g2x due to screen bleeds and weird 800x400 resolution on g2x...
heres my question.. how does sensations GPU compare to vibrants? is sensations graphic chip better than our vibrant or on par or vibrant is better?
and Q #2 : Pretty much sensation "4g" is not even slightly faster than vibrants 3g+? or w.e. its called... I remember when tmobile updated its network they said a few new phones at that time like our vibrant would benefit from it... and that probably explains why i get 5mpbs - 6 on my 3g vibrant... So are the data speeds the same or sensation is still slightly faster?
and if you want to add any additional information to why or why I shouldnt get that phone please do so, I want to be as knowledgeable as possible about a phone before I buy it
Thanx again

Always go HTC over "most" brands.

Ur choice in the end but I have a correction to make, g2x has gorilla glass. Both great phones. G2x has faster 4g speeds. Screen goes to sensation bur not really by much. Sensation has more devs working on it now so go with the sensation. If g2x gets more devs def get it. Not a lot of devs out there for this phone but I aprecciate all devs

Huh? Vibrant has a better gpu than G2X? Are u aware that G2X has an nvidia tetra chip.. and is considered the best Gpu that's out for a phone now?..... u just confused me because in all reviews they say sensation doesn't have a good gaming chip like tegra... but I just wanted to know if sensations gpu is better than vibrants

I think I would rather have a phone that's been out a little longer due to rom support. Plus I am still waiting for the official froyo upgrade for my nexus one thats been sitting in my closet since mid last year.
Sent from a Galaxy S far....far....away.
toss up between ns and vibrant. i don't care about sd (i have 5+Gb free on my vibrant with the stock sd card so space doesn't matter to me), but 720p video recording is nice, and i don't really care about strict vanilla android, but i would prefer to have gb and know i will be getting 2.4 or 3.0, whichever is honeycomb for phones.
otherwise, i don't think another phone thats out compares as a complete package. sure they may linpack higher, or the iphone 4 has a better screen (debatable?), but the vibrant can oc well, has the samoled, has good sound, good dev support, etc. though hspa+ would be a benefit, it's not something i care about right now cause tmob hasn't even launched hspa+ in my area, yet.
upcoming phones i'd be interested in are the lg x2, atrix, and vibrant+. i won't get any of them, i'll wait for the next round, but those are probably the front runners coming soon. and the atrix won't be tmob, which is a downside cause tmob is cheap and even regular hspa in my area is widespread and very fast.

G2X or Sensation?

Which one would you choose? The 3.0 sense on the sensation looks so nice, if you have not seen videos of it you should definitely see it. The g2x is stock vanilla froyo, but it will gb soon after launch, also it has the tegra 2 processor and the sensation has tge quallcomm processor. Its very hard for me to choose.

G2X bootloader is wide open (Cyanogen's next device!), Sensation is locked. So choice is pretty obvious.
I haven't decided yet. I need to see some reviews and "usability benchmarks" (ie: how well the devices respond in general usage). The Vibrant puts down good benchmarks, but fails in everyday usability (it's laggy to respond, even with bionix, voodoo kernels, overclock). I think Samsung's source is to blame; they just can't write good code.

The g2x is pretty much a stock and it has a dual core processor. Also the sensation is a htc phone so that phone will get supported by cyanogen and other devs as well.

Don't get the G2x stock android messed up with Google's stock Android. The only true stock android imo is one in which Google controls updates, otherwise you are at the mercy of your carrier and manufacturer. The G2 has "stock android" and has yet to receive gingerbread.
G2x. For me due to it being stock. Well its either g2x or gs2, more than likely they both wont have locked bootloaders

Yeah but that's why we flash in the first place, to get our phones working the way they should have shipped. Though I understand, I'm slowing down a bit on the constant flashing. I just wouldn't expect a phone that works just the way you want out of the box. Though to answer your question, the G2x seems to have the lasting power, with vanilla Android, Tegra 2, a swift 2.3 update planned, and an unlocked bootloader if/when support is dropped and you decide to flash it to extend its life. However, I've heard some QC issues, bugs with it, not that HTC doesn't have its own problems with that.
Does the g2x have its own forum now? I saw the optimus 2x forums, but I dont know if its for the g2x. I wonder if its already out in europe because there are roms for the phone.

Not worth double...MT4G is abt 450 and G2X 500 i think at tmo and 180 for MT4G contract and G2X 200 on . I mean the G2X has the Tegra dualcore so it's faster but 2 cores dont really work good on 2.2 software, it needs ginger to fully function(read somewhere). The 2nd Gen Dragon isn't as powerful as a dualcore 1GHz...Maybe if we get that 2.0GHz kernel we were discussing before then maybe it may stand a slight chance. This phone has a serious I/O issue that's noticeable on quadrant, its beat by the thunderbolt, desire hd, desire s, etc...It looses to the other phones with same internals which is odd. Try quadrant and phone struggles on I/O part, who knows why.
Ah, well, G2x's without contracts are still up around $500 right? I just bought a MT4G for $275 here on XDA and am sending my G2x back to T-Mo.

Mytouch 4g for a nexus S

Actually the Hummingbird processor is vastly superior to the Snapdragon found in the MyTouch 4G. It has better I/O processing speeds and a much stronger graphics rendering ability. Overall the Nexus has better specs, and the battery life will be superior due to the absence of T-Mobile's gimped HTC Sense.

You can stop trying to defend your phone dude. I saw your note on CM7 but the fact is not everyone would want to use CM7. As far as benchmarks, those can be inflated easily. The proof is right there when you place the two side by side in a 3D game to see the MT4G choking at about 20-25 FPS while the Nexus S will glide along at 40+ FPS.
Point we're trying to get across to you is that no one is going to do an even trade for it.

Ive ran both phones side by side and the mytouch is superior in every way except screen. It eats the Nexus for breakfast in linpack, not to mention it will run aosp and sense. If it were me, and I had a GSM nexus, Id trade ya in a heartbeat man. My little sisters Mytouch 4g is my favorite phone ive never owned lol.
For those of you reading this and that may be listening to the misinformed, the mytouch has a dual processor which basically means a dedicated gpu. The screen shots I'm posting below are...
First set - the worst and best performances of the gpu
Second set - stock setting and overclocking of the cpu
Third set- what 4g gets you
All of these are done without cheating. If someone is serious about a trade I'd be more than happy to upload a you tube video for proof

I'm with the OP.
The myTouch 4G is a vastly superior device. This is coming from a Nexus S user (previous myTouch 4G user).
I got a superior deal for it (my mint sidekick 4g straight trade for the Nexus S
But I have to say first off that the mytouch gets higher Quadrant scores stock and then obviously devours the nexus s in everything except graphics performance.
In all honesty a straight trade would be a good deal. You'd be gaining a nice device and dev community with a larger variety of ROMs. Also the battery life of the myTouch so far seems to be better than this phone stock.
If I was the OP, post the phone on Craigslist and see what you get. Or if your lucky like me go from mytouch to sidekick 4g then nexus s all straight trades haha.. (don't take your chances. Analyze how the sidekick is doing in your area. It seems to have leverage in mine (Minneapolis) even though its a sucky device. There was a guy doing a straight trade g2x for sidekick. It was crazy.)
Just my 2 cents.

myTouch 4G has more development plus you have the CHOICE of running Sense which is a really good UI on a well built ROM. That being said, you should read a bit about the good screen / bad screen issue on the myTouch as well as the good EMMC chip / bad chip as well to make sure you get a good model.
What i see Vibrant over it is the super AMOLED, better GPU, and ICS Passion ROM, and myTouch has 4G, camera flash, FFC, and better build quality.
Both phones are good, just determining what trade offs are best for you. good luck

IMHO, if you are going to trade, make sure you are getting something that really will be different. Does it have features you want, what are the differences? Is it an upgrade, or is it just a different phone?
For me I have waited a LONG time since the vibrant came out before I really found a phone worth upgrading to. I want the HTC amaze 4g. Many more features, dual core, ffc, better camera, dedicated camera/video buttons, NFC.. the list goes on. For me it is a phone that will take better advantage of ICS, and should get an official ICS update. The downside is that there isn't a whole lot of development.. yet. But it is a new phone, so that will come in time(and I even hope to make some development offerings once I get one)
So what are you looking for in a new phone, because unless the mytouch 4g has some feature you want that the vibrant doesn't have, you are trading a very solid phone for.. just another phone.
